@Odunayaw

Is NAF ever going to receive the Yabhon Flash UAV?

It's been 3 years since the news of its acquisition broke with no hint or information about delivery.

I will join u in the same grin

Problem is universal , in all countries , what varies is the extent.

People no longer read books but read blogs forums which have no verified information.

So much information both right and wrong available online , one cannot differential between right and wrong , people simply choose what suits them.
Some of my countrymen just refuse to question and update the narrative they inherited from their progenitors. The image of our capabilities they carry in their heads is frozen in the 1980s when we had it "good"(Relatively glorious days militarily speaking).

Now we are confronted by unpleasant realities which are so bitter to accept. I weep for the country I love.

Observation satellites r mostly in polar LEO orbits.

They have a revisit time during which an entire army can pass through the region of interest , without ur satellite and u being wise to it grin

Too much Hollywood sir
If it includes American pie I will forgive u grin
I'm joining you to laugh my guts out grin. If my country men can remove their subjective lenses and look reality smack in the face then a quarter of our problems will be solved.

We seem to have this false, inaccurate and overbloated sense of proportion with respect to the outside world.

AFAIK
1.
TIME came into existence the moment LIGHT came into existence
...
Note : Movement in space is dependent on light because creation of space is a result of distance traveled by light.
I hold the opinion that the birth of the universe came into existence with the formation of matter (mass irrespective of its magnitude) at the point of the big bang and that time is what intelligent beings use to measure and grasp the dynamic changes matter undergoes in its interaction with forces like gravity, energy etc.

Nemesis8u does this opinion hold water?

(I believe even light has mass no matter how miniscule that might be)

GabrielYulaw:
Is the JF-17 what is actually required? Are they going to be dogfighting with Boko Haram planes or the Chadian Air Force? While ostensibly multi role, the payload and range of the JF-17 is simply too limited...
Many followers of the Nigerian military and its acquisitions felt the same as you when the JF-17s were first ordered years ago. Some questioned the choice of the Thunders; others the rationale behind ordering from an "unproven" Pakistan instead of China. But there is really nothing one can do when you are not a member of the top decision making echelon of the military. If I recall correctly news about the JF-17s only became public after orders were made.
***Tough luck; we will have to make do with what is provided and available***

SU 34 is an aircraft I'd love NAF to acquire. However the Platypus is a twin engine fighter-bomber and one must be realistic about the conditions on ground (limited miltary funding for example). Can we afford the number of units required? Can the airforce budget accommodate the per hour operating cost of such platforms? Does it match our present and likely future threats? Can it perform the close air support operations we desperately need?

These are just a few of the questions that comes to mind. If we can afford it and it fits the role it's needed for then all good. But with the kind of constraints we face I would rank a multirole aircraft that can perform cas way above a dedicated fighter-bomber on our acquisition list. (Note: I'm NOT justifying the choice of JF-17s).

On the C-130s: again affordability keeps rearing its head. And I agree with you completely on the competence of the top staff in the military. Unless for a few bright heads most lack that pragmatic, out-of-the-box mindset needed for such times as this.

Note that this is just a personal opinion and it is highly subjective.

naija which way
I've been excitedly expectant for like 4 years or so now for the first delivery of the JF-17s. Been thoroughly disappointed.
At this rate I won't be surprised if NAF receives the Super Tucanoes from Sierra Nevada co. before the Thunders start arriving from Pakistan. Sighs sad

WRT multi generational poverty and social unrest personally I prefer micro and macro level self financing initiatives , with no involvement of any sort of institutions , by the people and for the people.

Biggest advantage u r grassroot economic growth is directly proportional to ur capacity growth. No speclative bullshiit. And importantly it empowers the people at the grassroot levels who r the real growth engine.
It takes time , so do all good things. Importantly every thing keeps moving barely but the catch word is everything ie everybody is involved ie social inclusion.
OMG! This is similar to what I'm trying to do in my community, especially with young people. People helping one another at the micro level to acquire in-demand skills in order to improve their welfare. I just need to work on my personal finances to kick start this.

You will be surprised at the impact and ripple effect an individual who possesses a relevant skill set has on his or her family and society.

joeloseiga:
But what about as young people, in what was can we build a strong relationship across the entire region?
As young people your reach will be limited by the level of resources at your command. So you will need leverage.

Here is where the internet comes in.

Nairaland, for example, has done a good job of connecting Africans, say from East and Southern Africa, with West Africans. I just wish petty bloggers will feed us less with sensational stories from that end.
I wish to see cooperation across borders amongst young ones to improve their economic/social situation and in turn that of their communities.

So in short: lets use the internet more productively as a tool to boost connectivity.

(If one can afford it pays to travel as well to see other African civilizations and people. The altered world view it gives is priceless)
