Samrobo - I see you've been on Kenya video like white on rice - here is another one - showing you why Nairobi has been voted the 4th most dynamic city in the World and 11th best place to live in by experts.
obaaderemi: Thank you for this exposé, brother. I can see it destabilized the little indians. They've been quiet for a while now. But trust them to come back with a vengeance.
But then, this is what we have said for years, Kenya is little beyond Nairobi. What you see displayed by kenyans is just a shiny façade hiding a mud and rotting structure behind it. Whereas countries like Nigeria have open forums where they discuss their problems, Kenya hides its own problems behind fake figures and content with what's going on.
There's no way you can compare Kenya with Ghana or Nigeria. They admitted Ghana was better than Kenya on the other thread. I don't know why the Ghanaians are still arguing with them. If I were a Ghanaian I would just dig out such posts and fling it at them anytime they write nonsense.
Nigeria has got serious problems that look so intractable. At times I wonder how we got here but I look at the structure and especially our northern problem and make a kind of meaning out of it all.
But I just can't make any meaning out of Kenya's myriad of problems. They're small and so indebted. They have more than enough land mass for their population yet the slums keep growing. They have land yet starve. They're relatively peaceful yet the economy remains so small. And I don't understand how the kenyattas have been able to pocket the country for so long.
But to be honest, I like the longsuffering contentment of the masses of Kenya. They hardly talk I'll of their country. And I like what the Europeans have done with wildlife and nature in Kenya and East Africa. Lastly I also like what they've done with power supply. At least they ensure Nairobi has a good supply. But Kenya can be a lot better if the people are more daring.
Stargate254: While I was reading the comments about Kipevu Terminal, I can't find the exact comment but someone said that Kipevu can only handle small vessels of 200m because it has a quay length of 770m... (Probably took 770/4 vessels at a time), This is inaccurate.. If the old Terminal could handle 300m tankers, you think a new, more modern terminal would be anything less?
FYI, The Terminal is 770m long yes, but its double sided, that means the quay length is 1540m!, that means, any berth can easily accommodate a 400m tanker!
pic1. The artistic impression of the offshore Terminal, As you can see, ships dock on both sides of the 770m long terminal. pic2: Wide angle of the port Area (With Kipevu Terminal offshore at the bottom) pic3: The actual distance of the terminal as measured by googlemaps. pic4: Gives you a sense of the scale of the terminal.
More aptly burning money approach. Look at Kenya - I was client of that bank (TNB) - because my friend works there as branch manager - and almost all customers were either Kalenjin (my tribe) or somalis (big money launderers too).My late father was also a customer. This was Moi's personal bank - and these small banks in Kenya used for money laundering corrupt proceeds - and now you paid Moi and company - 2B kshs (20M dollars) - and then Moi withdrew his business from that bank - and Kalenjin like me - we withdrew - and it's dies. You will never make profit in kenya.
68816419: Ok, the approach is called market penetration approach, just within the last 4 months, Access bank bought old banks accros all regions in Africa, in Kenya, Zambia, Bostwana and South Africa.
kikuyu2: I DON'T do feminine exchanges,my dude! I discuss empirical evidence, usually with intellectual peers. Tell me why and how Lebanese build 2 mn $ mansions back home in an economy with a mere 1100$ per capita GDP according to Prof Falade and why they along with the likes of Stallion own so much of your economy.
68816419: they have been in Nigeria for ages, but they still couldn't penetrate the top 100 richest people in Nigeria....
It can only mean they repatriate all their money while in Kenya they happy to live here as citizens.Folks need to distinguish a good foreigner and a bad one.. Indian investor is good..a Nigeria drug dealer is bad..it doesn't matter the colour... colonialist white supremacist sitting on Africa land is bad but white volunteer helping fighting poverty is good.. countries that are progressing try to attract good immigrants and keep the bad ones out.. doesn't matter their races...
What would be the point? I have no problem with indians working for you. It's you who has a problem when they work for kenya. Maybe it's envy?
68816419: Can you please provide evidence to your claim, at Least you even have 2 Indians up their , you won't find a single Indian in BUA, most of the Indians at Dangote or even BUA are just factory workers. And reason we employ them is for the fact that they damn too cheap and can settle for any amount.
Almost their entire cities are slums - just a few islands - but rest is proper mixture of a slum next to office next to church next to an apartment next cattle kraal.
Shma: Wrong. Get your facts right. The percentage of people in Nairobi living in slums is a mere 36.
Import substitution in Africa failed like it's failing in Nigeria - because you're buying cement at 3 times...imports would be even much cheaper...maybe 4 times cheaper.
