@Jakumo
God forbid!!!
There are too many frustrated, depressed, disoriented and angry men and women roaming the streets of Nigeria.
Because of the hardship been experience by many, they are always at an edge. Ready to snap at the least provocation. Giving such people lethal weapons in the name of self defense will make no sense.
I can assure you that many innocent lives will be wasted.
A hungry man is not in a good position to make good decision. Someone that has been subjected to so much suffering and frustration will be willing to kill for just about any reason.
The policemen in Nigeria are good example of how frustrated human beings can really behave like pysho.

If the value of the dollar is falling fast, then what is all the noise been made down here about the Naira appreciating against the dollar?

This thread has indeed cause me to pause and think twice about all the noise been made about the economy of Nigeria improving. I guess it is not as good as the FG guys will have us think (I don't mean there is no improvement - rather it looks to me that there has been some exaggeration).

I guess Prof. Soludo has to move fast before we loose all that foreign reserve we've been making so much noise about.

shocked This is another crisis in the forming. The executive and the legislatures might not agree on the same conclusion as far as this issue is concerned. huh
The legislature are aggrieved already, so I guess they will just use this opportunity to pay Obasanjo back for what they claimed he did in the PDP primaries.
Meanwhile, if by any stroke of luck, the legislature agree with the presidency and Atiku is striped of his position as the VP. Then the man will be on his way to jail for sure. EFCC will make sure he is jailed before May 29th 2007. angry

May God deliver us from all this confusion.

PoliticsRe: Atiku Abubakar Emerged Ac Presidential Aspirant by scribe(m): 5:33pm On Dec 21, 2006
God forbid that Atiku or any of those old politician should be Nigeria's next president. Enough is enough of the looting.

How can a man that partook of a meal turn round when the bowl is almost empty to start preaching that it is stolen meal. If he so claim, then he must be a criminal with double award.

1. First award - because he confessed that he has just partook of a stolen meal.

2. Second award - A criminal because he is a traitor to the other thieves.

I pray and look forward to a day when people of integrity like Mrs. Akinyuli of NAFDAC will rule this nation.

God Bless Nigeria.
May the Lord help us get rid of all pen robbers, looters e.t.c. just like he removed Abacha from our political life. cool
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke For 2007 Presidency? by scribe(m): 1:01pm On Dec 09, 2006
An achiever needs no praise singer. The common man can easily appreciate what he has done. So Duke needs no professor to educate us on his achievements. We only need to look and then we can make up our minds without anyone assisting us that the man is an achiever.
However, a thief, a cheat, a deceiver , and the like must need employ smooth talkers, accomplished orators, grammarians, scholars whose palms have been well oiled to explain away all the failures that the common man can see and also magnify the scanty accomplishment to exaggerated proportion.
He will need to explain to us that the reason why we don't appreciate his accomplishment is because we are ridiculously limited in knowledge. He must need explain that the reason why we cannot appreciate what he has done is because we need more education and enlighment which only his cronies can provide.
Men, if they allow us to vote, and the vote do count. I will rather vote Duke for President. ACTIONS SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS.
FamilyRe: Terminating A Six Month Pregnancy by scribe(m): 11:03am On Dec 06, 2006
Tell your friend that the word of God says "Thou shall not kill"
Let her give birth to the baby and then give the baby out for adoption. Too many women are crying to God for children. So she should not add the sin of murder to the sin of immorality. God's arms are yet wide open to receive her. Let her harken to Isaiah 1:18 -20
Her situation is not the worst. If she is willing, with godly counsel she will come out of this mess with testimonies of God's goodness. But if she choose to listen to the devil's counsel, she will soon become a murderer and the devil will have a good reason to terminate her life also.
She is warned.
God loves her, so let her run to God. That is her best choice. Shalom
PoliticsRe: Odili's Futile Quest For The Presidency by scribe(m): 10:06am On Dec 06, 2006
The lies being told about the so called achievements of Sir. Peter Odili are horrible. Port Harcourt which is the state capital has a terrible story to tell about the poor state of infrastructure.
Instead of making progress the state capital has lost its old beauty and glory. It was indeed a garden city. But now it is best described as
- Garbage City
- Pot hole city
- blackout or darkness city

