I really pity a lot of folks on here; stores will import tens of millions of dollars and even Walmart (in hundreds of millions) will import mainly from China and yet yall happy with t meanwhile Nigeria isn't offsetting her deficit some way. What a shame hearing the responses on here; Nigeria will be ready for all these stores the moment that we can start producing to offset their import deficits.
manny you make it sound like shoprite is going to be the only store in the mall. Com'on man stop talking like this is not good. Even walmart sell imported goods from china as well as long as they meet the required standards. Unless you ve not been to any of the shoprite stores, they sell groceries they sell groceries that are made in nigeria more than foreign made groceries. Me i don't know what you are on about o cos for all i know shoprite deals basically on food and groceries, all these big talk about trade deficit is just uneccessary. Sometimes too much of what we know can be a hinderance to simple result oriented ideas. Afterall, there are millions of standard supermarkets scattered across the SE/SS mostly owned by igbos and other Nigerians, they too sell both local and imported items, i don't see how that kills economic development rather they are exactly what is needed now not big talk of economics that will not yield any meaniful results besides making you feel mentally superior or sth.
Romance › Re: Shoprite Wahala With Enugu Girls by rhymz(m): 8:04am On Sep 18, 2011
Unless many of the comments here are borne out of ignorance, a majority of the items sold in shoprite is wholly made in Nigeria and not all imported as some of us will like us to believe. They are just like any other standard grocery stores, they sell both local and foreign groceries in a better and organized manner, that's just the difference.
Besides, shoprite and game are just anchor tenants, they are not going to be the only stores in the mall. It is estimated that about a thousand people will be directly employed and another 2500 people will be indirectly employed, not to talk of revenue genereted through tax to the state and influx of people from other parts of the southeast and southsouth to enugu as a result. A standard cinema is long overdue in the southeast and citing it in enugu in one of the lettable spaces is very befitting espcially when one considers Enugu as a favourite filming location by Nollywood film makers, it only makes more sense.
By the way, the property developer of these projects is a Nigerian in partnership with a bigger property developer group from southafrica, so the project is not entirely southafrican per se.
Abeg we need more of these kind of projects whether it is initiated by Nigerians or not, lets have more competition, more varieties, taste and places of attraction to want to go to besides lagos abuja or ph.
One thing Igbo people have going for them is their spending power, if not for lack of infrastructure, the SE/SS should be more attractive for this type of projects. Anyway, we are reaching there. Enugu good way to go!!

I have always said it, that if businesses like the shoprite food supermarket, silverbird galleria or any other standard cinema should open shop in any of the southeast states they will make a killing like they were in lagos. If anyone doubts me just walk into Destiny or Maris supermarkets in owerri and observe the volume of sale traffic and so on in the two opp supermarkets.
Plus I like the fact that it is the biggest of its kind in the whole of Naija, just when I thought I had seen it all in Lagos. That's some nice feat there, Enugu.

Early this morning I recieved a text message from an Aunty, informing me not to pick any 5-digit number that calls my phone, lest I will fall down and die. According to the text, 7 people had already died.
However, there is no first hand evidence of where this has actually happened apart from handed down rumours and 2nd hand gist from unknown sources. So far this text msg has spread like wild fire as the person that sent me the txt msg lives in Onitsha.
Anyway, My theory about it when I gave serious thought about it was that, whoever created the text messege was playing on people's fear and making cool cash out of it. It reminds me of the fictitious MTN promo that tells you to send a particular text message to seven other people and win a million naira. The more people recieve the text message the more jittery they get and then send to others in return whilw the creator laughs himself off to the bank.
This is a big money spinner if you ask me, Damn!! Why did I not think of this first.
Here is the text msg i recieved abt this killer number:

