The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has said the conclusion of declaration of the 2019 Presidential Election results would not take longer than the 2015 elections in spite of the sheer number of presidential candidates, size of the result sheets and increased voter population.

This was as the commission said it has achieved a 100 percent reconfiguration of its 180, 000 smart card readers ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections on Saturday.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on the state of preparedness of the commission for the polls.

Yakubu said the commission was working to ensure that it does not keep Nigerians waiting for days without declaring the results, saying the time limit would not exceed what obtained in 2015.

In 2015, while the Presidential Election held on a Saturday, a winner was not declared until the following Wednesday.

“Even though this time around we have more presidential candidates than in 2015, we have more registered voters than we had in 2015, the size of the result sheet is bigger than we had in 2015, but we are committed to concluding the process for the Presidential elections roughly about the same time that we concluded the 2015 general elections. We will do whatever we can to ensure that we speedily conclude the process but we won’t sacrifice accuracy for speed”,

Police in Imo State are holding a pregnant woman, who hacked her minor housemaid with a sharp weapon in Ubomiri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State.

In the video posted a Facebook user identified as Raymond Anunobi, whose bio shows that he works with the Nigerian Police Force, the young girl identified as Chioma is seen drenched in blood from serious injuries in her head following the brutal attack by the woman.

One of the videos shows the suspect in a taxi being hauled to the police station while villagers rained insults and curses on her.

A tricyclist received the slap of his life this morning for assaulting a lady who was his passenger over an argument that ensued between them.

According to an Instagram user who shared the story on her page, the tricyclist had pushed the lady on her forehead and she retaliated before a man came to her rescue by giving the driver a slap.

Hoodlums have distrupted the planned disbursement of ‘TraderMoni’ disbursement for traders at Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta ,Ogun State, Punch Metro reports.

It was gathered that the suspected political thugs distrupted the planned disbursement when officials of the programme were compiling the names of prospective beneficiaries at the stall of the Iyaloja, Mrs. Ramotalai Olatunji.

It was gathered that the prospective beneficiaries were forcibly dispersed by the hoodlums and that the Iyaloja was whisked away by the hoodlums.

When Punch Metro visited the market after the distruption, some scanty number of women were seen sitting under the canopy waiting for the officials of the programme.

‘Trader Moni’ is a Federal Government intervention programme for petty traders under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office has arrested one Kola Al-Amin, a former staff of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB over alleged forgery and obtaining money by false pretences.

His arrest followed a petition alleging that sometime in November, 2010, Kola who operates under the name of “Cool Technologies Consult Limited” with office located at No.4/900, Taiwo House, Second Floor,
Yemetu Total Garden, Ibadan, Oyo State approached the complainant, a microfinance bank (name withheld) with a Local Purchasing Order (LPO) for the supply of internet hardware which he claimed was from JAMB headquarters, Abuja.

He requested the microfinance bank to advance him a loan of 10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) only to finance the LPO.

The petitioner further alleged that Kola was granted the loan with the agreement that the proceed of the LPO from JAMB will be paid directly into his account with the microfinance bank but that at maturity time for repayment, he allegedly disappeared and on verification of the LPO in JAMB headquarters, Abuja, it was discovered that the LPO provided by the suspect was forged and that he was no longer a staff of the organization.

Additional investigation revealed that the suspect has been involved in several other fraudulent deals under the same guise of being a JAMB official.

He will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Pope Francis has defrocked former U.S. Cardinal, Theodore McCarrick, after he was found guilty of soliciting for sex while hearing confession and of sexual crimes against minors and adults.

McCarrick, 88, is the highest-ranking Catholic churchman to be laicized, as the process is called. It means he can no longer celebrate Mass or other sacraments, wear clerical vestments or be addressed by any religious title.

He is the first churchman who reached the rank of cardinal to be defrocked in the church’s sex abuse scandals.

