madridguy:Must we talk religion on every issue? Where did you read this in her after-death wishes stated above? Nigeria is big on religion but small on godly acts. That's why we're still battling bad governance after almost 65 years of self governance. |
YorubaNiBaba: Body shaming a fellow human being is sign of moral bankruptcy on the part of whoever does it. |

The petroleum subsidy regime and parallel foreign exchange regimes sustained by the PDP led to reckless pillaging of our commonwealth, creating a gaping hole in the nation’s economy that the APC government continues to work assiduously to revitalize. GEJ of PDP actually stopped the subsidy regime in 2012 only for the current President to lead the vanguard of opposition that stopped his good move then. So APC is responsible for the 'rot' you mentioned. |
MEGAWATCH:Your hatred for a tribe shouldn't becloud your sense of reasoning. The record of performance of Awolowo remained unbroken throughout the period of Parliamentary government. From 1999 till date Obj's presidential records remain unrivalled. I guess these two personalities are from the north or the east? |

Northern Nigeria is not hiding its hatred for Tinubu at all. Very bold people unlike others...
] This isn't BOLDNESS. It's hypocrisy at its peak. If and if only they were this loud during the 8-year monumental failure of Buhari... I'm not justifying Tinubu's harsh economic policies but the North should keep quiet. |
Seun: Happy birthday Seun. I'm particularly impressed by your ability to hold this project, Nairaland, since 2005. Congrats. |
Forkthiefnubu:Remove OBJ from that list. He has never shown any trait of tribalism since he began his political career. |
SocialJustice:Grateful to whom? After all you just claimed in your post above that there's no God. |
NyamiriSlayer: The word boss is not a nominal title. Rather, it is automatically bestowed upon anyone who has attained milestone successes professionally or entrepreneurially. Obj is a professional soldier, this makes him a boss to the thousands who joined the military after him. Besides, he got to the peak of his career. In the case of BAT, he is an accountant but not a chartered one and he didn't distinguish himself by getting to the peak to head any reputable financial institution like Akintola Delloite, Okonjo, Soludo etc. Those are bosses. In politics, Obj was President for a total of thirteen and half years whereas BAT has barely spent a year. How, then, is BAT a "boss" to Obj? |
In addition to the listed prayers of the FG, SIEC should be scraped and LGA's elections should henceforth be conducted by INEC. Kudos to the FG on this. This move will undoubtedly lead to rural development and keep the lackadaisical Chairmen and Councillors on their toes. |
hi WizardOfNG:The gist of your comment is that Obasanjo is a hypocrite. The word "hypocrite" refers to someone who faults others for what he's guilty of. No doubt, Obj has his own faults and foibles, every human being, including you and me have one character flaw or the other. You may tag him a hypocrite if he criticizes someone for not being forgiving but his records as a Nigerian former President are yet unbroken since he left. Efcc, Pencom, Excess crude account, Icpc, Telecom decentralization that gave birth to GSM, National debt payment and cancellation, Detribalised choice of technocrats as cabinet members across different parties, the first major minimum wage that changed the fortunes of civil servants who were impoverished under the military, Increased foreign reserve etc are some of his yet to be beaten records. Judging from the above, Obasanjo still remains the best Nigerian president. So, he has the moral right to criticize any under-perforing government. Our collective prayers should be praying for and supporting this government to break Obj's records of performance not condemning his message. |
xile:Personally speaking, l think it is nothing but a display of ignorance to wish OUR nation evil because of the hatred for the rulership of the President. Let's wish our country well under him and work for the good of the nation while he rules. We can then look for how to vote him out in 2027. |
nairalanda1:Consequent upon the introduction of student loan by BAT towards the end of 2023, a lot, if not all Federal Universities hiked their fees to over 100k and close to 200k. You can verify this. To me the Universities have already started what the man is canvassing. Is he trying to suggest another hike when the dust of the previous one is yet to settle? No nation or economy can grow without a virile education scheme. Education, whether academic, technical or vocational is the only means of developing a sustainable economic manpower. Lack of empowerment breeds criminality in any clime that sustains it. Mark my words, things will continue to get worse in Nigeria unless and until there is an intentional policy plan to educate the increasing Nigerian populace academically, vocationally and technically. How can this be achieved if the already pauperized Nigerians are still expected to cough out hundreds of thousands as tuition? |