The present administration has craftily presented a false picture to visitors to the city and the president. The road that links the airport to the government house is presentable even though it has been under construction for more than a year now. But at least it one of the two roads that are motorable. The government ensures that the pot-holes on the road does not go unattended to for more than 2 days.
Also, the new government house is a beauty to behold. Every rivers state indegene will be proud to associate with the edifice.
Finally, the ABA/PORTHARCOURT expressway is often maintained because it is the main road that runs through the middle of the city of Port Harcourt.
That is the end of the effort.
If anyone dares step out of the ABA/PH expressway and the new airport road (Named New Oluobasanjo Road), the person will meet horrible pot holes that will leave a remarkable scar on his or her vehicle.
Also, the Gas Turbine is a terrible facade. Only, residents of the government house and those living in the neighbourhood of the government house enjoys constant electricity.
But the truth is that, a visitor of the present administration cannot see these things that we are complaining about. The visitor will most likely come through the airport. He or she will be conveyed through the new airport road. So the visitor will only see good road, beautiful sights (solar street lighted in the night) until he or she gets to the government house. From the government house, the visitor will be conveyed through ABA/PH expressway to whatever location the present administration wants him or her to visit.
So tell me, why won't such a visitor belief the lies being peddled in the TV and Newspaper about the wonderful works of Governor Odili.
The residents of Port Harcourt knows the truth about Sir. Odili. Their prayer is that he must never become the president of Nigeria, because if he does, then only Abuja will be anything to talk about in Nigeria. Every other city will surely suffer neglect.
Let any other rivers man stand up and vie for the presidency, he will be supported with our prayer. But not Sir. Odili. The military administrators were better than him.
He is a handsome orator. He gained the people's support through subtility. But after seven years of ruling, Port Harcourt and the entire Rivers State is worse off.
The evidences are on the ground for anyone to see.
Go to Diobu, Town, Rumuokoro, Rumuodara, Rumuokrushi, Ozuoba, Wimpey etc. Then you will see the "dividend of democracy" cry cry cry
BusinessRe: Your Bank Might Be Defrauding You? by scribe(m): 1:26pm On Dec 02, 2006
It is a fact that many banks defraud their unsuspecting customers. Just think about it "one naira here, one naira there will end up making a mighty One Million Naira"
How many of us, really care to calculate and ensure that we have not been overcharged with anything below 50naira. Often times, we stop cross-checking once we are certain that the balance given to us is correct to the nearest 1,000. And therein lies the trick. A bank having over One Million Accounts, can make several millions a month just by fraudulently overcharging extra 5naira, 10naira e.t.c. As long as the amount is not up to what can buy a bottle of Maltina, many of us cannot be bothered.
Not once, not twice I've caught my bankers doing this funny stuff. When I insist on the "error" being corrected, the bank officer grudgingly corrects it, but not without nicknaming me "bean counter"
At such time, I just wonder, what happens to the big Onitsha merchants and the Alaba traders, who don't have time for such perusal of bank statements. They must be contributing unwittingly to someone's purse. grin grin grin

Christianity EtcRe: Is President Obasanjo Really Born Again? by scribe(m): 2:21pm On Nov 30, 2006
An interesting question, but who can be sure of the answer. A born-again child of God who is living a life of compromise will very much look like a cronic unbeliever. Also, anyone can pretend to be born-again. Only God can expose the truth. We can only pray that the answer should be YES he is born-again. Then we will know that the Spirit of God can make him do what is right if we continually pray for him.

TravelRe: ADC Plane Crash In Abuja by scribe(m): 11:03am On Oct 30, 2006
The Planes are not to blame!!!
cry cry cryWhat manner of horror can be compared to this. A friend bid his friend safe journey only to be called back within 15minutes that the person he was just having a banter with not too long ago has been forcefully sent to the great beyond.
It is terrible. Truly, the effect of the monumentaly damage done to the various systems in Nigeria is obvious for all to see.

I sincerely believe that the planes are not to be blamed. The age of the plane is not necessarily the problem. The issue goes well beyond that.

Too many air passengers, including my humble self know fully well that the way Nigerians run molue in Lagos is quite similar to the way many of the airline operators run their aircraft.

It is almost impossible to operate the planes profitably if all the required safety standards were to be adhered to. I found out that that is the main reason why Aero Contractor charge more. You don't need anyone to tell you the difference between Aero Contractor's planes and the other operators (I am not advertising for Aero in anyway).

The molue's in the 80's were safe mode of transportation in Nigeria. However, as the rotteness in government increased, and the economy was getting mismanaged, the cost of maintaining those vehicles became more and more unaffordable to the operators.
So the operators, started relying more on the free insurance coverage for their vehicles (Psalm 23, The Blood of Jesus e.t.c) were painted on those vehicles and that's all. Some spend money to get charms which they tie to their vehicles.

