Crime › Nigerian Security Guard Avoids Jail For Kicking Dementia Patient In UK by scarred9jan(op): 8:10pm On Aug 12, 2015 |
A hospital security guard who kicked a vulnerable dementia patient has avoided jail after a judge heard he had not had the proper training. Austin Eboh admitted he 'lost his temper' and attacked the man leaving him with a cut to his ankle and 'psychological damage'. The 27-year-old claimed he had received no training in how to deal with 'difficult patients' and had become frustrated when the dementia sufferer became violent and aggressive. The victim, who cannot be named, had been assigned security staff because of the threat he posed to other patients and staff at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. Eboh, of Sittingbourne, Kent, had been totally unprepared for the challenging role, the court heard. 'The day in question was only my second night working with a patient. I had been given no training in dealing with patients generally, let alone difficult patients,' said the security guard. 'My understanding of the job was to prevent this man from using violence against staff and other patients.' Eboh was subsequently sacked from his job at Rightguard Security which has since implemented new training measures. Sparing him jail, Judge Simon James told him: 'It is clear you were unprepared and untrained for the difficult role you were entrusted with. 'Dealing with people with serious mental health issues requires compassion, patience and understanding. 'Clearly you had none of those characteristics.' The judge added the guard had been warned about the inappropriateness of his conduct prior to the attack but had persisted in using physical force. Canterbury Crown Court heard how several shocked patients witnessed the incident in November 2013. However, Eboh claimed that he had been assaulted by victim first and sustained an injury before he lashed out. He said: 'On the night in question, this patient was being particularly violent and aggressive. 'During my shift he attempted to bite me, spit at me, kick me, throw pillows and bed sheets at me and twist my arm. I had to visit the minor injuries unit for an injury caused to my wrist the following day. 'I accept that in the course of my shift, I suffered a momentary loss of temper,' he added. His barrister Kieran Brand said the father-of-one, who moved from Nigeria in 2010, 'simply wasn't qualified' to deal with the dementia patient. 'He did abuse his position of trust but he had received no training whatsoever to deal with that sort of situation,' he added. Mr Brand added the guard didn't asked for help because he feared he would lose his job. Eboh pleaded guilty to assaulting the man while a second charge of ill-treatment, which the ex-guard denied, was left on file. He was handed a nine-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, and ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work for the community. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3194795/Hospital-security-guard-kicked-dementia-patient-avoids-jail-didn-t-right-training.html

johnydon22: Hahahahahaha i don die...
The problem is that you don't know the difference between a claim and an observation.... And you are not even ashamed of it..
Plato observed the constellations in different geographical point and reached a consensus that only a spherical globe could have different constellation views in different location, it was a very simple interpretation of an observation, some may reach a conclusion that it is because the earth rested on a giant turtle.. Observation means it is very clear for all to observe, plato's phenomenon of constellations can as well be observed even now.
It was exactly like Msngr Georges Big bang postulation, he had no proof just like Plato, just a postulation based on observed phenomenon only after the hubble telescope went into orbit was the observation verified ... You see You absolutely have no knowledge of what science is and i am not supposed to start teaching you that.
Too bad you do not know that claiming that a wafer turns into a blood when it is not demonstrative for all just like observing the constellation is, it is a CLAIM and not an observation... Boy you really need to read because you far to engage on a scientific discussion or argument with me.
You could not maintain an argument without spamming the thread with wikipedia copy and paste; quite childish and degrading.
Let us hope you won't ask how an observation and a claim is the same thing in a way i think italo is learning although he is being pigheaded about it. |

