People on this thread don't really go through results. They just check the PAT and that's it. I'm not of a Finance and Accounts background but some of the basics are there to read for whoever is interested.
Like has been posted before, which is not news, FX will be this biggest player on most bank results this year. FX gains/losses and loan losses
GTB (the almighty bank) in it's Q2 had to add FX translation gains to it's PAT (instead of under OCI as ZIB and UBA did or else it would have declared a loss for the 3 months ended June) due to very high Loan impairment charges. That's one of the most stable banks. FCMB did the same thing. So these are banks wit good NET FX Assets.
Now imagine banks with Net FX liabilities (rather than Assets), also having high loan loss to deal with this year. My take is this: for any bank whose Q3 you are expecting, just check the Q2. If there was a considerable increase in it's loan loss therein don't expect anything too fantastic in Q3. If even worse, it has a net FX liabilities rather than Assets, you might even want to sell because there'd be nothing to cushion the rise in loan losses (except cutting down drastically on operating expenses, I guess).

Also i think zenith is a hidden gold mine , they refused to include the fv revaluation in their half year result which was still impressive, for better risk management. which gtbank has already shown in theirs, causing their historic profit result. So i can only imagine when zenith convert their fx assests since the official fx rate has changed (maybe in their full year result)

I sacked mine over a month ago when I became privy of the charges too . Morgan has some cool advantages I must say particularly this premarket tnz. Most platforms don't do it yet.

all what is happening is something I personally expected but I'll advice that people should hold on tightly to their good stocks bought @ good prices and dispose bad/good speculative stocks if you've made profit from your position.
eg Oando fair value #7.6 (based on q3 result) could break this but MR Market is always right
the market is @ a stage of all man for himself, God for us all

From Monday, Naira priced bonds & stocks will drop massively in dollar terms, so for chaps holding the Nigeria ETF quoted in usd, its a time bomb about to happen on Monday. Once the trial period is over and people trust that the new system works . . $1 buys a lot more than before

You are the CEO of your portfolio but don't sell in a hurry (word). The market is repricing (key). I would watch the Oil stocks (barometer, and oil itself). At the point where optimism start to diminish, I will become fearful (hint). They got the banks into this mess (word). Oando can't be bullish and the banks that lent money to it be bearish (analogy). If business is good for the likes of Oando, recovery is sure for the likes of FCMB (hints, which is the chicken which is the egg, which comes first). If devaluation is announced (it would be. two tier coming), expect increased optimism in the market (hint, further hint watch historical ASI resisitance and support level for direction). The dollar people will want to enter the market (some are in already, others coming). Also keep your radio close by (warning). Anything can happen (ve u ever watched or participate in texas bull riding competition the key is volatility and d danger inherent in it, it could be exciting and killing and the same time) .
