The conflict stems from a dispute between the current Governor of Rivers State; His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS and the former Governor of the State; His Excellency Chief (Barr.) Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, GSSRS, who currently serves as the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The situation in Rivers State has escalated to a point where it poses a significant threat to peace, stability, and democratic governance in the region. The political tension and animosity between the two parties have led to a breakdown in governance, with adverse effects on the lives and well-being of the people of Rivers State.

They asked Fubara to withdraw his suit in court but they didn't withdraw theirs. As soon as he withdrew his, they asked the FHC judge to enter judgement in their favour against Fubara and the judge did.

SIM picked a wrong fight. Anyone conversant with the art of war should understand that Fubara would be completely uprooted to serve as a deterent to any other person among their clique who chooses to rebel or have a dissenting voice.

The Supreme has just announced the postponment of ruling on the Rivers Guber election appeal to next week Friday.

New date will now be 26th January, 2024. Parties have been notified and duly informed.

Flowing from the rulings delivered by the Apex Court on various guber appeals today, predict the possible outcome for Gov. Sim Fubara at the Supreme Court after Monday's hearing and subsequent ruling...!!

The Supreme Court of Nigeria in Abuja has fixed January 15, 2024, to hear the petition of Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State in the 2023 general elections, against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Part of the prayers of Tonye-Cole is that the court should sack Fubara as governor for failing to resign as Accountant General of the state after emerging as the candidate of PDP in the last election.

Tonye-Cole has also argued that Fubara was not qualified to contest the last election, let alone be declared the winner of the election.

On another ground, the APC governorship candidate is asking the court to cancel elections in some local government areas over allegations of irregularities or he should be declared the winner of the election.

Tonye-Cole‘s suit was dismissed at the tribunal for lacking merit in all the grounds but won some of the grounds at the Court of Appeal court before proceeding to the Supreme Court.

The illegality of the purported resignation of Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie as Rivers Speaker.

Let's first agree that by the pronouncement of the Rivers High Court which granted an order for him to be recognized as Speaker, his resignation letter may have violated Section 306 (6) of the 1999 Constitution as amended which clearly states as to the right authority such resignation letter should be addressed to.

The Chairman of INEC is not a recognized authority to receive such letter of resignation from the Speaker of the HOA

For the purpose of clarity Section 306 (6) States:
(6) The notice of resignation of the President of the Senate and of the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall in each case be addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly, and the notice of resignation of the Speaker of a House of Assembly shall be addressed to the Clerk of the House of Assembly of the State


The purported resignation of Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie as Rivers Speaker has raised concerns regarding its legality

According to Section 306 (6) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the resignation letter of the Speaker should be addressed to the Clerk of the House of Assembly of the State.

However, it appears that the resignation letter was wrongly addressed to the Chairman of INEC, which violates the constitutional requirement.

Therefore, the resignation letter may be deemed invalid due to its improper address and failure to comply with constitutional provisions.

Binding on him as per how, signing that document is illegal as it goes against the constitution, hence that document is not legal.

Were his hands and eyes tied while signing? He is an adult and so should take full responsibility for his actions and decisions.

The only honorable thing he can do now is stand by the letters of the agreement.

But then again it wasn't a legal document rather a presidential directive so even after signing it both parties are not bounded to it.

Its just a case of who throws the first punch again.

Except he can prove he signed it under duress, its binding on him...!!!

Concerns Regarding the Recent Peace Agreement

As a concerned and bona-fide citizen of Rivers State, I am writing to express my deep concerns and reservations regarding the recent peace agreement you signed, claiming it was done in the interest of peace in Rivers State.

While I understand the importance of pursuing peace, it is essential to critically evaluate the decisions and actions taken to achieve this goal.

First and foremost, I must express my disappointment in the lack of comprehensive measures in the agreement or rather ‘directive’ to address the root cause of the disputes.

Signing an agreement that does not adequately tackle or resolve the underlying issues is akin to applying a temporary bandage without addressing the wound itself. It is imperative that we go beyond superficial solutions and delve into the heart of the matter to ensure lasting peace.

@GovSimFubara, peace cannot be achieved through superficial agreements alone. True peace requires addressing underlying socio-economic imbalance, ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law. Without a comprehensive approach that tackles the fundamental issues, any agreement or directive signed in the name of peace runs the risk of being nothing more than a symbolic gesture.

I urge you to reconsider your approach to achieving peace in Rivers State. It is imperative that we prioritize a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of conflicts.
I believe in the potential of Rivers State to overcome its challenges and thrive as a beacon of peace and progress.

Let us not settle for temporary solutions but instead strive for a future where every Rivers man or woman, boy or girl can live with their shoulders held high and their rights protected.

Following mass resignation of members of the Rivers State Executive Council, we advised Gov. Fubara before this time to sack all his Commissioners and return only those trusted to heart but he ignored us.

Gov SIM was too hasty in demolishing the Assembly Complex. The 27 or so lawmakers had already shot themselves on the foot thereby losing every right to enter the complex or perform any legislative duty. That is the end of the road for them.

Their letter of resignation or defection had to be addressed to their reapective PDP ward Chairmen and then State and National. The process of their defection was faulty and might be declared null and void in court. But that would spare lost of their seats in the HOA

Concerns Regarding the Dissolution of Rivers State APC Executives

Dear Members of the National Working Committee of our great Party; APC,

I am writing to express my deep concerns and disappointment regarding the recent decision to dissolve the Rivers State Executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As the Governorship flagbearer of the APC in the last general election in Rivers State, I am deeply invested in the success and growth of our party. However, the dissolution of the Rivers State Executives raises serious questions about the principles of fairness, transparency, and democratic decision-making within our party.





Moreover, the appointment of a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Rivers State has left many of us feeling excluded and disregarded. This decision undermines the democratic process and erodes the trust and confidence of party members in the state.
