PENNYSWAP:Actually igbos in the North will prefer to live the rest of their lives there than go back and settle in the East (dont take my word for it - just watch their declaration recently calling themselves Arewa/Northern Ibos) You guys (ipod - active and closet members) never miss an opportunity to spread hate. But when anyone counters you from the otherside they are hating on you. I am just happy no Northerner borders to act on you numerous provocations (You have killed Northerners, destroyed and pillaged their properties) even though I know that is the deep desire of ipob |
Ola17:The above comment is why I don't want to join issues with you. Peace |
mod please front page so that we can discuss censorship |
Kobojunkie:Quite apt, your comment there. I just find it ironic when some ignorant Christians refer to muslims as uncircumcised! |
luvmijeje:In islam there is a level of modesty required of both women and men, for the women part of this requirement is the khimaar(head covering). The cap, though a good sence of islamic fashion, is not a requirement for men (just as face covering is not compulsory for women). My comment on sence of deprivation arises from difficulty ladies who want to uphold this tenet of their faith face but are deprived of it. And as @Kobojunkie mentioned above, yea the lady can seek alternative institutions. But if we can accommodate ourselves, why not we do it. |
No sensible nation will allow the internet supersede its national interest. Just yesterday the US blocked couple of Iranian websites globally (not just in US cyberspace). Tell me where is the freedom of speech in that. Now tell me if any sane country will tolerate the sabotage and secessionist AGENDA Kanu or IPOB is pushing. Some inferiority complex ridden youths will come here and try to justify US' or Canadian decision and condemn that of Nigeria. Let me tell our youths this : You might not like the current leadership in the country or the current situation (God knows I am not a fan of Buhari too), but Buhari will return to his farm and we will be left with the (irreparable) battered image we all created for our nation. You should know that IPOB is after the downfall of the nation (so I expect nothing short of their current propaganda and attacks on national asset and they should also understand why we take them as terrorists and treat them as such), But for us Nigerians who are frustrated by the system, we need to understand the difference between seeking to change the system and destroying the nation (the former cannot be exclusive of the latter, but the the latter can independent of the former) |
Trudeau’s Party Passes Bill to Regulate Social Media, Streaming By Kait Bolongaro 22 June 2021, 12:31 Move would prioritize Canadian content, echoing broadcast law But critics say it threatens free speech on user-driven sites Canadian lawmakers passed a controversial bill that aims to regulate programming distributed by media streaming services and social platforms like Facebook and YouTube, a measure that critics warn could infringe on individual speech. The legislation drafted by Justin Trudeau’s government, known as Bill C-10, is meant to subject tech giants to the same requirements as traditional broadcasters -- effectively compelling companies like Netflix Inc. and TikTok Inc. to finance and promote Canadian content. It’s among the most far-reaching plans by governments anywhere to regulate the algorithms tech companies use to amplify or recommend content. And, in an age when everyone is a potential publisher, the Act to Amend the Broadcasting Act could affect individual expression on social media and other digital platforms that rely on user-generated content. It’s unclear whether the bill will become law, however. The legislation needs to win passage through the Senate, a process that could be pre-empted by an election later this year that would effectively kill the bill. If that happens, a new government would have to put it through the legislative mill again if it wants the rules to come into effect. Trudeau’s government hailed its passage. “There are other issues we have to address when it comes to broadcasting and creation, and we will,” Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault said during the final debate Monday evening. “Bill C-10 is a first step in that direction.” Tech Titans Governments around the world are grappling with how to modernize their legal frameworks to account for the global reach of the digital economy, reshaping how policy makers think about issues as varied as monopoly power, taxation and worker rights. In Canada, an additional worry is how to protect domestic cultural industries as more Canadians turn to internet companies for music and video programming, which is the focus of the new law. Stunting the influence of U.S. culture, in particular, is a core principle of modern Canadian media law. For decades the government has required radio and television broadcasters to produce and distribute local content. That stance has irked trading partners, because it means that the media sector is often exempted from agreements meant to give foreigners access to Canadian markets. It also means that global media companies like Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. can’t own newspapers or television stations in Canada. Under the existing law, a regulatory body known as the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission certifies what is and what is not Canadian. It can also issue fines for violations starting at C$250,000 ($202,500) or even suspend a broadcaster’s license to operate. The new law would give the CRTC that same kind of power over internet companies. Netflix Bill C-10 would effectively compel companies like Netflix to finance and promote Canadian content.Photographer: Jason Alden/Bloomberg The