Remii: Sometimes I wonder who is actually intolerant of the other between Xtians and Muslims. Why must Xtians take posture of fighting anything Islamic to stand still? Nigeria would not be the first place to have Islamic bank, why must these so called elite refuse to get over bigotory when it comes to religionSeriously eh, many of you, especially the muslims that like to see oppositions from none-muslims as a christian attack need to first understand the issues being discussed before yelling out utter ignorance and painting the wrong picture. Whether you like it or not, Nigeria's constitution is secular and has the contributions of muslims, christians, atheist and so on. Muslims are not the only ones with rights as Nigerians just as every non-muslim is not a christian. Even amongst Islamic scholars and student, one can sense that laziness and dishonesty in the way they argue about the implementation of Islamic banking. Need I remind most of you that Soludo started the process of initiating Islamic banking based on the the laws guiding non-interest banking which Islamic banking claims to be one of. Soludo granted licence in principle to Jaiz Bank using thesame guidelines that regulates every non-interest banking operation in the country. He did not create laws different from what the constitution allows for non- interest banking. Sanusi on the other hand, first separated Islamic banking from the conventional non-interest banking and unilaterally created new guide lines that enables the establishment of full fledged islamic banking. These new guidelines now give the CBN the power to licence full-fledged Islamic banks, full-fledged Islamic merchant banks, full-fledged Islamic Microfinance banks, Islamic development banks, Islamic primary mortgage banks and Islamic finance corporations. The guidelines also replaced the Sharia Advisory Councils with Advisory Council of Experts to work with the Institutions Offering Islamic Financial Services while the CBN will have its own Advisory Council of Experts but is, however, silent on the roles and modes of appointment of members. Islamic banking operates under the principles of sharia laws which our constitution does not recognize in this regard. Besides, these laws are very discriminatory, for example each of this banks will have an islamic advisory council who will give advice, see to it that the banks operate strictly by the laws of sharia and be responsible for decisions taken by the banks. Only muslims with islamic banking expertise will be on this council, what about Nigerians who are not muslims but want to participate? I have read many literature and article on the usefulness of this sharia-compliant banks that claim to operate with charging profits. Like seriously, do they have a different definition of what an INTEREST is? The basic and foremost characteristic of Islamic financing is that, instead of a fixed rate of interest, it is based on profit and loss sharing and marked up commissions”. For instance you want to buy a car worth N 1,000,000.00, the bank buys the car in its name and resells the same to you at N 1,200,000.00 and you pay N 100,000.00 per month for 12 months. Till you pay 20% extra. Unless the issue here is about semantics and connotations, the 20% charge is an interest and makes mockery of the whole claims of non-interest which is actually the most prominent feature claims of islamic financing. I can go on and on about the impractibility of the claims of Islamic financing, little wonder their effects have only been in nominal terms and nothing tangible and serious. Let no man decieve you all, islamic banking and financing as practised today accept charges through all kinds of guises and names. There is also the issue of moral rectitude and equality, if only muslims will be allowed on the council or management board of these islamic banks, will it be fair for a muslim to be on the management board of conventional banks who collect the forbidden riba that is the reason for the islamic banking in the first place? Why will you discriminate against me from participating on the management of your banks only to be in the mangement of the banks you claim collect riba and commit sins? Is that not double dealing? |
Moderators this topic should be on the front page, afterall, we have the one by the PDP Ofodile on front page. Surprisingly, Ofodile was silent about the poverty claims of El rufai which depicts a whole Anambra as poorer than Yobe, Taraba and Sokoto. Hahahah. . . I am presently in Sokoto, Sabon Birnin LGA to be precise, Sokoto is a very poor state with an intoxicating amount of illiterate Citizenry. Thank God I am presently in Sokoto, apart from the main Sokoto town, the state is one vast village. Sabon Birnin is the largest LGA in Sokoto but they have nothing here to show for its status. The only good thing about sokoto is the good road network which almost does not exeperience any serious vehicular activities. Here, young people rarely go to school, the women are almost not allowed to do anything, not even trade. Once they are married, they are limited only to the sitting rooms of their husbands, they are not allowed to see daylight or come out neither are you as a stranger or brother allowed inside, Bashiga is the watch word here or you risk being maimed. Na this kind society na im person wan take compare Anambra state .. .lol.. El Rufai is a dumb as$ joker |
adaybayor: You suffer from hereditary foolishnessyou have got $hits for brains. . . . If I were you(thank God I am not) I will blow my brains off. . What a person!! Your I.Q is in the minus. Stop quoting ppl as if you have got the brain power to debate the issue, you 4ucking lambrain. |
People just hear "no interest charge" and go haywire clamouring for it without exactly asking what the pre-requisites are for obtaining their lones, what are the terms of agreements. Do you know that to borrow money from an islamic bank, a business will have to give full disclosure of its profits since the bank will have to go into a profit sharing partnership with the business. Like how many serious Nigerian business owners laden with all the multiple taxes and levies he has to pay both state and fed government, not to talk of overhead expenses will be willing to share the meagre profits they make just because they borrowed money from the banks. Do you all know that account holders in these banks are not entitled to any interest on the money kept in the vaults of these banks except when they are actually in business with the banks? By the nature of these banks they are heavily restricted to do just basic banking business hence the sources of funds for these banks are seriously limited. Most of their funds as supposed to be going to very small businesses whom most of the times do not get the monies as they hardly meet the pre-requisites of these banks. Then there is the security aspect to worry about as activities of these banks will be greatly shrouded in secrecy. For instance, in countries like iran and pakistan where they have islamic banking laws as their conventional banking system, the banks are not allowed to disclose the identity of account holders to the authorities, imagine a very porous country like Nigeria having banks whose activities can't be in the full glare of the public Gush, I shudder at the prospect of what will happening. The problem here is that we do not have a cerebral president or Senate with equipped knowledge of what the islamic banking system is all about. They are only concerned with the illusional benefits without understanding how they hope to achieve these. People citing britain and America as countries with islamic banks fail to understand that in those countries, they operate under the guidance of non-interest banking rules and regulations of these countries. They do not have any paralell islamic laws along side the secular laws that guides regular banking systems there. There is no such thing as an Islamic council operated by their federal banks to oversee islamic banking in those countries, those are left at the discretion of each of those islamic banks. Even in core islamic states that practice it heavily, they have had to amend their constitution to accommodate the demands of islamic banking in their country. Here in Nigeria, in the event of a litigation between any of these banks and a client, our legal system do not have the expertise to hear the cases on the basis of the country's constitutional provisions. Besides, with the violence and agitation by Boko haram in the north for sharia laws, it is only a matter of time before most of the conventional banks will be intimidated out of northern Nigeria in exchange for islamic banks. Already, the man behind the JAIZ bank, Muttalab's Dad(whom obviously was one of the people pushing Sanusi) has already announced that the bank was going to be a regional bank- remember how Sanusi had to categorize our banks when he came in and gave us foolish explanations, now use your tongue to count your teeth. I see some power brokers in the north trying to use Sanusi to get some serious economic relevance and control for their region through the back door, Sanusi. Whoever does not see the plot is delusional, thinking there is going to be economic benefits for all Nigerian is laughable, wait until the so-called islamic council scheme you out with bureaucratic bottlenecks when you apply to their banks as a non-muslim. |
