Thanks for your response.

Concerning their website for checking app status, it's always bringing up error message.....thought I was d only one experiencing such.

Safe trip to TrumpLand grin

Hi Everyone,
It's been long since I've been here, I just want to quickly share my testimony.

I came to know about this thread through my mom last year when I was getting ready for the GRE, I didn't really talk much here but this thread was very helpful. I got a lot of materials from here and even more, I got people who really helped me from here, especially @happyday. I didn't do so well on my GRE (308) though I did very well on the TOEFL, so I was very discouraged but people encouraged me that it was still possible to get funding so I decided to work hard on my application (I applied to only one school) .
I contacted happyday to help me on my applications and he did every single step of the way, tirelessly reading through and correcting my essays, and giving me advice about how to email professors and other things.
After finally submitting the application, I was granted admission but no funding. However, they informed me that there is a professor who is interested in funding me but he is waiting on some grants.

Thank you very much.

PS: The school is University of Arkansas and my course is Agricultural Economics (MS).
Congratulations! This is really a great news! So there's still hope for full funding for MS applicants like us wink

This is one of the schools I applied to, but yet to get their decision. Pleaae, when did you submit your application and how were u notified of the admission/funding decision?....I keep checking my profile online and no update angry

Visa Approved this morning....
Hi everyone, I want to thank those that continue to support the movement and purpose of this thread. My Visa interview was for 6:30am this morning, I was feeling uneasy all through the night, I woke up around 4am, left my house by 4:55am, I was driving like a snail I didnt even want any stories. I finally got to the embassy like 5:35am, I paid for parking, about 5 guys just rushed me and started telling to arrange my document staple this and that make copy of my passport page that the rules have changed, but as a product of this thread I didn't even answer them, I was the 4th person to be interviewed, it was barely up to 5 mins sef, see my transcript below;

VO; Good morning, how are you
Me; Good morning Sir, I am fine
VO; Pass me your passport and 1-20
Why are you going to the US
Me; I am going to the University of Connecticut for Masters in Business Analytics as Big data is the new wave in Africa and I want to be one of the forerunners of understanding data mining and how Business can (I cant even remember what I said..lol)
VO; oh Uconn, that’s great. Where do you work?
Me; Senior Consultant atXXXX (International Company)
VO; Oh that’s a great Company, hope you enjoyed your time working there?
Me; Yes I have..its being a great time, we have won a couple of employers satisfaction awards in the last few years.
VO; oh really, they would never win that in the US, they are really tough u know ( I just knew my visa was approved from this point)
ME; yes when some of them come to Nigeria, they always want to stay back.
VO; how are you going to pay for your studies?
Me; I got a loan from Prodigy finance and my brother is also sponsoring me
VO; ok… I see you are a genuine student and I would be approving your visa. He returned my 1-20 and the collection ish
Me; Thank you Sir.

The three guys that went before me were still talking to the VO. I just started singing praises all the way to my car, people were just congratulating because it was soo obvious I just got my visa approved.
Congrats ....a sweet transcript it is!

Second offer from University of Virginia. Fully funded with a research fellowship + RAship. Rather late because I already accepted Penn State after waiting on Virginia for soooooo long. Spoke with my super nice POI from Virginia and he really wants to work with me smiley and putting me in a big fix. Lol. Oh! And I already have my I-20 from Penn and paid SEVIS. Ah well... I don't know. grin

Scholastica16, how far for your end?
Wow wow wow!!! And they finally made it official to you. I knew u would definitely get something very good from UofV based on your earlier correspondence with your POI.....congrats dear.

I-20 already received from Penn State... shocked that's pretty fast! TrumpLand welcomes DrHopeful grin

Congrats RexCheeng, that's a very good score. I wish all d best with your school applications. Also, thank you for sharing your experience.....I'm sure other prospective test takers will benefit from your personal experience.

I'm really surprised this issue with ChiomaL0ngLEGZ being a scam went this far. The problem is that most people on Nairaland are quick to run into conclusion....

ChiomaL0ngLEGZ, u also went too far, u didn't have to be belligerent in making your points clear....though I know that feeling: when u have good intentions towards people and they see otherwise undecided

I didn't see Chioma having the intention to scam peeps here, she's probably new in LSU and just wanted to connect with fellow Nigerians which was why she came on NL. I think peeps here had the perception that she wanted to form a GRE WhatsApp group from here which is not encouraged. As a matter of fact, I'm in the WhatsApp group even though I'm not in LSU yet, and nobody is scamming anyone there....in fact, I'm enjoying d scamming in d group, lol grin
Please, let's always try to make conclusion based on verified evidence.

Have a great week my people....

Scholastica16:
Good day Dr. X,

I hope this meets you well. I was recently accepted into the department of X and Y at your institution for a Master's program. Yours was at the top of my list so you can understand my excitement on receiving the email.