challenge is how to regulate content on the internet without undermining individual freedom of expression. The bill’s language is ambiguous on this point, according to its critics. Some of it can be interpreted as saying that user activity won’t be regulated, while other parts suggest that content produced on user-driven sites will be. “It is not at all clear how this would be implemented. Would Canadians be required to disclose that they’re Canadian to meet these requirements?” asked Michael Geist, an internet law professor at the University of Ottawa and a prominent critic of the legislation. “It’s hard enough frankly to identify what constitutes Canadian content for conventional broadcast.” The bill would effectively add three requirements for digital media companies: They must provide information about their revenue sources, give a portion of their profits to a fund to support Canadian content and increase the visibility or “discoverability” of Canadian content. It would be the first modernization of the country’s broadcasting legislation since 1991. Kobojunkie:I hope my earlier comment above addresses this issue of imposition of personal beliefs. |
Kobojunkie:You are mixing it up, Anything personal has no imposition in it - if a Muslim lady wants to wear her Khimaar (head covering), or a Christian her rosary (or hip beads as you mentioned) or a jew his skull cap then so be it. These things are all personal and impose nothing on others (rather it is the "others" that want to impose their own view of what is acceptable) We have tried to "forget our differences" for so long and it is the cause of the derision each side has. We should try to "understand our differences" rather. For instance as muslim I am required to "pray" 5 specific times a day (such is the obligation that when i am physically incapacitated i am still required to meditate it in my mind before the appointed time elapse) so you can see that I would need a couple of minutes of prayer breaks and place daily. You should not dismiss my requirement because it doesn't apply to you, or request that you must be given same consideration, because it doesn't apply to you. For religiously observant Jews, Shabbat is as important as any other holy day. Orthodox Jews do not work or travel on Shabbat. Consequently, Friday evening or Saturday classes or exams will generally pose a conflict for Orthodox Jewish students - This should be considered and accommodated as well. I agree it is a tough call and prejudices die hard especially in the charged up environment we find ourselves, but we need to need to find the level headedness to understand ourselves. PS. I went to a catholic school. I still remember my small blue booklet of songs of praise and my illustrated bible (which surprisingly helped me in understanding the stories of the prophets in the quran!) |
luvmijeje:Good point! but in islam the stipulation is a to use a "Khimaar" (a part of the hijaab) which covers the head (except the face). A beret unfortunately would not fulfill such requirements. So you see a devout Muslim lady will fill deprived of her right (nay, her obligations) to practice her faith if forced to not wear hijaab if forced to take off her hijaab |
milliondollas:Thank you for your analogy. But that is the problem - the way we approach problems! 1. Is it against your religious teaching how muslims dress? or is your antagonistic response based on the context of your interactions with some badly behaved muslims? 2. Is it allowed to enter a mosque with a shoe from an islamic perspective? or is it because I just despise Christians so much that "even their shoes" are not allowed in a mosque? Notice how I frame the two issues. I am not providing answers here, but just providing different perspectives to issues. The first aspect in the 2 points above is from religious stance and the second is from personal stance. (The latter provides room for more flexibility) It will be unfair for adherent of any religion to ask others to change their religious stance. PS. and yes you can enter a mosque with a shoe so long as it is clean (but I can bet you even some muslims dont know this) |
luvmijeje:Yes please, that's my point- their strong antagonism to Muslim kids wearing hijaab to school. |
You see why some whites consider you sub-humans as far as reasoning is concerned. Muslims and Christians are killed daily in this country (with the former killed even more) The weapons being used by this mass murderers are made in Europe/Americas/China etc. Yet to deflect your sub-human reasoning capacity you are made to see the problem in a petty tribal/religious prism. But you never question or pressure the suppliers of these arms to Boko haram, herdsmen, bandits or whatever morphology you use to describe these terrorists. Well let's keep it up, accusing ourselves or our governments or whatever we find to blame (but ourselves) while our resources (human and natural) keep on leaving our continent unhindered. Doesn't all these cause you to ponder? |
Given the way our fellow Christian in the country are forcefully against the Hijaab (head covering for women) you would think it was in their religious doctrine to oppose it. I am of the opinion that we Nigerians are sentimental, subjective and are as far away from the spirit of what the doctrines of our religion teaches as "chalk is to cheese". In essence we are hippocrates, creed confused and morally flexible, and that is why we are in the mess we find ourselves today. See the beautiful way these Ethiopian Christians cover themselves (you would think they are muslims) and yet these people have an unbroken connection to christianity since the 4th century AD. Civil discussions only please

