Hahahaha. . . Is it not obvious that you seriously have comprehension problems and confusing things?
Where in the link was it mentioned that any of these schools were founded by religious bodies. .LMAO and you query why I dey yab you?
HAVARD UNIVERSITY: Harvard University is an American private Ivy League research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature. Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States
Harvard was founded in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, making it the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Initially called "New College" or "the college at New Towne", the institution was renamed Harvard College on March 13, 1639. It was named after John Harvard, a young English clergyman from Southwark, London, an alumnus of the University of Cambridge (after which Cambridge, Massachusetts is named), who bequeathed the College his library of four hundred books and £779 pounds sterling, which was half of his estate.[20] The charter creating the corporation of Harvard College came in 1650. In the early years, the College trained many Puritan ministers.[21] The college offered a classic academic course based on the English university model—many leaders in the colony had attended the University of Cambridge—but one consistent with the prevailing Puritan philosophy. The college was never affiliated with any particular denomination, but many of its earliest graduates went on to become clergymen in Congregational and Unitarian churches throughout New England
UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD: As the oldest university in the English- speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris.
Cambridge University: The university grew out of an association of Cambridge scholars that was formed in 1209, early records suggest, by scholars leaving Oxford after a dispute with townsfolk.
The official founding of Cambridge University is traced to the enhancement, by a charter in 1231 from King Henry III of England, which awarded the ius non trahi extra (a right to discipline its own members) plus some exemption from taxes, and a bull in 1233 from Pope Gregory IX that gave graduates from Cambridge the right to teach everywhere in Christendom.
It is Obvious you are confusing the fact that besides the King of Englands Monarchy, the Popacy was a type of absolute Monarchy that was even stronger than the english Monarchy of the time. His edict or recognition of a Charter to an already existing higher school of learning does not trascend to the church founding this institutions.
Even John Havard was not the founder of the school. That he was th biggest benefactor of the school did not make him the founder.
Nigga stop confusing yourself jare.
And what are you on about Godly values and all that religious balderdash about clever devils. Who are you to tell somebody with differeny views about morals and God that they are right or wrong. Who made you an arbiter of right and wrong? This is exactly the arbitrariness that I am talking about. People forcing their own set of morals, justice, and sense of decency on others without respecting theirs. You need to stop this nonsense and realize you are not the only one with your own set of rules.

Let others be is what i am saying. These are not Government "owned" Schools. I am sure you went to St Finbarrs after the schools were taken over by the government and are run as government schools with the former name still intact. the same way you feel irked because of your religious view is the same way it happens in muslim climes and in their institutions up north. seems to me that your world view is only restricted to Yorubaland. This was how the missionaries raised the quality students of yore. And before you castigate me for oxford and havard please do your research lest you sound like an ignoramus. Tolerance means respecting other peoples views as well. since you value education that much , this should challenge you to offer alternatives to this if you feel you dont like the way these private institutions are operating; let me hear of Imams or Big business Muslim moguls building institutions themselves rather than giving alms ,feeding poor people during ramadan and only sponsoring their people on holy pilgrimages. deeds that make one really look pious but is not enough to add meaningful value to the quality of lives affected.I wont be surprised that if you had your way, you could actually burn or tear down these institutions the way you are talking. Ala BOKO Haram style. Build your own and lets see how you run it. My own na my own. Our own no belong to anybody and as such it is really no body's business at the end of the day. Thats the secret behind the continued relevance and standards they continually turn out.
Like seriously how old are you? Are like 5 or something cos you sure present your case worse than a toddler. Mr Man, the establishment of Oxford, Havard or even Cambrige had little or nothing to do with any religious sect let alone catholics. Stop citing them as examples and asking me to do research on them like you know any better, it is you who should check your facts here before making very dumb and unfounded claims you can not prove. I dare you to bring evidence of any of these schools connections to a religious sect or order.
Again I warn you stop this your zig-zag argument that is contradictory and pointless. What have muslims got to do with the point I am trying to make. I went to St Finbarr's College and my kid brother was there when the management became full time missionary, it did not turn the school intolerant, till date they still take in students of all background and religious belief, they still maintain thesame tenets of respecting people's freedom to express their own belief through their own religious tenets. You sounded like a Fool trying to guage my views as based on the fact that I grew up in Lagos. Do you know how many Nigerian and African cities that I have visited since I left secondary school? Do I come across to you as some parochial local champion that views issues from the confines of regional boundaries? Matter of fact am not even in Lagos. Nigga, stop trying to psychoanalyze me and just address the issues, you barely know me.
From your myopic view, you are of the opinion that since Christian churches are busy erecting Universities they run like monastries, muslims should go ahead and build Universities run with strict sharia laws. Do you know how divisive such a situation will be. The last thing any educated person need is religiously bias orientation and psyche. People go to Universities to broaden their educational experience and gather more knowledge not to be reformed, religiously re-orienred and indoctrinated.