I once pointed out the imminent problems Sanusi's unilateral licensing will cause. We never even finish the argument already person don drag the matter go court. . .lol. Sanusi acted like a desperado and tried to exploit our financial laws using his position as CBN governor. People should stop peddling lies about the CBN having unilateral powers to alter the rules guiding the establishment of Non-interest banking. Sanusi hurriedly drafted guidelines that gave the islamic banking system a superior status different other non-interest banking models without any recourse to the legislature to review the BOFIA act of 2004. Even if CBN has powers to issue such licence, approvals must come from the finance minister. When Jaiz bank got its licence there was no minister. What sanusi did was illegal, he overstretched his powers and tried to usurp the powers of the legislature. The CBN can only give licence based such drafted guideline after the minister of finance has approved of it. The minister on the other hand wont dare give such approvals until such guidelines have been legislated at the NA and signed into the BOFIA act. Anything outside that is illegal and Sanusi knows this. |
Mr Globe If you must argue please do so from an objective standpoint regardless of your political inclination. Most of the Igbos that support El Rufai's falsehood are political opponents of Peter Obi that are ready to do anything to rubbish his government no matter what he has or has not done. Even Fashola gets thesame treatments from Yorubas in the PDP. They peddle all manner of falsehood and exaggerate his mistakes. We all saw how his detractors exploited the Sacked Doctors issues and stuff like that. I care less about defending Obi's administration but I will not agree or condemn wholeheartedly the developments in Anambra state or allow myself to be indirectly used as an agent of divisive politics through spreading of falsehood or outright distortion of facts. I have been to Kano and Kaduna( the pride states of the north) and now I am in Sokoto, none of these northern state can boast of being better than Anambra state in any ramification even with their past and present heavy FG patronage, FACT!!! Like I have said before, El Rufai's intent goes beyond innocently critiquing the Government of Peter Obi, it was a direct and deliberate attack on the people of Anambra and in a way, a subtle attack on the entire southeast people, trying to paint a grotesque image of the subregion using Anambra as a launchpad all in preparation for 2015. There is no sincerity of purpose in his intent, it is all politics and divisive machination to cause confusion. If you understand Obi's position and influence in APGA as an Igbo political party and as an Igbo leader, you will understand why he had to pick on Obi. Obi might not have done well in all rammifications but I dare say, his performance in Anambra towers higher above the performances of Kano and kaduna state governors. If El rufai wants to genuinely write on mispriorities, the north is a perfect case study. The government system here does not support the people here in anyway, it is all politics and no substance. They have no programs here to educate their people about backward cultures and traditions that put them in the vicious cycle of poverty. A 15yr old girl in the North has no formal education and is already one of the many wives of a poverty stricken man with no sustainable means of survival. The people of the north care little about education, most of the professional establishments here are manned by Yorubas, Igbos and niger-deltans. He should pressure the governments here to be sincere and help their people. Hausa breed childrien here en mass without any plans for them and yet Mr El Rufia wants to pontificate about misprioities to a state that has way more wealth and development than people from his state. Talk of lip service and insincerity of purpose at its highest order. |
I am more interested in El Rufai's interest in Anambra statement. It is like a single or divorced relationship counsellor giving advice to couples that are experiencing problems. Why should anyone take the counsel from such person serioulsly giving their status? And why would the single or divorced counsellor choose to counsel on marriage knowing fully well that his/her status already disqualifies her from giving such counsel unless of course he/she has something siniter in mind against couples. All what some of us, Umu Igbo -trying to be objective, not wanting to be distracted by the temptations of questioning the man's guts to take on a state that is way better than most of the states in the region the writer comes from -see is a man merely criticizing Gov Obi's administration without seeing the true intent behind the article, the deliberate misrepresentation of facts and the reality on ground. How can anyone in all sincerity imply that there is poverty in Anambra state? Or imply that Anambra state is a rural state? Come'on, there's no honesty in such deliberate, fabricated falsehood. If his true intention was to discuss Obi's administration, did he have indulge in deliberate twisting of facts and reality just to make his point? Let's be sincere to ourselves, Anambra, in the Nigerian sense can't be termed a rural state, lai lai! If Anambra is rural then states like Oyo, Kano and Kaduna are big villages. Obi's performance may have been disappointing but it is very dishonest for anyone to try to pass it as backward, underdeveloped, poverty stricken and educationally disadvantaged. Am not trying to defend anyone or do a "my-state-is-better-than-yours" ego boosting talk but I am yet to see any state here in the north that I am now, better than Anambra in all the developmental indexex. 70% of northerners are utterly illiterate, this is not hear-say, it is a fact I have come to know since my stay here in the north. They have excellent good road network no doubt but the good roads hardly experience any serious vehicular activities. Even in their Cities here, one finds it extremely hard to communicate with Hausas. Most of the big and formal business here in Sokoto are owned by southerners, Igbos of Anambra origin espcially. I find it ironical that EL Rufai can extensively make critical research on a state like Anambra with a far more superior developmental achievements to show than his state and most of the other popular northern state. It is obvious the man's intent goes beyond mere social commentary and critique, there are obvious undertones of propaganda politics at play. That is the crust of his esoteric article, do not be fooled umu igbo. |