I tire for the brainless people we have in this country o! Must your hatred or bigotry for the president cloud your judgement? We are still suffering the consequence of impotence of the AU by standing firm against the mess the EU and the US created in Libya by massively supplying arms to Libyan rebels all in the name toppling Gaddafi. And when he was toppled they didn't bother to disarm those war lords they created or mop up the arms they flooded Libya with. The ECOWAS should not only talk, but walk the talk by ensuring the planned expulsion doesn't further destabilize the already fragile African security architecture |
Actually it all depends of the mental complex of the officer in charge at the moment and nothing to do with both presidents above. We have a lot of no-good, melodramatic, sanctimonious, eye-service inclined people in charge of affairs of people this country. I am sure you would have come across them in the work place; "the boss is coming, do this - do that" people |
Why would they respect you, when you dont respect yourselves. Back here you will identify yourself with your tribe or region at the expense of your country - even dragging your country in the mud while at it. But when you go outside you become Nigerians and expect people to respect you for who you are? Tell them you are biafrans, oduduas or whatever ever myopic inconsequential nomenclature you describe yourselves with and see if anyone gives a damn. Nigeria will surely survive us and the vile we currently extrude as a people. And more deserving beings will take our place |
I have heard a lot reference here on NL to muslims as uncircumcised (mostly in the politics section) The irony is that circumcision is compulsory on Muslim Male child and really, muslims used to think that non muslims are the ones who are uncircumcised! (well except for the jews who also practice it) ![]() In islam Khitaan or circumcision is compulsory on Male child for the following: 1. Muslims must use water to "pufrify" themselves when ever they use the toilet, the foreskin of an uncircumcised "organ" would trap some urine and therefore negate proper ritual purification. In fact it is a matter of faith to wash yourself with clean water (islam defines properties of clean water) whenever you pee or poo in the toilet, whenever there's urethral discharge (not semen), and a complete bath whenever there is discharge of semen. 2. Islam encourages us to follow the example our prophet (peace be upon him) and all other prophets (peace be upon them all) and circumcision was on of the ways of prophets of old. I hope this sheds light "where there is none" |
EMMY76:How? Nobody has threatened any ibo person in the North (to you guys' disappointment), rather it is ipob (that you so conveniently forgot) that is burning down Investments they think are for Northerners hoping for reprisals, and now that even reprisal attacks aren't happening ipob is busy issuing return orders and insulting Northern ibos. Life of an ipob! |
BoboNkiti19:Remember Buhari said if you want Investments and jobs then tell your youths (or ungun whatever you call them these days) to behave themselves - you were busy tagging US/UK/UN that Buhari insulted you. Well here you have it, I doubt Mikel feels safe visiting Anambra anytime he's back in the country |
what actually |
I guess hipocracy is the order of the day now |
The presser of Mr Putin after his meeting with the US president is still on as I type this. When Mr Putin was asked on Russian human rights records concerning Alexy Nevalny (the political prisoner - or as western media will have us believe) and other political prisoners, his response got me thinking he said: America still run Guantanamo Bay prison which is in contravention of International and US laws itself and human rights violations carried out in there America runs a number of so called "black sites" even on European soil where prisoners are held and detained without fair hearing and human rights violations carried out there in. So my thoughts are; Given this not so flattering records of the US itself, does the US have any moral right to lecture Russia or any other country for that matter on human rights? Please civil discussions only |

we all know how contracts work in Nigeria. There is 1.signing of MoU 2.Then awarding of contract 3.Then re-awarding of the same contract at a higher price 4.Then approval to disburse fund (not actual disbursement) 5.Finding the source for funds to be disbursed Forget the semantic gymnastics played by politicians. What matters is who layed the first brick and who commissioned it. If the answer is Buhari - then Baba takes all |
What sort of barbaric custom is this? what if the husband died of a contagious disease. |
I hope those miscreants in here always complaining that when will bandits be "spoken to with language they understand" will see this and stop celebrating their criminals - unless they are all criminals themselves. sincere condolences to the families of those caught in the line of fire. May Allah prepare for them an abode better than the one they left |
The British Broadcasting Corporation has been the propaganda arm of imperial Britain during colonial era. It Broadcasted then in all language of influence in her colonies to further imperial Britain's cause (rightly or wrongly). With the demise of colonial influence and birth of independent states in former colonies, the BBC continued to further now United Kingdom's propaganda in the new born states - including Nigeria. With Yoruba language and Igbo increasingly becoming very influential in Nigeria scheme of affairs, the UK feels a need to gain a foothold and ability to steer affairs in these two rising giants (and incase any of the multiple scenarios play out - one of which is splitting Nigeria) |
Everyone that wants to trend these days just presses IPOBS mumu button knowing well that they can trend you |
vedaxcool:Don't bother telling them they no it better than anyone |
