AgricultureEconomy: We Must Produce Our Food Locally – Buhari by saintmark88(op): 6:36pm On Mar 17, 2016
ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria must halt the importation of food items that could be locally produced. He stated that continued importation of food would affect the economy and expose the country to industrial risks.
To realize the objective, the president said that his administration would vigorously implement policies that will revive Nigeria’s agricultural sector and reposition it as the mainstay of the national economy. The president spoke while granting audience to the new Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Vesselin Blagoer Delcher and others who were in at the presidential Villa on Thursday to show their Letters of Credence to him. The President also noted that importation of food contributed to the depletion of the country’s foreign reserves and deprived citizens of job opportunities. ‘‘We must produce what we eat. We don’t have unlimited resources to continue the importation of food items that can be produced locally. “Fortunately, some Nigerians have shown foresight by building factories that process agricultural products within the country. ‘‘They have created a value chain that boosts employment, protects our foreign reserves and safeguards the economy from external shocks. “We will do all that we can to encourage others to join in the effort to achieve national self-sufficiency in food production,” President Buhari said. The President said that his administration would encourage Nigerian farmers to adopt modern, technology-driven methods that guarantee higher production and returns on investment. A statement by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina added that President Buhari also received Mr. Paul Lehmann, the new High Commissioner of Australia, Hajiya Afsatu Olayinka Ebiso-Kabba, the new High Commissioner of Sierra-Leone and Thordur Aegir Oskarsson, the new Ambassador of Iceland. According to the statement, the president stated hat Nigeria would welcome the further strengthening of relations with their countries, especially in the areas of agriculture, solid minerals and trade. The President also wished the four envoys successful tenures in Nigeria.

Food45,000 Bakers Forced Out Of Business By High Cost Of Wheat – Nigerian Bakers’un by saintmark88(op): 11:38am On Mar 17, 2016
About 45,000 bakers have been forced out of business due to the skyrocketing price of wheat, the National President of the Association of Master Bakers of Nigeria (AMBN), Sir Simeon Abanulor, has said.

“If I tell you how many bakeries that have closed shop, you will not believe it. We have over 450,000 bakeries in Nigeria and of this number, more than 10 per cent have closed shop in the last three months. It is a very critical matter,” Abanulor said Tuesday during interview with newsmen in Aba, Abia State.

He hinted that the cost of the commodity may continue to increase unless the Federal Government takes urgent steps to facilitate the cost of wheat and explained why cassava flour was not being used by bakers.

The Chief Master Baker attributed the high rate of job losses in the bakery industry to exorbitant cost of wheat flour, the major ingredient for bread-making, which is imported.

He, therefore, called on the government to make approved enhancers cassava flour available for the bakers to enable them start using it (cassava flour) for bread production to knock down bread prices.

Abanulor explained that unavailability of the cassava flour enhancers, the bakers are yet to commence using cassava flour to bake quality bread. He said bakers in the country have already been trained by government on the use of the cassava flour enhancer but lamented that the item is unavailable.

He said: “I am fully aware of the cassava flour project and I am a member of the oversight committee on Cassava Flour. It is a welcome development. It will help farmers to make profit from their goods. It will help master bakers to make profit. If it had not been for cassava flour, a bag of wheat flour now could have gone beyond N11,000 but the presence of cassava flour reduced the need for Wheat flour, thus forcing down its price.

“But as at now, the cassava flour is there but we are not using it because there is no acceptable improver (enhancer). The enhancer that government trained us with is an enzyme which is produced in South Africa and it is costly.”

The AMBN President said that unless the government provides them with the enzyme known as Bakesure, no sensible baker would want to use cassava flour to bake bread because it would bring great losses to him.

He said that the bakers were already negotiating with an American company producing cassava flour enzyme enhancers but added that the negotiations are yet to yield results.

The AMBN chief noted that the price of bread would still rise because the cost of wheat flour is still rising following the hike in foreign exchange rates in Nigeria.

He, therefore, urged the government to rescue bakers and bread consumers by providing special cassava flour bread-enhancers for them or have bakers continue to increase bread price.

Abanulor said that it is only by increasing bread prices that bakers could continue to stay in business, stressing that the high forex rates are affecting the cost of major ingredients for bread production which are all currently imported.
Crime‘kanu Did Not Commit Any Crime, He Should Be Freed’ – Asari Dokubo by saintmark88(op): 10:44am On Mar 17, 2016
Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Leader of Niger Delta Volunteer Peoples Force has called on the Federal Government to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained since October 2015.

Asari-Dokubo

Dakubo says Kanu has done nothing wrong and should be released and allowed to continue working towards the restoration of Biafra.

“Kanu did not commit any crime by calling for self-determination and he should be freed.

“It is never a crime to call for self-determination, thus, he should be freed. Biafrans have to put away their differences and make sure he comes out. When I was in detention, Igbo came together to bring me out. Nnamdi has done tremendously well and has shown resoluteness in the Biafra struggle. Our goal is our independence and the good of our people.

