There is that - whole kidnapping & crimes - which you makes it sound like it's normal. It isn't. And there there is also racial divide - sort of unofficial apartheid - where races basically keep to themselves. I think Ethiopia - esp Adis crime is so low it's non-issues - also there is very little class division - but huge tribal division.

South Africa need to work on both issues - South Africa has highest homicide for a country that is not at war - and of course figure out how to make the rainbow nation thing work.

As for Ethiopia - we need about 100 pages - it has more issues - but they are fixing them. Big difference with Nigerians - who are busy denying their issues.

I remember one time a relative was going to work longer hours the following week, so she was going to be unable to fetch her child from school, as per usual. So she asked me to fetch the child for her. 1st the teachers at the school had to meet me with the mother in person. I had to carry an id book & sign a log book each time I collected the child. Now this one here is feeling victimized (on behalf of her friend) because the laws here are different & the parents more vigilant. If playing with random children is allowed in Ethiopia, that's fine. But this is South Africa, stay in your lane & keep your hands off people's children or you're going to be met with the same attitude, unless you ask for permission from the parents if you can play with their children. If people have no boundaries & respect for personal space in Ethiopia, while in Rome you better do as the Romans do or voetsek!

So 25% of Lagos is rural. I saw you claim Nairobi was 30% and I thought you were confusing it with Kenya. I thought Lagos was a city.

You can cherry pick areas that you know have sidewalks and the likes - but if you ever find some statistics - credible ones - comparing cities on say quality of infrastructure - come and share. Otherwise Nairobi has sidewalks, good drainage and working traffic lights. I know you were probably holed up in Umoja - and Nairobi eastlands - but even those places are now pretty much fixed.

Kenya is mostly to blame because we basically abandoned the north of kenya - there was no tarmac road - and now Moyale - Nairobi is starting to open - informal trade hopefully will flourish - and it should be possible to have someone taking a bus from Nairobi to Adis - and that slowly build relationship btw countries.

Kenya has ties with Eastern DRC - the swahili speaking part - It has nothing to do with French Speaking Kinshasa. I think new guy is just trying to build his own credibility. Everyone know Kabila rigged him in after his proxy was declared dead on arrival.

But yes Kenya companies are starting to make serious push into Congo. It was mainly informal trades but Kenya MNC are moving in. Equity Bank already hit a jackpot.

Now I think corporate are starting to realize DRC could be super-profitable.

Esp because Ethiopia will never happen. Ethiopia won't be opening their private sector anytime soon.

So yes I'd like to see us taking advantage of this new guy to invest more into DRC. Hopefully that can become the launchpad into french speaking Africa - DRC Congo, Congo and Cameroon - and then we get to Nigeria - and teach them business.

I think every African government has to check projects that are being planned. Many of the Chinnesse apartments being made in ET are constructed near river so that sewage disposal could be easily removed polluting the rivers. I am not sure about this real estate though

There is a problem both on the Ethiopian side and other African side. The way how other Africans sometimes behave makes some Ethiopians isolated. Entertainment in Africa isn't doing well. Many west African artists sing for money and disrespect ladies treating them inappropriate. Ethiopians don't want to be named the same with people who acts like this. And on the Ethiopian side, Ethiopians have to forever admit they are Africans not only when they found Africa important. The media itself is responsible for this. Whenever there is Africa union summit, we hear songs for Africa on the radio. After it is done, the whole Africa is forgotten.

I believe there is a reason for this. The disconnection between Ethiopians and other Africans is for a purpose.


But one thing that always surprise me. . . Any Ethiopian who truly knows Ethiopian history fights for panafricanism. The ones who think they know Ethiopia are the ones mistaken. We can take Ejigayehu Shibabaw (Gigi) and Teddy Afro as Ethiopian Artists who sing and shout for black people and Africa as a whole.

Thanks for being innocent. Most Ethiopean are great people. I think color thing will disappear when being African will be something to be proud of everywhere. That mean Nigerians have to make the effort as largest black nation not to appear as monkeys in zoo - and but functional thinking humanbeing.

Even yesterday I was having a conversation with my best friends and one of her said ' I am Ethiopian not like other African. We Ethiopians are not the same with others. . .we are different.'

I was so shocked that I lived with a person who think like this for more than 6 years. She don't like dark skinned people and that is really bad.

Many people in Ethiopia mistaken me for Indian mix but I don't feel good about that. I feel very happy when some also say that I have true Ethiopian look. I love being African and I love my continent. But now other Africans use same glass on all Ethiopians and they push some of us thinking we are rasict. Yes, i have been insulted many times for the thing i have not done. This is bad.




Note this- All Ethiopians aren't racist but they feel different because of history, culture and belief. They kept calling themselves habesha and even ignore Southern Ethiopians. It is very dissapointing. Some Ethiopians start shouting 'Africa' when they are in need. They keep shouting for Gambelas when they want the land of Gambela people. I just don't know how this have to be changed. But I know I am trying to do my part

Abuja is consistently ranked with Lagos as one of world worst cities. Nairobi just recently improved it's ranking as most dynamic city from position 10 to 6. The only city in Africa.

I must plead ignorance on matters health south Africa. I knew their education was not upto scratch. But it start to appears it's public sector is no different from sub-sahara. Yes their private sector obviously is on another level.Their financial and manufacturing sectors are miles ahead. We can probably catch up with pretty much the other sectors quickly.

When we had maize shortage last year - Tanzania actually ban the export of maize.

Kenya normally produce about 90% of it's staple meat - maize- the short-fall is mostly filled from Uganda. This year we had more than enough maize. 6M plus surplus maize - more than enough for animal feeds.

Tanzania has never really fed kenya - and if they had knew we had food shortage - trust me they would shut their border so we can starve.

All Tanzania sells in small quantities are fruits and onions - that middle men buy for dirty cheap and then sell them for higher prices.

When we had maize shortage - last year - we imported from Mexico & Uganda. When we had maize shortages in 2008 - we imported from South Africa.

As for Nigeria - yeap they are being fed by the UN together with Syria & Yemen.

Yes but I find electronics more expensive. Generally Uganda is a great country and apart from lots of insecurity (small time thugs - nothing major like gunshots) I could settle there. I spend most of my time in Uganda.