Nanny watched as 5yr old girl was rapedat Bolingo Hotel, mom alleges The rape of a five-year-old girl is generating the interest of the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Muhammed Bello Adoke (SAN), who on Wednesday applied to a Wuse Magistrate Court to take charge of its prosecution from the Police. The 5 year old girl was allegedly raped at Bolingo Hotel by a certain Godwin Okon, a cleaner in the hotel. Mr. Ejike Orji, a lawyer from the AGF’s chambers, made an oral application to the court to convey the AGF’s interest in taking over the matter because it involved a foreign citizen. However, counsel to the accused, Suleiman Usman, opposed the application, arguing that the AGF could not takeover a criminal case without the fiatof an attorney general of the state, taking Abuja topossess the status of a state. After both sides had been heard, Magistrate Folashade Oyekan fixed Monday 25th June for counsel’s submission of written addresses on the propriety of the AGF’s desire. Mother of the rape victim, Queen Moses Idris, had reported the matter to the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria, citing weakness of Police prosecution. But she was advised to first exhaust all internal mechanisms before inviting the Commission. She consequently sought the intervention of the AGF, who instructed a lawyer in his chambers to follow the case up. In a letter to the AGF, she accused the Police, particularly the IPO of deliberately frustrating the matter by not turning up in court. The house help, Miss. Bright, who was in custody of the minor at the time of the rape, has since been apprehended by the National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic inPersons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP). According to Idris, her daughter is currently receiving treatment at Kings Care Hospital Abuja, after contracting Sexually Transmitted Virus (STV) from 35-year-old Okon. She said her daughter, whowas unable to eat, drink or excrete for more than aweek, is suffering from “Yielded profubed staph spotter Utlus” and “mellonotigreen mecid discharge” on her vulva. “We logged into Bolingo Hotel in Abuja on 11th March 2012. Two weeks later, I secured a 28-year-old house help called Bright, through an agency; and on 8th May, my daughter was sexually molested. I will say rape because it has to do with MouthAction,” she said. “The 35-year-old Godwin Okon, who works as a house cleaner in the hotel, connived with my house help and did anal sex with my daughter. This man is a professional because at the end of the day nothing happened at the front (vagina). Hepenetrated my daughter through the anus and gave her his manhood for sucking. The house help, being an accomplice, told my daughter that ‘If youtell your mum, she will spank you,’ so my daughter became scared and she didn’t tell me about the first incident.” Continuing, she said. “The same thing repeated itself more severely on Friday, the 11th, at about 8pm, when Okon was not working. As a cleaner, he was done with his job by 3pm. But by 8pm, Eliana said the house help invited Okon again to the room, and the same thing happened. “This time around, my house help, Bright was sitting in the room, pretending to be watching African Magic while Okon sat, zipped down, brought out his manhood and told my daughter to sit. While my daughter was sitting on his lap, hetried to penetrate with his dick. When she felt the sharp pain at her bombom like she calls it, she jumped out and cried and said ‘Aunty bright, are you not seeing what Mr. Okon is trying to do?’ Bright repeated that ‘if you say anything to your mummy, your mummy will beat you.’ “At that point, Okon said he was going and at that point Aunty Bright said ‘go with Mr. Okon and lock the door.’ When she tried to lock the door, Okon zipped down again, brought his manhood and told my daughter to masturbate it, and told my daughter that it doesn’t hurt, that it is very soft. While he was doing that, he put his manhood in my daughter’s mouth and said ‘suck it like orange’and she said, ‘while it was in my mouth mummy, I later felt some yacky stuff in my mouth, so at that point, he released.’ My daughter said it is ‘very yacky and she ran away, opened the door and left.” Meanwhile, THEWILL can report that the management of Bolingo had in the past few weeks spent huge sums to compromise the case atthe local police post where it was first reported. They also moved to lobby local media houses not to report the incident. Having failed in their effort to get the media out of the story, management has cooked up a denial saying the infant’s mother owes them over a million naira in unpaid bills adding that she came up with the rape story after she was written to payup.

@Mapet Like I suspected, you are yet to acquaint yourself with the real facts about your Hero, MKO Abiola. You obviously do not know much about the events that led to June 12 and the ITT story. Let me give you a little history lesson that you obviously are in dire need of. In 1977 a constituent assembly was elected to draft a new constitution, which was published on September 21, 1978. MKO Abiola was a member of that constituent assembly. Now you know in what capacity he would have signed the 1978 constitution. As for how Abiola emerged as the flagbearer of SDP, it is very naive of you to imply that the processes were anything close to free and fair. It was alleged that Abiola used his money power to buy delegates. After the annulment of the 1992 presidential primaries of NRC & SDP,MKO Abiola indicated interest in running for presidency "after due consultations," but he had Alhaji Babagana Kingibe, former National Chairman of the party, and Musa Yar'Adua to contend with. Yar'Adua was banned from the contest, but someone was representing his interest, Abubakar Atiku. At the Jos Convention of the SDP, Abiola lost the first round to Babagana Kingibe, but because Kingibe did not make the simple majority, the trio of Kingibe, Abiola and Atiku had to go for run-off. Where Ambassador Kingibe was spending N500, N2, 000 to buy delegates, Abiola upped the stakes to N10, 000, N20, 000 per delegate. It was even allegefd that Abiola gave N10m cash to Lamidi Adedibu. And the late Adedibu was captured on tape with wads of Naira notes shouting to Oyo State delegates “Eyin ara Ibadan, Owo Abiola ti de”. Delegates for Atiku and Kingibe moved and switched to Abiola. It was all cash and carry for Abiola. Abiola won the second round and he became the flag bearer of SDP. As for the ITT allegation, I will advise that it is you who should move on if you can't stomach the fact that Abiola did not only bloat the cost of the contract, but as well supplied substandard shit to Nigeria. ITT's contract was to seek and provide workable and effective telephone services for Nigeria. Instead, ITT's actors and their contractors manipulated, twisted and duped the republic. Till date, one cannot point to any telephone installations, installed across the country and its villages. What ITT did in Nigeria with the Tele-communication project is mind boggling. Either that the ITT representatives and its collaborators pocketed the funds meant for building a reliable telecommunication gridlock for the benefit and well-being of the Nigerian people or that little or no telephone services were provided for Nigerians. Yet "your HERO" got the FG to pay for it, as if that was not enough, he got the FG to pay thousand percent of the real cost of the contract he did not even bother to execute. Seriously dude, before you come out to write off any dissident opinion about "your HERO" try to do your homework well, I have to get back to my work now but please stop spewing bullocks like you know the man very well even when your own explanations betrays you, I hate being tempted to leave my work only to be schooling you. |

mapet: Madam,Ok kid, I will gladly oblige your request. ITT was a telecommunication company that got the contract to install telephone booths in Nigeria in preparation for the FESTAC 77. What ITT supplied were refurbished telephone booths, mere decorations that never worked. This was the company Abiola represented. Late General Murtala Mohammed was the Federal Commissioner for Communications then before he took over from Yakubu Gowon in 1976. Abiola got the Federal government through his khaki friend Murtala Mohammed to pay for the contract. He was always Wining and dining with the khaki guys na. Now you know the story, so what next? |
