Well, these agents of darkness were able to rig in 2007, but today, because of the political will of the current leadership, rigging was not the order of the day. GEJ has done well.
Goodluck Jonathan has done well. This is the first set of credible elections since 1993. I believe the next thing is to try and sustain this momentum. For this, I have a greater level of trust for him. Considering that some of his opponents never even thought of putting down a transition program when they were in the same position, I say Goodluck has ushered in an era of change and accountability.
With the level of awareness we are seeing today, as evidenced by the number of people coming out to vote, rigging will be a thing of the past in the next 4 years. Our collective resolve to vote can only mean we will ultimately take our future in our hands.
Adanora: Aboki people can keep killin themselves afterall their population 2 much self. Let Buhari & his Taliban group continue plannin on how 2 kill more people while we keep votin. Whether they like it or nt, Fresh air is blowin all over Nigeria, we can feel it. Dis is one of d best election ever held in Nigeria. Weldone INEC. We re proud of u GEJ. Still on d race, we will surely get der. GOODLUCK NIGERIA
Guy, what rubbish are you writing on this thread. This is exactly the kind of attitude that keeps us divided in unity; or is it united in division?
wikitruth: I escaped been lynched today by PDP guys who accused me of trying to video happening at the polling booth. It was really crazy, b/c I was not saying anything against anybody. As a matter of fact, I was gisting and chatting with the pdp guys just before then. They seized my phone but could not see any video recording in my phone. If not for good rapour I have with a politician there, those boys carried planks and are ready to beat me. One of them even carried hammer. They accused me I was recording because I am not an indigene of the area. I stay in ND but from SW. God have mercy on us. Terrible, terrible really!!! Pls don't ask me what the securities guys are doing because they were just looking. Really terrible, I must confess. I just cats my vote and was waiting for them to start counting and not doing anything even though I saw people voting two times and they refused to give number of accredited in the unit. The incident really saddened me about how people can just go against you simply because you are not one of them. Again, one boy that knew me as a SW person, had to bundle me away in his car secretly. There is no law in this country really and we have a long way to go. May God save Nigeria.
Thank God for your life. This kind of behavior is exhibited mainly by backward people. Thank God for the reasonable, progressive human being who offered you shelter. Too many thugs in Naija
dayokanu: Breaking News : Violence in Delta and bayelsa, I guess these Abokis have moved to GEJS home state to discredit?
or are GEJ' brothers trying to discredit him also?
All this violence will get us nowhere. I think the problem is that there are too many thugs in Nigeria without a decent job. These are the ones now being used by irresponsible politicians to carry out the mayhem. The thing tire me.
A bomb blast had occurred at a polling centre at Unguwar Doki of Maiduguri metropolis and injured more than ten people. The hands and legs of a police woman who was stationed at the centre were chopped off while the two eyes of the presiding officer were flocked out by the ravaging blast which occurred around 11.50am shortly before the commencement of voting.
Dozens of military personnel and anti bomb squad of the police were seen at the scene. Though the commandant of the Joint Task Force (JTF), a lieutenant colonel was seen at the scene, he did not speak to journalist.
Witnesses said it will be difficult to identify the people that dropped the bomb as everybody at the scene was seen as a potential voter.
“I am afraid, the police woman and the INEC man may likely die because of the intensity of the injuries they sustained,” one of the witnesses said. Most of the victims were taken to the emergency unit of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
What do they want to achieve with all these murders? I hate it when these cowardly people just kill as if they can give life. efisher, what does the line in red mean? Don't tell me daily Trust wrote this down this way?
The death of any human being brings sadness to well meaning people. That the human beings in question are corp members who are serving their father land in a purely civil capacity, makes my heart heavy. May they rest in peace.
A lot of Nigerians benefited from the missionary schools of the past. A lot benefited from the missionary hospitals. You see some of the orthodox churches still practicing these charitable endeavors. Some of these new age churches just cannot be bothered with charitable works of the Lord.
Decades ago, a man and his cohorts truncated democracy. This man gave reasons for truncating it, and did nothing to ensure that Nigerians got a more befitting democracy. He never made plans to return democracy to Nigeria, not to talk of being honest with any such plan. He did everything by military fiat and truncated a long term project that Nigerians of today would have enjoyed immensely.
Today, he wants to enjoy this same democracy at the very helm ( unfortunately, the constitution as of today does not bar coupists from contesting). He gives us a lame excuse for canceling a brilliant project. He wants us to take his word for it.
I for one, do not trust this man's sense of judgment or fairness. He will do things lopsidedly; the way he has always done things, no matter whose ox (the masses) is gored.
He is a relic from the past, and an embodiment of Nigerian past mistakes
I suggest that you all read the scripture below [1corinthians 9:3-14] and judge for yourself if Bishop has done the right thing or not.
3 This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me. 4 Don’t we have the right to food and drink? 5 Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas[a]? 6 Or is it only I and Barnabas who lack the right to not work for a living?
7 Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk? 8 Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesn’t the Law say the same thing? 9 For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.” Is it about oxen that God is concerned? 10 Surely he says this for us, doesn’t he? Yes, this was written for us, because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest. 11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? 12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more?
But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.
13 Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? 14[b]In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
I love the last paragraph but one. Paul and Barnabas put up with anything "rather than hinder the gospel of Christ". Does the purchase of jets follow this mindset? NO. The last paragraph also spoke of the command that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel. Now we need to understand the concept of "receiving a living". I don't believe it entails going on a spree of extreme conspicuous consumption at the expense of the church. That ain't right.
I still find it difficult to understand the system that allowed people like Akingbola to thrive, to the extent of siphoning private sector funds to the tune of billions of naira. Wetin I dey talk sef? Dis thing happen for yankee too nah. It's just crazy.
Noooo, ***runs away***. ***From afar*** -- That will ruin our professional relationship. Let's just make a difference in people's lives and share accruing benefits.
Just make me senior "Pastress", and I will do a door to door campaign for all Nairalanders to come to "our" church. As per sharing of things, don't worry, I am only a little greedy.
Since you were taken to the U.K. illegally, (when you were too young to understand what that meant, I believe) going back to the Nigerian Embassy to fully explain the true situation of things is indeed a good idea. Good luck
The cancellation of the project was a great disservice to Nigerians as Lagos is a home to all Nigerians. This excuse shows that the man had a very acute case of myopia.