Infant industry protection is hard to pull in a corrupt country like Nigeria - and it has to be done for a short time. Few Asian countries managed to pull it - it takes discipline, strictness and has to be done for a very shortwhile - because an infant cannot grow forever- at expense of everyone - you kill it
Now you 1) import restriction, 2) arbitrage- selling dollars to dangote at almost half the black market rate, giving him cheap loans - and the results inflation double digit every year - many nigerians have been driving into deep poverty - while a few dangotes are becoming billionaires.
Last I checked you were 100M poor - that is a lot of poor people
For local production or manufacturing to make sense - the prices must be competitive enough with international prices - otherwise you're almost forcing nigerian to prop your few elites.
GeneralDae: Import restriction is not a bad thing. Especially when we had no reason to be second largest importer of cement in the world.
What does the colour of owners matters. What matters is me buying cement at 450 and you at 1200. Bring me more indians, chinese and even aliens from another planet...and keep your dangote.
Apart from a foolish pride that a fellow black Nigerian is billionaire - how do you BENEFIT? Maybe you have low self esteem - but people sucess will never fill the void.
GeneralDae: How many Indians do you think are in Dangote cement and refinery? Besides Dangote refinery has 29000 Nigerians. Your country Kenya has Indians as owners of your major businesses. That's a tragedy .
That is food distribution crew for you beggars...they do HR and CSR Otherwise all executive positions in all his companies are held by Indians and Whites.
Obasanjo made him a billionaire - through import restrictions and arbitrage - and anti-market practises. He will never impress anybody. If he was impressive Harvard Business School would study him
GeneralDae: Salt, Cement, Flour,Rice. However cement made him a billionare. You can see that you are becoming a laughing stock here. Just admit you were ignorant and we move on . This is not the first time.
Dangote Sugar - run by an Indian -RAVINDRA SINGH SINGHVI GROUP MANAGING DIRECTOR/CEO Dangote Cement - run by an indian Dangote Refinery - run by an indian Dangote Jet - probably driven by an indian. Dangote Food Aid distribution to Almajiris of KANO city like you - Dangote Sons and Daughters.
GeneralDae: Employed some of his Indian friends for the refinery (not all his businesses), because as he said, the Indian guy was his employee since 1992 and they both took their time, first to study the pattern of refinery in India and replicate thesame until the idea to build something bigger evolved in Dangote's mind.
Let me try again. Dangote a salt merchant has employed thousands of Indians in his companies - running all critical operations - except the dishing out of almas to Almajiris like you- that he does with his kids.
GeneralDae: Sorry, there are a few top Indian leaders who worked with Dangote since 1992, but entire operation is not run by Indians, try again.
Normally you write shamefully nonsense in your miserable life as an online troll. I am ready always to have intellectual debate. Improve and we can debate soberly
chrisooblog: You won't normally dignify because you have no retort to what I said.
Everything I stated is facts while everything you state are half-truths and fantasies powered by jealousy and lack of self confidence.
Wrong. Kenya annual cement consumption now is about 8M. Nigeria is 18-21M. Dont confuse INSTALLED CAPACITY with what is produced and consumed.
68816419: U aint intelligent at all, our cement consumption and production is 17 times larger and bigger than yours, Kenya Cement producers recorded a 28% year-on-year increase in production in the first five months of 2021 to 3.35Mt from 2.65Mt while Nigeria Local cement production was 47.8 million tonnes now hit 53.8mtpa by 2021
We worship HARDWORK and ENTERPRISE. We do not worship black color. If you come to Kenya expecting to be treated better than Indians or Whites - please behave better than them.
Only in Nigeria would you respect someone selling cement three times the average in Africa.
We have elected 5 Kenyan Indian MPS - Kenya Asian is now a Kenya tribe - they were elected because they campaigned and worked for the people.
We cannot eat you black colour.
GeneralDae: Now you are worshipping your Indian lord . No wonder you guys are called little indians . Even that black American lady on Youtube confirmed it and the kenyans were mad at her in the comment section .
Selling salt and sugar cannot make you rich. What make you rich is bribing politicians in Abuja to enact policies that block imports - and allow a few connected people to import. Then you approach CBN and buy dollars - nobody else can afford to buy dollars at your sweatheart rate. Then eventually you start your own silly company that produce locally and sell useless cement for 3 times the price.
In normal countries people get rich in tech and such industries - not in selling cement, salt and sugar.
Or you think Dangote discovered cement
GeneralDae: The list I showed you has only two Northerners in it. So that conspiracy theory you just reiterated is Hogwash. Besides, the Northerners may be the poorest but the Kano people (where both Dangote and BUA come from) have always being business people and they are the closest from the North to the Igbo character in terms of business acumen. Dangote's Dantata family was also the richest in West Africa as a trader in the 1950's. Dangote started trading way back in 1977.
I would not normally dignify such nonsense with a response but hey Nigeria is WORLD POVERTY CAPITAL having overtaken India...now with 100M poor people. That is like entire East Africa.
chrisooblog: Yours is a classic case of looking to remove a speck in someone's eye while you have a log in yours.
