I feel like Osun is even making more effort in the production part sef than Ondo. Eerm...Are there any chocolate companies in Osun?

I heard there is one in Ondo state called SpagnVola. I haven't seen pictures of their factory online tho. You sabi am?
Yeah, I think SpagnVola are still operating at a lower level for now, hence their low key profile. However, I expect to see more chocolate factories springing up in both Ondo and Osun in the nearest future coz there's a lot of potential in the processing and marketing of chocolate.

According to http://www.worldstopexports.com/chocolate-exporters/ the following are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of chocolate during 2016. Please note that none of these counties grows Cocoa or have a single tree of the crop, yet they make more from exporting it after adding value to it than us. This is the direction our cocoa producing states ought to be following:

Germany: US$4.5 billion (17.1% of total chocolate exports)
Belgium: $2.9 billion (11%)
Netherlands: $1.8 billion (6.8%)
Italy: $1.7 billion (6.3%)
United States: $1.6 billion (6.1%)
Poland: $1.6 billion (5.9%)
Canada: $1.5 billion (5.6%)
France: $1.4 billion (5.4%)
United Kingdom: $878.8 million (3.3%)
Switzerland: $802.2 million (3%)
Mexico: $628.6 million (2.4%)
Russia: $476.7 million (1.8%)
Spain: $435.6 million (1.7%)
Austria: $413.6 million (1.6%)
Turkey: $403 million (1.5%)

The listed 15 countries shipped about four-fifths (79.4%) of all chocolate exports in 2016.

Among the above countries, the fastest-growing chocolate exporters since 2012 were: Canada (up 44%), Poland (up 41.2%), Netherlands (up 37.3%) and Spain (up 20.5%).

Anyway, good to see Osun State making moves. And like RockHard mentioned, this is basically an extension of an already established relationship. I can't wait to see this come to fruition.

I noticed the company is a cocoa company.

Osun seems to be SW state that's most serious about cocoa. I guess there is a comparative advantage. And with the way things are going, the state might even dethrone Ondo as the top cocoa producing state
Ondo is still the highest producer of the cash crop, but unfortunately the state isn't thinking of adding value to the crop before exporting it the way Osun is currently doing. Value addition increases the price of the chocolate end product, and even earns more fx than the raw Cocoa that are currently exported.

Even if Nigerians aren't big consumers of chocolate (though local demand is increasing), the Europeans, Americans and Asians (especially the Chinese) are, and are willing to pay far more for the processed Cocoa than the raw ones.

https://www.businessdayonline.com/industrial-data-show-lagos-losing-real-sector-investments-ogun-2/

A three-year data dealing with the direction of manufacturing and agro processing investments show that Ogun is elbowing Lagos in new investments.

Data by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), analysed by BusinessDay, show Ogun State has over 70 percent share of manufacturing investments in the country between 2014 and 2016.

In 2014, manufacturers invested N691.77 billion, out of which N514.87 billion went to Ogun State, representing 74.42 percent of the total.

Apapa and Ikeja in Lagos contributed N15 billion and N85 billion to the investments respectively, representing a combined 15 percent of the total.

Out of the N180.12 billion invested in the manufacturing and agro-allied industries in Nigeria in the first six months of 2015, N128.3 billion went to Ogun, representing 71.23 percent. Ikeja and Apapa industrial zones got N15.74 billion and N6.98 billion, representing 8.7 percent and 3.9 percent share of the total respectively.

Similarly, manufacturing investments worth N309.33 billion were made in H2 of 2015, out of which N302.26 billion went to Ogun, representing 97.7 percent of the total. Apapa and Ikeja shared the remaining less than three percent with other industrial zones across the country.

In the first half of 2016, total investments estimated at N54.55 billion were made by manufacturers in the country, out of which N37.51 billion moved to Ogun within the period. This means that 69 percent of all investments within H1 of 2016 were channelled to Ogun State. Apapa and Ikeja shared the remaining 31 percent with other industrial zones such as Edo/Delta, Imo/Abia, Oyo/Ondo/Osun/Ekiti, Kano/Sharada/ Challawa, Kano Bompai, Anambra/Enugu, Bauchi/Benue/Plateau, Rivers, Kwara, and Abia.