The punishment for the once-powerful prelate was announced five days before Francis leads an extraordinary gathering of bishops from around the world to help the church grapple with the crisis of sex abuse by clergy and the systematic cover-ups by church hierarchy.

The decades-long scandals have shaken the faith of many Catholics and threaten Francis’ papacy.

The scandal swirling around McCarrick was particularly damning to the church’s reputation because it apparently was an open secret in some church circles that he slept with adult seminarians.

Francis removed McCarrick as a cardinal in July after a U.S. church investigation determined that an allegation he fondled a teenage altar boy in the 1970s was credible.

A seven-year-old girl, Mazichukwu, is battling with burns allegedly inflicted on her by her aunt, whom she lives with on Josiah Aina Street, Alakuko, Lagos State.

The aunt, Mrs Loveth Ozoihu, reportedly punished the girl by beating her with a hot knife for allegedly stealing chewing gum belonging to their neighbour’s child.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ozoihu, a trader, had sent Mazichukwu to give the neighbour the change for the goods she bought from her. The girl reportedly met the woman’s kid holding the candy and collected it from her. She was said to have returned home, chewing the gum, which she confessed to have collected from the neighbour’s kid when her aunt asked her where she got it from.

Enraged by Mazichukwu’s conduct, Ozoihu reportedly lit a gas cooker at midnight and put a knife on the burner. She reportedly placed the hot knife on the girl’s buttocks, leaving her to groan with pains. It was learnt that the Enugu State indigene later took the girl to a chemist’s shop, where a substance was applied to the injury.

A good Samaritan, who got wind of the assault, reported the case to the police at the Alakuko Division and Ozoihu was arrested. In her statement to the police, the 25-year-old suspect denied assaulting the girl, but claimed that Mazichukwu mistakenly sat on the burner.

But Mazichukwu faulted her aunt’s claim before the police, insisting that the woman inflicted the burns on her buttocks.

Ozoihu was subsequently arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on one count of assault occasioning harm.

Last night, Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya remained unbeaten in the octagon after he beat middleweight legend, Anderson Silva, in the main event at UFC 234 in Melbourne, Australia.

Silva’s fight with Israel Adesanya was bumped up to the main event earlier in the day when the originally scheduled bout between middleweight champ Robert Whittaker and challenger Kelvin Gastelum was canceled when the champion suffered a hernia.

Put into the main-event spot, the duo dazzled in a bout filled with flashy strikes, head games, and near knockouts that barely missed. And while Silva had more than his fair share of moments, Adesanya is the one in his prime. And that showed as the bout wore on.

Adesanya was faster and simply landed the bigger shots as he went on to a unanimous decision victory at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. The judges’ scores were 29-28 and a pair of 30-27s for the victor.

Many people were feared killed and no fewer than 10 vehicles, 7 buildings and shops were destroyed after a petrol tanker fell at Amawbia round about, near Governor’s lodge in Anambra state.

The incident happened about 9.20pm on Saturday, close to the Fire Service office. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, while confirming the incident, described it as sad and unfortunate.

Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters at the Elebu-Oja area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspects include: Ojo Ayobami, Dayo Adedokun, Ojo Ayotunde, Ibidapo Ileriayo, Ibidapo Kolade, Adeniyi Gbenga, Aluko Idowu and Adeusi Olatunji.

They were rounded up on February 8, 2019 following action on a series of intelligence reports. They are alleged to be involved in fraudulent activities ranging from love scam and other forms of internet fraud, through which they obtain money from unsuspecting victims.

Three different models of exotic cars, laptop computers, telephones, international passports and several incriminating documents were recovered from them.

They will soon be charged to court.

Nigerians have taken to social media to express disappointment over the construction of a giant broom in front of the Abuja City Gate.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) noted that as of Thursday, it wasn’t clear what was being constructed when they began, but afterwards, it turned out to be the broom symbol of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A Twitter user, @adex0057, uploaded a photograph of the broom taken as on Thursday, and he tagged the Guinness World Records (GWR) in his caption.

