Nairobi if you include the metro is nearly clocking 10m...so if you exclude the two well known slumpolis of Kinshasa and Lagos...it will be amongst biggest cities in Africa together with Cairo. gallivant: |
Look like you're all over the map. Here is Nairobi metro. Nairobi as city already host 4.5m people - if you include the metro - counties of Kajiado, Kiambu and Machakos - we are talking 10M. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7eA2ftgJzg samorobo: |
When they include South Africa - you know they are not serious. Nigeria is the next Venezuela. obaaderemi: |

Obaboon, Obaboon. Nigeria has defaulted I think 5 times. Ghana the same. Tunisia maybe once like Tanzania. Kenya NEVER ever. Kenya has NEVER ever had any of it's loan forgiven. My friend kenya can teach your financial wonks a lot of lessons on prudent financial management. Expecting Kenya to have debt distress is expecting Nigeria to develop. NEVER gonna happen soon. We know when to LEVERAGE and when to REFINANCE. That is why 100kshs is 1 dollar. obaaderemi:

That details. The point is your received 18B dollars free money. If you had been forced to repay it all..you probably would have sunk. Now talking of Kenya - We have gone to Paris club - for debt rescheduling - never debt forgiveness. We have NEVER DEFAULTED. We KNOW MORE ABOUT PRUDENT PUBLIC MANAGEMENT than many many African countries. https://www.treasury.go.ke/aboutus/directorates/35-departments/debt-management/137-debt-relief-initiatives.html Kenya has gone to Paris Club three times for rescheduling in 1994, 2000, and 2004 1) 1994 - Kenya rescheduled US$ 4 Million - this was Loan to Kenya Airways that our gov had guaranteed - and KQ was in danger of collapsing. After Gok repaid the loan - we privatized KQ and it's been flying high until recently. One of most successful privatisation of an Airline worldwide. 2) 2000 - we had a huge budget deficit as our economy was basically under recession -we agreed with the Paris Club of creditors to reschedule 300m dollars. 3)Lastly 20004- This last was the Paris club agreement- we had about 450M dollars rescheduled. US$ 350 Million was rescheduled for a consolidation period of 3 years US$ 65 Million for this Financial year Japan rescheduled US$ 197.4 (56%), Million. Kenya promptly paid as per agreement and we got back to schedule with our debts. If I recall Italy was only one who swapped debt -for aid - basically they converted their debt into development program - so we repay but keep the money for Italian approved projects...very small money. For commercial loans - we went to London club - got debt cancellation of interest of 21m dollars in 90s and rescheduling of 49m dollars - the 90s and early 2000s were without doubt Kenya darkest economic moments... So when I see Nigerians and the worse GHANA - lecturing Kenya about debt, china, and such nonsense - I just shake my head in disbelief. theenchanter: |
I invite you to check who has gotten the biggest share of foreign donor aid. Nigeria received 16B dollars of debt forgiveness in 2005. Kenya i doubt has ever received that much foreign aid cumulative all its years of existence. Actually Nigeria received in just a single go - whopping 18B dollars in debt forgiveness. Kenya has received ZERO NADA foreign debt cancellation If Kenya was to be given a 18B boast - we would overtake South Africa and become Africa biggest economy.Danielnino00: |
Samrobo - your wet dreams are just wet-dreams According to https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/ Sub-Sahara Africa. In terms of tall building (include those that are in dreams/visions) South Africa lead with 93. Kenya follows with 45. Nigeria -poor Nigeria - 10. Those completed are 3 and 3 more in construction and 4 more in wet dreams.Tanzania 9 -a relic of the communists. And Ghana - poor little Nigeria - 2.