fmgold: He won the election not based on ethnicity or religion, but by GOODWILL. Maybe nairalanders were too young to remember. We will never have the opportunity to vote for such a personality again in this country, neither will we have such a sentimental and violence free elections ever again, thanks to Babangida who made it look like only the north can rule this country and everyone now thinks about presidential rotation that never crossed our mind in 1993Obviously, you are the one that needs a history lesson on June 12. Abiola would not have even come up if IBB his friend and now foe did not cancel the first presidential primaries which he did not participate in and Musa Yaradua won squarely. It is believed that he incited his friend, IBB to annul the initial Presidential primaries of both NRC and SDP and ban all the contestants to give way for him to contest knowing very well that should Musa Yaradua contest again in the SDP presidential primaries, he Abiola wont stand a chance. Talking about everyone voting him like he did not lose in some states in the east and north is pure exaggeration. Abiola did not win the 1993 election because he was genuinely loved across the country but because Nigerians were desperate for a change from Military rule and the northan oligarchy, anyone but a northan soldier. Tofa was not even a serious contender, the odds were also against him as he was from the north and southerners were tired of anything from there. Besides, the man was not realy familiar with our political terrain as he was not even based in Nigeria. It was easy for MKO to win such a person of course, it was not out love that he won, we just thought that MKO was the lesser evil, we did not have any better choice, simple. If MKO was contesting against say Musa Yaradua, we wont even be talking about him winning the June 12 elections. |
WHY MUSLIMS ARE VIOLENT AND INTOLERANT OF OTHERS “O believers make war on the infidels (non-Muslims) who dwell around you, let them find harshness in you” - Quran 9:123 “When the sacred months are over, kill the unbelievers wherever you find them” – Quran 9:5 “Fight them until unbelief is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme” - Q 2:193 “Fight against those of the book (Christians and Jews) as believe neither in Allah nor in the last day…and do not embrace the true faith” - Q 9:29 “Fighting is obligatory for you (Muslims), even if you dislike it” - Q 2:216 “Do you think you would enter Paradise before Allah knows the men who fought hard and steadfast?” – Q 3:142 “Believers take neither Jews nor Christians for friends or helpers” - Q 5:51 “Let not the believers take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers.” - Q 3:28. “Our Prophet (Mohammed), ordered us to fight you (non-Muslims) till you worship Allah alone or pay us Jizyah (extortion) in submission…Whoever amongst us is killed as a martyr shall go to Paradise…and whoever survives shall become your master”– Sahih Bukhari 4:53:386 “Fight in the name of Allah and in the way ofAllah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war…” - Sahih Muslim 19:4294 These violent injunctions in Islamic scriptures (Quran and Hadith) clearly promote hostility and aggression towards non-Muslims, and largely explain Muslim proclivity to religious violence as evident from the incessant terrorist attacks – over 13,000 since 9/11 and counting. The violent injunctions can be traced to Islam's violent origins. Unlike the founders of other major religions who mostly relied on non-violent persuasion to win converts, Islam's founder “prophet” Mohammed used violence to forcefully impose his intolerant creed in Arabia: “I (Mohammed) have been commanded (by Allah) to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, and believe that I am the Messenger and in all (Islam) that I have brought. Whoever says this will save his property and life from me.” – Sahih Bukhari 9:84:5, Sahih Muslim1:31 This Hadith in which Mohammed clearly admits his motivation for violence was to forcefully enthrone Islam, is contrary to the Taqiyya (deception) propaganda Muslims would have we infidels believe – that Mohammed and early Muslims only fought in self defense. Another Hadith drives home the same point of unprovoked Muslim aggression: “Our Prophet (Mohammed), ordered us (Muslims) to fight you (non-Muslims) till you worship Allah alone or pay us Jizyah (extortion) in submission…Whoever amongst us is killed as a martyr shall go to Paradise…and whoever survives shall become your master” – Bukhari 4:53:386 The Quran particularly Surah Tawba providesfurther evidence that Muslims were the clearaggressors: “When the sacred months are over, kill the unbelievers wherever you find them” – Quran 9:5 “O believers make war on the infidels (non-Muslims) who dwell around you, let them find harshness in you” - Quran 9:123 “Fight against those of the book (Christians and Jews) that do not believe in Allah or in the last day…and do not embrace the true faith” - Quran 9:29 “Prophet (Mohammed), make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal ruthlessly with them” - Quran 66:9 No amount of Taqiyyaspin can misconstrue as self defense the above Quranic verses which clearly enjoin unprovoked warfare against non-Muslims. The violent injunctionsin Surah Al-Tawba (Quran Chapter 9) are particularly important because this was the last portion of the Quran dictated by Mohammed. Under the Islamic concept of abrogation (Nasikh), these violent “sword verses” (Ayat al-Sayf) in Surah 9 supersede any earlier seemingly peaceful verse. To facilitate unrestrained violence against non-Muslims, Mohammed begins the Surah by unilaterally annulling all treaties: “Freedom from obligation (is proclaimed) from Allah and His messenger toward the infidels with whom you have made treaties”– Quran 9:1 Mo's violent doctrine was at variance with the prevailing culture of religious tolerance among pre-Islamic Arabs, hence early Muslims were initially reluctant to fight untilMo' coerced and threatened them: “Believers, what is the matter with you, thatwhen you are asked to fight in Allah's cause you linger and cling to this life?...If you do not fight, Allah will punish you sternly...” - Quran 9:38 “Fighting is obligatory for you (Muslims), even if you dislike it” - Quran 2:216 Mo' further threatened that only Muslims who fought will make it to the Islamic heaven: “Do you think you (Muslims) would enter Paradise before Allah knows the men who fought hard and steadfast?” – Quran 3:142 Allah's Apostle (Mohammed) said, "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords” – Sahih Bukhari 4:52:73 The initial reluctance of early Muslims to fight is further evidence they weren't under physical attack. If they were, Mo' wouldn't have needed to coerce and threaten them todefend themselves. Or entice them to violence with promises of heavenly rewards (Quran 4.99, 3:157, 9:111). Prior to Mohammed's Islam; pagans, Christians, Jews, Magians, Sabeans and otherreligious groups lived harmoniously in Arabia, and there were no religious wars. The Sirat Rasul Allah (Islam's official biography of Mohammed) informs us there were even Christian images of Jesus and Mary in the pagan Kaaba, which Mo' later expropriated for his new religion. The pre-Islamic Arabs offered Mohammed the same tolerant religious accommodation if he would reciprocate and respect their ancestral religious traditions. Initially Mo' agreed, culminating in the “revelation” of the infamous satanic verses in which the Quran endorsed pagan Arab deities – Al-Lat, Uzza, and Manat. He later reneged on the agreement as the megalomanic prophet wannabe could not share the religious limelight with over 300 Arab deities and other pre-existing religious groups. Subsequently Mo' introduced religious violence to Arabia when in Medina he embarked on forced Islamization after 12 frustrating years of almost fruitless preaching in Mecca, during which he only gathered a handful of mostly disaffected lowlifes as followers. In Mecca, Mo' constituted himself into a societal nuisance by repeatedly insulting and denigrating pre-Islamic Arab traditions. The Meccan Arabs tolerated these insults while Mo's rich influential sugar mummy wife and uncle were alive, but later responded with an economic boycott of Mo' and his cult members. This pauperized themcompelling Mo' and his followers to