“IPOB should extend their campaign to every region in Biafraland and not just Igboland. The Biafra gospel should be preached everywhere and people should be told why they should fearlessly join in this movement.”

He lauded IPOB and Kanu for coming this far in their struggle.

“It is our collective responsibilities that will make Biafra restoration a success.

“The Biafra struggle is for everyone and no one can do it all alone, thus, everyone should do away with differences and come together to make sure Kanu is freed and Biafra is restored. Leadership should not be our interest now; everyone should focus on our goal, which is the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra.

“Any Biafran who wants to deny the fact that Kanu catalysed this quest for Biafra independence is lying to himself; it is an obvious truth.

“This is not time to nurse grudges against one another so that our enemies will not take advantage of it and then use it against us.

“ I urge every Biafran to be strong and also call for the release of our brother, Kanu,” he affirmed.

I hate the importation of grass part. For f.uck sake we have large reserved land which can be use for planting of grasses for the cows. Those selling goat, sheep and horses in the south western state buy dry hay from the market and it is enough for all the animals kept in store for sales.

The period of 18 months is long enough for us to have a field where grass would be planted to feed cows. Those ranches in Ogun and Ondo state do not import grasses but source them from surroundings, buying at cheap cost and improving the income of some local grass sources. Importation will only take our money to foreign countries. Job opportunities will be thrown to foreign nations. And our farmers will be left to increases the riches of other countries.

Government should separate some pieces of land in every state where people who have interest in planting grass can use at a token price. This will in another round provide opportunity for wealth creation.
He didn't say he was going to import grasses, he said he would import improved grass SEEDS for planting .....

CrimeBoko Haram Will Be Completely Eliminated In Nigeria – Buratai by saintmark88(op): 10:19am On Mar 16, 2016
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, says he is confident that Boko Haram will be eliminated in Nigeria, as troops fighting insurgents in the northeast are doing so with utmost commitment and renewed zeal.He gave the assurance on Tuesday at the office of the Oyo State Governor during his one-day familiarisation tour of the Two Division of Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo in Ibadan.

According to Buratai, the intensity of the onslaught against terrorism has been increased and this has resulted in the noticeable reduction of attacks in the region.

Although, it may seem unending to many Nigerians who have had to cope with the consequences of the Boko Haram terror, he added that the military was committed to ending the insurgency.

“Terrorism is a global phenomenon. It may seem unending but I want to assure you that here in Nigeria, we are working hard to ensure that the Boko Haram terrorists are completely eliminated. We still have some remnants of them but we are closing up and clearing them by the day,” he said.

Citizens’ Support

Buratai, however, stated that for the country to totally wipe out the terrorists, it required the support of the citizenry while stressing that the “insurgents live among the people and they are everywhere”.He said that the Motorbike Battalion established by the Nigerian Army had added more capacity and the ability to move quickly to wherever insurgents were.

In his remark, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Moses Adeyemo, expressed delight at the recent feat achieved by the Army in suppressing the insurgents.

He urged the military not to relent until peace is restored to all affected areas.

Earlier at the Two Mechanised Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, the General Officer Commanding, Major General Laz Ilo, led the Chief of Army staff to commission a newly built single officers transit chalet and an 18-bedded Buratai chalet at the cantonment.
CrimeExclusive: Sister Of Late Doctor Killed In Accident Caused By Ibinabo Fiberesima by saintmark88(op): 10:01am On Mar 16, 2016
Biola Giwa-Adeyemi is late Dr Giwa's sister and she wanted to shed more light on the case between Ibinabo Fiberersima Vs Lagos State. Read what she sent in below...
First of all, the case was between Lagos state Government Vs Ibinabo Febresima but not Giwa Vs Ibinabo Febresima. On this faithful day of Feb 26th 2006 along the Lekki Epe Express way, my late brother Dr Giwa was driving with his brother and another family friend in his car coming from a meeting in Ajah, they were held up in a traffic around the evening time, when this tragic accident happened.

Ibinabo was driving towards Lekki while the late Dr Giwa was coming from the other direction facing towards Island, just by shop-rite, when ibinabo's jeep flipped and lost control from her lane jumped over the culvert or pavement that demarcate the road from the on coming vehicle. The speed that skipped and flipped a jeep over the road demarcation will be considered "Reckless and Endangerment" because the VIO dept checked the jeep brakes, the engine and all the mechanical and electrical of the jeep but the result shows nothing wrong with the jeep and confirm that the accident as due to "OVER SPEEDING" in which the result was on record.

After the accident, Ibinabo left the scene of the accident without checking for any survivors, she took the license plate and registration out of the car and fled from the scene, that was considered "HIT AND RUN". The people at the scene of the accident recognized her as Ibinabo Febresima, and stated she was drunk."Driving Under Influence" of whatever she had. The State Department of Transportation has to use the VIN number to locate the Owner of the jeep, in which the owner was Daniel Wilson. That was my very first time of hearing the name of Ibinabo Febresima. The Doctor died at the scene of the accident because the jeep was on top of the Honda accord driven by him and they couldn't save him on time because of the seat belt and the weight of the jeep, the brother and the other family friend in that car had survived. Did she know the state of mind and the emotional instability of the people involved in that accident up till now, Ibinabo has never been in a Comma.
After all the evidences against her, with the result of the VIO by the State department of Transportation, The DPP office took over and charged her to court and she hired Festus Kiamo in which after reviewing the case he withdrew by saying he cannot represent her because it's a bad case.

