Many thanks to all the contributors on this thread, i have finally taken off with 150 juveniles of 9weeks on 27th March, already they are one week old and doing fine, i was given extra 10 for mortality. I change their water in days interval and yesterday one was seen injured which looks like attack, i have separated it to heal. Am just happy i met great poeple in this place, all thanks to Sir Robonski for creating the thread, respect to all contributors. I remain loyal.

i tot for earthen pond, u have to lime for days (to kill anything living in the pond), then fertilise the pond for 2 weeks with chicken manure.
After fertilisation, u drain the water. Fill again then stock. Juveniles are more preferable to stock in earthen pond.

I will also advise you to read all abix's, Juve and Tokugawa posts on this thread..

On a lighter note, how Jamp? noticed his thread has been deleted. I was searching on stocking density of earthen pond on this thread , Then saw his posts in 2013 when he was asking questions on how to stock wit a plastic tank of 2000litres. I then recalled dt he said in his deleted thread that he has over 5years experience.
The guy was targeting big fish like Oga Fhemmy, He didnt need small boys, even to sell his manual. There is nothing ive nt seen on nairaland.

Hello everyone.. I ventured into the hatching biz early last month and sold my fingerlings recently @ a very ridiculous price N3.50k. It was a hug problem getting market for my fingerlings and their growth were very Okay.

I don't know if anyone in the house could be of help.. My location is Ijebu ode.. And my whatsapp contact is : 08121305469

Though I faced some problems through the journey of fingerlings production which Robonki and the house gave me diff. Solution which helped, but lately I was so disgusted @ those bigger fishes(shooters) the way they swallowed the smaller one which means in my next journey I really have to take sorting so serious. But have some questions below;

What is the easiest way to sort? And @ what week after hatching should I sort?

I don't use VAT for hatching... I use concrete pond and its a very difficult task to transfer fries to bigger pond and mostly gets mortality .. Any advice on method to be applied.

No mind me oh. . . . DOnt worry, will start oh. . . BUT it is difficult when you are NOT on ground to do it yourself and have to depend on people, our people are so dishonest, show me a reliable and honest person that could handle it, and i will commit to it, MOST people are hawk in nature.

@Mercylicious, am fine. am happy at your testimony about you fishes doing well. When you start on large scale, you will know how to manage them. Well done.

Mine too are doing pretty well and are pretty big now, they will be two months by 28. Tempted to sell them at melange sizes but hmmm will wait two months when they will be five months.

My challenges are with the guy. He is greedy. I give him money to buy feed but he does not buy. I gave him 54k for 10bags last month he only bought five, I gave him 50k this month he has only bought 4bags. Telling me lies. He has used Zeigler, multi feed and crown feed against my wish(told I him want Zeigler) . Crown feed is even 9mm he bought, some picked and other struggle to pick n never succeeded. Giving me stupid excuses. I know well has eaten my money. Will never give him my money, buying my feed myself next time. Only to pay him for labor and fuel.

Yes!
My fish became 2weeks last sat.
Obesity don dey know for their door to d amazement of my neighbours.
They now recognise their feeding spot.
Once they 'see' me, they all rush to their feeding spot. After feeding them, they start dancing kurukere music in d pond, moving up and down mostly at the location oposite their dining table.

I have removed any covering on d pond to allow them continuos fresh air. They like wind so much and play a lot when its airy especially at night. They seem to be nocturnal animals as their activities increase at night.

Tnx prof but I dnt have pics of any at d moment cos I disposed them off.
I applied a mixture of some tabs (tetracyclin, chloramphenicol and procaine penicillin but their powder).
I don't know if I shld change their water and feed them or leave them till d following day (which I fear its risky cos they've not eaten well for two dys now).

is there any disadvantage of using a smaller sized feed for a fish?
i bought another 1kg of 1.8mm cos i dont want to run out of feed at anytime as i saw d remaining feed as small. Bt when i checked the remaining feed, it was no as small as i tot. By the time my fish finish the remaining one, they shld be on 2mm. Since ive bought the 1.8mm already, i intend to continue wit it. Is it wrong?

Also, sumone shld help wit a pic to identify diff types of fish, holland and dutch.
Are their table fish prices different?
