Religion / Re: As A Christian Is It Possible To Practice First Fruit In This Harsh Economy by senetee(m): 1:32pm On Jan 14 |
Hmmn, religion and faith are complex and personal subjects, so if one believes that the First Fruit practice is the way to go, as long as you are doing no one any harm, do go ahead. However, I have a big issue with colleagues who do give their whole January salary to their churches/pastors only to start disturbing the rest of us 'lesser Christians' who do not practice this, for raises and loans; sometimes these First fruiters even fight us for being stingy and insensitive, really?? Please if you know you are going to engage in this, please have some fund set aside to practice this otherwise tell yourself, you cannot afford it, full stop! 1 Like 1 Share |
Career / Re: Companies That Request For Payslip Before Employment by senetee(m): 3:05pm On Dec 14, 2023 |
What is the purpose of the payslip request? Is it to 'price down' the applicant or to ascertain that the applicant was employed in the role disclosed? I know a case where an applicant provided the requested payslips but sensitive information (salary redacted) redacted as this would have been in breach of the Non Disclosure Agreement signed with the former company. The candidate was successful with the application. I think sharing bank statements is too much information to give. 3 Likes 1 Share |
Car Talk / Re: WOW 2015 Toyota Yaris Has A 145 Degree Turn Radius! by senetee(m): 5:23pm On Feb 09, 2016 |
erumena: I concur with this. I knew this was going to happen to my year 2000 Honda accord after running into a massive crater. The next day, I heard a strange noise while turning the steering wheel and told my lazy mechanic about the impending tyre pull-out but he did a lazy job and did not change the bad parts. Car was returned to me and it seemed okay. The following morning, the noise came back and it eventually pulled out after less than a kilometer drive. I felt like beating up the guy but after heavy pleading, I allowed him to do the job properly. Drivers will always get a hint that all is not well with the wheels but I guess people just like to stretch their vehicles to the extreme before changing failing parts. One must always pay attention to the details such as abnormal sounds and steering feedback regularly. By the way I have seen a couple of Toyota 4runners (3rd Generation) and Sequoias (1st Generation) with tyre pull-outs too. 1 Like |

Autos / Re: 20 Most Problematic Vehicles! by senetee(m): 5:45pm On Apr 06, 2010 |
I have heard complaints about squeaky or shaky brakes of the Accord '08. However, someone in my family drove one and I rode in it on the way to the east once. The brakes when applied hard seemed to rattle the floorboard of the passenger area but I just ascribed it to the way the driver was handling the car and ABS's actions(could be wrong), trying to avoid pot holes while speeding. However, can't say more than that because the car has not thrown up any major issues as the owner drives it with so much care so perhaps a little more care could make the difference. That said, all cars have their issues, one just has to learn those issues and learn to live with them - more or less you have to love a car in order not to feel frustrated with its issues. |
Career / Re: The Reality Of Overqualification - Are People Getting Overqualified? by senetee(m): 6:09pm On Apr 04, 2010 |
@Poster, I have pondered on this too several times especially when I think of the amount nigerians spend on acquiring foreign degrees especially post-graduate ones. From another view though, I have a degree in economics but have always functioned in the IT sphere as a trainer, dba, plsql scripter etc but when the there was an opening for a product manager, all eyes fell on me because of some of the latent skills(i.e apart from the technical ones) I possessed. Put another way, an overqualified person now may well become an underqualified person in the next couple of years - too much future uncertainty. Just my 2 cents |
Music/Radio / Re: I Am Ashamed Of Naija Retarded Music by senetee(m): 7:19pm On Apr 03, 2010 |
master2: I think these posts are close to my views about today's music. Music serves different purposes. I would still step to Terry G's 'testing microphone' at a party(without attempting to decipher what the heck that brother is talking about- just enjoying his beats), listen to Sade's 'sweetest taboo' when I need some soothing sounds or some of Lagbaja's works like 'Did I?' or Sam Cooke's 'Change is gonna come'when I want to appreciate vocal abilities with some thoughts on getting out of seemingly hopeless situations. Methinks, nigerian music is not bad - Dare Art Alade, Banky W, Asha, Sound Sultan, Jeremiah Gyang, Mode 9, even Style Plus, MI and his crew, P Square, are doing their things in non - offensive and non - irritating ways. The industry as a whole still gets my thumbs up especially when one considers the unfriendly and chaotic environment the artistes have to thrive in. |
Career / Re: Is An MBA Prestigious In Nigeria? by senetee(m): 10:40pm On Jan 14, 2010 |
rookie: Hmmn, so going for the two year full-time MBA may not be a wise decision afterall. I guess people really have to do their research before choosing what school to attend but c'mon the programme should still have some clout at least in the West-African region. It would be nice to meet some graduates of the programme and get their feedback on the programme's content and life afterwards. Any volunteers? I still regard the institution highly though. |
Religion / Re: Are Pastors Thieves Without Guns? by senetee(m): 11:00pm On Jan 13, 2010 |
@pstbolanta Hmmn, First of all, may the good Lord direct you towards getting another source of income that would sustain you as soon as possible. May the good Lord not also lead you to any untrue pastors who are just out to rip people off their hard earned cash while they run around looking smashing and dazzling while their followers remain dazed and hope-clinging. but on the flip side, LOL |
Politics / Re: Work Begins On $3bn Lagos Light Rail by senetee(m): 9:14pm On Dec 29, 2009 |
Truth is those BRT buses are still not enough. Have you been to a BRT bus terminal between the hours of 5 pm to 7 pm, especially the one at CMS? You would behold a very long queue which indicates that the demand is there but the supply does not match it at the moment. It is still nice to know that there is a comfortable alternative to squeezing into a rickety bus (which on bad day could just pack up on 3rd Mainland bridge)from obalende to the Mainland. Also, Lagos has hydra headed problems which cannot be fixed in one administration. I salute the former administration and this current one in Lagos state for providing this alternative. I pray and believe, they can improve on what has been done. The more channels of transportation, the lesser the pressure on just one which is currently roads. I welcome it. |