Do you all know that Dangote's Cement sells 30% less in Ghana than in Nigeria?
Until recently, for over 10years dangoter has been importing cement in bulk and bagging it and enjoying all the attendant waiver that came with it. He and the Lafarge group instigated ObJ to close down Ibeto and decieved Nigerians about meeting up with demands from their manufacturing plant when actually he was still importing and having a feel time yanking up the price. MONOPOLISTIC OPERATION IN THE CEMENT INDUSTRY IS BAD FOR NIGERIA Public Statement Issued by Ibeto Cement Company Limited. The Ibeto Cement Company Limited has noted a series of misleading press reports and comments being orchestrated for the purpose of negating the very compelling reasons for which the Federal Government made the decision to reopen our cement bagging plant in Port-Harcourt and recreating adverse conditions that will frustrate the restoration of work on the plant. These press reports mostly trade on sophistry and guile, in order to obfuscate the truth and confuse the very same Nigerians for whose benefit our plant is being reopened. Quite obviously this calumnious press campaign is being orchestrated by the same monopolistic cartel that first contrived the closure of the plant but their statements of deception are easily exposed. We wish to refer specifically to the following newspaper publications: a. This Day newspaper of Wednesday July 25; a front page report titled “Cement prices set to crash”. b. Punch newspaper of Monday July 30; a back page report titled “Cement Importation; Nigeria May lose $647 million.” c. Independent newspaper of August 5; on page C1 titled “High Expectations, Cautious Optimism as Ibeto Cement Returns.” d. Punch newspaper of Friday August 10; on page 17, under the Business and Economy review, titled “Why Cement Prices Remain High.” The above publications quoted copiously from statements issued by certain representatives of certain members of the Nigerian cement cartel, namely, Mr. Akin Adesokan, Managing Director, Dangote Cement; Mr. Joseph Okonmah, Corporate Affairs Manager, Dangote Group; Mr. George Lourandos, Managing Director, WAPCO of the Lafarge Group (Elephant and Atlas Cement) and Chief Emmanuel Ukpabi, Managing Director, Flour Mills of Nigeria (Burham Cement). In response to the numerous untruths and contrived disinformation that are credited to the above-named persons and the organizations that they represent, for the benefit of the Nigerian public, it is necessary to present the incontrovertible facts. These are: 1. The Ibeto Cement Company Limited has not been favoured with an exclusive right to import bulk cement into Nigeria. The truth is that about 80% of all the cement currently consumed in Nigeria is imported. It is also pertinent to note that there are only six (6) organisations in Nigeria with the capacity to import or manufacture cement. These are; the Lafarge Group, Dangote Cement, Flour Mills of Nigeria, Eastern Bulkcem (Eagle Cement), Ibeto Cement Company and the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria. Among these, Dangote has been and remains the biggest importer of bulk cement into Nigeria, thanks to the Federal Government yearly allocation that favours Dangote with a quota of 6.5 million – 9 million MT per annum, against 3.2 million MT per annum shared out among the rest of the other four companies, excluding Ibeto Cement. 2. The essential information regarding the operation of these organisations are as follows: a) The Lafarge Group, comprising Ashaka Cement in Gombe State currently producing a mere 700,000 MT per annum; Ewekoro and Sagamu (WAPCO) in Ogun State with a combined production capacity of just 1.4 million MT per annum. This means that the total output of all three cement factories owned by the Lafarge Group in Nigeria is only 2.1 million MT per annum. The Lafarge Group also has a floating plant in Port- Harcourt (Atlas Cement), for bagging imported bulk cement which has a production capacity of 2 million MT per annum. Lafarge, a French company, had entered Nigeria some ten years ago, promising to invest heavily in the Nigerian cement industry. A grateful Nigerian government threw our doors open, enabling the company to pick up some very rich assets at rock-bottom prices. These included Ewekoro, Ashaka and Sagamu cement factories. Since these concessionary acquisitions, Lafarge has largely been reaping without sowing. Practically none of the expected expansions promised by the company in these plants have been realized. Instead Lafarge manoeuvred itself into becoming the Lease Manager of the Onigbolo Cement Factory, owned by the governments of the Benin Republic (51%) and Nigeria (43%). Lafarge, which has no single share in this partnership, has become the main beneficiary of that investment. This is achieved through manipulating the loophole that allows Lafarge to import cement duty-free from Benin Republic, which is an ECOWAS member country. The Onigbolo plant has become a clever conduit for cement to be brought in from overseas and laundered through the Onigbolo plant and then pushed into Nigeria, duty free, under cover of the ECOWAS protocol. This is why Lafarge is able to import so much cement into Nigeria from this tiny Benin plant with the claim that the plant is producing at full capacity. The question should be asked, why is it that La Farge cannot perform the same miracle in its Nigerian factories which are all struggling on at very low capacity utilisation? The truth is that there is no be miracle being performed by La Farge at Onigbolo that is in any way beneficial to Nigerians and the Nigerian economy. What is going on there is that La Farge is engaged in trickery utilizing that plant to smuggle imported cement into Nigeria. Money lost to Nigeria and gained by this foreign company, Lafarge, through its many ploys is in excess of $500 million US. dollars per annum. This situation requires to be fully investigated by the appropriate agencies of our government, especially, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigerian Customs Service. This is especially important because of the fact that there is no evidence that the duty waiver so far enjoyed by Lafarge has translated into lower prices for the Nigerian consumer or substantially the improved welfare for the company’s Nigerian workers. It is noteworthy that just before he left office, President Obasanjo directed the Bureau of Public Enterprises to transfer to the Dangote group the Federal Government’s shareholding in this tiny Benin Republic Cement plant. Could it be that the La Farge and Dangote monopoly-promoting and strategically mutually beneficial relationship in Nigeria is being exported to the cement plant in the Benin Republic? Meanwhile Mr. George Lourandos, the Greek Managing Director of Lafarge’s WAPCO subsidiary, prefers to be cunningly economical with the truth. He appears to take delight in deceit and influence peddling by manipulating public opinion and government policy with false statistics. Mr. Lourandos may want to explain to Nigerians by what magic he intends to produce 5.7 million MT of cement in one year, from the figure of 2.1 million MT that his three plants (Ashaka, Ewekoro and Sagamu) are actually producing. A good example of this foreign company’s manipulative ways was, in the recent past, manifested in their success at contriving with President Obasanjo to shut down Ibeto Cement – a setup by the vicious cement cartel of which Lafarge is an important arrowhead. b) Dangote Cement, comprising Benue Cement purchased from the Bureau of Public Enterprises in 2001 and still struggling at a meagre production level of 350,000 MT per annum; Obajana new cement plant hurriedly commissioned by President Obasanjo with a claimed capacity of 5 million MT per annum which in reality is producing less than 500,000 MT per annum. Dangote Cement has been in the business of bagging bulk cement since 1995, over 12 years ago, using Nigerian Ports Authority infrastructure and buildings. It was only this year, in May 2007, that Dangote finally commissioned a cement manufacturing plant of its own initiative. Dangote, Nigeria’s largest importer of bulk