rudedough: Sorry i'm a religious scholar if that means anything in context, i have studied the Bible many times and also the Qur'an. I can tell you authoritatively that i am very knowledgeable about your Bible and i don't need to find loop holes, i will show you things in your bible that your Pastors haven't come across.
Ask your fellow Christians who have had the opportunity to open that "NEW THREAD" with me and they will tell you one thing, they run away. And please note that the "GRACE and "OLD and NEW COVENANT" nonsensical excuses don't hold when i debate about the bible because i won't be talking about God but about Jesus and pointing out his atrocities, showing you that he is not any different from his father.
If you're in doubt, get a new thread started with a title - Inviting Rudedough to a theoretical debate on Religion. If you are really serious about taking him up, you start up the thread calling him out.. Or are you scared? |

chronique: To everyone who says there is no God: all I need y'all to do is to prove to me how man was created/came into existence. If you can tell me how man's flesh was made, how your respiratory system was designed, how your brain was programmed, how the concept of blood being the soul of a man,was achieved, etc;I'd believe there's no God. It's only a fool that will claim He knows for sure, and can give you adequate info on what happened in a place He has never been to. It's only a fool that will come out and contradict historical events that occurred before his/her birth. It's only a fool that will wake up and say a way of life that has been observed by thousands of generations in the past,is false, without giving concrete evidences to prove it. You cannot explain how you came into existence, yet you claim there's no creator or God? Smh. The difference between the fool and the wise is that, the wise will believe there's God,only to find out at the end that there is no God. But the foolish will assume there's no GOD,only to discover at the end, that there is a God that created heaven and earth. Do you know that a slug has a 70% similarity with the human's DNA? That's two totally distinct lifeforms on earth. If the creationist theory is correct, they should have 0% similarities |

Joshthefirst: @ plaetton: you don't know what christianity is, and yes, atheists are immoral. And you are wrong for generalising... Am atheist and am in no way immoral.. There is a young man that lives in a broken down school bus opposite a church on my street and you Christians would wear your fancy dresses and drive ur fancy cars and pay ur stupid tithes almost everyday without even giving a thought to this young man (he is hunchback). Everytime I see him I, though I don't earn much, I always 'drop' something for him. Last week was the first time I knew he was sleeping in the bus and now am looking for a place for him to stay. The funny thing is that he thinks am one godly person. The Christians that go to that church are the immoral ones not atheists.. I bet you if rationmind, generalshephard and other atheists were in the same situation, they would act the same. We don't have time praying to some imaginary deity to help that guy, we go out and help. |
Well, the point is simply whatever it is that pythons have, venom or bacteria, it is harmless to humans. Also pythons rarely ever attack humans. A python cannot kill a grown healthy adult easily. And thanks Mr. Informed, you just showed how ill mannered you are. So lets assume I made the biggest gaff in the world, the first thing you will run out to say is that I am uninformed. Na wah sha, typical beer palour behavior. Thanks mr. Informant, whatever it is you want to inform me about snakes, I prolly am way ahead of you. I used the word venom for the purpose of communication. Pythons and all other constrictors including corn snakes, anacondas, etc all fall into this category. They kill by constricting and not by venom per se. However, they do have a host of bacteria in their mouths that are capable of causing their victims great discomfort including but not limited to salmonella poisoning.. Now on your Croc response mr. Crocodile Dundee, I still stand by what I said. Now if only you spent a little time to read the sentence carefully, you would notice I said "almost always".. Facts about crocs includes that they have the strongest bite force of any creature. Now what do you think the brittle bones of a child would be like under the grip of a locked crocs jaw.
10 to 15 seconds with a python? I think not.
First of all, pythons very rarely attack humans and even when they do, it's hard for them to actually overpower an adult except the adult is drunk, ill, disabled or weakened by something else.
Don't forget that people keep pythons as pets..
Plus python venom is poisonously harmless to humans.
But for crocs, it's a different story as their first bite almost always chops off whatever part of the body they grab.
It is today I know you are really uninformed (it is insulting to say stewpid).. A python's venom harmless to humans?! That's if a python has venom in the first place.. Read, Read, Read and sometimes switch ur channel from supersports to national geo. Like seriously!! The people that keep pythons as pets feed them cos they know what happens when the snake gets hungry. As for ur croc's first bite, it doesn't chop off immediately the part it grabs, the bite only secures its grip on its prey, rolling and drowning the prey does the dirty job. Why the leg was amputated was that the damage was done beyond repair not the croc. |