plaetton: No sir.
What do you mean by the phrase " cannot be explained by natural laws " ?
Don't you first have to know the entire sum of all natural laws, before you can boldly CLAIM that something CANNOT be explained by any natural laws ?
The truth is that we are still trying to understand the natural laws and how they operate at the macro, micro and subatomic levels.
I remind you , once again, like I did the op, that over the past 2000 yrs, newly understood natural laws have explained away tens of thousands of ersthwhile mysteries or spiritual things.
So with this in mind, a supernatural phenomenon is one whose underlying physics has yet to be fully understood or even scientifically studied.
If we plug in Quantum entanglement, Relativity, Gravity and Time dilation, Torsion Fields, etc into our everyday experiences, we would see that all phenomena may be or can be fully measured and explained.
A mystery is just something waiting to be discovered.
And, we have to stop using mysteries to explain mysteries. Love your take on Adeboye and all. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Insight Into Michael Jackson's Earth Song by scarred9jan(m): 6:43pm On Jul 29, 2015 |
K9blunt: Very touching. Hmn here's mine. I was born and raised a christian, am not much of an academic person, I hated reading textbooks and doing homework was easy enough reasons for the teachers to practise pain inflicting tactics on my young skin *chuckles*. There were times when I see some mischievious people hiding in the dark I was quick to say it was the devil trying to get in and destroy the family I love and knew yadayada. I grew to love God for no reason order than I should just love him. I grew up that way, even making sure I don't give any minute to any talks against God cause I that as an afront on the so-called almighty, I even had dreams of seeing angels and seeing mary (as per catholism) in my dreams praying for me.
The beginning of reality started when my mom became really sick, I prayed and prayed and prayed, I even tried other ways of praying like; thanking god for doing the miracle of yet to see, acting as if am talking to a father close to me and thenn crying blood (that's exagerrating I know) but no help came. Its just through advise, studies and then financial help from here and there, then just plain family bond that made it bearable for the illness to be managed and then mind you we are not financially bouyant.
Then I asked for a sign, it came alright in many ways than one, my sibling had been praying, working and even fasting to God for help out of the country, I later joined, then promises came of us getting our wish but NO! It never came. Even when it seemed something good was coming up, it felt like 1 step forward, thousand steps southwards.
Then what broke the camels back was when I sat back, saw the chaos happening around me, earthquakes, 9/11, tsunami, animal cruelty, perversion, rape, injustice, E,T,C. Then opened my bible (then) read it, prayed to understand, instead I got more anoyyed, more confused as I wanted to believe God is all merciful, asked questions from people I respected and got more and more inquinsitive. Then I just decided that if there's a God at all, all these won't be happening = atheist!
Am telling you all these (am so eshausted) because its not based on anger became an atheist, its because its just what it is to me. If your God exist, he doesn't need me opening my heart or giving me in form of vision ( as most people prefer) he should just show himself, answer these questions in my head, without killing me or making me blind (as he's known to do). In short he should open my heart (not literally o) and prove himself. Maybe just maybe I would believe and then forgive his creating hell if I refuse to believe.
Phew! Did I just type all that..... yes you did.... that was touching. fortunately my first foray into questioning god and its existence started when i was like 14.. i simply asked the question "what if" . what if i wasn't an anglican. then i experimented Catholicism, read the koran, meditated to Zen Buddhism (which i still do) amongst other thing. I then just gave up totally and life has been very interesting. keep it up sis... |

johnydon22: Lol is that the new line?
Actually nobody is saying God is dead because before you say something no longer is, you must first have to prove it once have been.
Most atheist you meet were once christians because they were born into christian homes and areas saturated by christianity due to geographical location.
You cannot expect someone who have not read the quran to start arguing with that which he has not read, or is that how your life is? You argue over what you have no idea of?
Most atheist you see here on nairaland were once christians or lived in christian areas and are most familiar with the bible and christian thumping ish, so they engage you based on what they know. Muslims atheist attack more of islam, in fact i think muslims atheist are predominant among atheists on twitter yet as usual you wish to play the victims card.
Many a time they engage the muslims who seem to be quite conservative in engaging atheists unlike christians like you who just open threads to point at atheist then cry victim when it starts.
If muslims start opening threads pointing fingers and threatening people as much as you do here then they would have gotten as much attention from atheist like christianity obviously is getting.
Atheism doesn't mean disbelief in christian God, it means disbelief in ALL of the God concepts man has come up with through out history.
So same way i disbelieve your God yahweh is exactly same way i disbelieve muslim Allah and equally disbelieve Hindu Brahma or Greek Zeus. . . And if you find out the reason why you disbelieve these other religions then you will know exactly why i disbelieve yours.
These other religions tend to keep it to themselves, i have never seen a hindu preach to me or tell me what brahma will do to me if i don't believe it neither in this part of the country have i seen a muslims preach to me in fact the only place i have seen a mosque here is in the barracks. .
I have no problem with your christian God or Belief just like i have no problem with the Muslim God tho i have a problem with their barbaric laws which i am sure i speak and argue against here on nairaland much well.
But robbing your belief on my face like we get everyday both in the street, bus, school virtually everywhere in the name of preaching is practically encroaching in my personal right and space and we have a problem with that.
In nairaland muslims isolate themselves in one section and they pour and swallow their absuridities there once they bring it out in an open ground like here they know quite well they will get exactly what you get...
Once you bring out absurdities and mythical brouhaha in an open public forum like this, you should expect to be challenged and given healthy refutation unless you wish just like a typical theist to shield your belief from skeptic scrutiny... mind you homo sapiens aint robots that are supposed to download what ever you feed into the hardware.
Christians open most threads about atheists then complain when they get equal attention from atheist, is that not blatant hypocrisy and if i must say childish victim mindset.
This thread alone is enough to show you pin point atheist more than other religions care to do so do not complain when they accord you similar favour.
After all God is not dead, that which has not been shown to live cannot be said to be dead..
and he is coming soon, probably in the next 10000years he will still be coming soon... You need a dictionary to know the meaning of SOON.
Last your religion of today, is the myth of the future. . . Take a look behind historical timeline to see that
Lest i forget, if you don't want atheist to stop attacking your christian absurdities... Why not just pray for us to stop, am sure your christian God is all powerful and can do that. So pray for us to stop....it should be easy for your God and i suggest you start your fasting and prayers immediately.
Until then, you have to deal with atheist bullshiit everyday A month of dry fasting will surely get god(s)'s attention. Don't eat or drink water oh... just keep praying for us atheist. |