@Sagamite And when you decide to take food to work, even just rice and stew, there would be one ediot saying "Ewww, what is that smell?" Before they realise it is your food, then "What is that?". LOL, I feel you absolutely on this man. And to think of what drove one to this land and trace parts of its roots to the contrbution of leaders during the IBB years, its really hard to feel any empathy for IBB and his family. |

Romance / Re: What Do You Think About Being A House Wife ? by senetee(m): 7:15pm On May 01, 2008 |
Not everyone can afford to just rely on one person for income. Dont know why it's always the "mother/wife" that has to give up somethingb. In the midst of leaving ehr job wityh the excuse of raising children and the husband dies or loses the job, what happens? What if she can't get that old job back? What happens then? The children starve? what? Oh yes, it is very true that several couples cannot depend on one person's salary and not all couples have a good alternative financial plan if death occurs. It is also true that the nigerian extended family system can be very helpful in situations like this but there are exceptions and does not always play out well in the future. For a couple to take the home maker route, there has to be good financial planning, jobskill acquisiton strategies and so is necessarily not a stupid idea. In all situations there are always the what-ifs? I guess its a matter of opportunity cost i.e what values are deemed most important by couples and extended family. And if extended family is really family, i suppose they would come around when the chips go down. Yes, there are always risks, life itself is a risk. I'm out. Its 12 am here |
Romance / Re: What Do You Think About Being A House Wife ? by senetee(m): 6:34pm On May 01, 2008 |
@D-reloaded Nope, women can study whatever they like and enjoy doingbe it biohemistry, architecture, engineering, whatever. I have friends who had full time jobs when they were single, resigned when they started having kids and picked up jobs after some years of parenting. So if a system is flexible, they can always resume at something related to what they enjoy doing. Ah an is studying business administration bull**** now? As long as managing a business is a needed skill, it certainly does not sound like a useless study path. |
Romance / Re: What Do You Think About Being A House Wife ? by senetee(m): 6:17pm On May 01, 2008 |
Wow, its obvious from this thread that the contemporary woman prefers to work for her money, good for me. It only shows that i can plan towards getting that yatch instead her dubai trips and gold apparels . Seriously, its good for the woman's self esteem but what is the effect of both parents running after money at the expense of family life? I know couples who have never attended their kids school functions before; some kids really need plenty of support from their parents while growing up. In a place like Lagos where it is possible to find husband and wife out of the house by 5.30, only, to come back after 7 pm fagged out reduces parent-children communication. On weekends, church, friends and social outings take up parents time so where is the quality family time? Delegating kids guidance and monitoring to third-parties like house helps, drivers, extended family members may not necessarily be the best with all these house help stories. I think the term house wife should be changed to home - maker as it associated with gossiping, low IQ, begging, nagging etc). Note it takes an intelligent woman to make a happy and succesful home. Not every so called house wife is into all these stereotype activities because if she is really into parenting, she would not even have time for all that crap. Anyways, I believe in a societal system which allows outsourced jobs which allows women to start 9 - 5 jobs when they anticipate more idle time as they are educated and skilled plus with growing internet penetration, what stops a woman from working from home e.g writing articles, research, mentorship etc. My 2 cents |
Car Talk / Re: Motor Accidents You've Watched Or Experienced? by senetee(m): 4:11pm On Apr 23, 2008 |
Aah, accidents, well been in a few vehicular accidents but this one involving an okada comes to mind. It was in the slopy area of Akobo, Ibadan a few years ago. I boarded this vespa(scooter) on my way to pal's house. The guy sped so fast but naively i thought the guy was in control of his machine. We get on my pal's untarred close that had a wall at the end of the street and the guy starts to speed up again. Before i could caution the rider, the bike goes straight into a bushy plot. We hit a rock which sends both of us flying in the air. Luckily, i landed on my side and rolled for a while. I got up with no serious injury but my rider suffered an injured lip and bled profusely. On inquiry, the rider said both accelerator pedal and brakes went dead and with engine speed quite high(a scooter uses a floor pedal if u remember), directing the bike into the shrubs was the only the way to stop it else na brick wall we for smash into. I was perplexed but thank God now as I laugh at the whole episode. |
