If true then this is very counterproductive. Private practice is allowed and encouraged in many healthcare systems abroad that we envy. This was done before and it didn't work.
This is like asking a teacher not to have private lessons for students in his area just because he works for the government.
The important thing is that the government time is used for the government, personal or private time should be used as a person desires.

The current paradigm of boy meets girl (or girl meets boy), fall in love, marry and hopefully live happily ever after is greatly flawed.
First, it is not our African culture. Second, the people we took the model from fare no better with their love relationships (they have up to 50% failed relationships).
I believe the safest course especially for ladies is to fall in love with your husband, not your boyfriend.
How do you then marry you may ask? If possible get your parents to help you with a choice, or other trusted elders. Let it not be based on your emotions. Being in love does not work a marriage- if in doubt ask your parents.
What you need in a partner primarily is not "being in love" but a set of desirable but reasonable qualities. For example, a decent man will keep his words, not hit a woman, look after his family etc.
This is still the model in most of South East Asia where they have more stable relationships compared to the western model.
This may sound old fashioned but it works and will save our young people from these kind of stories.

Just to add to this as it is a very important topic. While there are other haemoglobinopathies (abnormal haemoglobins) apart from the well known and most common sickle haemoglobinopathies, these other types are not common among black Africans. Haemoglobin S and C are the types commonly found among black Africans. So it will still be VERY unusual for a purely Nigerian couple AA + AS to have an 'SS' child and should be investigated further if it happens.

There is a small tribe in Nigeria whose members mostly do not have a sense of smell genetically. And for those born with one, it is actually very easy to lose sense of smell e.g. After a cold.

Infact, in advanced centres, it will be inconceivable not to consult colleagues- junior, senior or contemporary, if you have a ''serious'' case. Many times you actually hold case conferences to decide the best course of action. Medical knowledge is so vast that now that no one person can claim to 'know it all'. Severe sepsis still carries a high mortality. Of course where facilities are available chances are better, but it is still a serious illness. I would have expected that lady to have gone to the ICU, placed on life support etc.

My dear young lady and junior colleague (if indeed you are a medical student), this is a blessing. There is no rhyme or reason why 2 people both AS, with full knowledge of their genotype status, on this God's own earth should marry and attribute it to some divine arrangement. It is bad enough if there is ignorance. It will be double tragedy to bring children into this world who potentially may be sicklers when you know this may happen. My take on a matter like this is that the act was put up by what you may refer to as ''familiar spirit''. It is not the actual spirit or ghost of the woman, for ''it is appointed once for man to die..''. However there are familiar spirits that follow people all their lives and are often trans-generational. The matter of familiar spirits is a separate discussion on its own.
Now, as to whether this young doctor experienced a paranormal phenomenon, I think yes, he did. Such experiences are quite common, especially in environments where there is a lot of deaths. In one of the hospitals I worked in the UK, stories were rife about several ghosts- including a man certified dead, who got up, went to the bathroom, returned to his bed, event was witnessed by a nurse who was scared to death.
In that same city, a big naval city in South West UK, the city council at a point had to hire ghostbusters because ghosts were apparently harassing military personnel in the naval base. Presumably there was a lot of action in the area during WWII and the whole phenomenon attributed to ghosts still hanging around.

If this story is indeed true, hmmm. Reminds me of a certain character in the Bible and her husband. It didn't end well for them. I really hope this is not true.

In the context of the culture of the day, the woman will be found out eventually. So the better interpretation will be - you have to marry EVERY woman you have sex with, and ''you may not put them away ALL the days of your life''. There are more questions than answers about this subject, but even mainstream scientist agree the earth is not truly spherical.

3. The centrifugal force of a spinning globe at 25000km/hr should dissipate the waters of the ocean into space or at least result in a bulge at the equator- this has not been observed
4. The Antarctica- they sell it as a mere continent, yet there is a treaty no private individual can visit the place, unless approved by some govt agency, unlike the North pole that you can visit at will, provided you have a visa of course.

There are other dilemmas, but want to keep the post short. So yes, it is by no means clear at all that the earth is a sphere!