cement, has four bagging plants in the country: the Lagos Cement Terminal at Apapa Port, the Aliko Inland Terminal at Lagos, one in Onne/Port Harcourt and one in NPA Area 1 Port Harcourt with a combined production of 3 million MT per annum. With its overriding influence on the Obasanjo regime, Dangote Cement always managed to seize cement import quotas of between 6.5 and 9 million MT per annum. Keeping hold of so much import quota enabled Dangote to limit what was available to other operators. Dangote regulated how much of their cement import quota to use and when to use it and so has successfully been manipulating market prices. Dangote Cement did not only tyrannize other producers but also succeeded in frightening away would-be new entrants into the cement industry with bogus claims. These claims included wild production and expansion figures that were never met but were accepted by the Obasanjo government as a basis for the issuance of import quotas. One wonders at the reasons for the company to put the cost of its 5 million MT capacity plant at Obajana at One Billion US dollars, when Ibeto cement is building its own plant of the same capacity for less than 300 million US. Dollars. We believe that the only discernible reason is that Dangote is acting to frighten away prospective investors and thereby reduce competition. More ominously, one would want to know if these claims on plant costs and investment costs would be accepted by the Securities and Exchange Commission without question in giving value to the company’s shares if and when the company decides to go public. We believe that the most viable strategy for achieving cement security for our dear country via local manufacture lies in implementing public policies that encourage more investors to enter the cement industry with plants of all sizes, some costing just about 20 million US. Dollars, as is the case in China which has over 120 cement factories. Numerous Chinese businessmen have approached Nigerian investors with offers for turnkey cement projects, at the above- mentioned price and even lower, but the monopolistic trends in the industry have proved too discouraging for these Nigerian investors. Recent efforts by the Yar’Adua government to create a level playing field in the country are most commendable and should be supported by all true patriots. c) Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (Burham), the nation’s second largest importer of bulk cement has only facilities for bagging imported bulk cement, which they have been operating for over twenty-five years without any known operational cement factory in place in Nigeria. This company owns four 55,000 MT DWT ships dedicated to bringing bulk cement into Nigeria for the past 25 years. The plant has a production capacity for bagging 2 million MT per annum. All the claims the company makes about developing a cement factory in Calabar are based on the existence of a company called UNICEM in which it is a minority shareholder in partnership with the following companies; Dangote (22%), Holcium and Orascom. So much for the claims of its Managing Director, Chief Emmanuel Ukpabi of having invested the sum of $800 million on cement production facilities. All these false claims are just to keep Ibeto Cement, a bona fide competitor, out of business. d) Eastern Bulkcem (Eagle Cement) which has a bagging plant in Port-Harcourt with a capacity of 600,000 MT per annum. The company purchased Nigercem Nkalagu from the BPE and is working hard to reactivate it, despite problems with shareholders and labour. This company also suffered victimization during the Obasanjo era for failing to join in the plot against Ibeto Cement. It was shut down for 9 months and three of its cement vessels were prevented from discharging their cargoes. e) Ibeto Cement Company Limited, operating a bagging plant in Port-Harcourt with a production capacity of 1.5 million MT per annum commissioned in July 2005. This plant, erected on virgin mangrove swamp in downstream Port Harcourt reclaimed by Ibeto Cement, was certified by the Federal Ministry of Industry as the best bagging plant in the country. Other operators of bagging plants are utilizing developed NPA facilities. The company is also developing a 5 million MT per annum cement factory in Ebonyi State, in partnership with the government of that state. These two projects were grounded in November 2005 after only four months of the operation of the bagging plant, by the order of the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, applying an executive fiat that was not supported by any discernible rationale, except for the spurious claim by a foreign company, La Farge, that Ibeto Cement was not supporting government industrialisation efforts by not instantaneously completing a local cement manufacturing factory prior to operating the bagging plant which the Federal Government had given it permission to erect. This charge was duly debunked by investigations carried out by the Federal Ministry of Industry which found that Ibeto Cement was very seriously engaged in establishing a cement manufacturing plant in Ebonyi State. Based on the findings of the Inter-ministerial Committee (made up of Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, all cement manufacturers and bagging plant operators, Standards Organization of Nigeria), the former Minister of Industry recommended to the President to reopen the Ibeto Cement factory. To the consternation of most operators in the industry, except of course, the monopolists who had instigated President Obasanjo’s earlier decision to close down the factory, this recommendation was turned down by the former President. f) Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, manufacturing 300,000 MT per annum in Sokoto State. This company is the only producer that is fully dedicated to manufacturing as it does not engage in importation of bulk cement for bagging. 3. Concluding Remarks With all the facts and figures on the ground especially when all cement plants in Nigeria are still importing bulk cement, it is obvious that the closure of the Ibeto Cement plant was ill-motivated and unjust. It was definitely not in the best interest of the generality of Nigerians. We believe that it was grossly unfair, malicious and wicked of those who had enjoyed the right to import and bag bulk cement for 10 to 30 years before venturing into manufacturing, to insist that Ibeto Cement must first build a cement manufacturing factory, before being allowed to operate its own bagging plant. We believe that there is no justification whatsoever in shutting down a 12 billion Naira factory after just four months of operation on the basis of pressure from monopolists, especially when, with all the records available to the Federal government that approved all the applications to set up that bagging plant by Ibeto Cement before the company commenced the project Moreover the Federal Government, through its relevant officials (including the person of the Head of that Government, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo), was constantly briefed on progress of work as the plant was erected on that very challenging virgin mangrove swamp. For the same people who contrived to shut down Ibeto Cement plant to continue in the same vein in an effort to frustrate the wise decision of President Yar’Adua, made after due process of consultation with all relevant government ministries and agencies, to reopen the plant, is simply unpatriotic and selfish. They are all better advised to desist from their efforts at eliminating competition by all means and concentrate on making their operations more efficient. This is the sure way to survive competition in Nigeria’s emerging democracy. Finally, we wish to assure the Federal Government and all Nigerians that, while running our bagging plant in Port Harcourt, we will assiduously and relentlessly continue with the realization of our green field cement manufacturing project in Ebonyi State and will do everything possible to fast-track its completion and commissioning. Dr. Ben You.C. Aghazu Director ( Projects and Public Affairs) Ibeto Cement Company Limited 17th June 2007

