This is indeed an interesting topic however, am a bit confused. When you say the changing face of the African women do you mean in African countries or in the Western world. I find it sad that many African women think perming (relaxing) and weaving their hair is better than going natural.
I did not know women in Africa wore colored contacts but I have seen in America and I find it quiet disturbing, even some men here do it. In terms of revealing tops and what not I really don't have much to say about that. I do have a question though Britgirl I checked you profile and oddly enough your hair is permed (relaxed) and your whole cleavage is showing. So my question is are you shocked by the fact that African women have been captured by the Western view of beauty ( white woman standard) or is there something else your getting at?

with a melting pot like America, I'm sure they can find someone who can speak the language and seeing that it's the ISLANDS that have been winning the most in track and field, they have no excuse. Last I checked, their lingua franca is English.

When the chinese won gold for team gymnatics, they didnt even bother to show their medal ceremony even though USA came second/got the ceremony. As long as USA doesnt get the gold and have us suffer through their national anthem, they can't show the ceremonies? Seriously? I found that to be so rude.

It is especially annoying when you have lived in another country where winners are given fair air time and then come here and the US are so biased when they don't win.

All in all am glad that there are frank Nigerian Americans.

Before commenting further; a big 'Job well done' by the eagles. I took a look at the list of athletes representing Nigeria, and I came to the sad conclusion that 95% are from the south, christians, and progressive. My question is whatever happened to the supposed majority in the north? What cultural and religious obstacle is preventing them from representing the country? These people spend hours and hours gazing, starring, and admiring scantly dressed women athletes, yet they keep their own women-folk under lock, key, and covered head-to-toe with purdah. If that's not enough, these non-athletic, and sporting-no-goods are appointed to into strategic positions in the ministry of sports, to oversea games they know nothing about.

Thanks for the essay. Any ways hmmm. . . . you seem a tad bit bitter about the US. Which is understandable. Anyways as i said before everything is about image and pride. Look at Nigeria for instance. If an outsider sees the problems in Nigeria and says something. . . . watch everyone attack him like a hungry lion. They will say "What do you know? Have you lived there?" All that jive because no one wants to hear the bad when they already know it. So they rather be deceived with the good. Which is understandable. You have to remember that in the Olympics, it is USA vs. The world. Who gives a damn if you beat Great B, Italy, Germany, Mexico, and so on and so forth in a match. You might get a high five here and whoop whoop there. But if you beat USA, watch the world go crazy. So how do you not expect the US to be more competitive than any other country. They have an image to keep and defend.

Yes you are very right it is called the Olympics because Oly= USA amd mpics= the whole world. Your warped reasoning is pittiful if nothing else. Countries like Jamaica, Great Britain, Kenya, Ethiopia all did better than the Americans.
With the population and the total number of games Americans compete for. . . . . .They should be doing a tad better.

Its easy to make claims over the internet where people don't see you. I might believe you that you know more about the states than I do if I had proof you worked at the CIA or with the president (lil Bush) himself. And even then I'd have doubts you know more about America than I do. Since you don't work at any of the aforementioned you can tell the "I know more about America than you" to someone else who cares or even better keep it to yourself. Having an American passport does not phase me or anyone here for that matter.
I never pulled the I have seen the world because I've only been to three of the seven continents therefore am quiet aware that I have not seen the world. However the few places around the world I have been to with some ignorant Americans is quiet telling.

Am not accepting compliments from anyone. . . the only thing that is bothering you is that most people agree with the fact that Americans want to be on top in everything, which is understandable except the way they do it sometimes is extremely menacing.

On the Chinese, I far from adore them. I know what most Asians think of blacks and I know China's interest is only on improving their country. I know that China going to Nigeria and doing talks of building roads is only to help herself with oil and employ only Chinese people in engineering and building the roads. However, when the road wrecks then Nigerians are screwed. I know all these, and more but am willing to look at every picture before making a judgment. Thats better than being partial even when it is just plain ridiculous.

The US did well, so did team GB. China came top, nobody knows what kind of pressure or threats their athletes performed under, but they came top of the medal table.

I think team GB did a fantastic job, so did Jamaica for such a small nation.

How or where did you deduce such an opinion? I think in terms of football (soccer) you are on the wrong thread. If you even bothered to read any of the posts you will realize that no one on this specific thread is neither contemplating nor discussing the silver Nigeria got. We were talking about the medals China and American got.

