Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a 19-year-old National Diploma holder of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, for plotting to blackmail popular artiste, Salawa Abeni.

The suspect, Olufowoke Emmanuel, said to be a resident of Ogun State, was picked up by the decoy team of the RRS last Thursday.

The police were said to have been trailing Emmanuel for three days.

The artiste recently went on social media to raise the alarm over plans to blackmail her with her nude photos.


She posted her WhatsApp conversation with the suspect and the purported old photos he planned to use for the blackmail.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, was said to have in April 2020, directed the Commander, RRS, DCP Olatunji Disu, to fish out the blackmailer.

After the technical diagnosis of the complaint, the decoy team was said to have narrowed down on him.


The police said Emmanuel could not be picked immediately because of the prevalence of the COVID-19, adding that he was later arrested.

The suspect, in his statement to the police, allegedly confessed to the crime, saying he wanted to extort money from the artiste.

The Electrical Engineering graduate, reportedly said he saw the nude pictures in a memory card he picked up on the floor in YABATECH in November 2019.

He added that after downloading the photographs on his phone, he got Abeni’s mobile number from her Instagram page.

“On 1st of April, 2020, I chatted her up and also called her after sending a few of the photos to her online.

“My intention was to negotiate with her for a few bucks and for me to destroy the photographs.

“I thought everything was going on fine until the following day when I heard the news of the blackmail over the radio.


“I was with my mother. She even cursed the blackmailer unknown to her that I was the one behind it.

“I immediately sneaked out, destroyed the memory card, and threw my mobile phone and SIM card into a nearby wetland in Magboro.

“Since then, I never mentioned it to anyone and called Madam Salawa Abeni about it again,” he said.

The Lagos CP, Odumosu, said no individual would be allowed to commit a crime in Lagos from any state or escape to other states in Nigeria to evade arrest.


He advised parents to monitor their children, emphasising that the Internet was a fertile ground for opportunities but the command would not allow criminals to use it to exploit law-abiding residents.

The General public are hereby notified for their guidance, that the of Africa (NBM) worldwide as a non-violent Organisation is not engaged in any armed conflict of any kind with any person, groups or associations in view of the current crisis being witnessed in Benin city.
This clarification became necessary to clear growing insinuations being peddled by unscrupulous persons seeking ways to fan the embers of acrimony to the effect that our group rebranded for excellence were perhaps involved or engaged in a conflict of any kind with other organizations.
For the avoidance of doubts and in a bid to constantly keep its members under its radar of control, the leadership of the zone has directed All its forum coordinators to be good ambassadors of peace and ensure the sustenance of peace and tranquility in their various areas of coverage or jurisdictions.
The leadership of the Zone hereby place on record, that it has sternly warned its members to remain peaceful as any breach of public peace in any jurisdiction within Benin zone, shall result in immediate chastisement of such coordinator who would not only be severely sanctioned but would be vicariously held responsible for any breach of peace if he can not give detailed report of what transpired in such Jurisdiction. This is in addition to being handed over to appropriate security operatives (DSS & POLICE) for interrogation and appropriate punishment.
It should be emphasized that this clarification arose from the outcome of an emergency meeting with security operatives in the state in which NBM OF AFRICA disassociated itself from the ongoing jingoism between other organizations not connected to our group.

When you speak out, things happen and that's why I said I will be done with this issues this year 2019 and behold here we are... I can say that the 50 Million defamation suit filed against me by Mr Innocent Idibia aka 2face and his manager Mr Efe Omorogbe has been settled out of court as they both have withdrawn their case filed against me
It's true that they sang my song without permission and truly it pissed me off, but that doesn't legally make them thieves as the lawyers made me to understand
Sometimes the words we use matter, that's why I apologised for using that word when my lawyers advised me...Finally they admitted they made mistakes with my songwriters and publishers rights which they should have informed me before but they never did ,they have promised to rectify them so we wait and I hope they honour this this time and furnish me details to that effect .