Reference: I have very little regards for religion but I have very high regards for rules. And am not hypocritical about things. Nigerians have very scant regards for rules from the top to the bottom in every phase of life. If those students has the rules in black and white and signed up for them at matric. Then they have no case. There is no organisation that does not have rules and standards and most are not open to debate. Continue to wear danshiki to work at the bank and eventually you will be treated like a child. There are organisations that sack for smoking, eating out of place and not wearing seat belts when driving through the gates. The unions are aware of this and sign up to it. As you criticize there are many parents who are all too glad to have their wards obey someone or something for once in their life. It is afterall a choice.
Mr Reference
I understand where you are coming from, I am not so much in contention with their rules and regulations cos as you said it is a matter of choice. However, it behoves on the authorities in this country to ensure that no operator do things arbitrarily all because they are a private institution.
The level of abitrary exertion of power one sees in these schools especially the church run ones is so appalling and exploitative. This people most times make rules and regulations that are stiffling and have no regards to efforts of the parents and guidance that dutifully send their wards to these schools.
Imagine suspending close to 500 students for four weeks just because instead of resuming on saturday 3rd january, they came in 5th january. And these are students due to write exams on the 12th of thesame month. What kind of punishment do one call that? How can you call such a calous set-back punishment? How is anyone supposed to learn from such a wickedness. Amongst those expelled are final year students, how do you explain such to a parents that pays school fees as much as 400k and above? What that means is that they will have to miss the semester exam. What kind of rules be that one? In a civilized clime they would be sued for such a wicked act.
You need to hear the kind of frivolous things that people get suspended for. To a point, they appoint fellow student to spy on their coleagues and give report to the authorities, are all that neccessary in a University. Whatever happened to privacy!! What effect does all thes kind of nonesense have in improving their academics if not to mentally assault their psychy and forcefully make people conform.
The fact is this, NUC are not doing their jobs that is why such things happen. No University else where whether faith based or not arbitrarily wield authority like our so-called "private Universitis" do especially the ones that claim to hear from God himself.