Do you believe i can call a person, see him in a mirror, stab him through the mirror and he dies in reality?
Anything can happen in naija!
I am tempted to call you a Bona Fide DUÑCE!! Am like does this world still have people like you? Huh?
Wonder why none of this Telecoms company has made any official public statement to douse people's fear? They wont coz they are the mastermind of the whole thang or better still it is good business as gullible people like keep sending the text to others and calling loved ones to caution them, at thesame time, they too repeat thesame cycle, the result is a multiplier effect that puts more money in their coffers.
I have continued to ask thesame question over and over again, where are the real people who have witnessed people recieve this killer call and drop dead on the spot. I mean, we need evidence pointing directly to this number as the cause of these deaths not all these rubbish "dem say, dem say" gist. How come no news paper has it as their headline or journalists visit any of these places where it is claimed people dropped dead after recieving a call. This is all bullcrap designed to hoodwink people and increase network traffic for telcoms or whoever came up with this idea. Damn!! Why did I not think of this first. Imagine how these guys will be laughing to the banks as people keep calling and texting the rubbish to others even when there is no hard evidences or real life witnesses to corroborate the claim.
How is it possible that one will just recieve a call from somebody that does not know you or even how you look like and then just drop dead. If people can be killed at random like that then one does not even need to use phone technology as you could just call any name and somebody will appear at random for the slaughter.
Even juju no dey work randomly like that sef, you can't just kill somebody like that without any pre-knowledge of the person's existence besides the fact that they recieved a call from your jazzed up code number. Why do you think ritualists are usually particular about the who can be used for the rituals if the rituals must retain its potency? Com'on guyz this aint no rocket science, this is pure psychology, play on a society's paranio and fear and you can control them like a tamed lion without them even realizing it. Enuff said jare!! Make the number call me, I wan die since na another episode of SCREAM na in we dey re-live for Naija.BULLSHIT!!

I am a 100 level Engineering student. Please I need some tips on how to concentrate while reading and how to  retain things when  I read. I tend to lose concentration after reding for like 1 or 2 hours.
Pleas e any useful tip/advice will be appreciated.
Thanks
go and smoke marijuana. .hahaha. Ok that was a joke.
First thing to learn is when your body metabolism is best suited for reading. I find out that I easily get tired at mid-day when I read but do extremely well in the evening and middle od the night.
Also, if you want retention, never read a complicated subject without a well outlined jotter, jotting concepts, definitions, formulars and drawings. No your limits, dont say because your room mate reads for 3hrs straight up you will do thesame. Always have intervals when you read back what you have jotted in your own words and understanding. When reading learn to understand the concepts or idea behind what you are reading, you can do this by reading and understanding first-depending on how the writer sdtructures his sentences, phrases and clauses- sentences, clauses and phrases used to explain what is being read.
Finally, rest well before you read, it helps your muscles to relax and make you concentrate, eat food that will not make you feel tired or sleepy. Never read under stress or in a crowded place unless you want to just show off. Goodluck my friend.jotted in your own words and understanding. In fact, a Nigerian newspaper has explained that the actual initial loan was $17 billion. Nigeria has not only paid $35
billion for this loan but paradoxically still owed about $35 billion until the Paris Club debts relief came.

