I am currently looking to purchase a diagnostic scanner for my personal use. Have checked out this particular model on Amazon (INNOVA 3140 Diagnostic Code Scanner for OBDI and OBDII Vehicles). It's retailing for $199. What's your opinion and can you recommend a better tool. Am also buying it in conjunction with OBD-II & Electronic Engine Management Systems Techbook (Haynes Techbook) [Paperback]. Thanks !!!

Nice post. Thanks for all the information. This is a very important thread as a lot of car problems can be easily traced and diagnosed wth an OBDII scan. Now, what kind of scanner will you recommend for use on Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc (japanese vehicles) that are typically used in Nigeria ?! Secondly, how does the scanner present the results and how is it interpreted ?! Thanks

many posters have made contributions on the history of VINS and their use in the identification of a vehicle. However, nobody has still broken down how to interpret a vehicles VIN number to identify the date of manufacture.

Glo Bleep up big time now. Have already migrated my BIS subscription to Airtel. Have been using glo BIS for over 2yrs but when they reduced the caps, I saw no need for staying with them as Airtel has 3G service in Yola. Been streaming videos and downloading apps & songs faster since. Might check back sha after the expiry of the subscription. Am sure Glo saw a massive reduction in their BIS subscriptions & superior competition form Etisalat & Airtel. Competition good o.

You don sabi that location wella. It's like that location siddon on top all the bandwidth for Nigeria. It doesn't matter whether its MTN, Airtel, Glo or Etisalat. You get incredible speeds. Thats my favorite spot to browse in Nigeria. Dis Yola wey i dey na hell-hole wallahi. Thank God for office internet & Airtel 3G. Only things keeping me sane.

Here's a screenshot i took yesterday in the afternoon on the Airtel network . As you can see, it's blazing fast. Location: Bank Road, Jimeta. As i said earlier your location & BTS determines the quality of service you will get. Yola Town usually has issues compared to Jimeta. Maybe Airtel is overloaded in your area. Coincidentally, Glo is poor at my area which was why i transitioned over to Airtel and it has been fun since. That is the problem we face across all the telecoms providers in Nigeria. Nobody is good across the entire country.

Can you kindly help in explaining what is involved in calculating the import duty of a car ? Is there a fixed percentage, price of the car, date of manufacture etc. Will really appreciate the info. On a side note, how much will it cost to clear the following:
1. 2007 Toyota Corolla LE
2. 2007 Honda Accord EX
3. 2008 Honda Accord EXL

Can see we are still fighting the good fight against those telecoms operators. More grease to your elbows. But to add a little to the topic especially on the Airtel issue here in Yola, their network is not that bad. Honestly speaking, if i was to rate them against Glo, i will pick Airtel hands down. Since i changed from Glo to Airtel for my BIS subscription, my Blackberry is constantly on full 3G and i stream You tube videos on my phone. When browsing on my modem (Night Plan 3GB N2500), i lock the signal to 3G only and the speed just takes off. My downloading rate is a steady 200KB+ on Internet Download Manager and yea that is in Yola. One thing i have learnt about the Telecoms operators is the lack of consistency in their operations. You can be in location A with a BTS that's full of users chocking up the network while just across the road in location C there's hardly any traffic on it. Both MTN, Glo, Airtel & Etisalat give you incredible speeds at one location and then totally mess it up in the next. So, please let's try and keep the providers on their toes by offering us better quality service and increasing the bandwidth size on their plans.

Don't even get me started on that one. My PS3 is on lock down from the internet sef. Used to get super fast 3G+ speeds in Kaduna at one of my locations, sadly glo EDGE is unstable in my new location. Just managing Airtel 3G.

I recently came across an advert by Slot on their website for those interested in pre-ordering the Balckberry Z10 device. The phone is retailing for N100,000 from the GSM operators but Slot is selling theirs for N98,000 with a deposit of N20,000 first. Has anybody pre-ordered yet and what was your experience ?! Coz am waiting to see who how Slot will handle those customers

Airtel is very stable in area. Try locking your signal to 3G only and see if it improves your browsing speeds.
