The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kano Zonal Office on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 arraigned one Jamilu Sule before Justice Dije Abdu Aboki of the Kano State High Court on a four-count charge of obtaining by false pretence. The defendant was alleged to have collected food items from a number of complainants worth N7,677,000 (Seven Million, Six Hundred and Seventy Seven Thousand Naira) on credit on the guise that he would supply them to supermarkets, while he would pay in seven days time. One of the charges reads: "That you Jamilu Sule between July to August 2018 at Singer Market Kano, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, deceitfully obtained some provisions and food items worth N7,677,000 (Seven Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-seven Thousand Naira) only being properties of Mohammed Shariff Ahmad, Ibrahim Dauda Abdullahi and Tajuddeen Abdulrahaman, committing cheating in respect of the said goods and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law." The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. In view of his not guilty plea, prosecution counsel Micheal Ojo asked the court for a trial date and prayed that the defendant be remanded in prison custody. The defence counsel, Mohammed Ali rather applied to withdraw the bail application he had earlier filed before the court on behalf of the defendant. Justice Aboki granted the prayer of the defence counsel and ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody. He adjourned the matter to July 21, 2019 for trial. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has destroyed 3,900 hectares of cannabis sativa in Ondo state as evidence of its opposition to the legalisation of the plant. The Agency said it never advocated the growth of cannabis sativa for medicinal purpose or economic gain. The NDLEA Chairman, Col. Muhammad Abdallah (retd), stated this on Monday, noting that he and the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, did not go to Thailand to learn how to grow cannabis sativa for economic gain, as being reported in some quarters. He explained that “the purpose of the visit to Thailand is to understudy how the country has successfully migrated some of her citizens hitherto engaged in illicit plant cultivation to the cultivation of legitimate economic crops and other lawful businesses.” “The NDLEA under my leadership has been consistent in our opposition to legalisation and decriminalisation of cannabis.” See more: https://zenithnaija.com/ndlea-destroys-3900-hectares-cannabis-farm-in-ondo-despite-akeredolus-call-for-legalisation/ Cc: lalasticlala dominique Mynd44

King Mswati III of Swaziland has declared in Mbabane Swaziland that men will from June 2019 be required to marry at least two or more wives or be jailed if they fail to do so. The king, who has 15 wives and 25 children, while his father and predecessor has more than 70 wives and 150+ children, noted that there are more women than men in Swaziland which he says is a very serious problem for a country, which is known to be full of virgins. According to IHarare, men from Swaziland are therefore required and expected to take more wives so that every woman gets a husband. In a statement, king Mswati called for all men in the country to marry at least five wives and the government assured the men that it would pay for the marriage ceremonies and buy houses for them. King Mswati warned that any man or woman who opposes the decision “will face a life sentence”.