Debt service payment for Nigeria's debts started on a soft, tolerable level in 1958 until it became a hard bargain years later.
To start with Prof. Mike Obadan explained that the average debt service in the late fifties was N3.2m annually which
worked out at 0.2% of the GDP. In other words debt serving was not a big cut on the nation's purse initially. However, later,
debt serving became much of burden for Nigeria to bear. Matters came to a head in 2003 when one of Nigeria's creditors
the Paris Club demanded on all-time high $3 billion annually for debt service payment. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala considered
the payment economically unsustainable. She therefore negotiated with the club and got to accept $1.7 billion debt
service payment annually. This left an unpaid debt service of $1.3 billion, which the club added to the principal alongside
other interests. This is one reason the nation's total debt stock kept on rising
so what exactly are you trying to say here?? Infact, what you have stated above only helped to buttress my argument. I think you have mis-understood the whole meaning of debt servicing from the way you are trying to use the fact that the minister negotiated that we paid 1.7billion of the 3billion dollars requested by the creditors. Servicing our debts meant payment of both interests charged and the actual principal collected, if we decide to pay a lesser amount to for servicing, we run the risk of prolonged time finish payment and increase in interest rate.
May be you should do a little research on how these monies are deducted or factors that can cause interests to rise besides the penalties imposed for default which unfortunately Nigeria defaulted. We have to look at the following factors and reasons that led to the ballooning of our debt, they are the facts that we need to face in understanding the issues:
· More loans were obtained from both bilateral and multilateral institutions. · More loans were sourced from the international capital market at "commercial rates". · The accumulation of "trade arrears" (somebody defaulted on payment & the punishment was the accumulated trade arears we had to pay, am sure we agreed on that terms before taking the loans) · Fines/Penalties on the debts arising from over-due scheduled payments (And you blame your creditors? Did Nigeria agree to those terms or not before securing the loans?) · The capitalization of unpaid interests ( thesame issue of default payment) · Depreciation of the US dollars against other major international currencies in which the loans were taken

he is not joking my dear. Can you state clearly when Nigeria paid the monies they owed to the Paris club without resorting to that redundant argument of "Nigeria paid it interest 100 times over crap". Am sure you understand that before the money was borrowed there were terms agreed upon on interests rate, penalties for default in payment and duration of the loan.
What business of the Paris club is it that we paid the actual loan borrowed in interests and penalties if we defaulted in payment after agreeing to the terms in which the loans were secured.
Ngozi did a perfect job in ensuring we left the paris club and the london club. Do you know how much of our revenue that was going into servicing the debt before Okonjo convinced both our government and the the creditor clubs to a deal that saw us leave the clubs? mostly unsubstantiated jist. we may argue that there is no smoke without a fire, we should not take these revelations as though they came from God. let it be the basis for further investigation by reporters and additional materials to validate the story not this cut and paste thing happening. also it goes to show how low we take ourselves by running to the us ambassador to blab about sensitive government information even when they are unsubstantiated. gosh the Americans must be amused
Thank God we still have Nigerians with good heads on their shoulders. wikilLEAKS KO GOOGlEAKS NI.
Seriously, these Ambassadors think they are smart getting this kind of beer parlour information from Nigerians sucking up to them for favour.
Only a Fool will waste his or her time arguing with that rabble-rouser that calls herself Kobojunkie. It is well established fact that her arguments are without substance just stems from a need to practise her argumentative skills. Prolly studying law or sth or perhaps a lawyer wanna-be that likes to leave her lawyer fantasies on NL except that she always argues aimlessly and end up confusing herself. Besides, she likes to believe the worst about people, prolly a victim of a misplaced trust in a Nigerian friend hence her paranoia.
Eko-ile is a Tinubu Hack. The only person that is a saint Politician is Tinubu, any other person is a rogue even if in reality, Ngozi's reputation will pale Tinubu's repution when compared, he still will gladly believe the worst about the woman and doubt the obvious about Tinubu. Na dis kind person na im people wan take seriously? Scheeeew!! God. let it be the basis for further investigation by reporters and additional materials to validate the story not this cut and paste thing happening. also it goes to show how low we take ourselves by running to the us ambassador to blab about sensitive government information even when they are unsubstantiated. gosh the Americans must be amused

