Administer multivitamin, Some give chicken intestine as additional diet.

How big is your pond and the number stocked.. another reason might be the seed you bought. its not a clarias issue.

I have never heard this before.. I think the issue is that you didn't sort on time hence the disparity in their growth rate.. Feed the smaller ones some extra with multivitamin.

I lost a fish. I noticed it on Monday after changing their water. It seems d fish died a long time cos the other fish have already started eating the dead fish.

sorry for the loss But the painful part is that its the bigger ones that die while the smaller ones feast on it.

I'll appreciate an advice and cost implication of setting up a small size recirculatory hattery. This is an option I am considering because of the several failed spawning efforts I have made using flow through method.

My 1000 fish was 1month on April 11, and they've consumed 1 bag of coppen so far.

I gave them multivitamin two weeks after stocking and clean the pond with salt solution each time i change the water.

I sorted on Saturday into two concrete ponds when they were 1month old with about 350pcs measuring about 9-10inches [pond 1] while the other are about 6-8 inch. [650 pond 2]

I stocked at 3-4inch [post fingerling] and they were already eating 2mm before stocking. I intend using Coppens, Multifeed and Vitafeed to maturity.

I feed them 3 times daily, 6.30am, 12.30pm and 6.30p.m daily to satiation 4 times on weekend as weekend bonus

Mortality rate has been very low 4-6 at most which occurred after changing of water and sorting as a result of stress

My question is whether their growth rate is in other. At that rate will they be able to attain average of 1.2kg at 4months?

What are the other things to do to enhance their growth rate?

Well done sir, we cant tell you if they will attain 1.2kg within four months, as there are factors to be considered like stocking density, water, fish seed, feeding, sorting. not even all can attain 1.2kg or the same kg as they will not grow at the same rate. Just keep observing the best management practices and I guarantee you in 4 months they will attain a reasonable weight..

You don't need to record mortality during changing of water, don't drain the water completely.. drain to one feet and pump water into the pond with the outlet still open with a bit of time the water will be clean, then you can close the outlet and keep pumping till desired level.

What is the size of your ponds?

Hello house. I think is time 2 move further in hatching catfish. I know some of u hv heard of Quinaldine (liquid substance) use for female broodstock and about 5-10 drop is added to d water which make d fish 2sleep and is now easy 2spawn d fish.it is commonly use in other part of d world especially in Thailand hatchery. I still remember excelsiorfarm used 2 send d Techniques of Catfish Hatchery Management Used in Thailand 2 anybody dat need it in Nairaland. I believed u should kw more about it. My Question is how can anyone who is a Hatcher or future Hatcher get dis product in any part of Nigeria. Robonski 15 and others what do u think.

I don't know if it is already available in the market right now, but I will get through to an agro store in Lagos to find out more.

You can't hatch there sir, hatching is a different ball game all together. To hatch you need to have a spawning vat, nursery etc.

It will be better if you divide the pond for sorting purpose..10ft by 4.5ft depth of 4ft.

thanks man. but here are the factors considered... stagnant pond, change of pond water by flow through once a week, pond fertilization with manure, constant oxygenation with an aeration pump, target size of 700g in 4 months from hatching... let me know if your dimension still stands.

The amount you stocked is ok to table size. Keep monitoring their growth, change water as at when due.

A 20ft by 20ft with a depth of 4ft will be ideal.

Thanks boss. The size of the pond is 20ft X 17ft X 4ft and I stocked 850 fishes in each pond. Pls do u think they are too many in the pond cos they sometimes eat up one another. Its up to a month I stocked at juvenile level now and about 2 of them are weighing 500grams, could they be one eating up the smaller ones?

The ponds are understocked which is even better.. I will advice you do some proper sorting into sizes to avoid cannibalism. seclude the two bigger ones asap.

you have to get an experienced brick layer for the construction of the concrete pond and negotiate price. How many concrete pond do you want to build?
post fries prices differ from state to state In lag it goes for 13 to 15 naira depending on bargain power. you hv to look for a good hatchery to purchase your seeds.
