Thanks for your response. I wasn't expecting him to charge for giving a quotation. Yes, giving something in appreciation is a good gesture which I don't mind.

You didn’t get “akin4sure” right, you asked for estimate of materials NOT quotation as contractor.
So the man charged you as QS to give estimate for the materials etc (bill of quantity) Not as a contractor biding for work.

Let’s tell ourselves the truth, this is the reason why you needs to consult professional to handle your project. “Do it your self” can not give you 100pec results in all aspect of construction work.

This a poor job.
1- The foundation earth filling is not well compacted.
2- poor concrete mix-ratio.
3- The concrete thickness here is not more than75mm

If I said both wood are in same class I know what I means bcs so many things area involved
- durability
- resistance to fungi, termites etc
-many area of usage in construction work
- available
-cost
- fire resistance to certain time.
And many more.
if you do your research you will agree with me that both of them are in the same class.

The best material to use is upvc thick pipe btw 5mm-8mm thick will do the job