Doctor Giwa has a living mother for goodness sake, wife with 3 children's, Ibinabo deprived him from seeing his children graduate from university and getting married, also from being the one to bury his mother at her old age, "Whereas no one ever prayed that on the day of their children's success and happiness they should replaced them with someone else".
Ibinabo was never remorseful, they brought her to meet with me shortly after my brother's death in GRA Ikeja before my return back to the USA, but her only concern then was to drop the charges against her. I told her that it's not my family Vs her but the State Vs her, that where I come from in USA that we do not interfere with the justice system, that they should do their job and advise her to apologize publicly to the masses and to the family and throw herself to the mercy of the court. She said and l quote "I CAN'T DO THAT, BECAUSE IS GOING TO DAMAGE MY CAREER" what an ego, she cannot apologize publicly, I feel like kicking her ass. She's worried about her stupid career, What happened to the career of the Doctor, who happened to be a 'MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION MEDICINE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL LAGOS.
People say there is no justice in Nigeria, but it does once in awhile. The lower court magistrate O.A Isaac found her guilty with the option of 100,000.00 Naira, which is considered a judicial recklessness, 100k does not even buy an iPad, the life of someone does not worth more that 100k, so that people will take the liberty of committing crimes. Later Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of the High court find her guilty and overturn the option of fine and gave her 5 yrs in prison, she spent 3 weeks and came out on bail to go to Court of Appeal, however, how can a convicted person came out on bail, here in USA you will be in jail and they will transport you to and from each time you have an hearing. Finally Appeal court found her guilty and sentence her to 5 years imprisoned.
Let her face the wrath, it is said that you can run but can't hide, it's a law of Kama that catch up, This will serve as a deterrent to others. Who will believe after 10yrs she will still be slammed, The Family of the late Dr Giwa had moved on with our life's, She was forgiven, it was very difficult and painful, but God gave us especially his mother and children the fortitude to bear the loss.
On behalf of our families and friends, we really thank the Lagos State Government, The attorney general Mr Sasore, DPP Mrs Odutola and colleagues, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi, Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Justice U.I Udukwe-Anyawu and Justice Tijani Abubakar and everyone for their support, no evil shall befall anyone, as you all go out and come in, may God's grace and protection abide with each and everyone. 'JUSTICE AT LAST' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUSTICE AT LAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUSTICE IS FINALLY DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!.
"IBINABO HAS NEVER PAID A DIME TO ANY FAMILY MEMBER OF THE LATE DR GIWA AS INDICATED BY HER FRIEND'S, AND IF SHE DID PAY ANY FAMILY MEMBER, SHE NEEDS TO START MENTIONING NAMES NOW".
PoliticsCourt Asks Rickey Tarfa To Face Trial by saintmark88(op): 9:29am On Mar 16, 2016
Presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris on Tuesday upheld the EFCC’s preliminary objection to Mr Tarfa’s 2.5billion Naira fundamental enforcement rights suit.

The court ordered a stay of proceedings pending the conclusion of Mr Tarfa’s trial at the Lagos State High Court.

He had sued the EFCC for allegedly violating his rights after he was arrested on charges of obstructing the work of the commission and perverting the course of justice.

Mr Tarfa demanded N2.5bn as damages. He also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the anti-graft agency and its agents from further violating his rights. He also wanted a public apology, as well as the release of his telephones and SUV which were seized by the EFCC.

The EFCC, through their lawyer, Wahab Shittu, however filed a notice of preliminary objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction on the ground that Mr Tarfa’s prayers following his arraignment on the charges at the Lagos State High Court had become academic and hypothetical.

Mr Shittu asked the court to decline jurisdiction in view of the pending criminal charge or in the alternative stay proceedings pending the conclusion of the criminal case against the Senior Advocate.

Justice Idris, however, dismissed the EFCC’s objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter but he agreed with the Commission when he held that it would be “inelegant” for him to make any orders that will undermine the authority of another court of coordinate jurisdiction or bring the judiciary to “ridicule”.

He noted that unless he stays action, there is a real risk of serious prejudice which could lead to potential injustice for the EFCC.

In the interest of justice, the judge ordered a stay of further proceedings in the civil suit pending the determination of the criminal proceedings before the Lagos State High Court.

Counsel to Mr Tarfa, Mr George Oguntade (SAN) declined to comment on the matter but counsel to the EFCC said that it was a brave verdict.

While the order to stay proceedings in this case subsists, Justice Idris said that the EFCC shall ensure respect for the fundamental rights and liberties of Mr Rickey Tarfa as guaranteed by law, including the right to have the criminal charge prosecuted expeditiously.

Mr Rickey Tarfa was not in court for the verdict in his fundamental rights enforcement suit.
