I hope your problem will be resolved soonest. You should understand the following:

1. Quinine usually causes slow and progessive decreased hearing. It is dose dependant.
2. There are many things that can cause your problem. No need to panic yet
3. You should go and see an ENT soonest. If I can I will refer you to one.
4. ENT should examine you and do Weber/Rinne tests (check YouTube) and Audiogram if necessay.
5. Hearing problems can be of 2 types: obstructive (sometimes goes on and off like you described) or nerve related (slow and progresive like Quinine).
6. Most hearing problems can be cured.

Remember panicking will not help you until you see an ENT. Good luck!

Update Sir.

So I was at LUTH on Thursday but we couldn't do anything much because they requested for recommendation letter from the hospital that referred me to LUTH. So on Friday, I was at LUTH. I was asked if I had any nasal problem like catarrh (my brother was interpreting for me). I said no. They asked if I had throat pains and I said no. They asked if I have sneezed, I said no.

I had no idea what they were trying to find out as I hadn't taken time to make any observations on myself. So, the doctor asked us to go to another office to book hearing test appointment which we did and was told to come on 8th of December.

On my way home, I decided to observe myself. It was then I found out that I actually have the catarrh symptoms BUT very minimal. I also noticed a slight improvement in hearing. Phlegm (Catarrh liquid) was leaving my nose and entering my mouth IN very small quantities, which I either swallow or spit out. This continued while on the way home. Then I decided to block one of my nostrils. I did found out that one was free and the other wasn't, as if I had catarrh. At that point in time, I knew something was up.

On Saturday, after much observation, I decided to by ampiclox (beecham) and took 2 tablet after night meal. By next morning, I noticed a good improvement. I kept taking the ampiclox until Monday.

As at the time of writing this, my ear is complete back to normal and I can now hear clearly, except for the other ear that was affected by Quinine.

Since I have started the process, I will wait to complete and let's see if something can be done about the other ear affected by quinine in 2000. I really do hope that something can be done.

I know that feeling. It's why I have avoided using it all these year and since my left ear was still functioning, I didn't felt I should use it. But as it is now, I will have to use it.

Was at LUTH today and told get a recommendation letter at where they referred me. So I am typing from there now. Have my brother with me cos right now, I can't hear much except my ear, right ear is close to the person's mouth lol.

Yeah, I still hear sounds faintly with the left ear. . I could hear normally with my left hear before but couldn't hear with right one.
I receive all calls with the left ear but now the left one sounds like broken speaker or faulty speaker if that makes sense to anyone here.

I will have to use hearing aids if it comes to that.

Does hearing aids correct hearing loss? I saw my lecturer use it for one year and later stopped. Does that mean he got cured by the hearing aids?

Well,I dunno where you came from,but if you are Yoruba,there are more than enough Yoruba women with tribal marks and they are doing just fine. You are the only person that can help yourself,be proud of your look and never allow anyone look down on you,a man would love you for you and the good thing you have to offer while he overlooks your tribal mark.

The question you should as is what is the nature of her tribal marks. Some tribal makes are beautifully done and others are just a disfigure.

Can hearing loss be cured?

I had an illness in 2000 and was given quinine which later affected my hearing abilities. Sounds sounded like when you deep your head in water and people are talking.

after some weeks, I could hear properly than when the loses started, but the left ear did most of the hearing, I receive al calls with the left one.

In 2008, I went to UBTH for test where sounds were ran through my ears, left and right one, , which confirmed my left ear hear well than the right one because the frequency graph on the right one was very low than the left one.

After that day, it was come back today, come back tomorrow that I got tired.

I lost my mum same year and it became tougher for us. We were more concerned about surviving than anything else.

Thankfully, we survive the trial period but for 1 month + now, I can notice I can't hear as much as I used to with the left ear. It goes on and offer. It's back now and lasting 1 week+ and sounds now come out like faulty radio speaker sounds. So we decided to visit a nearby specialist hospital where the doctor said we should go to LUTH.

Can hearing loss be cured? Which is the best place In Lagos to get treated for something like this please?

I need help please because I am already feeling worried I might not hear again.