But common sense tells one that God is not an errand boy. You can't create a mess and then request Him to clean up after you. If you do not take care of your vehicle, surely it will break down.

Now, we have carried the same wrong attitude to the aviation industry. Machines that are designed to work with optimal precisions are now being carelessly handled and we try to cover up our shortcomings by praying. Doesn't common sense tell us that a smoking, vibrating and noisy plane is in need of maintanance, not passengers' prayer

How can we expect an airplane that is not well maintained to be as safe as those one's in UK and US. Never believe the cock and bull story and all the false papers and certificates being paraded.
If you have ever entered any of those FLYING COFFINS that we refer to as plane in Nigeria, you will know without been told that those machines are not been maintained according to the standards set by the manufacturers.
- Planes making thunderous noise when taking off or landing is a normal thing in Nigeria.
- It is in Nigeria that you will see a plane that is taking off producing BLACK SMOKE as if it is a firewood FURNACE.
- It is in Nigeria that you enter a plane and by the time you come down your joints will be aching because your experience is best compared to someone that has just been riding a car that has no shock-absorbers on a rocky terrain

May God help us.

Let the same treatment given to the banking sector be given to the aviation industry. I strongly belief it will help reduce the problem. Meanwhile let's pray for a total overhauling of the system in place in Nigeria. Right from Aso Rock to the man on the street. So that engineers responsible for maintainance will not be "managing" what ought to be overhauled.

Admin I think it is time you call members on this thread to stop attacking each other. I believe everyone should be allowed to post their different opinions without calling others with differ opinion unprintable names. If we truly want a better Nigeria, we can at least show a good example by tolorate each other in Nairaland. I stand to be corrected. "Agba ki wa loja, kori omo tuntun wo"

I personally enjoy reading the different opinions cause it gives a better picture than the one being portrayed in the sponsored media.

BusinessRe: You Do Not Need Money To Start A Successful Business by scribe(m): 10:41am On Oct 19, 2006
@radiant
Your statement wasn't funny

I think the title of this post is misleading. However, the comments made by various contributors must have encouraged a would be entreprenuer not to loose hope just because he/she has little or no capital to start his dream business.
Truly, no matter how poor or wretched a man is, if he can only think long enough, he will discover that God has deposited something with him that can be used as a launch-pad for his business.
It is evident that when a man becomes desperate, he tends to generate more ideas and think of more solutions.

I quite love the testimony shared by FORGIVEN. Irrespective of the poor infrastructure in Nigeria, many young men and women are still forging ahead simply by not throwing in the towel for lack of MONEY.
In Nigerian cities, it is still possible for someone to start a successful business from ground zero. Once you don't mind doing the work of a labourer despite your B.Sc. it is a matter of time, you will eventually get the capital to fund your idea.

PoliticsRe: Atiku's Aide Shot Dead By Police by scribe(m): 2:45pm On Oct 03, 2006
@Odeku
I appreciate the point you're trying to make about what an ideal police force should be. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is not so. Let me share a personal experience with you.

HOW I WAS SLAPPED BY A POLICE OFFICER IN THE PRESENCE OF MANY WITNESSES
I entered a cab on my way to office last year. The cab picked me before a T-junction. We did not know that a female police officer was watching from afar. When we got to the junction, the cop asked the driver to stop the car because he has committed an offense by picking a passenger (me) along the road.
The taxi man thinking the lady was joking, told her "ha, sister, na me o. You know know me again". To cut the long story short. More policemen came to join the female cop and then ordered all the passenger in the vehicle to come down.

I was seating in the passenger seat beside the driver. I pleaded with the cops that they should forgive the cab man as it is too early in the morning to take the man to their station (I pleaded even though I didn't believe that the man has done anything wrong. I said it was too early in the morning because I knew that all they were after is just to extort money from the man).
Unfortunately, they refused and insisted that the poor cab man must follow them to the station. For a brief moment, I forgot that I was in Nigeria. I wanted to be my brother (the cab man) keeper. I told the young policeman that opened the front door for me to go down that I will not (what foolishness).
Before I understand what was happening, about four of them entered the cab. One forced himself into the passenger seat beside me and told me clearly, that I will no longer be permitted to go down from the cab. I thought I was in a civilised city (I guess too much American/European movies has made me forgotten that the Nigerian Police man is an emperor that can not be query). I told the cop that since I have committed no offense, he has no basis to arrest me (I thought I was in a civilised society where every citizen has rights) and take me to their station. That was a big mistake that I made. The cop, who obviously is younger than myself, gave me a dirty slap in the presence of his colleagues and unlookers. He started shouting on top of his voice that he will deal with me so that I will learn not to meddle in other people's problem. (Remember, I was only trying to plead for the poor taxi man, I didn't know that it was a big offense).

