An operations manager of a new generation bank in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Folorunso Ademola Rasaq, has confessed before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, that the Branch Manager of the Bank, Iwejuo Joseph Nna, was the account officer to Ebiwise Resources Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited, Rotato Inter-link Services Limited and Pluto Property & Investment Company Limited.

The four companies are being prosecuted by the EFCC on a 23-counts charge of concealment and retention of proceeds of crime to the tune of over N1,667,162,800.00 (One billion, six hundred and sixty seven million, one hundred and sixty two thousand, eight hundred Naira). The accused persons are: Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa, Iwejuo Joseph Nna a.k.a. Taiwo A. Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isaiah. Justice Idris adjourned the case till September 26, 2016 for continuation of trial.

A BRT bus has been involved in an accident at Mile 12 area, inward Owode Onirin on Ikorodu road, Lagos State. The bus veered off the road and jumped on top of the rail along the road. No severe injury or death was recorded. See more photos…

This is a statement released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency regarding the multiple vehicle accident that occurred at the Oworonshoki end of the 3rd mainland bridge Sunday, September 11th:

The Agency received an alert via Emergency number of an accident at third mainland bridge inwards Iyana Oworo on 11th of September 2016. This prompted immediate activation of the Agency's ERT to the scene of the incident . Preminary Investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a Commercial bus(FST-668XR) somersault at top speed and landed on a BMW car(KRD-294CN).

There was no loss of life recorded however ten casualties were recorded. The injured victims were treated while some were rushed to the trauma centre by LASAMBUS.

The Agency's ERT, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State Fire Service were the responder present at the scene of the incident for Traffic control, Crowd control, Recovery operation. The vehicles have been cleared off the road for vehicular movement. The LASEMA General Manager Mr. Michael Akindele advised motorist to avoid over speeding

The United Nations World Food Programme has appealed to the EFCC to help the programme implement fully the mandate of providing nutrition to children in the North Eastern Nigeria.

Ramiro Lopes de Silva, who led a four man delegation to the Commission, said the Programme which is new in Nigeria is soliciting the assistance of EFCC as to address point of weakness in the chain of people and activities to avoid corruption.

He said since there will be cash transfer to the needy in some cases, the programme wants to establish a relationship with EFCC with issues of awareness of fraud in all modalities and expenditures which they want to engage in.

EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, pledged the Commission’s willingness to support the cause of the IDPs and any other such cause for humanity anytime. He therefore promised that the Commission will be willing to create desk officers who will liaise with the Programme and ensure its success

Troops of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army conducting field training exercise code named "Operation CROCODILE SMILE" have within the last 48 hours discovered and destroyed 74 illegal refineries and quite a number militants and kidnappers camps in various parts of Rivers and Bayelsa States using swan buggy and other specialists equipment.

On Wednesday, 7th September 2016 troops of Sub-Sector Bravo in response to a tip off on the presence of suspected kidnappers at Akupoku community, carried out a raid at the location. But no arrest was made as the kidnappers have fled the area.

However, the team also raided Ke community, at the verge of the Atlantic ocean where they discovered and destroyed an illegal refinery.
The troops recovered and destroyed 3 large cooking pots and 20 tanks filled with illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO).

Similarly, another set of troops also discovered and destroyed another illegal crude oil refinery at Bile. Items recovered and destroyed include 12 large refining cooking pots.

The troops exercising along Abonnema axis were also informed of the presence of suspected kidnappers at Abakrikri Fishing Pot, they swung into action and carried out cordon and search operation, however, no contact or arrest was made.

The troops of 130 Battalion also raided suspected kidnappers camp at Awukiri. Although no contact was made, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle empty magazine, 6 face masks, 1 machete and several empty shells of expended ammunitions.

The troops destroyed the camp. The troops have also intensified search for the kidnappers nests and other criminal elements camp for clearance.

The Medical unit of 2 Brigade has been dispensing free medical service at Twon Brass in Bayelsa State. The troops would continue their field training exercise, while the humanitarian assistance will continue with provision of educational materials and free medical assistance to the host communities this Friday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has given the order for the reduction of the number of aircrafts in his presidential fleet.

Spokesperson to the president on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known on Thursday Sept 8, 2016 evening.
He wrote on Twitter: “There is a govt committee already in place, working to reduce the number of aircraft in the presidential fleet.”

“Some aircraft will be boarded, some others returned to the Air Force for operations. The Change is here.”

Critics of Buhari say the government has not done enough to end Nigeria’s worst economic crisis for decades.

Many state governors are not paying salaries and tens of thousands of workers have been laid off, while companies across sectors say they cannot get enough hard currency to import spare parts or raw materials.

The Edo State governorship election is to go ahead, sources in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC despite security concerns raised by the Police and the Department of State Services, DSS. Confidential sources told Vanguard on Thursday morning that the commission took the decision after consultation with the security agencies and meetings among senior officials of INEC.

A statement to that effect Vanguard learnt is being prepared and is to be issued within hours. Controversy stoked preparations for the Edo elections on Wednesday when the police and DSS issued a joint statement advising INEC to postpone the election on the claim that they had intelligence reports of a planned attack by insurgents or terrorists in some states between September 12 and 13.

The claim was immediately rebuffed by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which said that the planned attack while not specific to Edo State, was timed after the September 10, election.

The Federal Government has described attempts by unscrupulous individuals on social media linking the government and Dangote group with a plan to ‘flood’ the country with genetically modified rice (GMO) as extremely uncharitable.

In real terms, the Federal Government in 2014 signed a $1billion Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) for investment in integrated rice project with Dangote Industries Ltd. Further to this agreement, Dangote Industries Limited this year cultivated over 8,000 hectares in Hadejia, Jigawa state, creating over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for farmers who are the major beneficiaries of the scheme.

In consolidation of the rice project of the Federal Government, President Muhammadu Buhari administration is also in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other reputable companies to tap into the vast potentials in the private sector and broadening the economic base of the country.

The gains of the diversification drive especially in the Agriculture sector are already yielding dividends as shown by the recent statistics in the sector as published by the National Bureau of Statistics.

These engagements will continue until the present administration has laid a solid foundation for the economic development of the nation.
It is therefore ridiculous that a government that is wholly devoted to the generation of employment for Nigerians especially through Agriculture will turn around to get involved in an activity that will reverse the gains of the same partnership.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said it repeatedly that, ‘’we have the capacity to feed ourselves in Nigeria and even export from what we produce in the country.” He has also said that through the provision of N200 billion by the CBN for small holder farmers and processors involved in local production of rice and other grains, rice importation will hopefully stop in the next three years.

It is unfortunate that while the Buhari administration is working assiduously with well-meaning Nigerians to bring the country out of the current economic situation it has found itself, a few self-serving individuals are bent on distracting the administration from the avowed focus to reflate the fortunes of the country through the diversification of the economy which, very soon, Nigerians will begin to see and experience the results.

The Federal Government warns purveyors of such malicious information and those thinking of embarking on the same route to have a rethink and retrace their steps.