dr stone: Not surprised at comments like these. Same thing was used when LAMIDO SANUSI was being defended by some over his actions in the Banking sector. A prominent northern spokesman say that their grouse was that southerners and especially "Christians" dominated the ownership of Banks, and that they were out to reverse the trend. they further went head that, the best they way should do is to Nationalize these Private Banks, built by individual sweat and put in their stooges to Head and buy up this investments. Others added that a Bank that can further Islamic interests is the answer. So they tried to introduce SHARIA COMPLIANT BANKs with government money. this type of sentiments was what necessitated the take over of Schools built by the sweat, blood and labour Missionaries years back. The Result, a steady decline in the quality of Education.

But using your own arguments and grouse against these Establishments as being set up to further christian views. This is the very reason BOKO Haramites are slicing the throats of "christian infidels" in the North. same reason why Northeners are apprehensive of western Education. Its root are actually Christian in Nature. Most of the Schools in Nigeria's Pre independence history were actually missionary built. However the missionaries did not close their doors to those willing to have an education in their domains.
Try and do a search, the first 150 Universities in the Western world were actually Christian theological institutions.. that includes the likes of Harvard, oxford etc. And i can confirm to you that any muslim Man of notable Ranking in this country has had missionaries contribute to their Enlightenement one way or another.

In the Far Northern Part of the Country where i grew up, Islamic religious Knowledge was forced on us when i was in primary school. And by Schools I mean Govt owned Schools. If it happens to be a Sharia compliant school, it is not even a question. You saw it before you opted for it.
Thoughts like yours is what stifles the spirit of free enterprise and liberty. Some of the Best intitutions of these country are owned by the Catholics. And when they do these things they give it all it takes, and that includes their vows, sacrifice, discipline, heart and sometimes their entire lifetime/Life. The Government owned institution are there who do not demand such discipline and sacrifice, why dont you focus your attention there or else get something of your taste that can be as good or better. To build Great institutions is not by empty talk, (Ask most Governments why they are not able to do things right). Instead of lets PULL THEM(ChristianINFIDEL CONMEN) DOWN down Bad-belle syndrome.. without any better alternative of your own to show on Ground, Give Kudos to individuals who are able to lift up he Quality of life of their own constituency and hope to emulate them for your constituency as well!!!! Thats how things get better done!!
Nigga please shut up you are mouthing off useless redundant platitudes. What has bokoharam and sanusi got to do with anything here. Do you even understand the gibberish you are spewing here?? Which Oxford, Cambridge and Havard are church owned?? How old is this kid that is incapable of comprehension? You keep contradicting yourself with incoherent argument and muddling up issues. You are a pathetic lier that whose words worths nothing to even the mouth that speaks it, which Northern state is sharia compliant? Until between 2000-2002 when Northerners felt OBJ had shortchanged them and started using the issue of making the 19 northern state compliant, No northern state has actually practised it before then and after it died down. Where in the north did you attend government owned school that enforced islamic studies on you? Whicg government school by the way? State or FG? Don't come here using generic statements to argue with me I care less about such a stooopid antics of argument. I attended a missionary school myself, we had alot of muslim students there too, my class captain was a muslim yoruba named Wahab, I am talking of St Finbarr's college in Akoka. Nobody was forced to observe catholic prayers or even attend the ash wednesday mass inside the school. Neither was any muslim punished for expressing his faith.
The basis of your argument is so faulty, petty and contraductory that it unwittingly strengthened my argument that emphasizing religion in higher institutions of learning has further divided us and create more acrimony amongst us. The method of forceful forcing people to observe some setdown religious creed as done in CU is nothing different from those Bokoharam goons you are demonizing, both methods smirks off ignorance and intolerance, simple. Your argument is weak and contradictory plus you don't need to lie to butress your point. You are just as intolerant and arrogant as the people you accuse, your types are obviously the reason why I made the statement in the first place .

AK 48: Why r people not seeing what I m seeing?

Dangote on one hand is manufacturing locally and employing thousands of nigerian graduate n school cert holder, while on the other hand ibeto is "importing" all ready made cement, indirectly employing thousands of foreigner.

