Kandeed:That's a wrong assumption, the Super Tucano, a turbo propeller driven jet is specifically designed for counter insurgency operations. It's has sufficient loiter time, I.e. it can hover/ hang around targets and deliver bombs or packets with relative precision, an advantage which the fast moving Jets like F-7s or Alphas do not possess. As a result they over run their target area n hit de wrong mark, a situation that occurred in Rann - Borno state where an IDP camp was inadvertently bombed. |
sslcrypt:Most times, since choppers are vulnerable to RPG or rocket attack launched from the ground the NAF usually goes on missions with a combination of choppers, ISR ( Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) planes together with fighter jets (usually Alphas or F-7s) the ISR equipped with powerful radar or cameras pin point targets, the jets take them out while the choppers mop up softer targets. With this arrangement the choppers are relatively safe. |
Babanah:They were able to hit the alpha Jet because he was flying at a very low altitude which was well within de range of their anti aircraft guns. Because the Jets do not have sufficient loiter time or precision bombs they have to fly very low in order to lob their bombs. That's why the Tucano jets and attack helicopters come in handy because they can loiter or hang over target area and do their thing. The Alphas are not designed for ground attack, they're mainly jet trainers. The NAF had to improvise and make do with what they had. |
[quote author=sslcrypt post=103868826]Thank God he made back alive. There are couple of things we can deduce from this event that took place. Infiltration of bandits operational network haven't been achieved because there is heavy dependence on air force for intelligence gathering. This is done mostly from air Also the bandits capabilities is increasing because for them to be able to hit the jet it means they utilize surface to air missile which have the capability via heat sensor to break through the safety region jet fighters operate within when engaging ground enemies. If the latter stands true then the challenge is taking another dynamics because further acquisition of such weapons would mean the bandits would be able to create a killzone. A kill zone from air perspective is when bandits operates on higher ground such as rocky areas to gain a vantage point on any fighter jet or gunship aircraft. So a false flag is initiated to draw the ground troops into a combat scene, knowing fully well there would be air support. When the air support shows up they will go for the kill. The one efficient way jets can maneuver such surface to air missile is the use of gravity. That is heading into high altitudes to gas out the missiles. More must be done to counter the move of such weapons into Nigeria. There are very few in the black market and in very high demand. So the counterintellige unit of the army can deduce who's meeting meeting to make sales. They were able to hit the alpha Jet because he was flying at a very low altitude which was well within de range of their anti aircraft guns. |
The guy na God son, That's the chief of Air staff boy. He had to deploy all critical assets to ensure the guy emerged alive. Thank God what happened to WG CDR Hedima didn't repeat itself. ( he was beheaded by Boko haram after he successfully raided their enclave) go boy. Crack Mogese. |
dmbb:They're Fulani, because that is their modus operandi, this is not the first time they've been killing in that axis. For more than 10 years the carnage has been ongoing. |
uuzba:When buying a plane / jet, a lot of factors are put into consideration, apart from the unit cost of the platform, the cost of maintenance, spare parts, training of pilots and technicians together with armament are all factored into the total cost, which invariably makes the deal to be very expensive. Aside from that international law also applies as well, for Instance, the Leahy act / law ( named after Senator Leahy) bars a user of US military hard ware or equipment from selling it to a third party without authorization from the US government. Especially if the third party is indicted for human right violations. That was why Isreal refused to sell some attack helicopters to Nigeria during GEJ tenure, and he had to resort to the black market. |
uuzba:At no point in time did NAF possess harriers in it's inventory, we have Alpha Jets which has a similar appearance with Harriers. We have procured, Jaguar seepcats, Mig - 21 ( most of which have been decommissioned) F-7s, J -17 Thunder and super Tucanos which have been recently purchased. |
What do you expect when a Certain "Gambo" is the chief of Naval staff? No be small thing oh!

[quote author=QuotaSystem post=103550733]Buhari's agenda is to work for Nigeria. You must be wishing it was Saraki and his pretentious patriotism that earned him the boot right? Come Baba, do you have a conscience or sense of propriety? Our argument here has to do with impartiality, by being a card carrying member of APC (though she expects us to believe she no longer is) establishes a case of implicit bias, it can't be guaranteed that she'll neutral or sit by the fence when handling a case that concerns her party. Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa had to recuse herself from a presidential election tribunal simply because her husband ( mind you, not her) was an APC senator from Bauchi. In summary, you can't be a judge in your own case or simply put, a cockroach cannot be considered innocent in a gathering of fowls. |

hybridblood07:Abeg no make me laugh, you can't compare NDA with Sandhurst and others? For starters, Apart from sister sub saharan African countries, which foreign cadet do we have in NDA? Are the best Army cadet in any particular course not sent to Sandhurst? I can vividly remember cadets from 54RC -58RC were regularly sent to Hellenic Military and Air force Academy in Greece for training. Some were even sent to West point in US for training. Abeg NDA still de learn work for where those Academy are mentioned. |
hybridblood07:Did I hear you say "Discipline"? Cadets that constitute nuisance in public? Beat up civilians and stop traffic arbitrarily! all in the name of " Plumming 101" no be female cadet beat up a civilian in Jabi park - Abuja some years ago simply because he complimented her looks? Is that what you call Discipline? Have you heard of Cadets from world class Academies like Sandhurst, Hellenic Military Academy or Westpoint comporting themselves in that manner? Guy abeg park well. |
ComrdDRS1:For your Info, I am from Benue and can confidently tell you that Ortom has not done well, his admin has been very dismal. |
ComrdDRS1:Na courage we go chop? Ortom has virtually nothing to show for his 6 years stewardship, no meaningful and tangible project to show. Once month wan end Na to the shout Fulani killers etc. |
Misplaced priority. Will Nnamdi Kanu's capture or escape stop the banditry happening in the north? Or is MNK responsible for the fact that your people can't travel from Kaduna to Kano or katsina to Abuja without fear of being killed or kidnapped? is he responsible for your inability to even go to the farms again? I honestly wonder how we ended up sharing the same country with this crop of people! Instead of this Arewa people to hold their leaders accountable for the high level of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, out of school kids and insecurity they're here spewing trash. |
Kaduna1stson:Why didn't you request that the same DSS ( Daura secret service) arrest Northern Governors when they hold their meetings and make a case for open grazing and murderous Fulani herdsmen?

Sebastine1994:For your Info, Abiy Ahmed is a Christian, though most of his family members are Muslims. |
ba7man:Number 1 on that list is Sabiu "Tunde" Yusuf. Buhari's nephew and PA who prior to 2015 was a rcard vendor in Daura. Please explain how a rcard vendor has amassed so much wealth in less than 5 years that he was able to purchase expensive houses both in Abuja and Kaduna? He single handedly appointed his father in law Dr Jamoh as MD of NIMASA. Can Hadiza Usman of NPA explain the Non - remittance of over #160B to government coffers? What of Babacir Lawal's grass cutter gate or Late Abba Kyari's MTN bribery saga? |
Emily22:A major side effect of using Vega is head ache. |