kevoh: When a python attacks, you have about 14 to 15 seconds before you lose consciousness. That na very short time ooo. So you must act sharp sharp. Don't waste time trying to remove the snake's body from the center, it will only encourage it to tighten it's grip around you. Follow these steps : 1. Quickly remove your shirt and wrap it round the python's head. 2. Take a deep breath. 3. Get the python's tail and give it a big bite. Yes a bite! The type of bite that will cut off a large chunk of the tail off. Na sharply bros python go release it's grip on you. Noted.. Thanks bro.. Off to the jungle to test run.. Pukkah: You've hit the nail on the head.
Jonathan has proved clearly that he's not a consummate politcian. Unluckily for him, there are no real politcians around him that are used to nights of long knives and fighting in the trenches. The only person that's close to that is Tony Anenih whose old and tired voice has been crowded out by the cacophonous voices of Akpabio, Wike, Tukur, etc.
Jonathan did not utilize the 'readiness' of Tinubu to work with him and he didn't press further, post 2011 election, to tip SW to his side (politically speaking).
Imagine if he had secured the political support of SW, whom some of us noted here as the bride to be courted, before the implosion in PDP. In addition, the SW has long been used to political fights and being in the opposition. You don't alienate such a region and other real politicians at the same time.
I was shocked the day Jonathan naively described SE as the pillar of his support and even more shocked as he sat through the campaign where Arthur Eze referred to APC as the party of Awolowo that killed their children.
I noted here that such statements would unite other parts of the country against him and tip neutrals and moderates to the other side.
For some odd reason, he has also inexplicably held on to Tukur whom he should have used as gambit to bargain for his political survival.
The creation of PDP Governors forum, ostensibly to break or weaken Amaechi or the Governors, was also petty and unnecessary.
I also wonder why he has not courted Atiku, who appears to be 'floating' and whom he could use against Obasanjo.
Sometimes I ask myself why Jonathan, the President of a secular country, must go everywhere with Oritsejafor. Oritsejafor has succeeded in creating enemies for Jonathan even within christendom, let alone the other side.
The handling of the ex-militants and their explosive statements has also been very poor. Ex-militants, like Oritsejafor and co, now own private jets and even universities!
The handling of corruption cases is another sore point. Why pardon Alamieyeseigha and stubbornly hold on to Odua, Oteh while turning a blind eye to what's going on in the Oil Ministry?
All these have frittered away the massive goodwill on which Jonathan rode to power in 2011.
The heat is on and as the flurry of activities increases, I hope he won't make more mistakes in a bid to fight back for the political survival of his life.
NB: This is a political analysis and does not mean I support the ways of Nigerian politicians. You got it spot on.. The thing I feel Pre Jonathan got it wrong is that the north and the SW are the real Nigeria, the Igbos (am not into tribalism) lost their right in Nigerian politicing because of their attempted succession. Naturally they have this 'in your face attitude' and fail to recognise that while historically the yorubas are the opposition, you cannot alienate the west and think you get away with it. The yorubas are the only major tribe in nigeria that cuts across religious lines( which is the way the country has been divided, forget politics). we hold the ship called Nigeria. While we may not really like Obasanjo, being one of us we have to accept him, and let's face it, he get clout when it comes to nigerian governance and politics. The Jonathan made the mistake of alienating his major rival Atiku and and placing his political future in Tukur, who really is a political boy boy. Tukur. His major political achievement is being the gov of old Gongola state which let's be frank OBJ put him there in 1980 elections albeit unconsciously. Jonathan should realise that like Egypt and Syria the military owns this country, and if u have Babangida, Obasanjo, and Buhari as ur political enemies, you are politically doomed.. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Atheists Always Debate Theists And God's Existence? by scarred9jan(m): 12:15am On Dec 27, 2013 |
cold: As for Stalin & co. Let me help you here since it is obvious as a typical christian, you barely read your bible let alone other research materials.. It is a common talking point amongst Christians to attribute the horrors committed by infamous world leaders to atheism, and many times we are ill-equipped to refute those erroneous claims. In fact, last year, an Anglican Archbishop named Peter Jensen told his Australian congregation that atheism is not the rational philosophy that it claims to be. He stated, "Last century we tried godlessness on a grand scale and the effects were devastating: Nazism, Stalinism, Pol Pot-ery, mass murder, abortion and broken relationships - all promoted by state-imposed atheism…the illusion that we can build a better life without God." He further stated, "It's about our determination as human beings to have our own way, to make our own rules, to live our own lives, unfettered by the rule of God and the right of God to rule over us…What we're really seeing, once more [is] an example of the contest between human beings and God over who rules the world."
Atheist Foundation president David Nicholls says the comments are an act of desperation by the church. Personally, I think "desperation" is an understatement of epic proportions. There are so many things wrong with Jensen's statements that I had to sit here and stare at my screen for quite a while before I even found a starting point. I gave considerable thought to expounding on the sheer arrogance that a god rules the world regardless of whether or not anyone actually believes in one, the utterly ridiculous notion of a struggle between god and man, or their dogma about not being able to achieve peace, happiness and harmony in our society without their god. However, time being at a premium today, I decided to a different route.
First of all, there is no such thing as state-imposed atheism. A state can ban religion, but it cannot ban atheism because it is not a belief, a faith, a set of doctrines or dogmas and cannot be imposed on anybody. Atheism is an absence of belief, and you cannot ban something that does not exist. I have heard the argument so many times from believers who think that atheism is a belief. They compare it to a religion. They say it takes faith. They accuse us of hating god. Believers really need to find another line of fire, as all of these arguments only serve to make them look like complete idiots, which is unnecessary, as many believers are otherwise intelligent individuals. I will not bother to extrapolate the reasons why these are illegitimate arguments, as many of you already know the details. Those of you who don't can look them up yourselves, and perhaps better arm yourselves for the times when you are confronted by theists who offer them up.
Today, though, we are going to examine Jensen's claims about Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mass Murder and Broken Relationships. We'll start with the people he mentioned, and, as far as I'm aware, none of them said "I don't believe in god, therefore I will slaughter lots of innocent people". Let's start with Adolf Hitler…
On Adolf Hitler…
Christians have been trying to discredit Hitler's faith for decades, turning their eyes away from history books. From the earliest formation of the Nazi party he expressed his Christian support to the German citizenry and soldiers. He was baptized as Roman Catholic in Austria, attended a monastery school and was a communicant and an altar boy in the Catholic Church. He was confirmed as a "soldier of Christ" and his goal was to become a priest. He was never excommunicated or condemned and the church had stated that he was "Avenging for God" in attacking the Jews for they deemed the Semites the killers of Jesus. Look it up…