migrateto Medina. Herein lies the so-called “expulsion” of early Muslims by supposedly intolerant pagan Arabs, which Muslim propagandists deliberately misrepresent as pagan Arabs forcibly evicting Muslims from Mecca. There was no forced ejection; on the contrary some of the pagan Meccans opposed the migration of their relatives who were Muslims. In spite of the alleged “oppression”, many of Mo's converts were reluctant to leave Mecca, and the “prophet” had to threaten Muslims who didn't want tomigrate with hellfire: “…Hell shall be their home, an evil fate; except the helpless men women and children who have no strength or means to migrate” – Quran 4:97-98 The cock & bull yarn about a spider spinningweb across the entrance of cave in which Mo' hid from pursuing Meccans, is obvious falsehood intended to glorify the “prophet” with an escape miracle, and demonize the Meccan pagans as violently intolerant thereby justifying Mohammed's subsequent violent aggression. Even today Muslims deploy similar bogus propaganda when they falsely claim Jews drove out Palestinians to establish Israel. Palestinians left voluntarily at the instigation of neighbouring Arabs so that the invading Arab armies would have a clearkilling field for exterminating Jews without hurting their fellow Arabs in Palestine. See: http://www.palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=1102 After leaving Mecca in frustration, Mo' and his followers relocated to Medina where he had no means of livelihood but attack and rob trade caravans. It was this banditry that provoked the first battle of Islam (Badr) when the pagan Meccans dispatched a military contingent to protect one of their trade caravans. Islamic scriptures and historical traditions document over 70 battles during Mohammed prophetic career. Most of these were Ghazawa (raids) on non-Muslim communities. Only about 2 or 3 of these, notably the battles of Uhud and Khandaq could be described as defensive. Even these limited attacks by pagan Arabs were in response to incessant Muslim raids, just as the much vilified Crusades were a response to Muslim aggression in the Christian holy land. Raids are of course offensive, not defensive military actions: The Messenger of Allah (Mohammed) raided the Banu Mustaliq (pagan Arab tribe) while they were unaware and their cattle were having a drink at the water. He killed those who fought and imprisoned others... - SahihMuslim 019:4292; Bukhari 3:46:717. The apostle of Allah sent a military expedition to Awtas on the raid of Hunain…They defeated them and took them captives - Sunan Abu Dawud 2:2150; Sahih Muslim 8:3432. The Messenger of Allah besieged the people of Taif, but did not achieve victory – Sahih Muslim 19:4393 Allah's apostle (Mohammed) reached Khaibar at night. It was his habit, that whenever he reached an enemy at night, he would not attack them till it was morning. When morning came, the Jews came out with their spades and basket (farm implements). When they saw the prophet, they were surprised and said, “O God! It's Mohammed and his army”. The prophet shouted, “Allahu Akbar! Khaibar is destroyed…” – Sahih Bukhari 5:59:510 Note the expression - It was his habit - in the last quoted Hadith (Bukhari 5:59:510) describing Mo's sneak cowardly attack on defenceless Khaibar Jews who were proceeding to farm in the morning. Mohammed and his murderous gang were in the habitof mounting surprise attacks on defenceless non-Muslims. The surprise attack on the Banu Mustaliq pagan Arabs was similarly unprovoked and cowardly (Sahih Muslim 19:4292; Bukhari 3:717). During such raids the defeated non-Muslim men were killed, with the women and children taken captive: “The people of Khaibar came out fleeing on the roads. The Prophet had their men killed, their children and woman taken as captives”- Sahih Bukhari 5:59:512 . Captured women were then raped: “Those (Muslims) who restrain their sexual desire except with their wives and female captives/ slaves are free from blame” – Quran 70:29-30 “Successful are believers…who restrain their sexual desire except with their wives and female captives / slaves, for these are lawful to them” – Quran 23:1-6. “Forbidden, to you (Muslim men) are married women, except your female captives / slaves” Quran 4:24 Several of Mohammed's wives and concubines (notably Rayhanna, Safiya & Juwairiya) were captive women whose husbands / male relatives were killed by Mo' and his marauding gang. The Quran endorsed this rape of female captives and slaves by Islam's philandering “prophet”: Prophet (Mohammed), we (Allah) have madelawful to you your wives, female captives / slaves, daughters of your paternal and maternal uncles, daughters of your paternal and maternal aunts, any believing woman who “offers” herself to you…Q 33:50 Other captives were sold into slavery: "Allah's apostle (Mohammed) sent Sad Zayd Al-Ansari with some captive women to Najd.He sold them for horses and weapons" - Sahih Muslim 19:4345 The wealth of the defeated non-Muslims was looted: “Enjoy the good and lawful booty you (Muslims) have taken in battle. Fear Allah, heis forgiving and merciful.” - Quran 8:69 If the loot was “lawful”, why do Muslims need forgiveness?“Allah made booty lawful for believers.” - Tabari VII:81 Like thieves elsewhere, the Muslim brigands sometimes quarreled over sharing of booty, prompting Mo's alter ego, Allah to proclaim: “Say, the loot belongs to Allah and his apostle (Mohammed). Therefore fear of Allahand end your disputes” – Quran 8:1 If the Muslim wars in the early formative stages of Islam were in self defense, why did the aggression continue after defeating the pagan Meccans and Mo' passed on? Under the leadership of the four “rightly guided Caliphs” who were Mo's close associates and clearly understood his hegemonic agenda, aggressive jihadist expansion continued. Muslim Arabs later invaded and occupied North Africa, SouthernEurope, Indian subcontinent and other partsof the Middle East including Palestine, thereby sowing the seed of the current intractable Arab-Israeli conflict which is their favorite excuse for terrorism. Not surprisingly, most of what we now know as the Muslim world was Islamized by violence, including here in Northern Nigeria. Today Islam is the only religion that enforces or attempts to enforce its laws by violence – public floggings, limb amputations, stoning to death etc. It prescribes death penalty for Muslims who leave Islam and for Muslims who don't join congregational prayer: The Prophet (Mohammed) said, 'If a Muslim changes his religion, kill him'– Sahih Bukhari4:52:260 The Prophet (Mohammed) said, "burn all those who do not leave their houses for prayer, burn them alive inside their homes." – Sahih Bukhari 1:11:626 Islam's numerous violent injunctions brutalize Muslim mentality such that Muslims are quite comfortable with forms of violence that we infidels find revolting. Hence terrorism, honor killing, stoning to death, forced conversion, killing or threatening of ex-Muslims who leave Islam…all thrive in Dar ul Islam (Islamic world). Not to forget the incessant religious violence here in Nigeria's Islamic north. From the foregoing historical and scriptural evaluation of Islamic violence, it is obvious that Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists are indeed true Muslims. The so-called moderate Muslims are those who are either not aware of the vicious dark side of their bloodthirsty hate cult; or whose innate good conscience and humanity has not been overwhelmed by the Islamic imperative to murderous violence. Other “moderate” Muslims are silent Islamist sympathizers who lack the courage or means to indulge in jihadist terror. Many of our compatriots up here in Nigeria's Islamic North fall into this category as evident from the popularity of Bin Laden car stickers, posters and almanacs, as well as the recent Pew study revealing most Nigerian Muslims (54%) support Osama bin Laden. The figure would be much higher among northern Muslims. It will be recalled that some northern Muslims even jubilated publicly after 9/11. So we can expect more Umar Farouk AbdulMuattallabs!! |