Talk about religions we all know what religion is following the same doctrine and mode of practise...and we know the examples.
Tagging people's ideologies to be modes of religions is as stupendous as it is ridiculous. I am in love with white girls only, does this put me in a different atheist sect?

The same supreme court and Constitution that has been guaranteeing and upholding equal rights, dignity and equal justice to blacks over the last 200 yrs or so.
Unfortunately, we in Africa are still too primitive, animistic and unappreciative of our own collective history to understand what "a right" is.
Fani-Kayode, on the other hand, a Western educated elite, he himself a tribal chauvinist, represents the tragedy of the African elite class. hahn: I believe the op is asking if there was a planned and deliberate attempt at ensuring that our culture be "given a new meaning" so that it can "play a less role in our society".
My answer is yes. When the europeans decided to journey into Africa, they developed a well planned strategy to ensure that their rule be guaranteed on this new "discovery" of theirs. First, they started by claiming they "discovered" Africa. How on earth do you discover a place where people already live in, have families, built societies and had their own culture and history really beats me.
In the beginning, our ancestors ate these people but in some parts welcomed them maybe out of sheer curiosity at the clothings, the way they spoke, their huge ships and gifts.
These series of events gave room to the idea of the need to teach the black man their ways. I don't mean to digress but ask yourself, when you travel to another country, do you teach those people Yoruba or hausa or igbo or do you learn their own language? I believe its far easier to learn the other person's language afterall there is a larger population of igbos in Lagos who speak Yoruba as opposed to the number of Yorubas in Lagos who speak igbo.
However, the white man did the exact opposite. Instead, they gave our ancestors gifts in the form of their kind of clothing. They set up schools and started teaching us English. They set up churches and taught us about Jesus Christ all the while saying, "you don't dress properly. Our language is better than yours. All your gods are false, serve the one and only true god". They even went as far as setting up their own "government" and the irony is that they said our kings and queens were below their government and laws even though ironically, they did all these "in the name of the queen".
Then they decided to carter our ancestors away as "slaves" after recognising their obvious physical strenght by conniving with the kings of old and bribing them with gifts and titles. After using these slaves for centuries they went ahead and taught them only about white leaders before the blacks were able to educate themselves and demand the inclusion os "black history" as in the case of America. However, they were able to steal over 1000years of Africa's development.
And their plan worked.
Today we have a generation that believe it is "razz" to speak your own language or even pidgin English. Listen to Nigerian radio stations and most of the presenters can't even pronounce their own names. Our youths believe serving our own gods will lead us to hell without realising that by believing in such a statement you have condemed every single one of your ancestors to eternal damnation. People believe you are Behind when you eat salad, burgers, meat pie, pizzas, sharwarma and will quickly say "yuck" to our own eba, amala etc despite the fact that our foods are more economical and healthy etc
So, once again I say YES to the ops assertion. Africa is a victim of cultural genocide
