delpee: Ignorance! I just finished my ebolo vegetable soup. Yorubas are highly urbanised and a lot of people have lost solid contact with their roots so they don't know much about the various local soups made by our grandmothers from very nutritious vegetables like amunututu, sokoyokoto, ebolo, efinrin, ewuro and gbure. These vegetables are also herbal remedies for those who know how to use them. All eaten with iyan in the villages.
There's also ila alasepo, gbegiri, apon (ogbono) and elegede soups. Ewedu is a wonderful vegetable and herbal medicine.
I agree that most young Yorubas don't know much about these veggies and most bukas prepare the cheapest vegetable and egusi or ewedu. I dey eat Amala steady lol. I spent a huge part of my childhood in Lagos. From age 3 to 15. |

Kapeter: the sa government can't just let foreigners (most especially black nationals) leave their country because of the actions of their citizens, they(the sa govt) are not at war with any country and they won't want their reputation down, it will look like they are not in control of their country, it's something that they really won't love.
Imagine, a country evacuating their citizens when it's not that they are at war with such country, that's why they are doing this. They won't allow any mass evacuation anymore believe me, they will keep changing their immigration rules to stop countries trying to mass evacuate their nationals. What's your point? Baseless |

It does not affect me but I am not one of those that lick aszes to survive and I am thankful to God for the decision that I took when I was still in secondary school. Which means no matter how bad the economy gets, I will still survive. But that does not mean I should keep quiet because I am not affected, like a lot of Nigerians do. The sold aim of this agenda by requesting for their bank details is to whip them in line. And I can't blame him because when this same method was done to Onnoghenne, they all kept quiet. Now they are being subjected to same measure. I pity those who still feeding this dragon because it will consume all, including Tinubu. In just within a month, he closed down borders in South West, whilst the one in the North is opened. I met a Nigerien in Ogun state during the election season. At the Border, all you will find there are Northerners, no single South West as customs officer. Then they propose increment of vat from 5 to 7.2%. Then next they want to start charging people for advertising online (this one affects me because my business depend on online ads) but the good thing is that, it can not fly because Nigeria does not own the Internet. If they own it, then we can begin talk. |

AmuDimpka: Do you even know many companies in Lagos that igbo own and they don't even make noise.... Trust me, these igbo guys have gone far... There is nothing that we use today without igbo in print.... The igbo and hausa have covered the economy Actually, Igbos and Yoruba hold this country in terms of quota contributions. They are the most brilliant of all if we go by their accomplishments. The stats are out there for all to see. I was reading about a Yoruba guy who won the Yali competition for nano scanner invention that can detect fake drugs in real time. Dude beat over 150 contestants to emerge winner. I was supposed to drop the link here but my business needed some logistics issue sorted and so I forgot until now. Maybe someone can Google and add it here. With regards igbo companies not known, that is right and not in doubt and those who started this fight from that side had limited source. There is one low key Igbo boy from Abia who made billions of naira from software sales. He is not even 30 yet and he loves to keep a low profile. |

Iblad0994: Thanks bro. You did a wonderful job on this thread same with the other contributors.
I was just on my bed going through all this and I’m amazed with the reach and sagacity of the Yorubas. I know Edo/Benin also share some sort of similarities with us looking at the fact that we are all offspring of Oduduwa/Oranmiyan.
One important strength of the Yorubas is that they own businesses and corporations that cuts across all sectors, and we are well versed in the IT and service sector in general.
I live in the USA, IT and service sector generates a lot for the USA such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, AT&T, IBM, Walmart, and e.t.c.
If you check the richest people in the world, you will see a lot of these IT and Corporation plays a major role in the USA economy and the world in general. For example, amazon is just an online marketplace where several billions of goods are sold and that made Jeff one of the richest.
The Yoruba guys have invested in lot of these IT and corporations as evident in what you guys contributed from the first page up to this page. Most ignorant people always think prosperity is measured by selling from 2by2 shops or by assembling China auto parts and rebranding it as locally produced.
I’ll also contribute my quota on this thread later coz by far this is the most knowledgeable thread I’ve read on Nairaland. It’s not only about winning alone but it’s about gaining knowledge about business spread and how entrepreneurs are shaping Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
God bless everyone! God bless you. This thread has done justice it deserve in the history of who is who. I hate boasting, I hate pride and it irks the living hell out of me when I read comments from my brothers. Igbos are solid hustlers and well accomplished in their strides as it is evident but people will respect you more when you do not blow your own trumpet and let your works speak for you. I drew inspiration from this thread. That is just it. |

Iblad0994: Yoruba the pride of Nigeria.
If we had continued the regional government, we would have been the envy of Africa and the world in general.
We don’t just own small retail business, but we own mega industries and the largest service sectors in Nigeria.
Odua bless the Mighty Yoruba tribe. you guys rock biko. You people are gifted when it comes to creating wealth. I noticed something in the Igbo version of this thread, the guys who made the list didn't include one man. The man is igbo and maker of Eva soap and others. It was this year I discovered he owns the company that makes most of the items we use. There many of such not known. My uncle, a Benin man, own one of the biggest transport companies in Lagos but has no park in Benin. He did it intentionally. |

Nooneonline: Ur number one problem is Ego. I am a graduate I cant work in a local place? Does the locality of the place stop u from getting paid? Or u re worried about what ur girl will say when she sees u teaching in a place like that.
Second problem is ur locale. I don't know where u re but 25k in a village is a good salary considering u re a guy u don't need much to survive. Food is most likely cheap plus ur house rent is 1500k a month. U can use that to ur advantage and save. U don't even buy water like people in the city do.
3. U re not imaginative nor creative. Y do I say so? Have u tried thinking about holiday lessons to make more money or after school lessons? U can charge 500 to 1k per student. U don't see this teaching job as an avenue to gain experience and make extra money.
And the most important drawback is that u went to school just to read books. No skills and and u didn't utilise ur Nysc period. No savings (u dey spend am for girl or u dey Bleep). no connections (mr extrovert). Listen to the radio read books. leave ur girl when u make am girls go yakpa I thought I was the only one that noticed the ego lol. And there are millions of Nigerian students like him. When I lost my mother, I did all manner of things to survive... Including the sales boy he rejected. I did this before I could go back to school. There was time I also packed sands from gutter. Mind you, in an area we once lived in a flat and peopeknew me. But I no send dem. I wrote exams for people. Prior to this, I had been reading a lot of books regarding doing business and when I eventually went back to finish school and graduate, it has been strictly hustle ever since... I was posted to a village during my NYSC and I couldn't do much, I had to Find a way to raise money before leaving NYSC and God so kind I had 150k waiting for me outside before I could leave. I eventually raised that money to some millions when I got out but lost focused and blew it up. |