In the second half of 2016, MAN survey shows that N313.62 billion worth of investments were directed to Ogun out of the total N448.94 billion. This represents 70 percent of the total. Like in the first half, Apapa and Ikeja industrial zones stampeded for the remaining 30 percent investments with other zones. MAN is the largest manufacturing association in West Africa with over 2,000 companies as members....
https://guardian.ng/business-services/industry/nigeria-s-industrial-sector-in-perspective-by-man/

....Performance by industrial zones

The responses received were also analyzed based on industrial zone areas in order to gauge the level of spread and economic activities as affect production, investments and job creation and sustenance. The result however revealed in terms of utilization of capacity. However, Ogun industrial zone, consisting of Otta, Shagamu, Ibese/Ilaro and the newly found area in Mowe/Ibafo axis, returned a higher percentage. This is in view of the high concentration of manufacturing concerns, couple with relocation of some factories from Lagos as well as access to land for the new manufacturing investments.

From the table below, Ogun industrial zone led other zones with about 60 per cent, while it was closely followed by Oyo/Ondo/Osun/Ekiti and Kano (Sharada/Chalawa). The latter, being more populated by small and medium with pockets of large and multinationals are the major companies doing business in these areas.

Coming in the rear is Bauchi/Plateau/Benue with an average of 43.0 per cent, trailing behind Kaduna and Edo/Delta industrial areas with 45.3 per cent and 46.5 per cent were ahead of respectively. The situation in these zones could be understood given the unstable in the political environment which has affected production, sales and other logistics.
https://www.businessdayonline.com/ogun-ikeja-top-manufacturers-investment-destinations-in-2014/

....Ogun State’s represents 78 percent of N483 billion worth of investments made in the whole of the manufacturing sector within the period under review, while Ikeja shares 8.3 percent.

“This has revealed that the majority of manufacturing investments were directed towards Ogun industrial axis, which consists of Otta, Agbara, Ibafo/Mowe and Shagamu industrial areas,” said MAN, in its latest January to July 2014 economic review.

....

The data further show investments in Kano/Sharada/Challawa as N19.75 billion and those of Oyo/Ondo/Osun/Ekiti as N19.2 billion within the period under review.

Anambra/Enugu that had N5.5 billion worth of investments.
while those of Imo/Abia were estimated at N309 million.

oga, forget pictures.

The people of osun are a beautiful people.

I won't want to insult or belittle them in anyway.

But the environment is not something to even discuss.

I have a few pics I took I would love to upload but they're 8mb too big for nairaland.

The only thing osun and south west has on the south east is GOOD FEDERAL ROADS

So relax my man.
F-you and your stvpid analysis. You people have serious inferiority complex issues hence your penchant to always try to run down others to make yourselves feel important, but you have failed woefully this time around. I hate to do this but you guys need to be put in your place from time to time over this foolishness.

And NO we are better than you lots in more areas than 'good federal roads'. All those roads I showed you are state roads built and maintained by the state government of osun.

I already showed you news report that your region is deindustrializing at an insane pace (you glossed over that bit of news as if you didn't see it, yet you are here talking crap about Osun's efforts at industrialization??), while the SW you love to hate is the industrial powerhouse of the entire country, and attra trs most of the FDI that comes into Nigeria, amongst other things. Besides, na una dey rush come our side and not the other way round.

Attached is a picture of the biggest road project (built by the FG) ever carried out in your entire state (perhaps your entire region) with a birdseye skyline/overview of your eyesore of a state. Osun state government is almost about to complete a similar bypass without FG support, yet you are here throwing fits out of envy and jealousy. Better go and receive sense.

Why are you people like this for godsakehuh Dude, your attempt to derail this thread with your signature Anambra inferiority complex and bad-belle inspired attacks against Osun are dead on arrival. Osun has made more strides infrastructurally in the last 7-years than all your SE states combined. And that is a fact. The quality of road projects undertaken by the state government can't be rivaled by anything in your region and that is a fact you can take to the bank. The state govt has almost completed a bypass that your state had to depend on the FG to build. Pictures don't lie, boy.

While I applaud the move as a good one I don't think this is a stride yet.

The whole thing sounds too elaborate to me, How can a single Chinese firm process cocoa, salt, cassava starch and still handle power provision ?

In fact the firm is creating the industrial park most of it. The state govt is merely giving out land. If I go further now it may sound like I am hating on Osun.
Perhaps if you had done some little research you would have realized that this proposed partnership is merely an extension of an already established relationship between the state govt. and the Chinese in question because the Chinese are already successfully managing (in partnership with the state government) the state's 20,000 tons per day Cocoa Processing factory at Ede -- there's actually a thread on it here:

https://www.nairaland.com/3093805/inside-osuns-revived-cocoa-factory

Therefore, what is about to happen is merely an extension/expansion of an already working template, so there's nothing farfetched about it.

My friend go back to history and you will realize that taxing the rich to help the poor never worked in all societies it was applied.