The caption read: “WORLD LARGEST BROOM Attention: @GWR This is the Largest Broom anybody or group has ever [erected] anywhere in the world. This is work of some group of volunteers of @OfficialAPCNg . It deserves your recognition and honour. Location: Abuja; Date: 02/07/2019.”

The tweet by @adex0057 was retweeted by Rauf Aregbesola, immediate past Governor of Osun State.
However, the presence of the APC broom has been greeted by anger and in some cases, disappointment.

Maxwell Ayinbisa, an 11-year-old boy in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, Ghana, has been set ablaze for allegedly peeping at a woman in a bathroom.

It was gathered that Maxwell was caught by one Nsobila John, who doused him with petrol and set fire on him.

However, the families of the victim and suspect later reached an agreement to settle the matter out of court.

Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a dismissed soldier, Sampson David, for an alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery.Parading the suspect alongside others, on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, said that one English pump-action gun and two pairs of military uniform were recovered as exhibits from David.

The CP said, “On December 5, 2018, SARS operatives arrested one Amarachi Ihejirika of Umugama, Owu-Amakohia in the Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State, in connection with unlawful possession of firearm and impersonation.

“She confessed that the gun and military uniform belonged to her fiancée, who claimed to be a soldier.

“The said Sampson David, who has been terrorising Owerri and its environs through kidnapping and armed robbery, was arrested by our gallant officers.”Galadanchi added that upon interrogation, the dismissed soldier confessed that he stole the gun from the Nigerian Legion’s office in Abia State.

According to the CP, the command will arraign the suspect in court at the conclusion of investigation.

The Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command is investigating a case of rape reported against one Razaq Oluwaseun Oke, 28, in Blue and Don-Chima George, 25,in Black of Dallankester Hotels, Lekki, Phase one Lagos.

A statement from the Lagos state police command, CSP Chike Oti, states that the duo allegedly took a girl, 23, to a club on Saturday, February 2, 2019, unknown to her that they had ulterior motive. While at the club, they mixed the young woman's drink with a substance that made her weak and almost unconscious.

Satisfied that the drug was beginning to affect the victim, they quietly left the club with her to Dallankester Hotels in Lekki Phase one, owned by the father of one of the suspects named Don-Chima George.

At the hotel, they took turns to rape her. As if that wasn't enough, they filmed the abuse.

When the victim woke up from the induced sleep, she confronted the suspects who denied having carnal knowledge of her. Not satisfied, she placed a call to her elder brother complaining that she had been violated.

The brother immediately invited policemen from Maroko Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Isah Abdulmajid to the scene.

On searching the suspects, the DPO recovered their phones and went through their video recordings where he saw a video of the suspects sexually abusing the apparently unconscious victim.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi has directed the Gender Section of the Command to investigate and diligently prosecute the suspects to serve as deterrent to others.

A 3-month-old baby, Mohammed Sani, was burnt to death in a fire outbreak in Kano on Tuesday February 5th.

According to reports, Mohammed's parents lived in a two-bedroom apartment at Sheka Yar’ Kasuwa in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano where the fire started.

The mother of the child was the only one at home and had run out of the house in search of help from neighbours when the fire started. Unfortunately, the child died in the raging fire before men of the state fire service could contain it.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

A young Nigerian man has been reportedly apprehended after being spotted in a female hostel at the Kogi State University in Anyigba area.

The shocking incident reportedly happened early this morning, February 4, 2019.

It was gathered that the suspect was allegedly trying to steal from the students inside the hostel before an alarm was raised and he was nabbed.

Some of the students alleged that the young man was trying to steal their panties and underwear.

Now, the lady fears her grandmother might try the same thing with her brother.

Self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife were arrested by the Hawks on Friday morning in Rustenburg on charges of fraud and money laundering.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed the arrest and said the case against the couple was linked to alleged offences of fraud and money laundering, as well as the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), which had been committed from 2015.