Your country is unproductive, your trade imbalance speaks for itself.
You barely have enough money that's why you borrow so much that it's almost 70% of your GDP.
You can't feed yourselves that's why you rely on food aid yearly, while stupidly beating your chest that you use your little available land for flowers.
Boast about skyscrapers while you have some of the largest slums in the world.
Nigeria is the poverty capital yet we feed ourselves.
Poverty capital but biggest GDP on the continent.
Biggest tech sector on the continent.
This poverty capital invests in your housing sector, bought your banks and IT hub. Sponsors your football league, builds your roads and you're not ashamed?
Instead of wasting your productive years being a troll on a Nigerian owned platform your ''intellect'' to engage in more useful ventures like solving your country's numerous problems instead of acting like a sex starved Viewer poking his nose into his neighbors business.
What difference does it make. Do you think Dangote will give your a ride on his private jet because you're black...or he will give his Indian executives. The entire Dangote operation is run by Indians.
Give me an ethical indian like Chandaria ANY DAY ANY TIME.
Chandaria basically run you steel industry and you wont even know it because he is humble
68816419: its better i get milked by fellow black than a Muhinidi
Ever heard of oligopoly. That means a group of Hausa billionaires decide rather than competing and bringing down the prices - they connive and jack the prices. That is Nigeria.
Free market economy need serious regulations. Nigeria federal gov is under captured by few northern elites.
You should ask yourself why cement is very expensive in Nigeria than in Kenya or elsewhere? You will then understand what monopolistic and oligopolistic tendencies do to market economy - and make it worse than even communism.
Look at Nigeria. 10 billionaires (USD) and 100M beggars - almajiri kids all over the north - the city of KANO look like hell hole. For every billionaire - there should be a thousand millionaires - and even millions of folks getting lifted out of poverty.
GeneralDae: The bolded is false. I have given you proof to show that his prices are not so different from that of his competitors in Nigeria. I am giving you proof, you give me proof not sentiments or beer parlour news you got from tribalistic Nigerians.
That almost 4,000 naira = 1,200 = almost 3 times Kenya - where cement prices start from 480 to 550. Youre become a country of 10 billionaire and 200 million beggars.
Why would the cost of producing cement be that different? You have natural gas and Dangote get it for free?
Dangote using anti-market practices does he things - he crushes the opponents - then jack the prices. He controls 60 percent of cement market in Nigeria.
In kenya we have Competition Authority that will not allow such practices. That is why HE CAN NEVER COME TO KENYA.
But before you even get there - deal with serious issues in your messed up economy where a few enjoy advantage of arbitrage and import restriction
That is how an IDIOT LIKE DANGOTE WHO WAS RECENTLY HAWKING SALT AND SUGAR IS NOW A BILLIONAIRE.
GeneralDae: That's not because of monopoly but the cost of production in Nigeria. You can see their prices are all high not just Dangote.
As you lift one billionaire every year; how many Nigerian are escaping out poverty. Forget that. How many are sinking deeper into poverty. Millions. Officially there are at least 100 million extremely poor Nigerians.
chrisooblog: Alhaji Rabiu is really giving Dangote a run for his money literally and figuratively. He recently signed a deal with the French govt to build a refinery in Akwa Ibom I think.
What you said about the politics being behind most of the bad press Dangote gets is true. Funny enough most of his detractors had no issues with him when OBJ and GEJ where in charge. I not an expert about the goings on in the cement industry but someone who helped stop your country being an import dependent one when it comes to cement deserves commendation. At least companies like Lafarge have been on ground before Dangote ventured into cement business why didn't they think of expanding instead of largely relying on imports?
Don't be surprised when his refinery is up and running and he's enjoying the profits of his investment they will accuse him of monopoly even though a lot of them were given licenses to refine crude years ago.
Buhari has many faults but one good I've seen is if you're a large scale Nigerian business trying to expand they give you the necessary backing whether through monetary policy, government policy like border closure and encouraging local substitute for imported raw materials.
Okay I think I have to log off this forum forever My daughter just told me the last part of my statement is bad - I should remove it. Why? You're being mean to the Nigerians
You're the fool buying cement at three times and any other commodity - inflation is ever triple digit almost - while in Kenya inflation has been single digit - while praising a few billionaire.
The most important list - 200M Nigerians are POOR - Nigeria has the most poorest people in planet earth
68816419: leave this fool to keep wallowing, I guess he only knows Dangote and BUA
That is why Equity bank is now permanent part of Harvard Case Studies.
kikuyu2: If ONLY these Okadamen were literate enough to see what we see ! Idk the past time I saw any large biz balance sheets even a third of that figure. Even 8% is cause for celebration in the West: the senior VPs in US banks would get 7 figure bonuses easily.