I am using this opportunity to express my interest in securing a position in the department as a research or a teaching assistant. Apart from the tuition waiver and maybe stipend that the position will assure me of, I am vying for it because I believe it falls within my long term academic ambition to push for a doctoral position in your institution at the conclusion of the masters program and I am convinced that participating in an assistantship will help nuture me into further graduate study.

Let me chime in at this point to state that I am extemely resourceful; time conscious; diligent and above all disciplined enough to more than contribute my own fair share to the success of my program, the department and the University of X or Y as a whole. In fact, when you meet me in person you would agree.

Thank you for taking your time to read this. I will be expecting a response from you Sir/Ma.

Regards,

Topiipii/Andradaeze

You have nothing to lose. They already gave you the admission they cannot rescind it at this point. Besides, they know graduate school is expensive. You can even tell them FX issues in Nigeria will forestall your academic dreams. But waiting by and by will do nothing as they would assume you are OBO.
My Goddness! You're such a blessing to this thread. Look at the piece you effortlessly composed for someone else's predicament.....weldone man!
You are such a good man, helping people here with your talent. I'm seriously praying for your admission with good funding cos you truly deserve such....
I look forward to your testimony soon.

Remain blessed!

ChiomaL0ngLEGZ:
lol, i am new to this nairaland thing so dunno how to do that. You can forward my details to him abeg. LSU is slow so for all the people who are waiting lemme tell you, I applied in mid January 2016 and only heard from them in late April. So be patient. Chances are like 90 percent that you will get accepted because Louisiana is one of the three poorest states in USA, they keep cutting funding so they urgently need International students to bring money in. Plus the uni is overwhelmingly white and they try to balance out the whote-ethnic minority ratio and so on so ALL OF U WHOEVER U R(contact me if u still havent-lol), U WILL GET ACCEPTANCE 100 like honestly!!! Its such an easy school to get in but na real bush here ooooh.IF you dont have a car, u aint going nower.Busses run 1-2 an hour.Even lagos is better sef.lmao
Sorry to ask, were u admitted to LSU with full funding? I asked because funding determines our school of choice in this recession grin. Another LSU hopeful here.

Also, we'd appreciate if you can share your application/admission experience at LSU with us. Was ur admission for MS or PhD, n possibly your course......huh

Amen brother. Hope you have sent emails to the program coordinators with respect to funding. That's the best bet now to get that TA/RA before you leave Nigeria.

2 more Admits and 1 denial from my end.

Admits:
****************************************************
Florida State University. No assistantship yet.
It was stated in d offer email that I MIGHT be contacted by a professor for assistantship not later than 1st May. **fingers crossed**

Wright State University with Tuition scholarship of $1,250 per semester for 4 semesters provided GPA is >= 3.0....bla bla. It doesn't look like a good option, cos d money no reach anywhere lipsrsealed. TAMUK offer seems better.
****************************************************
Then Denial;
Wayne State University. Reason was that they don't admit candidates without BS Mechanical Engineering into their MS Mechanical Engineering program. They advised me to apply for MS in Chemical or Material Engineering program instead......nothing much was lost as app fee was waived for me when I applied.

Decision from d main schools are still pending...

Success to ALL of us....

Ndawe:
Good morning house, a quick update. I've received 3 decisions out of 4 applications:

Tennessee Tech: Admitted; admission letter was sent early this morning and funding decision will be known in the last week of March.
Michigan Tech: Denied sad. The email just dropped. Reason for denial: "There currently is no advisor available in your specified area of interest"
Clarkson Uni: Admitted (This is a private school though): Some funding was provided actually but not enough, so I may have to decline.

Still waiting on Mississippi State Uni.

*modified*
Congrats dear....I'm convinced you will get good funding from Tennessee Tech and/or Mississippi State Uni. Na just one juicy offer we need grin

Please, I need help on transcript evaluation.

How do I evaluate by transcript by WES?
How much is it?
How long will it take to get to the school after the transcript is evaluated.

Thanks
From d day I ordered for a copy of my evaluated transcript from WES to be sent to a school, to d day the school received it was approximately 3 days....so it doesn't take much time to get ur evaluated transcript across to a school in d US.
You will get all other necessary info here: www.wes.org

Should u have more specific question after checking d site, please don't hesitate to ask....

Bowling Green State University: Masters in Mathematics. Admitted, funding decision to come later.
Congratulations!!! All d best with funding...

You are right (Confirm your NAIRA first before you send your Dollar to US Bank Account) , It looks like some scammers are waiting for Dollar/Naira exchange from members. They will use real nairaland account to contact you through PM for WES payment in order to get your email. Then three days later, another email will contact you directly (without passing through Nairaland PM) that he saw your post on nairaland that he need dollar and ask you to send your dollar to US bank account... BEWARE !!!
Na wa oo....why are people so wicked! lipsrsealed