The contravention of the Act was in relation to Exchange Control Regulations relating to foreign currency of $1 147 200 (around R15m).

Mulaudzi said that the couple, who run several business enterprises in South Africa and abroad, were expected to appear before the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court on Monday.

According to a statement posted on Bushiri's Facebook page, the arrest took place at 07:00 at the Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg.

"They took the Prophet and our mother Prophetess Mary Bushiri in handcuffs to Pretoria. They have charged our father with fraud and money laundering," the statement on his page reads.

Earlier on Friday, the CRL Commission exonerated Bushiri from responsibility for the stampede at his Pretoria church, where three people died, saying the church had fully complied with safety regulations.

In April last year, tabloid publication Sunday World reported that Bushiri was apparently making so much money from his churches in South Africa that he was able to send R15m a month back to his home in Malawi.

Mulaudzi confirmed to the tabloid at the time that the Hawks had been investigating the pastor, but cautioned that the case was in its early stages and that he could not divulge or confirm any details.

The controversial prophet at that time told SABC News that he was not even aware that the police were investigating him and that he had only heard about the investigation through the media.

The "Major 1" as he is affectionately known by his followers, also kept social media abuzz in December 2017 for selling tables for a gala dinner at a cost of between R1 000 and R25 000.

Social media users found these prices ridiculously high and have taken to Facebook and Twitter to share their thoughts.

Bushiri has recently denied that his church demanded congregants to pay in order to have one-on-one sessions with him.

We have more details about the 15-year-old who was married off to an allegedly demented man from the wealthy Igwilo family in Ozubulu community in Anambra state.

Activist, Prince Harrison Gwamnishu, who visited Anambra state after the story went viral, said the said girl is from Ihiala community and is actually 15 going on 16.

Harrison in an interview with LIB , said the girl is from a very poor family and that she had a child when she was in primary 5 and had to quit school. Her family couldn’t continue sponsoring her education and also taking care of her child so they decided that they were going to marry her off to Izuchukwu who came recently with his family members to ask for her hand in marriage.

Acording to the family, they believe no one would come for the little girl’s hand in marriage since she has a child.

Harrison says the Igwilos really want Izuchukwu to get married and also have children of his own, hence they have accepted to have the girl come into their family with her own child. Izuchukwu’s brothers, who are said to be wealthy, have pledged to sponsor the girl’s child and any children she and their brother will have together.

The traditional wedding of Izuchukwu and the teen girl is slated for Easter this year and, according to Harrison, a lot of money running into millions of Naira has been budgetted for the ceremony.

In the video, a little girl was filmed speaking in tongues while laying hands on the head of a woman, believed to be her mother. Apparently, a lot of social media folks thought the video was adorable but OAP Freeze has a contrary opinion.

The media personality said the video of the child praying in tongues is neither cute nor adorable, instead, he finds it disturbing.

Sharing the video to Instagram, he wrote:

Sorry guys, I don’t find this as cute or adorable, it’s disturbing!

Children should NEVER be encouraged to play with, or mimic the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they might unknowingly sin in the process, sins against the Holy Spirit, as we are all well aware, are UNFORGIVABLE!

Furthermore, the ‘speaking in tongues’ many Pentecostals practice today is in grave error, as it flouts what the scriptures tell us in Acts 2; where the people present could all hear their own languages, not the mumbling of jargons many churches today are notorious for.

In the light of this, is it fair for us to indoctrinate our children at such an early age? Is this what the children of our counterparts across the world are learning?

Currently, despite having less than 10% of the combined populations of India and China, we have MORE than their combined poverty according to worldpoverty.io

If we have more poverty, more suicides, we are facing a drug abuse crises, a political crises (many churches are part of this), our billionaires are poorer according to Forbes, what exactly is the benefit of this our over-religiousness??‍??
