100% the case. Please do your research. If military is overthrowing civillian power, it is a banana republic and probably that country has 10 MBTs, 100 technicals and 5 Mig21 jets. When a military is fully resourced with professionals and fully equipped, they rarely show interest in politics.

And yes it is true, before the 3rd Republic and immediately after Abacha and the advent of the 4th Republic, ignorant people with intellectual pretensions would go on national TV and talk about comprehensive demobilization of the military. The prominent one I remember now is Falana but even the technocratic, ex World Bank set were also mouthing the nonsense. Demobilization of the Army to reduce numbers was also seen as the only way to raise finance for equipment.
Now with insurgency and terrorism, all that nonsense is dead. A rider to all these is that you should never allow intellectuals in government. They are too irresponsible and cannot see reality.

Let MI35Ms or UCAVs ride shotgun for military convoys. The flights should then morph into normal daily ISR flights.

Progressively create a traffic light type of classification of safe corridors based on info from patrols, spotters, ISR flights and analytical risk assessments.
Only red and amber areas should take maximum attention. That way you don't dissipate resources patrolling safe zones at the detriment of hazardous zones that insurgents are just moving to.

There should also be dedicated quick response aircraft to hunt and kill members of ISWAP ambush parties immediately after an event.