The best way to help the poor is to

1) Create platforms that can enable them to exchange their goods & services for money in order to increase their pockets.

2) Empower them with the knowledge to produce more & diverse goods & services.

So focusing on Taxation to help the poor always backfire.

As for your initial question on how reducing tax can increase revenue, google 2 American Presidents on their tax reforms.

1) Carnegie

2) Reagan.

This is exactly what I mean about boneheaded ignorance.

Go and read what happened b/4 the Nzeogwu coup and why it was welcomed across the country. Who jailed Awolowo? Was it Nzeogwu? Nzeogwu and co actually wanted to free Awo and install him as PM - ask Odia Ofeimun, Awo's secretary. If you think regionalism was working, you probably never heard of the "wild, wild west"! Go and read your history and quit vomiting ignorance here. Awo was de facto vice president and finance minister under Gowon and the so-called unitary system suited him then. Whenever thieving elites are marginalised from their theft, they call for a different structure that would facilitate their stealing.
Dude, just quit embarrassing yourself for once. Can you imainge, you are justifying a coup-de-tat?? Only an INSANE person would venture to justify Nzeogwu's action, which, by the way, ended up triggering a counter-coup (by the same Northerners whom you said applauded it) and a needless civil war that snuffed out the lives of millions of your own brethren. Trying to excuse Nzeogwu's coup is like promoting a military takeover of the entire country over the Jos-Plateau crises, or the Boko-Haram crises in the NorthEast, or OBJ's 3rd term/executive-legislature face-offs. Are you saying that Awo's political problems were worth or were enough reasons to justify the counter-coup and civil war that resulted from the January 1966 coup?? If you blame the coup on the political crisis the Western Region, what about the other regions that were relatively quiet then? Didn't a referendum hold to create the mid-west region to assuage the agitation of minorities then? How many such 'states' or local government creations have so far happened under a 'civilian government'? Is it only Military dictatorship that should be able to create new states and local governments?? Did Yoruba people ask the Military to terminate the regional system of government on their behalf? Receive sense old man!!

You know next to nothing about Nigeria. The people with a born-to-rule mentality are the Fulani oligarchs. In fact, most of the north was conquered by Fulani jihadists. It is ignorant folks like you that associate born-to-rule with the entire north, when the majority there are conquered people. For you info, Nzeogwu's killing of Ahmadu Bello was celebrated in the north.

The last time I checked, it was Yoruba "leaders" like Tinubu, Fashola, etc that enabled Buhari to become president. Now, that Buhari's cabal has marginalised Tinubu and his houseboy Osinbajo, Yoruba crooks like FFK and co are calling for restructuring! If Tinubu got all the ministries he expected, it would be a different story. Why don't they restructure they they have in their private accounts back to the state treasuries where it was looted from?

I have news for you, buddy, but it may be over your ignorant head. There is no such thing as a collective Yoruba aspiration. The aspiration of Yoruba crooks is to steal from their people. Ordinary Yoruba folks are better off uniting with other ordinary Nigerians to stop the stealing. This is b/c Yoruba crooks like Tinubu always unite with crooks from other parts of the country to steal. Do you want me to remind you of what Tinubu said about Buhari in 2003 (agent of destabilisation whose ethnocentrism would jeopardise Nigerian unity) b/4 uniting with him in 2014?

I hate dealing with ignorant Nigerians. Teaching you people is a full time job and I have things to do to pay the bills.
For the last time, you are not a Yoruba man, and therefore have no portion in any matter that concerns us as a people. Face your people's Biafra agitation and leave Yoruba people alone!!! Your opinion on this matter is as good as trash.

The "sermon" is for those with ears. You have ears and have refused to use them.

I only speak for myself and not for my people - unlike the people that gathered at the summit claiming to speak for Yorubas without asking their opinion. The Yoruba people have not spoken anything. What you had was a gathering of the usual suspects claiming to speak for Yorubas. Get that difference through your head.

While the current system may not be working, what they are proposing didn't work b/4. The reason it is not working now or didn't work in the past, is b/c of the corruption of many of those at their brainless summit. They need the ignorance of people like you to be able to peddle their BS.

You may learn something if you take me seriously, instead of taking people like Fayose, FFK, Gbenga Daniel, Olu Falae, etc seriously just b/c they are Yoruba, while they got rich at your expense.
Just shut it. The more you try to make sense, the harder you come off as an ignoramus. You said the system they are proposing didn't work in the past. What stupidity. Was it not Nzeogwu and his blood thirsty gang of coupists and khaki boys that terminated regionalism and imposed their unitary system on the rest of the country? Did they ask the permission of Yorubas and others before terminating regionalism?