Death was kind to MKO Abiola walahi. He has got to be the most overhypped Politician of all time. I don't know how authentic the story of him sinking a shipload of bibles but I wont put it beyond the man. It is on record that the man stormed out when his attempt to smuggle sharia laws into the Nigerian constitution of 1978 was strongly resisted, he did not append his signature because of it. The man was seriously fanatical no doubt. |
Enough of the welfarist policies Nwanne biko...lets move to other sustainable developmental policies. |
Tithing is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated in today's chriatianity. Yestarday, I caused a row during bible study when I told them the facts about this tithing fraud. Any pastor or Priest that can not trace his lineage to the Levi tribe is a charlatan. If you claim to that tithing was not abolished under the new law, then we could well make claims for the rest of the mosaic laws. Those fronting abraham should tell me if the man tithed his own property or why it was ever recorded again that he tithed his property? Jacob his son who was the first person to have tithed on his property gave God conditions that must be met before he, Jacob will tithe. Unlike today's bible wielding charlatans that request you tithe even pocket money, money given to you as gift, you are manipulated to cause God to bless you through tithe even when one does not have any viable means of survival. The first time tithing became a commandment was during moses, and it was actually meant to cater for the childrien of the Levi tribe and levite priest who were set aside for God's work and were not given Land portion when Joshua led the Isrealites to Canaan. If today's christianity is NT based then they have no business practising Jewish traditions that were only meant for Jews. Seriously, Christianity is Fraud. Most of the claims of the Author especially Paul's leave so much to ask they just do not mix well when one goes into biblical history. |
Rhymz, first of all, I am sorry for your loss. I pray God gives you the fortitude to bear it. Please do me a huge favor. . .I know you owe me nothing but I am begging you for one. Please go back, reread my posts on this issue and tell me where exactly I stated the Dana air should not be punished or sanctioned or suspended? Please show me where I stated that the Indians being made a scapegoat. Thank you. Moving on. . . My point, which quiet frankly I am surprised you missed is this - Instead of chanting "Hang the Indians, Hang the Indians" let us chant "Hang them all, Hang them all" i.e. Every business, Every Politician, Every Airline, Service Provider, every single person who treats us like we are less than human. You can not treat your child like a dog in front of outsiders and then get mad when those outsiders take their cue from you. Lemme ask you this, If your brother threw the doors to your house wide open and invited thieves (and it is obvious they are thieves because they are wearing shirts with a large I AM A THIEF printed on it)and these thieves clean you out, who do you blame? The thieves who made no effort to hide their identity or your brother? If you still don't see my point, then I guess we are just going to agree to disagree. I'm not gonna go back and forth with you. . .considering what an emotional time it is for you right now.
Hey Dear, I am sorry if I sounded rather hash or misunderstood what you were trying to say. Honestly I was angry. I lost a family friend and a neigbour lost her mum brother in that crash. She has been a wreck ever since, I could not even say anything to console her when I called her as she was just crying. That informed the angry tone in my response, am sorry again. Besides, I have worked several times with these Asians, especially the indians and Lebanese, it is always thesame excuse. They are always deliberately cutting corners to maximise profits at the expense of people's safty. |
teskyg: I have worked with Indians in my previous organisation and some of them are really nice people. The coy I worked with paid me a six digit salary, housing nd car allowance,Health Insurance and Pension. We were treated well and have seen some of them loaning out money to some of my colleagues in need and didn't asked for repayment. They even invite us to their homes for parties and any event they organise and are always proud to show us to their people. You have a point there all though, I feel the six digit part is an exaggeration unless of course you are conniving with them to subdue the Nigerians that work for them cos that is usually the case with many highly paid Nigerians in indiam companies. I have a very good knowledge of their management style cos I have worked with a lot of them and I see in all of them thesame damning streaks. First, they hate Unions. In their companies where they have unions, knowing how the average Nigerian is corrupt, you find out that the union leadership is heavily compromised and do the biding of the managements even when it hurts the welfare of the staff. In another case scenario, they outrightly ban any union movement in their company and pay off labour inspectors that come to do routine check on them. Staff welfare and the salary structure of Nigerians working for them means nothing to them. Remuneration is very poor and unfair when compared to that of indian coleagues doing thesame job, most of them get paid double the salaries of their coleagues. Workers on thesame same level collect differing salaries, there is usually no laid down structure of remuneration in their companies. You come in and are paid based on your negotiation skills. Safety to them is usually secondary, for instance, in the plastic packaging company I used to work for, they would rather we use hand controlled chain-cranes and allow us to manuever very heavy molds during molde installations and removals(which is risky and requires human strength) instead of getting a standard sized electronics controlled cranes(which are way efficient, do not need one's strength and are way safer). In cases where they want to meet up with production demands, they deactivate the safety locks of the machines, exposing operators to very serious hazards. I personally left this company early this year when one these machines smashed the head of a newly employed operator who was not given any orientation about the machine. The operator was killed because the managemnt deactivated the safety lock of the machine just for the reason of uninterruption in production. These are very avoidable accidents but for the greed of profit making that drives the motives of the owners. That was thesame attitude applied in the Dana mishap. If you have never worked for them, you wont see all these things from my angle. Many of them have got no souls. Nigerians love them regardless. No need for anyone to exaggerate the issue to an xenophobic stage, they are not hated in Nigeria one bit inspite of their BS, imagine those workers calling the "Masters??". But we have to speak out and make them realize that we do not like the way they do business. That is not xenophobia or racism. We can't say because we don't want to be seen as xenophic or racist, we must not discuss these issues especially labour laws, that is slave mentality. Till today, the issue of black empowerment and active participation are still discussed in RSA, they still have laws that allow at least 10% black ownership of any big companies. Indian business men need to know that they are not the only ones operating in our corrupt climes, there are also european and american companies in Nigeria who could as well choose to exploit the corruption excuse and do like them as well. The asian business model is just too exploitative and it is catching too fast on others. |
The people who are ready to hang the Indians are the same who watch in silence as helpless Nigerians are pushed around and humiliated everyday by other Nigerians. The building that collapsed and killed dozens of people. . .was it Indians who built it? The innocent lives lost at the hands of trigger happy policemen. . .twas the Indians who gave them guns ko? Boko Harem killing people every other day like they are flies. . .shei Indians gave them the mandate right? Yeah, those horrible Indians. . . They have taken over Nigeria. Lord have mercy on us all.
