His modus operandi, according to EFCC investigations, was to present himself as Piero Luchas, a white man with email address jeremy.david564@gmail.com,to dupe his victims. Besides the four months jail term, Adeusi was also ordered to refund the sum of$1,800 as restitution to one of his victims. The Nigeria Police Force says Nigerians have the right to search its men in select circumstances. The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said this in a statement on Monday title0d, ‘(Part 2) Tips For Safe And Cordial Conduct During An Arrest.’ The Police said if an officer is about to search a citizen or a property, that citizen has the right to first search the policeman in order to ensure that no evidence is planted. According to the NPF, Nigerians also have the right to demand to know the reason for their arrest whenever an arrest is about to be made. The Force spokesman further stated that in some instances, Nigerians have the right to demand that an arrest warrant is presented before allowing themselves to be apprehended. The statement reads in part, “You may politely request that the officer be searched before searching you. Often times, this helps to allay fears that someone may be trying to plant incriminating items on you or implicate you in any other way. “Demand to see the warrant of arrest where necessary (note, however, that not all invitation/arrest requires a warrant). As a matter of fact, under our laws, the Police have wide powers to arrest without warrant in many circumstances. “Politely request that the officers allow you inform a trusted friend or a family member or a lawyer soon after your arrest in order to avoid unnecessary apprehension as to your whereabouts or safety. “If the arrest requires the officer to conduct a search on you, demand to see the Search Warrant and comply with all legitimate instruction during the search (note that there are a lot of instances where a policeman can search you with or without warrant).” The Force called on Nigerians never to resist arrest, even if it seems unjustified. It also counselled Nigerians to never interfere in the arrest of a third party. According to the statement, the Police may ask one to perform some tests such as walking in a straight line if a person is pulled over on suspicion of being drunk or high on drugs. A Nigerian also has the right to decline writing a statement upon arrest https://punchng.com/you-have-the-right-to-search-a-policeman-before-he-searches-you-npf/amp/

Men of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested two ex-convicts and one other suspect for alleged robbery in the Lekki area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects, Emmanuel Michael, Mohammed Abubakar and Simeon Michael, allegedly robbed a 25-year-old woman in Lekki Phase I on Monday, May 6, 2019. It was learnt that the men were arrested by a patrol team after the victim called for help. Emmanuel, who was released from the Oke-Kura Prison, Kwara State, on Friday, April 26, 2019, allegedly told the police that he was previously jailed for manslaughter. The 20-year-old said, “I was imprisoned in Kwara for almost four years for manslaughter. “With the assistance of my brother, I came to Lagos after my release and resided in Alaba Rago, Ojo. It was in that ghetto that I met Abubakar, who said I should accompany him to Lekki. “He paid the transport fares from Ojo to Lekki. He did not tell me he was going to rob. He only told me to play along with him.” Abubakar, 25, who is also an ex-convict, said the gang pretended to be cult members to put fear in the victim and dispossess her of her valuables. He said, “We saw the lady and our intention was to scare her into parting with her mobile phone. We told her that we were Aiye cult members and that the colour of her dress gave her away as a rival cult member. “I told Emmanuel to confirm if she was truly a rival cult member. I thereafter threatened to kill her on that spot if she did not cooperate with me. I took her phone and asked her to go and get us drinks. “She left to get the drinks when we jumped on a motorcycle and fled. Unfortunately for us, we did not know that a police team was patrolling the area. She called for help and chased us on another motorcycle. They caught up with us at Lekki Phase I gate and that was where the police arrested us.” Abubakar, who claimed to be a stylist, said he was arrested in Maryland, Lagos, in September 2018 for robbery before he was released in December 2018 from the Ikoyi Prison. President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of not possessing the statutory educational qualification to contest the February 23, 2019 election. In his counter-accusation, Buhari dared Atiku to produce his “educational certificates, indicating the schools attended by him, with dates,” before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. He said Atiku made conflicting claims to the tribunal by claiming he won the election and at the same time challenged the entire result of the same election. Buhari argued that “by virtue of Section of 137of the Electoral Act, petitioners cannot question the results of elections in states where they claim to have won and still retain themselves as petitioners” and urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition.
