why Neymar and not any other player? that is left for the coach to answer since he's closer to the players than most of us.. we can only guess that he took the wrong decision since you can't say the result would have been different if it was another player he removed.

But going by his play yesterday, he was a constant threat to the opponent, pushing their defence back by his constant trouble. If he was not taken off, yes, Sevilla might equalise but we might have also scored a winning goal. So, it's a two way thing.
May I humbly put this question to you: would you have taken off Ney for Xavi last night or someone else were you the coach?

I was unable to watch the match, but trust me to follow it live via my phone. Immediately I read Ney was pulled off for Xavi, I asked why and what for? We were leading then and the coach wanted to have more control in the midfield, an idea that was very okay. But to have traded the much lively attack for the needed control was the error not forgetting that their active defence had to be pushed back.
@JP, at this juncture, hardly would you see any cule criticising Lucho these days since he had maintained balance in the team. But to say he didn't make mistake last night is not acceptable even after he himself had admitted he made one. We are human and as such are liable to error at one point or the other. What many don't know is that Barca don't just sell their home grown boys anyhow, especially the proven ones. Unless they decide to leave on their own. It's a way of giving respect to them for what they have done for the club. Players like Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi are living legends, and you can't afford to treat them anyhow. Wonder why Xavi is permitted to make his own decision?

Pedro is not thes same player anymore. But I beg to disagree on Montoya, using Rafinha as comparison is unfair on the guy. They are both substitute players but one often plays even as starter and sub while the other hardly touches the ball.
