Toju200: the perhaps the drone got there in time and then what It will do nothing Would you want to carry out airstrikes and take out civilians too Our problem isn't the location of the hostages but getting them out "Safely" without civilian casualties and use of kinetics chances are like 30-20% success The problem is Operational philosophy. You dont buy Wing Loong and use it reactively. There should be a process for operating it and many teams at the back end doing evaluation pictures and videos feeds. Evaluation includes threat assessment and rating. Maybe soldiers should not be operating some MALE drones. They are more surveillance than combat abd a body like DSS is more organizationally suited to analyzing info and generating threat profiles than miitary who would miss subtle cues |
Foreign Affairs › Re: What Russia Has Lost So Far During The War by RiceProducers: 5:46am On Aug 18, 2022 |
huptin: Even Putin admitted as much in his last speech, saying that the west is just using this war as a pretext to dismember Russia.
All I know is :
1. There won't be a winner in this war, only losers.
2 Russia's economy will take a very long time to recover
3. The rich Oligarchs aren't happy with Putin but most of them are out of Russia any way they won't be able to hurt him
4. The west will try to weaken Russia further by creating an insurgency or strong opposition, a lot of Russians that used to be afraid of Putin, would have appraised this war and realised that Russia's military prowess has been grossly exaggerated and may try to confront him
5. Putin will keep fighting internal aggression, he will alienate himself further ad further, he may try to be more Brutish but age is no longer on his side.
6. Russia and other world leaders will think very well, before they invade smaller countries henceforth, less they be Putined. No 5 is the most striking of all these valid points you have made. Only an idiot with inferiority complex needs to invade other countries as a national leader at this time given the experience of the US in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. There is no short trtm military success that compensates for the medium and long term military defeat you will get (especially with hostile regional and global powers working against you). Even the bestof militaries struggle against internal militancies and organised insurections as we see now in Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Syria and Libya. Even Russia is only able to hold Chenchnya by using Chenchens and after a massive failure in Ukraine or if Kadyrov is taken out we will begin to see the disembarment of Russia which will happen very quickly. Al because of some ill advised, vain glorious invasion of a neighboring country. |

Russia IS getting weak according to sanctions. They are selling their oil cheap and asking for military aid from 3rd world countries. You don't have to tell lies to yourself. |

Exnavyboy62: Let me save us the stress of dragging this all day long. I know no country will ever entertain Invaders, there will surely be a fight till the last man, but Mr Zelensky should have a foresight of how this war affects Ukraine. His soldiers mostly the best of them keep dying on a daily basis even conscripts and foreign mercenaries are not exempted. The country's economy is going down the drain and the country itself is being reduced to rubles. And I don't think the Western support he's receiving will continue for long, the war has caused inflation of prices particularly in the west, there is hike in the price of food, oil & gas and other important produce. So he as the president has the role of protecting the interests of the Ukrainian people and also the role of making decisions to the best interest of the Ukrainian people and one of the best decision he can make right now is to move to the negotiating table and agree to Russia's terms of neutrality and not to join NATO. This is what America and NATO should have advised Ukraine to do but instead they incited Ukraine to go to war and they keep on sending military aid. The war is at the advantage of America but At the expense of Ukraine Believe me the guy suggesting surrender is not normal. He is also un realistic. It has never happened in history that people surrender to others on the basis of perceived military inferiority. I think he is another Putin admirer who has lost his sense of reality completely. Ükraine needs to assert its sovereignty. Sovereignty means independence of self determination to join any security arrangement they so wish. If that is a permanent and immovable red line for Rüssia, then it ıs already out of the domain of debate. The war will go on until the physical limits of both countries are reached. This is the point of destruction of Russia or a weakening so serious that it loses super power status. Lets not forget that North Korea has nuclear bombs, ICBMs and has also tested hypersonic weapons but is not regarded a super power, so also can Russia have the largest nuclear arsenals and still be irrelevant |

