The problem here isn't the West but your lamentable understanding of economics.
The same economics the west has been pushing down our throats that has ensured there is abject poverty in the midst of plenty, your Breton woods economists have failed and you are here glorifying them.... Or how else would you describe the sorry state Nigeria is in Mr economist, voodoo economics ala Ngozi okonjo iweala where we have the biggest economy in Africa yet 70% youths are unemployed,
You guys don't get it, there has to be redistribution of wealth and resources, the poor has to have policies that will alleviate their poverty.

And where are these socialist countries today? Or where is North Korea today?

Stop saying West. If the West tells that 1 + 1 = 2 would you say it is wrong because it's from them. What they are saying is the economic equivalent of 1 + 1=2! Nigerian economist too condemn the economic policies of this government. Soludo, Utomi and Sanusi have all condemned these policies too.

The sentence in bold is all the evidence required to show that you are utterly ignorant, and too lazy to do basic research to boot. Clearly you've never heard of the Great Leap Forward (with the attendant deaths of 15 to 30 million Chinese), the Cultural Revolution, or the free-market reforms of Deng Xiaoping, otherwise you wouldn't be spouting such utter nonsense. It is your much beloved socialism that is to blame for why Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong, which are populated by the same Chinese people as the PRC, are so much wealthier than their mainland counterparts. Meanwhile, that Cuban 98% literacy rate no doubt explains why so many of them are desperate to flee for the United States!

I haven't bothered to write the rebuttal above for your benefit, as it is abundantly clear that you are ineducable in your ignorance, but for the benefit of others who might be tempted to take your ridiculous rantings even the slightest bit seriously. Socialism has never worked anywhere it has been tried, and only people of low-IQ like Buhari and yourself continue to believe in a failed ideology even the Russian and Chinese elites abandoned more than 30 years ago.
It's obvious you are ignorant and you've read a lot of capitalist propaganda and lies ONLINE and has twisted your brains , all these couples with hatred for Buhari has made any academic (real academic and not google academic) argument with you an exercise in futility.
The choice is yours

Hmmm you need more lessons on socialism. Socialism evolves in the womb of capitalism. When all factors of production is working optimally we will now have economic prosperity. Prices of goods and services will go down because of healthy competition. In Nigeria reverse is the case. We always put the cart before the Ox as a nation. In Advance climes economic blue print is followed meticulously to a logical conclusion with alot of positives churned out for the economic good of all.
Mr lecturer Nigeria is NOT a socialist nation. On paper we practice mixed system one of the reasons we don't really have a direction, we have to be both
PoliticsRe: Buhari Runs A Govt With No Direction – Financial Times by Rolings: 11:03am On Mar 09, 2019
omohayek:
Yes, Buhari is indeed implementing socialist policies. The problem is that examples of said policies ever having worked are hard to find. Please, go ahead and point out a single country which has risen to first-world status through the adoption of socialism. Are socialist utopias like North Korea, Cuba or Venezuela worthy of emulation in your eyes? Or would you rather live in capitalist hell-holes like South Korea, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong, loved as they are by the FT?

It amuses me that you think you actually made an argument in Buhari's favor, instead of damning the old coupist by showing up his poor judgement.
I'm amused you conveniently left out China , that's because even you know China is a country that has risen to first world through adoption of socialism.
socialism eventually leads to capitalism as China has shown but by then the vast majority of the population will be in control of the capital and not select few.
Unlike Capitalism , socialism has few failures actually North Korea is the only failure among socialist nations. Cuba has 98% literacy rates and one of the best health systems in the world .Capitalism has not ensured prosperity for majority of people in Africa Asia and Latin America so capitalism is not always the best.
The next four years aptly tagged next level will reveal the extent of impact these policies will have and maybe in four years time FT will write on and even glorify these policies.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Runs A Govt With No Direction – Financial Times by Rolings: 10:34am On Mar 09, 2019
omohayek:
As for the actual substance of the FT article, which is actually to be found here, it is only stating what I, grandstar and a few other people have been saying on Nairaland for the last 4 years: Buhari's ignorance of economics and unwillingness to heed expert advice on the subject has left the Nigerian economy rudderless and underperforming. As for Buhari's "anti corruption" initiatives, they stand no chance of making any lasting impact as long as they are widely perceived to be partisan attacks, and as long as they fail to address the underlying issues which incentivize corruption in the first place, e.g. protectionism, a hugely bloated civil service, over-regulation, too many public sector parastatals, etc. This is a point I've been stressing for years now, and the FT is hardly being going out on a limb by saying as much.