Hitler was given veto power over whom the pope could appoint as a bishop in Germany and forged a treaty whereas the National Socialist state was officially recognized by the Catholic Church. In a letter to the Nazi party, he wrote "…this treaty shows the whole world clearly and unequivocally that the assertion that National Socialism is hostile to religion is a lie."
He allied with Pope Pius in converting German society and made a deal with the church whereas the church absorbed Nazi ideals and preached them as part of their sermons, and in turn, Hitler placed Catholic teachings in public education. This lead to Hitler enacting doctrines of the Church as law. He outlawed all abortion, raged a death war on all homosexuals, and demanded corporal punishment in schools and home.
He was quoted as stating, "The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavor to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines (Lehren), and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of today…Providence has caused me to be Catholic, and I know therefore how to handle this Church."
In fact, the Holocaust grew out of Hitler's Christian education due mainly to Jews having an inferior status in Christian Austria and Germany. The Christians there blamed the Jews for the killing of Jesus and the hatred that Hitler fostered against Jewish people began from the preaching of Catholic priests and Protestant ministers throughout Germany. It is well known that Martin Luther held a livid hatred for Jews and their religion. Luther wrote a book titled "On the Jews and their Lies" which set the standard for Jewish hatred all the way up to World War 2. Hitler, of course, expressed a great admiration for Luther.
The Nazis began to control schools insisting that Christianity was taught. They included anti-Semitic Christian writings in textbooks and were not removed from Christian doctrines until 1961. Nazi soldiers wore religious symbols and placed religious sayings on military gear. The official army belt buckle read "God With Us". They got sprinkled with holy water and listened to Catholic sermons before going out on maneuvers. The Nazis had a secret service called the "SS Reich" that would act as spies on the dealings of other citizens and if anyone was suspected of heresy they would be prosecuted.
Here are a few quotes from Hitler:
"We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out." -Adolf Hitler, in a speech in Berlin on 24 Oct. 1933
"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow my self to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows . For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." -Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922
"Christianity could not content itself with building up its own altar; it was absolutely forced to undertake the destruction of the heathen altars. Only from this fanatical intolerance could its apodictic faith take form; this intolerance is, in fact, its absolute presupposition." -Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord." -Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)
Had enough of Hitler? OK, let's move on to Stalin:
Joseph Stalin was raised to be a Catholic Priest and I remain curious as to why his Christianity is shoved aside in all these arguments. Yes, there is no way to get around the fact that in his early career, Stalin made a vast effort to rid Russia of religion, but that had nothing to do with atheism. It was the only way he knew to seize power of the country.
For generations the entire populace of Russia had been taught that the head of state was supposed to be close to god. At the time in question, the head of the church in Russia was a tyrant. The Russians were already disposed to servility and all Stalin did was exploit these two facts, and place himself in the position of god. Once Stalin was firmly seated in office, he revived the Russian Orthodox Church in order to intensify patriotic support for the war effort. Stalin was part of a council convened to elected a new church Patriarch. Then the Russian theological schools were opened, and thousands of churches began to function. Even the Moscow Theological Academy Seminary was re-opened, after being closed since 1918.
So, while Stalin was no peach, he was not exactly what you would call a died-in-the-wool atheist. He was more a secular minded religious opportunist, which is a personal character trait. He did not use atheism to gain control, but religious principles that were modified to fit his own, sick and twisted method of revolution.
What about Pol Pot?
Truly a monster, having killed some twenty-five percent of the entire population of Cambodia. Pol Pot targeted not just different religions, but education, science and medicine in his quest for total domination. Now, let's take a head count of atheists who are against education, science and medicine. Thought so… Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge were composed of Buddhists and Pol Pot was a Theravada Buddhist. He studied at a Buddhist monastery and then at a Catholic school for 8 years. Cambodia's communism was influenced by Theravada Buddhism.
Prince Norodom Sihanouk said, "Pol Pot does not believe in God but he thinks that heaven, destiny, wants him to guide Cambodia in the way he thinks it the best for Cambodia, that is to say, the worst. Pol Pot is mad, you know, like Hitler."
So, while Pol Pot was definitely not a Christian, he was also definitely not an Atheist.
Let's get on with some Mass Murder, shall we?
Add up the deaths that were attributed to Hitler, Stalin and Pot. Then round up for good measure. You can safely say that the number is staggering. Probably upwards of fifteen million. However, consider the following conflicts where the only differences between the opposing factions were and are religion:
Albigensian Crusade, 1208-49 Algeria, 1992- Baha'is, 1848-54 Bosnia, 1992-95 Boxer Rebellion, 1899-1901 Christian Romans, 30-313 CE Croatia, 1991-92 English Civil War, 1642-46 Holocaust, 1938-45 Huguenot Wars, 1562-1598 India, 1992-2002 India: Suttee & Thugs Indo-Pakistani Partition, 1947 Iran, Islamic Republic, 1979- Iraq, Shiites, 1991-92 Jews, 1348 Jonestown, 1978 Lebanon 1860 / 1975-92 Molucca Is., 1999- Mongolia, 1937-39 Northern Ireland, 1974-98 Russian pogroms 1905-06 / 1917-22 St. Bartholemew Massacre, 1572 Shang China, ca. 1300-1050 BCE Shimabara Revolt, Japan 1637-38 Sikh uprising, India, 1984-91 Spanish Inquisition, 1478-1834 Taiping Rebellion, 1850-64 Thirty Years War, 1618-48 Tudor England Vietnam, 1800s Witch Hunts, 1400-1800 Xhosa, 1857 Arab Outbreak, 7th Century CE Arab-Israeli Wars, 1948- Al Qaeda, 1993- Crusades, 1095-1291 Dutch Revolt, 1566-1609 Nigeria, 1990s, 2000s
If you add up all of the lives that were lost in the name of one religion or another, you come up with a staggering figure that is in excess of eight-hundred-million. That's eight-hundred-million. An eight, followed by eight zeros. So, even if the believers who are uneducated enough to think that Hitler, Stalin and Pot were psychotic mass murderers because they thought these men were atheists, it is horrifically clear that religious murder wins out. Abeg tell them oh.. These religious folks think we atheist are stupid.. We think outside the box.. We read, not just mills and booms or john girshams at al but non-fictions, religious books, (auto)biographies and all... As for Mao.. His brand of communism became a religion for his followers thus giving him a christlike or mohammedan (using christianity and islam as a focal point) aura for them.. If china were to be the major economic/political powerhouse in the nearest future(which is likely judging from their present growth) I bet you in a hundred years or so Mao would replace jesus as the in thing.. |