Keeping sentiment aside,I think ibeto should be discouraged by fire by force against importation, let him build plants n employ us.
I don't av a job............
My friend, it is you who has not been following the goings-on in Nigeria's Cement factory. In 2005 Dangote in connivance with FG, and the Lafarge group forced Ibeto( who was then the largest importer of Cement) out of business under the pretence that he, Dangote was ready to start manufacturing cement locally even when it was then very clear that he could not meet up with demands. What did he do after forcing his major competitor out, he increased his import quota and monopolized the cement industries. Just as he claimed he was building a Cement factory to cater for the market, Ibeto to too had a very large cement factory he was building until FG and Dangote closed them, they both were importing cement and bagging them in their factories. Ibeto went to court and won thus giving rise to the benefits he now enjoys, as we speak, nobody, I repeat none of them, Ibeto and Dangote has the capacity presently to meet the demand except through importation and bagging it in their factories, Fact. Forget all that noise Dangote was making about Obajana, their capacity is meagre and dangote still imports cement, if you doubt me, take a walk to his cement factory to confirm, what they do there is bagging of imported cement just thesame as Ibeto, so why is he crying loud. They are serving him his own medicine, he has no business acumene than to force compititor out of the game, now he has met his match in Ibeto he is screaming blue murder.
Business › Re: Dangote Vs Ibeto: Judge Wants Single Hearing by rhymz(m): 1:47pm On Jul 05, 2012
DNESDAY, JULY 4TH, 2012 By Tunde Opeseitan, Snr Reporter, Lagos Billionaire businessman and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has sued the Federal Government at a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over a waiver granted to one of his major competitors in the cement manufacturing industry, Ibeto Cement Company. Dangote, who filed the suit through one of his companies, Dangote Cement Limited, is seeking the revocation of the purported waiver to Ibeto together with an order compelling Ibeto and its subsidiaries to pay to the Federal Government some unpaid import duties estimated at billions of naira. When the case came up on Tuesday, Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako ruled that she would conduct a simultaneous hearing on Dangote’s originating motion and the defendants’ preliminary objection with a view to saving time. The judge maintained her position to take all pending applications at once despite argument to the contrary by the two lead defence lawyers, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) and Fabian Ajogwu (SAN). Dangote had, in the suit named Ibeto and its subsidiaries (IBG Investment Limited, Derima Ventures Ltd), Federal Republic of Nigeria, Attorney General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Finanace, Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Board of Customs and Excise, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) as co-defendants. Counsel to Ibeto and its subsidiaries, Ikpeazu, and his counterpart for the government agencies, Ajogwu, had argued that since their objection challenged the court’s jurisdiction, the preliminary objection ought to be determined first and separately. It is Dangote Cement’s claim that Ibeto, acting in concert with its subsidiaries, IBG and Derima Ventures, suppressed facts and acted fraudulently in obtaining a consent judgment against the Federal Government in consolidated suits marked FHC/Abj/ CS/400/2006 and FHC/Abj/CS/496/2010. In the consent judgment, the court ordered the government to pay Ibeto about N7.8 billion for the unjustified closure of its plant between 2005 and 2007 and set aside a 2010 Presidential directive raising import duties and abolishing the import waiver granted Ibeto between 2007 and 2017. By the judgment, Ibeto was to continue paying 5 per cent import duty till 2017. Dangote further accused Ibeto and other defendants in the suit of colluding with each other to confer an advantage on Ibeto and its subsidiaries, by allegedly being allowed to import bulk cement with only 5 per cent import tax, excluding Value Added Tax (VAT) as against a Presidential directive of July 8, 2010 directing all cement importers to pay 20 per cent import duty and 5 per cent VAT. The plaintiff, which claimed to be the largest investor in cement manufacturing in the country, argued that the non- implementation of the Presidential directive of 2010 and other earlier directives regulating the tax on imported cement, has denied the Federal Government, FIRS and related agencies of their deserved incomes from such importation. It noted, for instance, that Ibeto, through its subsidiaries, allegedly denied the government of revenue estimated at about N880 million in 2008, N2 billion in 2009, N4.2 billion in 2010 and N8.9 billion in 2011. Dangote, in its originating summons, set seven questions for the court’s determination and urged the court to among others, declare that the President lacked the powers to waive or alter the provisions of the VAT Act without the National Assembly. It also prayed the court to declare that the 2010 Presidential directive constituted a cancellation of the waiver or tax relief granted Ibeto in 2007. The plaintiff urged the court to order the Federal Government to recover all duties and taxes owed by Ibeto and its subsidiaries, by virtue of the 2010 directive, an order setting aside the consent judgment and an order directing Ibeto, IBG and Deriva to refund the N7.8 billion paid to it by the government by virtue of the judgment. It further prayed for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the three companies from further importing cement into the country except as newly approved by the appropriate authorities under the current fiscal tax policy stipulations currently in force. The Federal Government, in its counter affidavit urged the court to dismiss the suit. It said Dangote’s claims in the suit were “anti-competition and designed to control the entire cement industry and leave Nigerians at the mercy of the plaintiff’s (Dangote’s) price whims and caprices.” It denied Dangote’s allegation that the consent judgment was obtained fraudulently. Government also denied that Ibeto suppressed any fact and misled the court into granting the consent judgment. Besides, government also queried Dangote’s locus standi in instituting the suit. It argued that since Dangote was not a party in the consolidated suits in which the consent judgment was given, and since it was not directly affected by the judgment, it lacked the right to challenge the judgment. Government also contended that since Dangote lacked the statutory powers to recover unpaid tax on behalf of the government, it cannot institute cases with the aim of recovering government’s purported unpaid tax. Also in their joint counter affidavit, Ibeto, IBG and Derima denied all allegations by Dangote. They denied any allegation of fraud and misrepresentation. They claimed to have legitimately consent judgment and the Presidential waiver, allowing them to import bulk cement by paying 5 per cent import duty between 2007 and 2017.