Serioisly, a lot of the comments here are dumb. Does it mean we as human beings can't be objective when it comes to people we do not like?
What I have seen so far from the so-called wikiLeaks are are assumptions, hear-say,word in the streets and nothing new. I even find it funny that some people arrogate to the US some kind of super-spy intelligence and all they could come up with are these childish briefs and informal letters they call reports.
The wikileaks so far are mere gossips, somebody's perception of the political system at the time it was written, the information given are not even detailed. It is even more annoying that the writer(the American Ambassador, I presumr) will not make mention of his source to even his own government but will rather engage in baseless general corruption accusation. Who is jon-jon? What exactly is the nature of the alleged contract? Was the so-called Jon-Jon qualified to handle the conyract? What exactly is the nature of Okonjo's relationship with the said jon-jon? How is okonjo complicit in the contract? Or does it mean Mr Ambassador's source did not give him details of his accusations.
Look mehn, anyone can get access to the US ambassador and say $hit to him about different people in government, it does not neccessarily mean it is true.
There is nothing in this wikileak report that is new to Nigerians except that the whole thing is somebody's views of what is going on in Nigeria's polity. Those are not facts and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
deadie:
It is quite dumb for anyone to attack Sahara reporters based on the Wikileaks report they published. How does it bring their credibility to question? Question the credibility of Wikileaks, not Saharareporters. Will you question the credibility of Vanguard, Guardian, Tribune, The Sun, etc if they published the same story?
that is besides the point.
The question is what is the basis of this accusation. Mr Campbell's source told him that Okonjo cornered a consulting contract of 50million Dollas without any seroius facts to back it up. No real names, name of consultant company, what type of consult work did he do for the ministry, what actually is the nature of the their relationship. The Minister has denied having any brother whose name is jonjon and denied being linked to any contract.
I am appalled that people will even take seriously these beer parlour accusations seriously even in the absence of facts.
Opinions are free my brother but facts are very sacred and neccessary to take this kind of stories serious. It is like the one released between Sanusi and Mis Sandas where Sanusi was giving her his opinion on different issues and personalities in government, it does not mean those are facts. Abeg enough of this rubbish conversational wikileak, it is becoming childish and boring.

Like seriously, was the Ambassador licking Sanusi's nuts and in his ecstacy he started reeling out like a playing tape.
This man has got to be the most talkative CBN governor ever.
Most of the gibberish he spewed were just speculative "if's" and "buts" no fact. If we decide to fast track from when he made this laughable studio album, produced and directed by Miss Sanda's, you will agree with me that he has not made any significant progress. It has been from one controversial reform to another with nothing positve to show for it.
He prolly was having credibilty problems when Sanda's grabbed his nuts. What a stooopid CBNG with no restraint each time he opens his mouth.
What a hypocit!!!

Lets bare it in mind that you may even bring up your child in Ibadan, Ilorin etc and they may still not develop the accent because it largely depend on the area of the town where they are brought up and the school they attend as well as how the parents communicate with them. This is evident from the fact that many kids brought up in Lagos nowadays can't even speak Yoruba! At least I have met few of these Lagos kids that cannot communicate in Yoruba at all!
Well, I am yet to meet a Yoruba kid that can't speak Yoruba or even understand it, unlike some Igbo kids brought up in places like Lagos, Abuja, Jos and so on.

Teslim – It is indeed true that you have the right to express your opinion in a forum such as these; it is equally true that your particular view on this occasion is slightly superficial and shallow.  One should of course go to great length in choosing where to raise children (given the choice), I however don’t think an accent nor intonation is one those important factors.  I am an employer, and in my selection criterion, I will certainly be prevalence in considering a candidate that speaks with good constructs, have clarity of thoughts and expressions and displays intelligence and depth of knowledge over one that simply has good phonetics.  I think the world has seriously moved on from being this aesthetic.
Funny in your comparison you had to tilt the table in favour of the employee with heavy laden accent and blessed him with all the right features only to leave the "phorne" guy with the only ability to blow big grammar and nothing more. You make it sound like there are no "phorne"guys that can articulate their thoughts and show creativity. How about comparing both of them on thesame scale- same abilities and intelligence except that one speaks with heavy local accent and the other with a rich exotic accent so cool like ice down an icycle, huhhuh Who will ya choose? Your guess is as good as mine, yeah right. . Lol
