AfriqueDuZuid:Gov of North Korea no doubt otherwise projects go through approval process where ideally residents or neighborhood should object or accept.. ideally all skyscrapers should be located in a specific zone.. mostly business districts.City that sprawl encounter serious challenge mostly traffic |
AfriqueDuZuid:All I get is that now Nairobi has overtaken us in skyscrapers... we need an excuse.Developers determine what best.. for them.Dubai is an expansive desert but they are building up. |

Obaboon, Let do basic English comprehension. In Kenya, some 90 percent of students who took the 2017 secondary education exams failed. Opposition lawmakers are calling on the government to investigate why so many students did not pass. The minister of education, however, expressed satisfaction with the results. In short they failed to qualify for university entry (C+) and the gov is happy because we dont need that many graduates without formal jobs. Obviously for a society that had become obsessed with sending kids to university - Kenya had to get used to sending their kids to become plumbers - so dont import from India like Nigeria does. obaaderemi: |
Kids who dont qualify to join universities - are not failures - they may not be academically gifted but they can choose to become craftsmen, artisans and other proffesionals. In kenya everyone now is entitled to higher educations loans - and they can choose to study anything https://www.helb.co.ke/helb-products/helb-loans/tvet-loans/ Now imagine if Nigeria was exporting plumbers instead of BA (economics) who end up driving taxis. The plumbers in US or UK will earn significantly more. |
Obaboon just to butt in where do you get 90 percent failure rate? As far as I know we have no failures - we dont import plumbers from India? Those that miss university entry - get scholarship - similar to university kids - to study in technical and vocational colleges The government is offering sponsorships to students who scored grades as low as 'E' in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges in the country. The students will be assigned to the institutions through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) - a state corporation established under the Universities Act, 2012 to coordinate the placement of government-sponsored students to universities and colleges. obaaderemi: |
WHY ARE YOU LOOPING KENYA IN - if It was a kenyan saying anything about Azania- you'd have blown a head casket alreadyAfriqueDuZuid: |
I can confirm that is Lagos - the Africa Mega Slumpolis - twin city to Kinshasasa. jl115: |
And who asked you for yours - Almajiri begging the streets of Kaduna? theenchanter: |
For the umpteenth time - the Zoogeria and the mini zoo - really need to understand what a slum and a slumpolis look like Below is example 2 - Mukuru slum complex of Nairobi - with Imara daima estate. That is slum - what you have in west africa is slumpolis - entire metropolis look like one huge slum without any zoning or planning - save for Abuja.
|
If you must lie - dont use India pictures. South Africa have slums no doubt but Nigeria entire cities are slums. Nairobi has slums but Lagos is a slum. A city that has no planning nor zoning - is an integrated slum. If you check the picture below you can clearly see the slum from decent areas. Apart from Abuja - most west african cities are hodgepodge of slums - slumpolis. Below is Kibra and Ngumo estate - that is how cities that are planned but where poverty exists - like South Africa or Kenya or India looks like. But west africa - your cities look like Ibandan - expansive slumpolis 68816419:

Meanwhile the generate white collar graduates - but there in India - they are sending craftsmen and artisans to do basic stuff. We need to reform our education system to generate blue collar workers. Nigeria is a zoo of course and cannot even have such convesration. Obakillah: |
Been trying to tell Obaboon - that Nigeria education system is due for reforms - now look you're importing plumbers from India? samorobo: |
Of course. Nigeria electricity access is 50-60 percent - but we know you'd be lucky to get 4 hours of power in the best part of your city. Installed capacity of 12,000MW but we know peak power production is now less than 2,000MW. So we have to go beyond FAKE NIGERIA STATS. theenchanter: |
1st thing when I googled Nigeria water access... Although about 70 per cent of Nigerians are reported to have access to a basic water services, more than half of these water sources are contaminated. And although 73 per cent of the country's population have access to a water source, only nine litres of water on average is available to a Nigerian daily. For kenya I get this 59% of people in Kenya have access to safe drinking water. 29% of people in Kenya have access to improved sanitation facilities. In 2020, UNICEF certified 1,765 villages as open defecation free. We also provided WASH facilities for over 600 schools in 2020, to help with reopening. theenchanter: |
Kenya education standards as much as it best in Africa - is at the bottom of developed world. If we were just satisfied - we would be like Nigeria - Kenya is making progress forward by taking PAINFUL reforms including instituting mass failures. Now pray when will you institute even the most basic reforms in ANYTHING Like dealing with millions of kids out of school? You cannot compare Kenya education in almost all aspect to nearly all sub saharan africa countries. Mauritus and Magreb maybe. obaaderemi: |
Obaboon, A functional gov doesnt just operate on auto-pilot like NIgeria. It make deliberate policies and strategies to drive the nation forward Of course - there were exam leakages, too many kids in universities and all sort of things. This what changed in 2015 - and this mass failures - is intended to achieve SPECIFIC OBJECTIVIES The fact remain Kenya education standards are Africa best. When kids are compared on the same exams - Kenya kids excel. But if we were to just sit on our laurels and be happy - we will become another south africa. Promising country hobbled by bad education. If we want to pass kids - we just moderate our exams. obaaderemi: |
Nairobi - World 4th most dynamic city - Under Construction - Africa Traveller highlights construction in Nairobi Metro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDGeWjhLUe0 |
Obaboon you come from a zoo. Let me help you with how it works in a functional country From 2015 - kenya exams were not moderated and exams have been made difficult.... Last year due to COVID - gov has promised to moderate the exam. Exams are moderated or standardized to generate a normal distribution curve...so the decision on how to fail or pass students lies with examiners...they can decide an A is 20 marks if the exam is very hard....because there has to be a normal distribution curve. kenya gov since 2015 deliberated refused to do this...to dissuade too many students going to university This is just few days ago... More filters...yet Nairobi city is huge construction site - everywhere you look - tall buildings (75 percent of all skyscrapper under construction in Africa), world class roads and name it. That is why Nairobi is world 4th most dynamic city - competing only with Asian cities similarly growing very fast Once Nairobi is done with construction - what will you tell people?

You opinion is not worth a bucket of warm spit. Nairobi was voted 12th best city to live in by Expat. Now that is something worthwile. 4th most dynamic city. In the WORLD. Your useless opinion is just an online rant. Provide evidence like some ranking. Not your opinion. Flap your gums endlessly if you must to deal with your envy of Nairobi samorobo: |
PURE NONSENSE. US after industralizing in 20th century has always been short of labour. Importing labour worlwide. Never exported Labour. Just a few peace corps type to help Ghana - for one or two years before they go back home. US economy grew because of it's domestic industry. Ghana, Nigeria, Philiphines and India - those have been exporting labour. Ghana began exporting millions of slaves in 15th century. And it still look worse than Burundi. Just40: |

90% of students failing an exam defeats all attempts at making excuses.