No fewer than 120 students may have been expelled by the authorities of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, for what has been described as “wilful disobedience and insubordination” on the part of the students. Sunday Sun sources informed that already 66 of them have been served letters of dismissal. The affected students, however, say it is victimization and nothing more. In an interview with Sunday Sun, a father of one of the affected students, who was visibly miffed by the action of the school authorities, threatened legal action. According to him, his son, Akwa Bassey, a third year student of Accounting in the university was expelled along with more than a hundred others for coming to the assembly hall without their bibles. Mr Bassey said the action was rather hasty for an inordinately expensive institution where parents pay several millions of Naira for their children’s education. Sunday Sun investigation revealed that the Accounting student had gone for early morning fitness exercise shortly before the general assembly on that day. By the time he got back to his hostel, his roommate had locked the door to their room. So he couldn’t take his bible to the general assembly. When students were asked to raise their bibles at the gathering, some obviously did not come with theirs. The defaulting students were reportedly ordered out from the assembly and summarily expelled. “They were not even suspended for some days or reprimanded verbally but were dismissed just like that. It is unheard of and simply inhuman,” Mr. Bassey fumed. But responding to Sunday Sun enquiry, the institution’s corporate/ public affairs officer, Mr Egban Emmanuel Kalu, denied knowledge of the expulsion of the students. “I am not aware of any such dismissal in the school,” he said in a telephone conversation. He, however, promised to get back to the newspaper an hour later, saying he wanted to get confirmation and because he was driving at the time. But he never did. Much later and several calls after, Mr Egban still refused to pick his call even though his cell phone rang incessantly about 7pm. However, Sunday Sun learnt that a meeting had been hastily convened at press time by the university to bar any person or official of the school from speaking with the press on the matter.

Nigeria is littered with people like him who are just HAPPILY too lazy to use their brains in question the goings-on in their environment; HAPPILY castrated sheeple eternally programmed to be dominated and shackled for the rest of their lives, by bible-clutching hooligans they call heroes.
hahahaha. . At times I find it hard to believe that these people actually are humans with functining brains in their head. The management of these private Universities are more interested in making profit and increasing public patronage. From Madonna to Convenant to Lead City, they are all thesame thing. The only difference is the level of infrastructure they have but their management style is thesame, their philosophies are tied to one thing-maximizing profits. Before now, the Law department in Leed City was scrapped and the school took the matter to court. My friend there told me that the school fees increase was done in every session, she told me how some people had to drop along the way when it became obvious they could not continue to foot the bills.
In convenant, there have been reports of how Oyedepo and his gang arbitrarily rusticated almost a hundred students some in their final year, all because they did not come to the "assembly hall" or whatever they call their gathering with bibles. Imagine!!! We have heard of stories how the handlers in this school threaten and attack the psychy of students by using statements like, "your opinions do not matter", "you chose us, we did not choose you", all in a bid to pass the message that there is no freedom of expression of thoughts here. A Muslim student has been denied admission in convenant before on the basis of his religion, yet these rascals stand on the pulpit and preach about love and tolerance. Go to their website, there is no such thing as bursery or scholarship scheme, everyone pays for their education. The system inside the school is an autocratic one, you are not allowed to do anything until "Papa Go" says you can, you can't even think independly without the intimidating presence of Oyedepo sprawling all over your thoughts.
Na this kind schools na im person wan carry go outside naija and expect their certificates to be taken seriously. What qualification does Oyedepo hold to be the VC of a school? How many Professors, associate profs, visiting profs, exchange program and co do the students and staff engage in. . How many of their lecturers go on sabbatical anyway. With all the money they collect, why we never here of the 21 century state of the art engineering facilities in their schools, am curious to see their labs and machines. . All we see are just buildings occupying space. . .private University indeed

@bigboy
It is not called a private University so that can have their own rules different from what others are doing, my dear.
It is private because the funding and management of the schools are in the hands of private individuals and organization. Of course they are allowed to make laws in their school but with stipulated guidlines from NUC. Convenant to the best of my knowledge is not a convent or a nun, so why the heavy emphasis on religious doctrineshuh It would have been a very different case if they had registered as a theology University or some ascetic academy so everyone knows that is what is expected when you go there. Not decieve people into believing you that you run a University only for you to start slipping in strict religious doctrines on everyone without respecting anyone's private beliefs or right to believe in what they want. There are church run Universities abroad they don't make their church doctrines binding on anyone neither are their VCs or Deans neccessarily pastors, evangelists and the likes, convenant is no theology school so why run it like one and make adult students miserable. Do you know how that hinders effectiveness in thought progress and social skills? Come on!

I won't have been able to achieve all this without some help from my "poor education" as you call it. My school was not the best especially in terms of infrastructure but show me the Fed or State Uni that has it all in Naija? I hope my school sorts out the issue with NUC on time but I am happy it happened in a way. Let them correct the mistakes they made with their pioneer students so that new undergrads don't go through the hardship some of us did.
I want to assume your school was Madonna. Thank God for you but I dare say, that even if you had not attended your school you still would have been better off, perhaps more intelligent sef. Seriously, there is something fundamentally wrong with the way most private Universities are run, most of the times by individuals with little or no experience in Acadamic management. It even shows in the kind of restrictions that hinders independent thoughts and ideas needed to fit in in this ever conpetetive world. Currently, I have 2 of my cousins in Madonna, one chose Madona because she did not do well in her WAEC exams. Her experience in the school is not so flattery neither is she an academic firebrand. Seriously, NUC has not been proactive.

