This Airline is still functional, but whether it is still making profit is another thing. thejonny09: On Saturday 12-12-09 in CNN Richard Quest Traveler show, they shown how some guys are buying old aircraft cut off their parts and use them for furniture like bed, reception desk, office desk etc. Okada Air is the man dead, how about his family; they should sell off those aircraft and make fortune from it rather than wastage.
@ selingel and enjoyment1 thanks for this brief and informed aviation pictures you guys really have passion for it. What is wrong with Chanchangi? Thanks Dear. Chanchangi is really dieing as a result of family invasion, and nonchallant attitude of the present management. They are owing their staff so much, yet, they are making so much too. |

hackney: @ poster: this is a very welcome achievement.
@redsun: I used to have a similar opinion to you about our maintenance culture untill my in-law flew aero contractors from ABJ . Now, My in-law is so critical of the standards in naija that i think its a miracle that he flew internally in naija. Now he sings ; aero aero aero.
Airlines like aero contractors and arik air are actually very good (maybe world) standard as far as mechanical integrity of the air planes are concerned.(and na oyibo dey look after those areas)
Other than aero contractors , arik air and then virgin naija , not sure i will fly any other lines sha. I am not surprised people are praising Aero, Arik, and Virgin Nigeria (Now Nigerian Eagle). Those are world class airlines in this country. Others are waiting for their time to join the history book of defunct airlines in Nigeria. |

Chanchangi used to be a very good airline especially when ADC Airlines collapsed. It was when the man handed the airline to his useless children, everything collapsed. You will not believe it, they do not bank their money. All the sales in all their outlets are sent to their head office in Kaduna. Ask any of their sales staff, and you will be surprised what they are doing there. The airline sucks really. |

This is another defunct Airline in Nigeria. This is Fresh Air. It is directly owned by Captain Augustine Okon (one time Managing Director of ADC Airlines). It was when he had disagreement with the other directors of ADC Airlines, that he left them to establish Fresh Air (though he did not directly involve himself in day-to-day management. The cause of the disagreement is because of greed by the current ADC Airlines management.

This is Presidential Aircraft in Nigeria. It is a Boeing 727-2N6/Adv (RE) Super 27 Aircraft.
The funny aspect of this aircraft is that, it was bought by President Shehu Shagari and he never flew in the aircraft, before coup of 1985 removed him from office.
Aside, when the federal government ordered the ban of aircrafts above 22 years (if I am not wrong), the same aircraft was affected. People waited to see if this same aircraft will be flown, even with the existence of the law.

Corruption is the real problem in the aviation sector. As already stated, the operators of these airlines, did so with the intention of reaping quick profit and it backfired on many of them. |

GAR3TH: why not just sell the planes, instead of abandoning them in the airport fields. they could easly had made 30-50 million USD. or atleast recycle them in a junk yard SMH As if you know. I have never seen a wasteful country. Instead, they want to bury some of them. |

Enjoyment1: The above is the plight of Nigerian airlines history. The most pathetic is that of Okada Air. They had so much aircraft, to the extent that, many thought, it was the richest private airline in Africa. There are some other airlines that are not here like Slok Air (that belongs to Orji Uzor Kalu), Dasab Airlines, Space World etc. They are all history in Nigeria. I will soon upload their pictures. |

This is one of the aircrafts of the defunct Nigerian Airways. This was even before the logo was turned into an Eagle. The reason was because, it was thought that the Elephant logo was the reason why everything was slow in the airline. So, they changed it into and Eagle.

PapaBrowne: Yep!!
Delta State has Warri and would be completing Asaba in the first quarter of next year. Akwa Ibom now has one. Benin has one. Port Harcourt has 2. The international Airport and the Nigeria Airforce Airport(It was used during the temporary close down of the main airport in 2006/07). Cross River has the Calabar Airport and the Bebi AIRSTRIP(Not exactly a a big airport but it has regular scheduled flights).
Interesting thing is that Port Harcourt, Warri, Calabar and Benin airports are amongst the most viable in the country. They are actually amongst the top 7 airports in the country. Lagos, Abuja and Kano are the remaining 3. Yes, you are very correct here and I am not surprised that these airports are very viable in this country. |
Travel › Re: First Commercial Flight To Akwa-ibom From Abuja Airport (with Arik Air) by selingel: 10:16pm On Dec 12, 2009 |
The airline was very viable, until corruption sunk it, with gross inefficiency from those gays that got political appointment from government. A lot of them are enjoying their loots without anyone one raising their eyebrows.
What baffles me here most is that, OBJ really wanted the airline to die a natural death. Now, a couple of staff are struggling to get their entitlement from the same government which was very fast in shutting down the airline, but extremely slow in paying their fathers! that worked in that company. The annoying amongst them is that, the same Nigerian Airways staff in London, were paid 25 years entitlement and that was all for them. When it got to the turn of the same staff in Nigeria, OBJ only approved 5 years. Is that not madness from a man that was so drunk with power?. Rightnow, these aged ones are praying Yar'adua lives longer as he promised to pay them the remaining years. Can I say, OBJ was a devil from the pir of HELL?. |

Oboma1: The wing of the aircraft. This brand of aircraft, is really new. In fact, if Nigerian Airways was still in existence, Arik Air would have sent them out of circulation. It doesn't mean that the airline is perfect, but they are focused!. |