Delafruita: the major difference between theism and atheism is the presence of the herd mentality in theism.theists don't have the benefit of been able to stand by the sideline and analyse the facts of whatever religion they profess.theism for the most part does not arise from a deep conviction rather its a matter of what family one is born into, circumstances of life etc.apostasy might have been an exception but its more a case of leaving one herd for another.
Atheism on the other in almost all cases is a result of logical understanding of what is and isn't accompanied by proper analysis of what should be.most atheists had their foundation in theism but couldn't help questioning the imperfections prevalent in their religion.doesn't matter how you look at it,an atheist is always intelligent, logical and confident.not because they don't believe in skydaddy but rather because an atheist has come to the realisation that life is what you make of it.atheists don't expect mercy from above but most times they realise that karma is a biatch and so would rarely deliberately hurt others.atheists have no boundaries except of course the confines of the law.they believe in the equality of all irrespective of gender, social status or sexuall orientation.
Once more, not all atheists are evolutionists.
I recall an incident that happened a few weeks ago.I happened to be in a bus on the way to apapa when this elderly man started singing and praising jehovah.a short while later the man started plenty prayers to which the passengers kept thundering plenty amen especially since his prayers had to do with "ember tragedy".after all the prayers, the man started to relate how he was diagnosed with glaucoma in one eye which eventually got blind because he could afford post-surgery medication.then he said same ailment was now in the second eye and he just had surgery and was required to buy eye drop and use for 14days.it was to cost 1500(one thousand five hundred) and he had to start using it that night or risk the other eye goin blind completely.to my chagrin all those who were screaming amen at his prayers decided to concentrate on their phones.after a while someone gave the man 20naira and another gave him 5naira.I was so disgusted at the 5naira I had to reprimand the young lady and ask what she expected the man to use the 5naira for.suffice to say all the man could raise was 75naira from his "brethren".then I gave the man the money he asked for and he entered into another round of prayers which made me tell him I didn't need his prayers.I told him to let go of skydaddy and figure out how to make something of the remaining days of his life.then he said God used me to answer his prayers so he knows God answers prayer.
That experience is just one of many where religious folks have showed their true colour.but if it were their pastors or imams that asked for contribution, you'd see them racing to "tap from anointing".hypocrites Nice one.. My thoughts exactly.. I was about to say 'god bless you' (old habits die hard, hehehe) Its funny how atheist are being used by god to answer religious folks prayer. Had a similar experience once.. A drinking buddy of mine has been lying to his folks for years that he is school while he is not and has been collecting school fEes and is now riddled with guilt. I told him that he should come clean and since he is a christian, I took a quote from his bible that the truth shall set him free. The guy has been harping ever since that my true calling is a pastor and am misusing my god given talents.. I just told him I have heard and will give it some thought.. The thing people fail to notice is that most atheist are not bad people.. We just do what is right at that moment cos we are not bound by doctrines that would tell us not to help iya risikat cos everybody knows she is a witch or something.. |