It was a sad event. I was fortunate that their inspector was not too far away. He came around and asked questions. I thought I was dreaming, when the young police officer (in front of his colleagues) lied to him that I was hindering them from carrying out their legitimate duty.  shocked None the less, I narrated my ordeal to the inspector, hoping that as an elderly man (from his look I guess he was more educated than the junior officers) he will call his boys to order and apologise to me. Instead, he simply told me to go away, and order that the cab man should be arrested and taken to the station.
You can guess the rest of the story. I quickly left the place before more harm will be done to me.

Some weeks after, I followed a colleague to the policestation that is not too far from the spot of the accident. The same policeman that slapped me greeted my colleague and I "Good morning Sirs". Obviously, the cop has forgotten that I was the same man he slapped and manhandled.

My advice to all Nairalander is that whenever they come into contact with Nigerian Police, they should forget all the beautiful statements and promises that the IG makes through the news media. Please, play the fool so that you can remain alive to tell the story. Do not try to prove any point. Too many lives have been wasted just because of 20naira.

Christianity EtcRe: My Relationship With A Married Pastor by scribe(m): 3:43pm On Sep 07, 2006
@Nameless
Forgive me if I sound too harsh. But I must say that you are not been real to yourself. As an adult, you need to sit down and ask yourself some important questions.

1. If I were the pastor wife, how will I feel about what is happening?

2. If I were the pastor wife, what will I pray that God should do to the lady that is trying to break my home?

NOTE: I assume the wife loves the man, so she will heap all the blame for the illicit affair on you. You will be labeled the seducer. You can be sure that the congregation will call you a Delilah when the secret comes into the open.

3. When this affair is exposed (be sure that the devil is just waiting for the most appropriate time, when the damage will be greater), will I still be able to call this church my church?

4. Will the pastor still be able to show loving-kindness after the scandal?

If you sincerely answer those questions, it is most likely that you will be convinced that you have no option than to leave the pastor, the church and the congregation immediately.

I must let you know that your story is not strange at all. It happens from one generation to another. It is the same trick, the same strategy and the same result. It is the Devil trying to destroy your destiny.

Pouring aconium on the "pastor" does not change the fact that he is enticing you to sin with him. That he is called a pastor and he has done many good things will not change the judgement of God on sexual sin.

From your writings, it is obvious that you are well educated enough to read your Bible without assistance. There are too many stories that are recorded in the bible about WAYS THAT SEEMS RIGHT BUT ENDED UP IN DESTRUCTION.
You said in your writing that you have a job. So it is assumed that you can take care of yourself financially.
You said that you have given your life to Christ, so we can assume that you understand what it means to have God as your Father.

What else are you looking for? You need to shift your focus away from yourself, and very soon you will be surrounded with so many people who truly love you because you are a child of God, not because of what they can get from you.
If you sincerely, go out of your way to look for little girls that are suffering around you and you try to comfort them, you will be surprise that soon you will have too many friends than you can possibly cope with.

Please, be reminded that the flesh loves being indulged. The flesh loves sympathy. It sounds more nice telling you that you have been victimized. You have been taken advantage of. But of what benefit are all those comment if you end up in destruction.
With your education, you have no excuse for allowing anybody, no matter what he/she claim to be to brainwash you into doing what you KNOW deep down is WRONG. The bible say that our God is HOLY. So they that must worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

If you read through all the comment. Not a single person has written that the affair you're having is a GOOD thing. So I wonder what you think God's judgement will be like if you continue.

If you need more counsel, I will advise you do the following:

Open a new Yahoo or Hotmail E-mail account. Put it in your next post. That will enable well meaning people to establish correspondents with you. I am very sure that sincere children of God (daughters of Zion) that are females like yourself will have so much good counsel to offer. Some might even go as far as making physical contact with you.

Finally, I will love to say, cheer-up. You are beloved to God. He calls you the apple of His eyes. So don't sell yourself to the devil. For you were bought with the precious blood of the Lamb.
