Hello everyone, sorry if this question is repetitive but I can't find a straightforward answer online.
I'm studying in the UK and want to attend a 2-week summer school in south africa. Please where can I find information on what I need to apply?
Is it better to apply through evisa or vfs.? The summer school is in June |

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in the UK doing a PhD but I've been invited to apply for a 12 day summer institute program in Pretoria. I'm not sure what type of visa to apply for tourist or student or business. I'm not exactly a tourist because I'm going for just the institute, but it's not really business because I'm not doing anything commercial, I'm not sure it's student either because although it's affiliated with the university of Pretoria I'm not going there to study per se.
I'd appreciate any advice on what visa and where to apply for the visa too and budget requirements |

Is it too late at this point (considering priority and superpriority options) to get a date for biometrics to the UK? |

Hello everyone, please what's the process of collecting your passport after a withdrawal?
I cancelled student visa priority I made. They didn't allow me to keep my passport because I was using priority.
But I'll be travelling to another country in about 2 weeks and processing student visa for some other country and I really need the passport.
The last time I withdrew visa application it took about 13 WDs though I kept the passport that time.
Any help would be greatly helpful |

Hello @offwego What do I write in the address, should I address it to the High Commission? offwego: So what is clear from the scenario you have painted is there is a record of a recent visa application refusal with reasons provided irrespective of the confusion around whether the request to withdraw was successful or not, so you need to mention this refusal because it wasn't stated in your student visa application.
From the scenario, the reason why you are writing the letter is because there has been an update to your situation so the cover letter should be and it should read
“Cover letter -Addendum to Travel History(UK)”
You can go on to state in the 1st paragraph why you are writing the letter which is to update the ECO that you have recently received a refusal to the -----(state type of visa) UK visa application made on ------ date. State the purpose why you made the application e.g to attend the ------- conference which was to hold from ------ date to ------ date.
Secondly you state the date you received the refusal and quote the reasons provided for the refusal from the document received. You can then follow-up to highlight the reason why and actions you had taken to withdraw the application and the date prior to receiving the refusal notification.
Thirdly, you can state that the addendum has become necessary, as you had not highlighted this refusal when you completed your online student visa application as the refusal notification succeeded the completion of your student visa application. (you mentioned that you received the refusal yesterday and you had already submitted the online application)
You may wish to highlight for the Eco’s attention as you have mentioned here that you are a fully sponsored student and this is why you have not presented your personal bank statement with your application to demonstrate proof of funds (ideally, this could have been stated in the additional information section on the Visa form but it is still ok to state it here). |

Thank you so much. This makes sense to me now. I didn't know how to construct the letter. offwego: So what is clear from the scenario you have painted is there is a record of a recent visa application refusal with reasons provided irrespective of the confusion around whether the request to withdraw was successful or not, so you need to mention this refusal because it wasn't stated in your student visa application.

1. Yes 2. Yes I actually do have the money (for the three weeks program). They were just not satisfied that the money was really mine or something based on my salary bigtt76: 1. The visit visa you applied for, did you go for the biometrics capture? 2. The scholarship you got recently is it fully-funded one?
Reason for this is that once you are captured your record remains with them whether you withdraw or not. This means they already know you do not have funds in your bank account via the bank statement you submitted earlier. So except you have a scholarship that covers your entire stay in the UK, presenting another POF bank statement may be seen as dodgy.
My opinion though. |
Travel › Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 8 by sainted(f): 5:17pm On Aug 25, 2022 |
For the student visa, I got a fully funded scholarship so i didn't put in any information regarding my bank statement. I have tuition and stipend. So for the cover letter, I should write that I was refused a visitor's visa in the past right? But that i didn't mention it because a decision was made on my application yesterday. Do I need to explain the issue with my finances even if I'm fully sponsored? Promoter2: The fear is that your visit visa was denied (even after you cancelled) due to the ECO not being satisfied with your finances. Now, you are applying for a Student visa, except you have sufficient funding in form of exteranl funding (e.g scholarship), how do you plan to prove financial ability to take care of your bills? Remember, they have your financial records from the visit visa application ( so, money can't just pump in from somewhere except you have strong proof).
For the cover letter, exactly as you have explained above |

Oh no. I applied June 20th for the visitor's visa for a 3-week program from July to August. Since I didn't get the visa and time was going for resumption and the program was going to end August 11, I applied to withdraw the visitor's visa application on August 5 via a paid call stating that I would like to apply for my student visa and I was told that I would get a notification about it. If I'm to write the cover letter, please what do I write? dduchess90: Hello
This is messy
You applied for visit visa on the 5th knowing you will be going to study in the same country a few weeks after.
You were refused a visit visa despite your request for cancellation.Your application was assessed by an Eco and refused
If you are going for your biometrics you have to address this refusal with dates and reason and add why you have now decided to study because it seems odd