I really shake my head when I see all these blinded religious folks.. While we are here carrying their god(s) on our head they are busy developing themselves without the burden of the god factor. Just this morning I watched a documentary on BBC about deep sea mining.. I mean they are making plans of harnessing the economic potentials of miles underwater and we are busy here crying god... Also in that documentary new species of deep sea organism were found, specially adapted for that pressure.. If that aint evolution then what is? |

MAURI: What a whole load of crap!!
So people who make the conscious choice not to marry because they have a different outlook on life concerning marriage, should never have sex?
Even when it involves two consenting adults?
It is either you love a person for who that person is or you don't. The person’ past notwithstanding! We all have a past. The most precious thing in any union / relationship is the individual’s well-being and happiness!! In the event you "think" that the core determinant of you loving a person is majorly based on whether that person has had previous sexual interactions or not, you should ask yourself if you REALLY love that person! Bro.. Thank you ohh.. Abeg help me tell them. I fall into the first category, the non marrying.. So I shouldn't have sex anymore? |

tensor77: And what is she missing. All the carousing and fornicating you've done as a man what value has it added to your life? Dude.. Take a chill pill... I really don't know what ur so worked up about.. Someone cannot be unserious(coined) anymore.. And ur 'holier than thou' attitude sucks big time.. If you've never had sex or lustful thoughts before then u can cast ur stones.. But if you have.. Two words.. Phuck off |
i hope u tell ur daughters or sisters to allow every man that comes their way to test them,STUPID HUMAN BEING,continue deciving ur self[/quot
Dude the only advice I would give my daughters (if I ever have, which seems unlikely) is that if they want to phuck around they should do it far away from my house. Like say if I were to be living in ikoyi they should phuck in ikeja or surulere..runs gals be person pikin na.. |

Bullocks.. Like seriously... While am not a womaniser I believe if two consenting adult want to do the 'thing' without the shackles called marriage they should feel free.. A lady being a virgin when she marries doesn't guarantee her hubby not looking outside and vice versa... An area 'osho free' can make a good wife, same goes for a playboy can be a faithful husband.. It all depends on the person's character..so to all consenting adults, have a sexful holiday.. But remember the BCs (be faithful, and if ur not use ur condoms, Abstinence obviously doesn't count) |

That is just another way of jokingly saying, we are moving on.
So, "ministry" in that context is not the same as ministry in a religious context Oh.. Noted.. Thanks |