I am so surprise that most of these church run schools did not make the list.
Apart from the fact that many of the schools did not meet the NUC's operational requirements, the way these schools are run leave a lot to be concern about. Schools like Convenant and Redeemer Universities should have been on the list, their owners probably have NUC officials as members, little wonder they did not show on the list.
Nigerian private Universities are a joke and a mockery of what a good religious run University should be. Schools where very unqualified people hold the post of VC all because they own the school, they arbitrarily choose pastors and evangelists to head sensitive positions in the school management. People who hitherto have had no prior experience in running a University are allowed to make very humanly demeaning rules fashioned by their intolerant religious sense of right and wrong; little wonder you go to such schools and all you hear is how the management busies themselves with laws that add little or no progress to the academic development of such schools. Imagine after paying truckloads of cash to educate your kid only for one to hear that s/he had been rusticated from school cos he did not attend the assemble with his bible, imagine making christian religious study a major course for a person studying medicine, engineering, law, and other sciences. If you fail this religious course, you are forced to write them or else you will not graduate. In convenant you are not even allowed to wear a jersey, own a camera phone, have independent academic thoughts or even disagree intellectually with the authorities, yet it is a University. Is there any difference between these so-called church run Universities and rehabilitation centres? Are the students there being taught what they came there to know or what the school Church authorities want them to know. Why should a muslim student be forced to observe prayers different from his own or even study christian religious studies as a major even when his program should have no bearing on such study. Are the NUC aware of this arbitrariness in the way these church gangstars operate?? As if the mass indoctrinations in their churches are not enough they have to still drag it to the school? We want investment in our education but not these ones abeg!! Gone are the days when churches make claims of running any business outside the church as a way to help the poor; that argument has become stale and redundant, they are all profit driven with little or no quality education as they like to claim. Having beautiful buildings inside an enclosed landmass space does not transcend to quality education.
NUC should also take that aspect seriously, there is too much arbitrariness in the way these bible wielding conmen run these schools and put a price tag on education.

Boko Haram:NYSC stops posting of 14,850 graduates to North JULY 5, 2012 BY JOHN ALECHENU, ABUJA 73 COMMENTS At last, the National Youth Service Corps has bowed to pressure and rescinded the decision to post 14,850 corps members to troubled northern states. It has directed the affected corps members to report at the NYSC headquarters for redeployment to states considered safe. A statement by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-General Nnamdi Okore-Affia, in Abuja on Wednesday, directed corps members posted to Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna states to immediately report to the NYSC headquarters for redeployment. This came barely 24 hours after an earlier insistence by the NYSC that corps members posted to the affected areas must first report to camp before requests for redeployment could be considered. Okore-Affia has also directed all those deployed in Yobe and Borno states to report to new orientation camps in Nasarawa and Benue states respectively. The statement reads, “This is to inform all prospective corps members deployed to Yobe and Borno states for the 2012 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course to note the following: “Yobe State prospective corps members will now hold their orientation course at the Nasarawa State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi, Keffi LGA, and not as stated on their call-up letters. “Borno State prospective corps members will undertake their orientation programme at the Benue State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Wanume, Tarka LGA, and not as stated on their call-up letters. “Date: Thursday 26th July-Thursday 16th August, 2012, as earlier published. “In addition, all 2012 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members deployed to Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna states who have collected their call-up letters but are yet to report in camp should immediately report at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja for redeployment.” The statement is silent on the fate of those who have already reported in camp in compliance with the earlier directive. However, a senior official of the corps confided in our correspondent that those who had complied would not be discriminated against. “Requests by those who responded to the earlier directive to report will be given expeditious consideration because we must not send the wrong signals to those who are law-abiding,” the official who asked not to be named said. A female youth corps member who reported in the Plateau State camp confirmed to our correspondent on the telephone that they were given re- deployment request forms yesterday. Fourteen thousand corps members were posted to troubled northern states. Data obtained by The Punch revealed that 1,050 corps members were posted to Borno State, the same number was posted to Yobe State while Gombe, Kano, and Kaduna states had 2,500 corps members each. Bauchi had 1,500 while 2,300 corps members were posted to Plateau State.

Look at how they've given the women special privilege to dance on their own like their superior to native women. Then you wonder why a German or even an Indian comes to your country and sets dogs on you.

'Oyibo' is a minority in Igboland, and it isn't an accomplishment to have Europeans 'full' your land in the first place. And "white people" are not 'republicans' by nature (I guess you mean their society?), even if they were, it doesn't make Igbo people any less or better because they're similar to Europeans. You're actually giving the people that constantly abuse you in your own country privilege, something they never do in their own countries or even colonies.
