Someone is trying to derank one of my sites
Two of my links went off google front page within 72hrs

I noticed the first link was getting hits from different IPs within close range at 10 - 25 minutes interval, this went on for about 24hrs and the link was totally off google when I search for it. (still ranking on Bing though)

The same thing happened to the second link.

I know this won't stop, I need to do something to prevent more of this and right now I am totally clueless about what to do.

That .com is very popular does not mean it is the best. Domains are classified into different tiers. .com, .org, .net, .gov, .biz and .edu all fall under Top Level Domains (TLD). The TLD is further broken down as ccTLD, sTLD, and gTLD. Of these domains, .com is the most popular but not the best. If .com is the best as claimed, why do you think Google gives credence to sites with .edu and .gov backlinks? Why not the 'best' which .com?

As per data, except you are running a trial and error site whereby you download heavy sized-themes and plug-ins today, uninstall them tomorrow, download new ones thereafter, trust me, you don't need to break your bank just to buy data to blog. What should be taken into consideration is the frequency of new contents. If it's a site whereby you only post twice a week, then you need not bother about heavy data since you are only posting new contents eight times a month.

Believe me when I say getting backlinks are quite easy than write ups make them appear. I might reveal the trick someday but it isn't now. It is about looking in the right places.

.edu and .gov backlinks are tough to get. I have none on my sites two of my sites rank incredibly well. Safe to say you experience this difficulty. There is no short cut to breaking even, SERP-wise. As a blogger, working hard is key but it isn't the ultimate. Working smart is.

Plus, submitting backlinks aren't as difficult as many think they are. All you just need to do is target certain areas where your blog can easily be seen.

You don't need 100 backlinks with tiny PRs as they are waste of time. Target 10-15 sites with very high PR and DA and watch the magic.

On number 5, '.com' is just a a domain extension and it has no super leverage over other extensions. Every Jack and John tend to believe that a website's address must end with .com, which is false. There are some extensions now that are incredibly enjoying Google's SR's first page and they are not .com.

I finally did it now, after series of rigorous thinking, In fact I kept thinking about it while in church today. After much thinking I was able to find out that the images all have unique ID, it is this ID that needs to be entered into the pages shotcode. This will change the background image of the header.

The next question was how to find the image ID, since I already narrowed what I think the solution could be, i went straight to Google to search how to find image ID in WP, i didn't even know it was just a simple mouseover will show the ID at the base of the browser. I got the ID, inserted it into the page shotcode and Viola.. It worked.

I understand that method you are talking about. The issue I have now is I have up to 5 pages with the same background but all the pages needs to have different images. If I do that method you said, It will affect the whole pages. What I want is all the 5pages to have different URL background image. Initially what I did when creating the pages was to do copy and paste with the hope of changing the image when I finally get them

Well, not to waste time, the below should for you:


1. Look for the code that exists in the <div id="header"> and <div id="logo"> and (in the following image) <div id="splash"> HTML tags (I believe you have done this already).

2. There you will most likely find the URL path to where the header image is hosted, something like this: http://www.domain-name/wp-content/themes/theme-name/images/image-name.jpg

3. You might need to head to your CPANEL/file manager and go into your root folder. You need to log in to the file manager and click down into a path similar to the one where the header image is located, something like “/home/userdirectory/public_html/wp-content/themes/theme-name/images/image-name.jpg”.

4. Right-click on the existing header image file and rename it to something like “image-name-old.jpg.”
PS: DON'T DELETE IT JUST YET!

5. Upload the new header image to that specific directory. Make sure that the new image file name is exactly that of the old image file name.

6. Clear your browser cache and reload your site's homepage.

I believe this should settle it.

No, not the logo. The Image is being used as a backgroud for the header section of the pages.

By Header image I believe you mean the logo? If yes/no, the said image should be in your Wordpress media repository (library). You might want to upload your own image to the library first before removing the previous. That said, the theme's documentation is like a manual. You should look it up when you have difficulties.

The big sites have already been ranked on Google front page. I was watching a video about SEO on YouTube when the guy said SEO takes years to work. He further said that it takes years to establish domain authority which is what Google uses to rank sites on its search engine. The best way to rank on Google and build high traffic is by running ads. Those big sites spend a lot on ads even till now and that's why they stay on top. You clearly have no idea. A website I created in April presently has a DA of 36 with massive backlinks and is targeted at Nigerian audience. Another I designed and launched just two weeks ago's DA is just 2 but all its posts are scattered on Google and is already getting traffic.

If you know the number of contents you copied from high profile sites, start revisiting them, do some research about the topics and add some original contents therein. DO NOT DELETE THEM!

If you eventually get your Adsense approved, you should be wary of scraped contents as it might have your Adsense account suspended or banned. Google has made it clear several times that the best way to use a scraped content is is adding more valuable contents to the contents you scraped.

About your domain name, there's nothing wrong in using '.com.ng'. What I meant is, it's cheap and getting another with a generic name will be best rather than getting a specific. Your sight might do well with SERP so long bet9ja's name is queried but what happens when they do others? It is possible you work your way to making others come up SERP-wise, but the domain name is too specific.