Madam what exactly is the import of your arguments? Your sick sarcasm is not needed now abeggg!!! Are you trying to say there is no justifications to suspend Dana air whom investigations have shown to have deliberately disregard safety warnings and still flew a plane that had shown signs of mechanical faults not just once? I understand that the Nigerian government is shitty and all that.... but to imply that Dana is innocently being made a scapegoat and do not deserve any reprimand shows that you, madam are a part of the problem. If people don't complain how do you get those eeediots in authority to at least make a move? Or you think the authorities wont find it more convenient if they had their way to just ignore the whole brouhaha caused by this very avoidable mishap and just tell the indians to lay low for now with a promise to allow them bounce back later? Are you saying when sosoliso, ADC and bellview( whose cases were not even that of the managements deliberately ignoring warning signs) crash happened the government did not sanction them in parts where they were found guilty.. Like seriously, have you worked for any company owned by Indians, Lebanese or the Chinese I have and I can tell you without mincing words that these people have always had a free hand doing what they like without anyone caring if it was right and wrong and that was thesame attitude we saw in the Dana management handling of thef issue.Yes, Nigeria has leadership problems, corruption is damn rife but please don't comment like Nigerians are not trying in their own ways too to make the government sit up, if you are alluding to the type of revolutions seen in North Africa as a sign of our seriousness then I say, Madam, shebi you sef are a Nigerian even if you live abroad, you can come down and start it. Your life is not precious to you than that of other Nigerians to them. This is not the time for sick sarcasm or armchair criticism, the question is; what have you as a Nigerian done to reduce the corruption in your own little way besides making sick jokes and criticizing the government even when they seem to have taken the right step. Did you lose anyone in the crash? Cos I did and I want those indian bastards and whoever connived with them brought to book. |
Lmao at people trying to twist the basic facts we know that greedy and stingy indians own DANA air. Push this thread to the recycle bin. FOH with that bs
There is nothing anyone can say about this fact that I know of, I have worked as a maintenance engineer for the injection molding machings at Dana Plast, the company is fully owned by the Indians. Most of the top members of the company are indians and other Asian citizens, same with their automobile subsidiary KIA motors. My cousin currently works for KIA motors and he tells me it is thesame thing, the place is crawling with indians at the helm of affairs. All that 4cking denials to save face wont work. Indians, Chinese and Lebanese mamnagements are crappy and the worse people to work with; they care little about staff welfare, safefty is not important to them if it swells cost. Ironically, they pay their brothers in thesame companies who do far less work than Nigerians that do most of the work. Unfortunately, they dominate our manufacturing industries. Nobody is saying they should run them out of business but in places where they have been found to raise profit above the safety of human lives, they should be cut to size and made to face the music, simple. Also, government needs to look into the managements of these asian companies, while it can be understood that they want to cut cost, it should not be an excuse to exploit Nigerians. Dana is an Indian company, and there is nothing racist about declaring so, anyone that wants to make an issue out of that is as usual, a deluded soul that likes to argue for the fun of it. |
Sweetlemon: Funny enough, even though chanchanchi seems like the most dangerous airline, they are yet to record any crashes or even emergencies, or have they? Na so life be.u dey wait until dem record their own crash ni? Need I remind you that DANA had no records until sunday.... |
Rest in Peace Prof Onwuliri. He was not a bad administrator during his reign as FUTO's VC, though he played too much politics in areas that needed work and improvement, like the roads from FUTO back gate was just appalling, the junior staff quarters his administration built that up till now none of the teaching staff has occupied them only shows heavy politicking in areas that needed honest improvement. He did not do much to improve the infrastructural demands of the school. Most of the construction work he started especially the one close to workshop 2 and the hostel close to the school back gate lost the steam with which they started. Anyway, RIP! |
flckr: She's convocating today but d sch's finally changed its rules.Dy 'l jst cme bac in 1mth 2 rewrite d exam wivout payn 4 summer.exactly the point I was making. Now they see the folly in their action, trying to deprive the kid of her hard earned convocation on the basis of some frivolous certification program that is not even part of her academic scope. And the dumb a$ses here keep telling her to go back and re-write it without complaints like na una go pay the 150k. How can anyone take schools with such tyrannical posture seriously. This is a lesson to all these docile Nigerian students and parents that do not know when to fight for their rights. Congrats dear....it paid off. |
5 pages of trasg talking and chest beating. Na wa o, I hope you guyz don't hypertension from all these crap. And this foo that calls himself bittyend needs to take a break from NL and get some real life job. How can somebody lay siege on the net 24hrs looking for ppl to trash talk with. Of course only looser, ur super-man(idiot) only in front of a computer screen. I doubt you have a galfriend. Calm da phock down and get a real job jare!!! What a hot Mess! |
Asari Dokubo thinks too much of himself sha. How many people are actually Ijaws? He thinks bombing oil installation and kidnapping foreigners in the creeks is thesame thing as actually engaging in a War. . Lol, Dokubo seriously has some mental issues if he thinks ijaws are a force to reckon than the other larger groups with more viable means. |
Cynacism and hypocrisy at its peak. You claim that the president should be commended yet you support the students' stance. How is using UniLag to immortalize Abiola a localized move? Is UniLag not a Federal school? Did Abiola not live in Lagos and invested mostly in Lagos? What exactly do they find offensive about MAULag? If Abiola is so much of a hero that deserves to be immortalized like they made everyone believe then why should the federal parastatal the FG decided to use cause so much hullabaloo? They should be honest with their intentions and what they realy think about the man. Talking about listing him as one of Nigeria's president like that is even remotely possible. They conveniently forget that the man's mandate expired while he was in dention, legally and politically it would have been one hell of a task claiming it back. It will be easy honouring him this way than going that way that tinubu cynically suggested. They should be honest jare! |
yd849ja: Do you even know the meaning of the emboldened? Not in a million years. Its quite obvious you lifted it off google cause you forgot to edit the 's.hahahahha...this kid is a lamebrain WALAHI!!! See mumu wey wan correct me..... You are cracking me up here with your stupefying shallowness. Make I school you small, you ignorant MOFO, tourette syndrom can also be simply written as tourette's, go figure, FOOL!!! You don't know and do not know that you do not know, what a malady of the mind. Stop masquerading here like you know jack about anything, you are not even average, from your shallow arguments and moronic childish temper tantrums it shows. |
yd849ja: Mr Jurassic Park, all your so called historic crap we've heard before but my friend history as written and consumed by idiotic and moronic bubble heads like you, which in its full glorification and purest form bothers along the lines of assumptions, hear says and lunacy makes no iota of meaning to me. Because such acclaimed street talks and beer parlour conversations don't and can't stand the test of time. They are always laced with all kinds of loose and wild imaginations of uncouth dimwits like yourself and in their best form borne out of hate for success and achievement of an individual. To be honest with you I am hardly surprised by your folly to believe such.WOW!!! I have read more coherent stuff from a schizophrenic with Tourett's. Nywayssss, try harder, who knows.... You might mistakenly blurt out something that makes sense....just sayin...lmao |
