woodsbeatrice30: Thanks for the explanation..so you advise me to go for the black one?It is to be done just in the living room..some replies I got were saying otherwise..just want to compare different advises and opinion and know that which is the best..Thank you Don’t get it wrong black cement is main for outside wall finishings due to the weather and rain. White pop cement with others mixture is main for indoor work where RAIN or water will not come in contact with it So in one word use white pop cement for the work since it’s inner part of the building |

jamepatrick: I would like to start building my house next month but the problem is the weather as we all know it's raining season. The builder advised me to go ahead with the project irrespective of the weather that he's got it covered.
Do you guys think this is really possible I mean building a house(From foundation level) during this raining season? It rains almost every day in my area. Won't the cement wash out or lead to a poor foundation?
Please advise as I'm not too sure here if the guy is just looking to get paid. The truth is that it will slow down the job like 30-50 pec. But if you don’t start now the money can follow another thing oo God forbid. Your builder is also checking this too |

megacontrol: Thanks for your response. And yes, this work you posted is done well and that's the kind of finish we will be hoping for.
Concerning materials, on our side we will try to source your recommended type/nature of sand, even if it means going out of the way and/or paying a premium. Infact, we have received two different batches of plaster sand for trials to compare the results. So that brings us to the next question...since you mentioned that workmanship is the other key factor,do you still have the same set of guys in your team or on call-out? How consistent can this be achieved? Being a past job,how certain we can get same in future (job is about one month away)?
This is a very good job, and if we can have anything close to this we will be happy. You'll sure be getting a follow up. The grey colour plaster sand is available in few part of Lagos and some part of Ogun state. My teams workers are always available sir. We are ready to give you the same finishing here or more than this pics I posted here. |

A popular nairaland in the property section is on the run with my money without delivering his own part of the deal as he has gone under.
I will brief the house in details on this later. Thanks so much for checking our thread. But the issue of the said contractor is serious oo why. |

megacontrol: Hello people,
We all see different types of finish for plastering jobs. some very smooth looking close to a semi-screeded wall, others not so good. there's also major differences in the final color after the job.
My question is what is the single most important factor to get that light color finish that leaves it looking just like a a pure wet cement? Is it the plaster sand, cement type/brand, workman competency/proficiency, a combination or something else completely?
I'm asking for an upcoming job which is very important but no plans to paint for a while since the location isn't quite ready for occupancy, so it will be left for a while post-plastering. It is my opinion that I wouldn't be so particular if I planned to screed and and paint immediately cos those easily cover up a lot of poor plastering jobs.
I'll like to have a very nice external plastering finish while we leave the building standing for a long time.
Looking forward to read your thoughts on this one... Thanks Two thing contributed to the final finishing of the plastering/rendering. 1. Level of workmanship 2. Nature of material ( sand) 1. To get well smooth surface level of workmanship determines this in most cases. 2. Nature of the sand used will determine the final look of the plaster when dry up, some plaster sand are yellowish in nature and no mater what you do the final look will still look yellowish. Some plaster sand also are grey in nature this will looks like cement colour after it drys up even in wet form you will notice it. Here are few pics of what I did in the past and presently

The tiler will fill it up ones there is adequate cement mixed with the sand, the tiles can not break, the only issue there now is that if you have wooden door frame already installed it will reduced the standard height of the door size. |

Sorry but why don’t you feel comfortable with your builder (a professional) haaa, unless may be he is not what you called him. |

Nbg4real: good afternoon please how many is five inches ok between door and area to ne tile i mean the floor. my interior doors (American panel doors) are5 inchs above the ground, is it ok pls? Based on experience the 5” space (threshold) is too much. 3” is ok before tiling. Take your level from the main entrance door to the other part of the building to have same level all round. |