Exnavyboy62: I understand he didn't start the war but he should have agreed to surrender to Russia to prevent this crisis. Russia is not interested in Ukrainian land, she's just concerned that Ukraine joining NATO will spell trouble for her as the U.S is at the helm of NATO affairs. Should incase you wonder what kind of trouble, check out how the U.S caused the ousting of Pakistan's prime minister Imran Khan by bribing Pakistani parliamentarians and how the U.S almost caused a Chinese crisis by inciting young politicians and the people in Hong Kong to protest against their government. Comments like this only come from citizens of 3rd world countries. Apart from the cowardliness/supine weakness in the suggestion, it is also so low IQ and unrealistic. In what country has this ever happened?. Even US against Panama, there was resistance. How does a man with a good dose of testosterone and a working mind even suggest this? I am truly worried for the quality of human beings we are sharing the country with. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by RiceProducers: 8:50pm On Jul 01, 2022 |
Covert1: It's a good question. Aircrafts have roles. Bottom line is in today's modern air warfare, in the context of air-air combat, air superiority fighters are not up there programmed for first line of action Within-Visual-Range engagement (WVR) rather the F-15 or F-16 is programmed or suited for Beyond-Visual-Range (BVR) engagement. Simply put it is set up to detect at longer ranges and out of sight enemy aircrafts and light them up. That is why today the USAF incorporates 5th generation subsystems into the F-16s. I believe a portion of current US F-16 inventory have now AESA radars same which they have on the F-35s giving it the advantage to detect more targets at longer ranges and light them up. So in effect in the context of BVR combat its more about what you have on the aircraft than about the platform itself. The difference in platform in this instance is either a two engine fighter or single engine fighter, single seat or dual. In a practical warfare scenario an Tactical Air Combat Command would send aircrafts up for the roles they are best suited and for which they are built.
Now for the Su-35, generally the Flanker family aircrafts are built to be super maneuverable which gives it an edge in Within-Visual-Range (WVR) engagements. Here the Russian aircraft excels the F-15. Except for the USAF F-22 no other known fighter aircraft arguably can super maneuver as the Sukhoi aircrafts. However nations pour money into stealth and BVR technologies because in a peer warfare you might be dead in the air before you blink, it's more about who sees first shoots first. However the SU-35 an excellent non-stealthy aircraft has been used by the Russians to go up against the F-22 or F-35 both stealthy aircrafts and detected them at greater ranges so that would put it above the F-15 and certainly above the F-16. It is a deadly fighter. The Americans still don't have an answer for the SU-27 in the F-15 except for the stealthy F-35. Also of note is other factors that can play a role, aircraft availability which brings in maintenance, here western aircrafts have an edge as they are easier and cheaper to maintain and more reliable jet engines which produce more thrust.
I stress in the end pilot training, air combat hours, pilot agility and skill play a crucial role. A Saudi fighter pilot for instance can not be compared in proficiency to an Irainian fighter pilot. So having a shiny bird is one thing and having a nationalistic loyal skilled pilot is another factor in an adrenaline air combat.
Ground based systems or air borne systems like AWACS also can give an advantage. For everything developed there is a counter development. The Germans already excel in detection of stealth aircraft from ground based systems and reports have it the Iranians have once picked up the signature of USAF Lockhead-Martin Stealth F-35 aggressors with Russian supplied ground based radar.
I will choose an SU-35 as a sovereign nation with no inhibitions whatsoever in deployment and access to every code in its weapon suite to optimize employment of the fighter jet. JF-17s are now being optimized with AESA radars too. Very good and accurate discourse. I only disagree on SU27s and their derivatives. They are not showing good performance in Ukraine in terms of good sensors, self protection systems and counter measures |

Drenimarcus: I was reading it last week that Russia supplies Belgian breweries the bottles for their beers. Due to the sanctions, Belgian breweries cannot import the bottles. They opted for aluminum and guess what? Russia supplies those as well
Belgian breweries are at the verge of bankruptcy according to the article.
Na to find one small $$$ go invest for Russia. Thank God, $$$ is a bit surplus to the Rubles. Now Russia don dey get sense. Shebi dem and their usual ignorant admirers were boasting about Rouble value before. Dem for crash their economy badly. They should alsobstop the idiocy of insisting on Rouble for payments. It is not going to kill the dollar. The entire Russian economy is less than Texas GDP. If your exports are not cheap on the global market, people won't buy them because you are Russia. Also young 3rd world dwellers fawning over Putin should grow a brain. Economics is business not sentiments. The US and EU bought more Russian oil a few days after the heavy sanctions. They bought it at heavy discounts that Rusdian was forced to sell at. E get why. Your ajegunle sense may not understand it. Now they have cornered large %age of the demand for Russian oil and gas, they are forcing Russia to a price cap. At the same time they are developing alternatives at a furious pace. They want the hits to be sudden abd China or India cannot help. Maybe Rusdia should have restricted oil sales to only their friends but it means losing cash and the US had just seized Rusdian foreign reserves. If you are an admirer of Russia, you need to control your inferiority complex for the US and think intelligently. This funny story about beer cans and glass bottles is simple managerial economics. Pls think and stop being inferior. Russia has cheap gas. When Russia was part of the west ( and believe me Russia is still part of the West in a way) it made no sense to import gas from Russia to make glass bottles and beer cans in Belgium. The world was perfectly globalised and efficient just 4 months ago and Russia was part of the system. Russia's richest people had all, not some of their money in the west. Russias comparative advantage was natural resources and basic commodities used to make more advanced products in the west. Russia was dependent on EU countries and US for machine tools, chips, software and other advanced products. It was a simple balanced global system. No need to childishly gloat over it. Even Ukraine supplied many advanced components of Russian weapons..you can research this. |