You are just a shameless apologist for the status quo and the Northern born-to-rule establishment. When they declared an ultimatum sacking your people from the North (with impunity), you never made this much noise in condemnation of their effrontery, it's implication, and the dangerous precedent their actions and impunity set, but you can dedicate a thread to Yoruba calls for restructuring and a system they feel would best suit their collective aspirations as a people? You are a disgrace, considering your old age. Your opinion is irrelevant anyhow.

1. It isn't the current structure that stole the resources of the states. It is their governors.

2. Your governors like Tinubu, Gbenga Daniel, etc have fed fat on the resources that should have been used to develop their states.

3. The stumbling block to imbalances in the country is the corruption of the people in power in the north, southwest, southeast, Niger Delta and every part of the country. While they are robbing you, you are busy blaming the north. Tinubu is a billionaire and you are blaming the north. Gbenga Daniel, Fayose, Mimiko and co are all stupendously wealthy from looting public funds. That is where the imbalance is - money in their pockets, no money for development.

4. What is best for Yoruba criminal politricksters is to rob their people. It is not what is best for ordinary Yoruba people. That's why they deliberately keep you in ignorance and bamboozle you into thinking that what they want is what you want. A fox and a chicken from the same place don't want the same thing. The fox wants to eat the chicken.
Abeg spare me the sermon. Why are you crying more than the bereaved? If you and your people are fine with the current system then that is your business. The Yoruba people have spoken and taken a firm position through yesterday's meeting, and so far the support for the deliberations and declaration at the end of the gathering within the region has been unanimous therefore your silly talk is inconsequential. You should be attacking the current structure that warrants states having to surrender their resources to Abuja before it's then redistributed based on a formula that favours unproductive states with higher number of local governments than those from where the resources are being mined. Abuja isn't producing anything yet it enjoys better infrastructure than others because it is feeding fat on the resources of others. The rest of the country has to be dragged backwards because some are trying to play catch up. You, OP, are a dishonest individual. You know that the North has consistently proved to be a stumbling block to the efforts to address these imbalances, yet you are attacking Yorubas for expressing their preference for a system they feel would address these and secure a better future for their people. You as an igbo man can't claim to know what is best for the Yorubas than Yorubas themselves.

You are correct. Though I think the confused ones amongst them are actually Fulanis who have become 'Yorubanized' and even adopted Yoruba names. The Fulas employed the same strategy of using religion as a weapon of conquest against the Hausa states as well. But unlike the Hausas who allowed their culture and kingship system to be largely supplanted by religion and the emirate system (minus their language), the real Yorubas of Ilorin are still largely 'Yorubaphilic'. I think Oyo state is just too big (it's by far the largest single state in southern Nigeria, which is a big headache in terms of administration owing to such a huge landmass) and therefore should be broken up into two or three separate states for more efficient administration. Oke Ogun section is probably bigger than Osun and Ekiti combined, while Ibadan landmass alone is just as much Lagos'.

By now Ibadan ought to be a standalone state on its own. Should Nigeria be restructured along regional lines, the Western region would be free to address this sort of issues.

In your world, stating facts is bitterness.

And who is comparing 2 years with 8 years?

I said Fashola did more in his first 2 years than ambode in his first 2 years eve though Ambode's budget is 2 x more than Fashola's budget.

I'm not interested in your emotions and sentiments, bring facts to counter me with or move on with your emotions and sentiments.
You obviously have mad issues. Your headache, not mine. undecided

Fashola's work goes beyond overhead bridge and basic roads which so far is Ambode's preoccupation which is very basic and non ground breaking per Lagos standard, but no governor in Nigeria past or present can overtake Fashola's achievements because his body of work was very comprehensive and across the board.
Bro, chillax lest you allow bitterness get the better of you. In my opinion, you're insulting BRF by comparing his 8-year tenure to a merely 2-year old Ambode administration. Government is a continuum, and it's not a must that Ambode's focus must be on exactly what his predecessor did. He's entitled to his own style of governance. Besides, there's a blueprint for development that's guiding their administrative decisions. I urge you for the sake of peace not to give the enemies of the state ammunition to start taking needless shots at both great men.

What fuckery is this? Why can't the government just allocate a couple of hectares of free land to these people to help ease their resettlement? Whatever happened to being your brother's keeper? Lubbish and Nonsense.

A 'reliable source' told me he tried yahoo-yahoo without much success before later becoming a gigolo. Playing 'sugar boy' didn't work out either so he tried Radio Biafra and.. you know the rest.