Hello everyone,
So I withdrew my visitor's visa application on the 5th of August because the program I was supposed to attend was going to end the following week and because I wanted to apply for the student visa because I got a scholarship that I can't defer and I've applied for the visa now.
But yesterday, I got a notification that my withdrawal request has now been successfully escalated. 2 hours later, they said my visitor's visa was rejected because my salary was not commensurate with my account balance and that there were numerous deposits in my account that they did not understand. 5 minutes later, they said my application has been successfully withdrawn.
I am very confused. Was the application withdrawn or was the visa application rejected?
My biometrics is next week and I want to know if I should just cancel the application or write a cover letter. I don't even know what I'll write in the cover letter because I'm fully funded and I didn't declare statement of account in the student visa application.
Please what do I do? |

How did you get a new date please? Can you do this even after paying and booking one appointment already? Kennyg428: I submitted my application on the 8th of August for ABJ TLS. I was fortunate to get 16th of August. Although I had to follow the hints I got here about using incognito mode to sign in at midnight. I firstly got 23rd, I amended to 18th & then finally amended to 16th. I did all in the same night.
Thanks to Duchess, Justwise & co for the good work being done. |

Hi Duchess, I think this makes sense. I've even discovered some more errors that the man made in the application that I need to explain if I want to be honest. But does this mean I will have a clean slate because that's really what I'm after? I paid for the keep my passport option, so I have my passport and the UKVI rep told me when I called today that a decision will be made on the 7th week. I just hope this means I won't have anything on record. I don't mind losing the money I paid so far I can just correct all these mistakes duchess90: Hello
Okay but please do not make any student visa application until you have the outcome of your visit visa
If you can't wait then you might need to cancel your application, your visa fee will not be refunded
I might also suggest you target January session so that give you time to get your decision and passport returned and plan for your study visa
Cheers. |

I think you can see that this message quoted an older reply which Duchess replied to that I asked about a Tanzanian visa from last year. Please follow the quote to the end. giselle237: this is where you mention the rejection. So which is it exactly as you are contradicting yourself |
Travel › Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 7 by sainted(f): 9:52am On Aug 01, 2022 |
If you followed the quote to the beginning, you would see where I stated that I was rejected for a Tanzanian visa last year. Not a UK visa. I applied for that one myself too. giselle237: but you said earlier you were rejected. just get the story straight so you can get the much needed help. If you have not heard back from them for a previous application then you should reach out to them to know the status. |

Thanks. My visitor's visa application wasn't rejected. I just haven't heard back from the UKVI. It was my first time applying for a visa and since he's well known to me and my family, I decided to go with him. He didn't even charge me for it. But he delayed me quite a bit and that's why I am doing this one myself and asking these questions. Or would you prefer I ask no questions and acted on my own in ignorance? CowbellY: If.yoh have not submitted then add the rejection to it. And why are you using an agent in god's name. Filling a visa form is less than 20 mins process.
You are using the same agent that failed in getting you a visit visa now you're not sure what to do. |
Travel › Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 7 by sainted(f): 6:19pm On Jul 31, 2022 |
Ok, the first one was visitor's visa. The second one is study visa. I haven't submitted yet. duchess90: Hello
That's the disadvantage of using an agent and I am not sure why you still choose to when you can DIY and have a wealth of experienced people on this platform to assist when needed.
I am also not sure if you are applying for by visit or study visa
Since you have submitted your application you have to hope that ECO overlooks the omission

Hi Duchess, So an agent applied for a visitor's visa for me last month and while reviewing the application, and comparing it with this student visa, I noticed that he didn't list this particular visa rejection. I told him about it and he said it's insignificant to the student visa application and should be discountenanced. He also said I need to be careful to ensure that everything I write for the student visa application matches what I have for the visitor's own. I'm quite confused duchess90: Hello
Strange you weren't told why
Anyway declare the refusal and state that you are uncertain as to why you were refused

Hello everyone,
A work colleague has given me her address for use in the form. She told me I could stay with her for a month till my stipend kicks in. The address is not very far from the university as well. But a family friend is telling me that this won't carry much weight and that I need something like a lease or a booking preferably in university accommodation for my application to be successful.
What does the house think please |

Please is it still possible to do walk in in any of the three centres in this country. I have to travel to Abuja next week and was thinking of doing walk in since I now have all my documents ready but since I stay in Lagos, either Ikeja or VI would also be okay if walk in is still allowed.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to begin my application and I came across the name section where you're asked to enter your other names.
So my name on my international passport is something like Gbenga 'Bisi Akinfolarin (this is not a real name) On my transcript and certificates, it is something like Gbenga Adebisi Akinfolarin
The full middle name is something like Adebisolalokanlokan and it doesn't appear on my records but when I first processed my national id card, it was written out as Gbenga Adebisolalokanlokan Akinfolarin but due to the length, I did a name change to Gbenga Adebisi Akinfolarin, so that it would match my certificates.
My question is, in the section where they are asking for other names, do I need to also submit these two ones: Gbenga Adebisi Akinfolarin and Gbenga Adebisolalokanlokan Akinfolarin? |

Hi everyone,
I applied for visitor's visa to the UK and did my biometrics on June 13th. June 20th - Email that application has been transferred to UKVI June 27th - Application has reached UK Visa section
I'm supposed to travel on the 24th for a 3-week conference but the organisers have said a one-week delay is permissible for me due to the visa issue.
By these timelines, do you guys think this trip will still be possible? Should I send a reminder to TFS or UKVI asking for an update?
Thanks |