Can't they learn from turkey and Hungary who are also member of NATO. Would you trade with your enemy that is on an expansionist path?. Anyway most Nigerians thunk money is every thing and would trade even life for money, so it is understandable that this comment will arise. To make it clear to you, buying Russian gas makes Russia richer. Rich Russia can afford more weapons to fight the war. That is the primary reason for the sanctions. Most Russian supporters have inferiority complex for the US and EU and don't think objectively about issues. They also wish that Russia could conquer, destroy and subjugate Ukraine quickly so that they "get stronger to match the West". It is a sick point of view. It minimises the Ukrainian a great deal and I wish most countries who support Russia this way also get invaded by outside powers in their bid to match other outside powers. Russia feels Ukrainian sovereignty is subordinate to global strategic balance. They will pay a high price for that mistake and get destroyed in the process. Putin says, the West is going down bit ot is not the US that has a dangerous war going on 400km from its capital. The most stupid move by any country in the modern world. We will see how this goes and history is already recording every event. Is it wisdom or naked power that triumphs. |

The Russian Ukraine war has actually exposed how much of a paper tiger Russian forces are. This is almost all of the remaining resources of Russia directed at this narrow objective. It is a shame that they could only make progress by using thermobaric weapons and varying range missiles.

There is no media reporting that Ukraine is winning in the Donbas..oh but we forget that most Russian supporters are actually so scared of the inevitability of Russian total disgrace in Ukraine that they are manufacturing fake news that the media is saying Russia is losing. Don't worry. Russia will lose, that is sure but it might be delayed. The only things reported in Donbas were a series of failed river crossings by the stupid Russian army and these were largely correct. Russia is using thermostatic weapons, kalibr missiles, long range guns and phosphoric ordinance to gain temporary territorial advantage in Donbas. Eventually they will be hit back at and disgraced out as happened in Kyiv and Kharkov. All requirements for that are already been assembled |

Faithful007: Two things are wrong with the Russian military. First their doctrine seems to have grossly underestimated artillery (Or rather artillery with drone scouting). They are primarily mechanized and this makes them easy targets for a coordinated defense artillery. Stinger missiles and artillery are stalemating the war already. Little close air support for Russia. Cruise missiles are only good for taking out logistics and bases, that's all.
Secondly their performance has made it clear that building a military loyal to a regime and not the country, degrades that military for three reasons. Top generals and officers are Putin loyalists and thus may not be the best qualified for the job (Rule of thumb: The finest generals are stubborn people. Any General asslicking a president is a weak one). Secondly, they'll be making poor strategic decisions in a quest to actualize Putin's ambitions. Thirdly, there is the morale issue, when you can't really find a convincing reason to defend your country, but rather you're a small part of a political goal, it doesn't boost confidence.
The US military is best for just that simple reason. Gen Mattis almost insulted Trump after he said that the military will be used to quell protests. Gen Mark Milley also told him straight up that they were not loyal to him but the constitution. This is the most sensible post I have read in 7 days. |

Ukraine can’t mount any offensive (haven’t done one successfully since the war started). Ukrainians are on their 4th mass call-ups yet nothing has changed on the battlefield. However they stay losing villages/towns/cities daily whilst taking heavy losses. In any case, Russia lost big at a failed River crossing at Sylverskyi Donetsk. This and other counter actions by Ukraine will make Russia lose Donetsk completely. Russia is showing weakness in the military Engineering and mission planning of their offensives and NATO equipment are flooding in. It is beginning to look like the entire Ukraine gamble was Putin falling into the trap of being disarmed and demilitarised for the protection of Europe. It is working good because Russians have been essentially stupid in their approach to the war |

The performance indicator is not territory advanced into but territory kept. |