I also know about supposed human rights violations on China's own citizens. There are however some Chinese policies I like, for instance people getting the death penalty for fraud or using government fraud illegally. The Nigerian government could learn from that. Apparently you need to heed your own advice about news, you seem to be stuck on news from only American media and that is often globally translated to stuck on stupid. Everyone knows CNN and especially FOX are partial so thank God for BBC and a times Aljezeer. I don't need an apology I just need all you yea sayers for America to open your eyes. You might be patriotic but it is just stupid to act as if everything a country does is right just because you claim it. Wrong is wrong is wrong.

How many dateline, Nightline 20/20, 48hrs episode is the death of a white male or female throughly investigated when a black death is treated as a rodent trap or insignificant waste of time. Even in the nightly news a black man commits a crime their face gets well splattered and when I white crime is committed it is given a few seconds air time. Before the Olympics rumors were surfacing that the Chinese government were telling bar owners to not patronize blacks and Mongolians as far as am concerned its still rumors. First off. . . am not in no competition with you on debating teams, you brought up debate. I could careless about your debating credentials because their is nothing at stake here for me. In terms of the 10 % and 5% stuff China is still a third world country so I doubt they are hiding that. They are hosting an event which the whole world is coming to both the rich and the poor so I doubt they would show the worst parts of their country. Their opening ceremony has been recognized as one of the best yet. . . I doubt you would have a party in your house and show anything you deem embarrassing. Like leaving your undies out when people come to the party. In terms of the girl lip synching, it was bad but I doubt it phased the Chinese at all. The Americans quickly showed that as if they would let a fat person sing at something that big. Shoot. . . they hardly let fat people on American Idol. Lets be honest cute sells, how many non cute kids on mere commercials here, much less. America likes to dig other peoples dirt to make them feel better about themselves.

The USA olympic commitee might not have actively had anything to do with her but she definitely did not do it on her own. According to Jones her coach gave it to her without her knowledge. No the question is who hired the coach.
This comes back to if the allegation against the female Chinese gymnist were true I doubt the Chinese Olympic committee knew about it either.

In regards to the comment of the Chinese government paying the IOC to rig things because IOC or Chinese government are anti USA. That is just baseless, if they were so Anti- USA then why is this said country having the most medals. They even ranked themselves above China for medal count even though the gold weighs heavier. Also the Chinese route for alot American players. An the president (Prime Minister) had talks with lil Bush concerning religious restrictions.

I think what he is basically saying is that even if the claim of a 12 yr old girl acting as a 16 yr old were true and that one gold was stripped. It would be one gold stripped and not 15 gold medals therefore China would still be on top as that one person did not individaully win all 15 gold medals for CHina

The Chinese team was ranked 39th in the world coming into the event, but will enter the finals as the #1 seed, after posting the best time in the qualifying heats. Is this a case of sour grapes, and merely an attempt by the American media to cast doubt on an inspirational performance by the Chinese? Doubtful. More than 30 Chinese swimmers failed drug tests in the 1990's, and the Chinese haven't been legitimate #1 contenders in swimming in recent years, so there's definitely something fishy about this first-place finish.

Good thing you are a good debater. I was in a debating too so maybe our coaches taught us differently on how to debate. Anyhow the reason I brought up Marion Jones again is because you make it seem like the Chinese did not actively search to ensure people were not cheating. The reason the food for this olympics were tightly regulated is because the Chinese grow their foods with steroids which then end up looking like the athletes are doping.

I don;t get the point of listing the athletes who were banned from competing.

Anyways like someone said the Chinese were hosting the Olympics in their country and they have known for four years so they worked their hardest not to be outdone in their own country and they weren't. In terms of gold medals that is. So anyone can have their suspicions and smell fish all they want

Blah Blah Blah it is all about the TEAM USA. They came in dominating and breaking records. I'm extremely proud of my country and all the hardwork they put in and the determination they kept throughout.

I have to give my props to China, they tried. . . . even if they cheated in gymnastics. Goes to show they needed a 12 year old acting like a 16 year old just to beat USA because they are just that good.

All in all. . . . it goes to show that USA will continue to dominate as it should. Call it arrogance. . . . while we call it Being An American.

Has it been proven that the Chinese cheated with the underage girl or is it still speculation? Even if the gold medal is stripped from the Chinese they will still be on top for gold medal count with out the gymnastics gold medal. Frthermore, when Marion Jones was winning all the fake gold medal no one suspected her till years after. She was on every headline news world wide for running amazingly but I bet you when she was found out for taking performance enhancement drugs many people didn't hear about it.
