Thankfully, i was spared the agony of watching the whole of that game. . . only watched the last 4-5 minutes and from the moment i located the match on my t.v, first thot that came to my mind was "why so much space on the fieldhuh Is abuja stadium pitch much bigger than wembley or rosariohuh"

It was as if naija had only six players on the field and the pace was so sluggish - "kanu, yobo, mikel, nsofor. . . these guys can't be fasting" i thot to myself.

Lets even over-look all the other technical deficiencies. . . . Ex-super eagle Tijani Babangida who was on AIT to analyse the game surmised it quite succinctly; it is absolutely appalling that the eagles couldn't keep possession the ball, control the tempo and ultimately kill-off a game in which they had the upper-hand; whats more infuriating is that they only had to do this for 5 or 6 MINUTES kpe're!

I hope the eagles don't make it to SA - they don't deserve to!

Dayo,

u must be kidding me. . . . . . u should'a seen kaladze's face all through; it was sheer horror - the old man must'a been bleeding in his heart, when that second OG went in, you could see the anguish in his face. I feel so sorry for him - its just an unfortunate twist of fate.

This is a much "european-like" Brazil. . . . very rugged, very resilient and by God, Fabiano is on fire, how he is still with Sevilla is a mystery!?

The Argies have 'emselves to blame after pulling 1 back they should'a slowed it down a bit and taken a break before going for all-out attack.

They really need Riquelme in that team. . . . Maradona should stuff his pride and get him back in the squad. Lets face it, Riquelme is to Argentina today, what Maradona was in the 80's.
Along with the ability to keep and pass the ball, Riquelme gives an air of composure and assuredness to the side; and he commands the respect of the bunch which makes him all the more influential.
Last night the argies lacked that composure when they really needed it the most and there was no leader to take charge.
Juan Veron was just an absolute waste!
Rio to spain? That can never happen, there are some certain players that i believe they can never leave OT for any club. They wil remain a red devil for life, players like RIO, ROONEY, CARRICK, BROWN, EVRA( i'm havin lil doubt cuz he's best 3 in d world for now), FLETCHER, GIBSON.
the highlighted fellas i can vouch for. . . . they have UTD flowing in their veins!
As for Brown, he might be tempted to exit OT for want of more 1st team action; Evra, well. . . . expect suitors to come knocking on the door sooner rather than later.

Juve certainly look impressive but i don't think we should write Milan off just yet, the team is going thru a phase of restructuring and i think Leo can pull it off - i do think Milan really to use Inzaghi more often - they need his experience more than ever now; yes he might be aging fast but the baba always knows the shortest route to a goal anytime, anyday. . . 'em young lads are not just doing it!

Much as i hate to admit Inter Jose Mourinho tutored. . . . yuuuck sad now with Eto'o, Sneijder, Milito look very menacing indeed and it's hard to deny that they do stand a massive chance of getting the scudetto again.

If the other sides can maintain a high level of consistency; then Inter might just be made to rue their opening day draw.

dayokanu:
The Italians are at it again.

How do you explain that Kakha Kaladze the captain of Georgia scored 2 own goals when Georgia played Italy.

Think about it, Kaladze plays his professional soccer in Italy for AC Milan, so he should just apply for Italian citizenship

CONSPIRACY THEORIES CONTINUED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watched a bit of that game and I don't think the conspiracy theory thing holds - the second OG was purely accidental; the ball was whipped in with a lot of pace and it hit him on the, coulda gone anywhere, so unfortunate for him that it went back into his own net!

I was quite impressed by the Georgians - they played some neat football.

Every time i watch a game in 1 of these other ligues or even less popular ligues like in Russia or the MLS, i ask myself "why is it widely publicized that the EPL is the best huh"

I mean, the football in some of these ligues is excellent, absolutely top-drawer. . . . so why so much fuss about the EPL huh

I still much believe that the standard of football in the EPL is way below what is obtained in most of these other ligues. . . forget what the stats say and see what the folks play!

On the real. . . that was a very close call against Arsenal; hope Baba doesn't repeat that against Spurs. No use being overly-cautious, its like an inducement for the opposition; we have to seize the gauntlet and take the game to the opposition - at a point i feared that Arsenal game was going the same as the Burnley game because we showed 'em a little too much respect!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Banned From Buying New Players Till January 2011 by RuuDie(m): 3:36pm On Sep 05, 2009
Chelsea's appeal against a FIFA transfer ban could land them in even hotter water with reports that they poached an 11-year-old from another French team.
The Blues were slapped with a two-window signings ban for allegedly inducing Gael Kakuta to illegally tear up his Lens contract, and cannot register new players until January 2011.

They reacted angrily, saying they would appeal, but The Guardian reported that amateur side ASPTT Marseille are considering taking their case to FIFA over Jeremy Boga, who they claim was induced to join Chelsea by offering his parents a house and car in London.

"The three big clubs in France wanted him: Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille," ASPTT chairman Robert Caturegli said. "But Chelsea took the whole family, the mum and the two brothers, and put them in a house in Wimbledon.

"The mum has a car to take the kids to school and to training and whatever.

"We're just a youth development club. He didn't have a contract so we felt we couldn't go to FIFA."

And herein lies the problem for ASPTT - they did not have a contract. Chelsea did not require international clearance either, as it is not mandatory for U12s.

Furthermore, it is understood that after the parents initially split up, the father moved to London anyway, and the move was part of a wider reconciliation between the Boga family.

Whatever the conclusion, the bad smell of (the pictured) Frank Arnesen's transfer dealing just will not go away

United, meanwhile, could be out of trouble regarding their controversial signing of Paul Pogba from Le Havre after it emerged the contract he signed was different to that which led FIFA to ban Chelsea over the Kakuta affair.

Kakuta apparently signed a binding youth-team contract, while Pogba's parents penned a 'bridging agreement', designed to ward-off bigger French clubs such as Lyon and Marseille from robbing their academy.

The Independent claim this is only valid in France and not FIFA-registered.

There is also the quite hilarious proposal that, if they are in the right, United could take Le Havre to FIFA for not releasing the player's registration because, as it stands, he cannot turn out for the English side until this is obtained.

They are all coming out of the woodwork now too - apparently Fiorentina want a piece of the English football pie, claiming that Michael Forsenier was obtained illegally.

However, the 16-year-old did not have a contract, so there is no case to answer.

Something a lot of pundits and clubs seem to be missing is that the Kakuta case is not a simple question of a big club taking a young player from abroad - it is a question of the legally-binding nature of signed contracts: no contract, no problem.

True. . . . but as long as na african boy; one can never be so sure!

Anyways, it was a big relief that win against Arsenal - pls SAF should just stick to the 4-4-2 thing and only change when things are not going well, that team that he sent out was complete shambles. . . . Thank God we eventually won it, we really didn't deserve to.

well. . . i think people should stop castigating FIFA / UEFA for certain decisions because it affects their clubs; lets face it, a lot of this decisions make sense and are really very necessary if we have to ensure that our darling sport doesn't go the way of some other "failed" sports.

If Chelsea are indeed guilty; then the sanction is in order - same for the Edouardo case. . . Please we need to cut the governing bodies some slack.