Buhari's simple-minded policies are well placed to appeal to the large numbers of equally simple-minded, poorly educated people who voted for him, but their only lasting impact in the long-run will have been to depress the Nigerian economy's growth rate below its maximum for nearly a decade. In terms of opportunity-costs, we are talking hundreds of billions of US$ forgone because a sick 78-year old man refuses to accept that he isn't the best person to be setting exchange rates or import policies.
Wrong.
Buhari has and is implementing Socialist policies as opposed to Capitalist free market policies which the west wants him to implement, those dregs of the society belongs to the society too and are in the majority, policies that will ensure they are lifted out of poverty and deprivation are bad news to the likes of FT.

What I would like to know is the method they used in verifying the man's _genitalia was missing. Did the mob that killed this innocent woman even look to see if his _genitalia was really missing? This is what annoys me with Nigerians in general, highly educated but still myopic in reasoning and logic. When a person loses his _penis, is there an open wound in place and shouldn't there be blood gushing out? Or does it just fade away into thin air without any trace? An innocent woman was killed wrongly by blood thirsty bystanders, but we should never forget that in 1994 Rashidi Yekini became the first Nigerian player to score in the world cup tournament where we defeated Bulgaria 3-0.

The east is actually one of the most densely populated regions in this country. Igbo's are in fact one of the most hospitable ethnic groups in the country.

This is why the average igbo person can migrate freely to any part of the WORLD (not just Lagos), establish himself and still stay in touch with his/her homeland.

But hopeless bigots like you are unaware of the amazing Igbo traits and their stranger-friendly cultures largely because you hardly leave your enclave. To you, life begins and ends in your state.

Ibos are not found all over the world because they are hospitable but because there is actually nothing for the average iboman in iboland. Let me explain something to us.

No President can emerge in NIGERIA without having at list 25% in Fct..... I repeat atlist 25% in Fct..... Forget about other votes, the rule is have atlist 25% in Abuja first then others comes in..... With d look of things is like the PDP has more than 76% in Abuja....h. Which isn't good for the Apc. CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Section 134 (2) states that “A candidate for an election to the office of President shall be deemed to have been duly elected where, there been more than two candidates for the election- (a) he has the highest number of votes cast at the election; and (b) he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election each of at least two- thirds of all the states in Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Just analysing FACTS
(b) he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election each of at least two- thirds of all the states in Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja

Means 2/3rd of 37 states, not necessarily that you must win fct

CallofDuty:
The Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa has asked the Federal High Court Abuja to disqualify the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, from contesting the February 16 presidential election.

The group wants Atiku disqualified over alleged circumstances surrounding his citizenship.

The suit, which was filed on behalf of the group by Mr. Kayode Ajulo, is seeking an interpretation of Sections 25(1) & (2) and 131(a) of the 1999 Constitution.

The group named the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as defendants in the suit.

It also wants the court to determine, “Whether Section 25 of the Constitution is the sole authority that spells out ways by which a person can become a Nigerian citizen by birth.

“Whether by the provisions of Section 131(a) of the Constitution, only a Nigerian citizen by birth can contest for the office of president.

“Whether by the combined interpretation of Sections 25(1) & (2) and 131(a) of the Constitution and given the circumstances surrounding the birth of Mr. Atiku, he can be cleared by PDP and INEC to contest for office of the president.”

The plaintiff, in the suit, said that if the court resolves the issues in its favour, it should declare that by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, only a Nigerian citizen by birth could contest for president.

“A declaration that by the combined interpretation of Sections 25(l) & (2) and 131(a) of the Constitution and given the circumstances surrounding Atiku’s birth, he cannot be cleared by PDP and INEC to contest for president.”

In an affidavit deposed to by one Michael Okejimi, a legal practitioner in the law firm of Ajulo, the deponent averred that Atiku was born on November 25, 1946.

“That from Atiku’s own testimony that is gazetted and published in most national dailies in circulation, he is from Jada town in Adamawa and Jada used to be in Ganye Local Government Area in Adamawa.

“That Ganye is regarded as the mother of the whole Chamba tribe and was never part of Nigeria legally as at the date of birth of Atiku.

“That none of Atiku’s parents or grandparents was born in Nigeria and his father died a citizen of Northern Cameroon in 1957 prior to the referendum of June 1, 1961 that made Northern Cameroon a part of Nigeria.

The suit has, however, not been assigned to a judge.