kingthreat:Show me a politician who isn't an attention seeker, even beyond Nigeria, and I will immediately show you a man who starts a business in which he is destined to fail. Attention seeking is the blood every politician lives on. Their attention-seeking tools include manifesto, propaganda, accidental philanthropy, demarketing their opponents, commissioning fake projects etc |
Confirmedzombie:The journey of a thousand miles always starts with a step. Every global entrepreneur of today had an unbelievable very humble beginning. I doesn't pay to be a killjoy. |
Chukwuka319: In my opinion, it is better to address the message and leave the messenger. This is the only way to foster national unity. |
I think the Lagos State government is being politically deceitful on this. By law anyone who is on level one collects a minimum wage and nothing must be deducted from it. However, I know some level one civil servants in Lagos State who receive less than 30k monthly when they are supposed to collect 35k. Those who care should do their findings about this. Most people have misunderstood the governor. He didn't say the expected minimum wage is going to be 70k. He only said that if you add 35k wage award to the statutory Lagos minimum wage of 35k, it's like paying a 70k minimum wage since last year when the wage award was recommended by the President. Finally those praising Lagos State government are ignorant of the financial status of the State. This is a State that is richer than about 5 African countries put together. All American States don't pay the same minimum wage. They pay according to their economic capacity. Why can't Lagos stand out in this aspect and stop playing to the gallery? How effective has his weekly ""ounje eko" been? Will Lagos go bankrupt if transportation is heavily subsidized instead of removing a paltry 25% from BRT fares? Did he not reduce BRT fares by 50% before his re-election last year only to cancel it immediately he won. Lagos is the richest State after the Federal government. Even Ambode would have done better than Sanwoolu in terms of seeking people's welfare. |
Paraman:Dino dumped PDP and moved to APC. How can you compare this to that of Ortom who worked for another party without officially renouncing his PDP membership. |
Abass07: Since 1999 till date Obasanjo remains the most impactful Nigerian president. Yaradua could possibly have been if he ruled for long. I really wish and hope Tinubu will be able to better Obj's performance for the good of everyone. |
This ugly incident reminds me of how the aides to Bola Ige(former Justice minister) were said to have dispersed before he too was later found dead in his home. |
TINTINABULATION:Gbenga Daniel wrote to the Ogun State government to SUSPEND his pension as a former governor since he's a serving senator. This implies that the payment must continue after his senatorial tenure. Abia is talking about total abolition. How is Ogun the pacesetter on this issue? |
Check the Obasanjo regime, it was mostly his own people. Same complaints most people did today of Yorubanization was same during President Obasanjo. Check Late President Yar’adua, it was same thing, Katsina The assertion above is grossly misleading. Obasanjo started the culture of a nationalistic choice of cabinet and all his PDP presidential successors emulated him. On the other hand, Buhari started the culture of a tribalistic choice of cabinet and Tinubu has followed his footsteps. Get your facts right Mr Adams. I put it to you that you wrote this piece to draw Tinubu's attention to your side. |
The stay of Pro Osinbajo in the saddle of power when Muhammadu Buhari was out of the country for 100 days was a testament to how pleasant his government would have been if he was given the chance. I remember one PDP stalwart who was always critical of PMB coming out few days to Buhari's arrival to say that Buhari should not bother to come back lest he scattered what the Prof had started doing. I laughed seeing that even the opposition was enjoying Prof Osinbajo. Happy birthday PYO. |
I was there in 2007 when OBj knelt down for Atiku to allow him finish his 8years in peace because Atiku has already started campaigning for Presidency. That was the year he left power. Which term was he begging to finish again? |
Guyfawkes2:Obj served out his term in 2007. BH began in 2009. |
Krankhead:Please compare him to his successors and objectively show us how Obj "destroyed" Nigeria. Thanks. |
Krankhead:Obj's choice of cabinet members portrayed him as the most detribalised Nigerian president ever. In fact he also went across political party divide to pick Bola Ige of the the then AD as a minister twice despite he being in PDP. He preferred performance to ethnic or party loyalty. Just look at an array of Okonjo-Iweala, Elrufai, Soludo, Ezekwesili, Nweke Jn etc and you will understand why he's still the best so far. Whoever wants to out-perform him must embrace this liberal outlook too. |
Gjrich:The Southeast wasn't involved in the emergence of the current President. Why should they be the front runner in solving the problem they didn't create? |
What Tinubu is doing is an attempt to refocus things so that the pains will not be even more in the future. Tinubu demonstrates the boldness many before him lacked. I hope you are referring to the boldness of removing fuel subsidy. Because the first president to remove this subsidy was President Goodluck Jonathan while the ringleader of the group that stood against and destroyed this boldness was Bola Tinubu, the current president. No country thrives on HYPOCRISY. |
Gadafii:This is why I am not an advocate of subsidy removal, it's the only benefit the average Nigerian gets from our successive inept political rulers. Any subsidy removal gives them more money to steal. If they can't subsidise fuel what about food, transportation and university education? |
MaxInDHouse:You need to back up your accusation with a solid proof. Otherwise, you are merely throwing the tantrums. |