Where is Obaboon with his rudimentary economics to help Nigeria when it need him the most. 50% budget deficit. https://nairametrics.com/2020/05/23/time-for-nigeria-to-forget-crude-oil/ “Following the COVID-19 outbreak and low oil prices, the revised 2020 budget reflects an increased deficit (now approx. 50% of total budget) which will most likely be funded with a combination of foreign and domestic debt. “The revised budget also shows that the “Resource Curse” stigma credited to our nation is getting bolder and the diversification of our economy requires critical attention now. With our country’s endowment with enviable natural resources and several attempts by the Federal Governments (FG) to diversify the economy, it still is to be seen how effective the attempts have been. “The over-dependence on the oil sector as the major source of revenue has led to inadequate attention being given to the non-oil sectors. This is partly the cause of the challenges we have to contend with in funding the 2020 budget.” |
Nairobi has no lake or ocean but it has 2km long bridge. This is the earth of Nairobi Eastland - lower middle class - where Nigerians can afford to rent if they combined like 10 guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pDXYrDi55c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv9_27Jn56o |
All Nigerian cities are slumpolis. We have seen Lagos, Kano, Ibadan, name them. Huge integrated slums. Maybe the only exception is Abuja - and that too is becoming a slum. If Nigerians had great cities - this thread would have ended in page 1. But here you're 4 yrs later - still struggling to find a good picture ![]() And now just posting renders. Danielnino00: |
50% of Nigerians are poor. That is 100M people. More than twice Kenya total population. Lagos is one huge slums. Not just makoko alone. The entire city is like a slumpolis. We know pictures of poor people and slums. Aderr: |
Cooked GDP that is dependant on Oil is only recourse you have. It's why you fail the picture test. It why when other parameters are considered - you're just not there. GDP I keep saying are just estimates. Remove oil and minerals resources in West Africa - and you got nothing. Danielnino00: |
That was before Nigeria's education went south! Aderr: |
When dealing with Nigerians - don't use sarcasm or irony or any such stylish devices - they don't get it. Just keep it PLAIN old English. He might think you're saying Nigeria is a rising star like India and China. rationalhuman: |
I am not sure where you get the impression that Kenya rural areas are not improved. It appears Mzanzi started to build rural homes recently - but Kenyans have been investing in rural areas since 1960s! Nearly every Kenya including those in urban areas have a home in rural areas. I think 99% of kenyans maintain two homes. Austine1213: |
Meantime, Kenya's Flower exports have resumed to reach 60% of Kenya’s daily capacity but the industry is still facing high freight costs and less space on airlines. Per-kilogram freight costs have more than doubled to $3.3, from an average of $1.5 last year https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-22/lockdown-easing-in-europe-revives-kenyan-flower-industry |
Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world with about 100M extremely poor people. You can imagine overtaking India - a country with 1.4B people - in the number of poor people. Aderr: |
Even if we allow you to post renders of wet dream - you still cannot compete with Kenya. Kenya is an incredibly beautiful country with everything from white sandy beaches to word class animal parks - great cities - mountains - deserts - green highlands teeming with tea - name it. Aderr: |
Austine1212:South Africa was leading in Avacados until recently when Kenya and it appears even Rwanda has overtaken her.The same with dairy sector. |
samorobo:That is Nyari Nairobi idiot |
Just30:I live in Switzerland..has more high-rise than Kenya.Ghana you're cannot turn from Accra into developed world without serious work.Your country leadership is aiming for Nairobi as we aim for South Africa.. Switzerland are you crazy..Zurich and Geneva's are like heaven on Earth... everything works like a clock work..even developed world dream of that |
The economy is just gold, oil and minerals. PRIMITIVE. You think they will get to Nairobi this century? I doubt. Let him use his bundles so he can save himself the shame of arguing endless over black and white issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FB4Sw7TGIY Shma: |
Show me an area in Ghana that look like this....NAKED eye test. Build a city like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjjRETgoszo And come and talk to us. You're nothing but south sudan. Nairobi is aiming at Joburg..and we have other cities coming along. You know big cities account for even 30-50% of country GDP. Now for GHANA - ACCRA KUMASI TAKORADI? Where is your economyJust30: |
I have looked at Accra drones - pretty pathetic. Kumasi is just a slumpolis. Let just say the economy has very little formal sector. Remove gold and minerals...and they have NOTHING. Shma: |
Ghana cannot wash Kenya feet. I know you want to turn darkness into light. It just not possible. You just need to look at Kenya pictures. Don't ever complicate these things...development is visible in the naked eye. You don't need indices for anything but confirmation. South Africa is indeed far ahead. But in SSA - we are 2nd to them - in many things. Nigeria=Oil. Remove Oil. It's another Niger. The IA, in the end, of NIGERia is OIL. The whole of Northern populous NIGERia country is not any better than NIGER...in nearly any indicator...even basic stuff like polio vaccination. Maybe some part of Southern Nigeria has the GHANA or any western Africa backwater feel to it..but they are disenfranchised and busy running away. Just30: |
Obaboon, Facts are VERY VERY stubborn things. Kenya has 6-7% budget deficit Nigeria has budget deficit of 5%. Nigeria spend 75% of its revenues to pay debts - Kenya spend 33%. Nigeria budget is 22B I think now. Kenya is 30B. Just think about that. Your federal budget that depends on oil this year will probably be 10B dollars ![]() One has fake GDP of 400B. Kenya has solid GDP of 100B.And yet cannot raise money to compete with kenya. One has army force of 350K solders...earning peanuts. One spent 1.1B on 25K army force. You cannot fake GDP. That is why you fail the picture test. One has gazillion of oil, arable land, name all minerals. Only 2nd to Congo. One has no minerals, no oil, not even that much arable land- and Yet kick asr.se. obaaderemi: |
Precisely - outside banking and dangote - Nigeria is South Africa territory. Don't talk about Ghana. That is small fry. I have been looking at Accra and their cities..that is small country. gallivant: |
60B economy with 30B budget. That sounds like Africa most advanced economy. Even Scandinavians will envy us. Obaboon use your brain. Just because your GDP is fake - don't think every other economy is fake. Kenya is now Sub Sahara Africa's 3rd largest Economy. obaaderemi: |