Hmmmm |
yd849ja: Mr. Jurassic Park. People like you I believe live your life by stories authenticated by hear-says. Thou student of history I can see you are vastly well read in the studies of conspiracy and I won't even go into that with you.Apparently you ve got brains the size of a peanut. You are dumber than I had thought. Obviously, you know nothing about the history of this country and I wont waste my time schooling a dingbat like you, you are better off in your ignorance. Now go to hell and fry, you intellectual midget of no substance |
dorox: Were you there when the child got missing and followed the case until the child was found or you just accepted the story as fact. Be wary of these men of god because the tell a lot of made up stories.lol the guy is just as stooopid. He did not say anything about the missing child for the duration of the 2months only to take the glory after he was found....lol....see story that touches the Nyansh... |
yd849ja: When I read comments on here I realise how fast sinking this ship called Nigeria is heading. You lots are all sick and deluded and now its quite obvious NIGERIA truly has no future because the tie that binds us is definitely so fragile and delicate that its fast loosing its strength. You all talk as if great men of history were all saints and has no blemish. You all come here and cast aspersions on MKO. He was a business man turn politician. Is there anything bad about that? Can anyone tell me what Martin Luther King was before 'I had a dream' and his activism, who was Rosa Park before she sat on the bus, who was Mandela before his activism and prison sentence. Abiola can be what ever you want him to be before June 12 but I can tell you his election and eventual death symbolizes our collective freedom from military rule and its no mistake that his name is celebrated by some and keeps haunting others over 14years after. Some of you wish it could be wished away but my friend I tell you Abiola would forever remain a corner piece whenever the history of this country is been called upon or mentioned. A singular act turns a man to a hero not a million acts of wasteful life existence. They are made by that ICONIC singular act in their entire existence before their death. And Abiola died for our right as Nigerians to choose who to rule us, not just for his right to be the President, one cannot be divorce from the other. Lets learn to fight for our right at least by then we can say we have made a stand for our unborn generation. We can not afford to allow them to be enslaved by these greedy and selfish politician.Kid how old are you? Your mentality is phucked up, your sense of decency and fairness has been assaulted by the shenanigans in our polity to the point that a mere hypocritical show of philantropy and kindness makes you lack common sense of history. Abiola was nothing compared to those fine gentle men and woman you are trying to compare him with. They had no corrupt antecedents to begin with, if they did, they would not have the opportunity to lead anyone or any cause. Marthin Luther King Jnr was a Methodist Pastor, Mandela was a fine Lawyer and activist, Rosa Park was just an ordinary black American citizen who was tired of being treated as a 2nd class citizen and decided to go against the establishment. Her singular action of refusing to stand up from one of the seats meant for only whites rekindled a political inferno of justice and fairness in the hearts of black Americans who had heard of her arrest as a result. These people fought with all sense of purpose and sincerity, they were honest to see change, they were honest in their pursuit to see the people they lead; live better lives, have better opportunities, treated with fairness not judged by their skin colour or the limitations of their social status. These are men and women of honour driven by a honest purpose, they could have sold out like Abiola did and sought for their own satisfaction and aggrandizements. Abiola can never stand on thesame footing with these people no matter the propaganda and spin stories brought to bear. A lot of us lost families and loved ones to the inferno his complicated political maneuvering brought upon this country. Some of the coups he funded and supported prolly never would have succeeded if he had not played an active role in them. Most of his so-called achievements were gotten through bribery, becoming friends and contractors for the khaki boys, inflating contract prices and bringing in inferior material and goods. Everything he got was through corrupt enrichment of both himself and the people he called friends. Have we forgotten the ITT scandal? ITT was a telecommunication company that got the contract to install telephone booths in Nigeria in preparation for the FESTAC 77. What ITT supplied were refurbished telephone booths, mere decorations that never worked. This was the company Abiola represented. Late General Murtala Mohammed (who was one of Abiola's close friends) was the Federal Commissioner for Communications, then before he took over from Yakubu Gowon in 1976. He got the Federal government through his close pal to pay for the contract. In 1978 he was at the Constituent Assembly where he walked out because the likes of Awolowo and others refused to include Sharia in the Nigerian constitution at the Federal level. It is on record that he did not sign the constitution of 1979 because of this. He became a strong member of National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and did everything in Ogun State to upstage Awolowo's Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). It is on record that in 1983 when it was time for another election, Abiola attempted to run and Alhaji Umaru Dikko told him that the Nigerian Presidency was not "for sale;" Alhaji Shehu Shagari got nominated again and MKO Abiola left politics. The man prolly made the statement knowing very well his infamous method of using money to persuade and get what he wants. He became more visible during the Ibrahim Babangida's 8 years of misrule. He was practically involved and became Babangida's spokesperson. He was an astute defender of Babangida's policies until after the annulment of June 12, 1993 elections. To show their closeness,MKO Abiola traded his editor to Babangida as Chief Press Secretary. It is also no more news that he supported the coup against Buhari/ Idiagbon. Bayo Onanuga left African Concord as Editor because he could not go and apologize to Babangida over a story published that led to the closure of the Magazine. Abiola had spoken to Onanuga to apologize and Onanuga preferred opting out to begging IBB. Truth be said, "MKO was no Hero!!!" May be a hero to the people he had helped directly but as a national hero in the mould of Marthin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Park, Ghandi even the Militant Malcom X, I say a big Mbanu!! Oti o!! banyar daba!! No way!! South westerners need to be sincere on the reason why they are against the Name Abiola taking the place of UniLag; it is very obvious that beyond all that funny argument of an aesthetic brand name and cosmetic appearance lies the real question of "was Mashood kashimawo Abiola truly a hero or an overhyped Politician?" It is obvious they are asking themselves subconciously "is he worth it?" Is he the kind of hero whose name is befitting of a school and brand name like University of Lagos? The whole show of ambivalence only strengthens people's argument of MKO being no Hero. They have suggested other less befitting parastatals, symbols and buildings that could have been used because in their minds they know MKO was realy nothing different from the present politicians but for the fear of being exposed as hypocrits who work against one another, they have decided to indulge in diversionary arguments of no substance. Even the Yoruba "intellectuals" here will rather shy away from the main issue and engage in a cat and mouse tribal fight of chest beating than openly argue the obvious. Kobojunkie has been the only Yoruba person here to honestly state the obvious and gave very salient arguments on the issue. You lot should stop dancing around the main issue and give better reasons. Personally, I am against the name change too, Abiola is not deserving of such honour that is the truth that many of his tribes men do not want to openly admit but agree with. |
