I am not talking about achievement because it wasnt atheism that made Seun to start nairaland and get to where he is now. He wasnt even an atheist when he started this nairaland business. I had been an atheist for years when I started Nairaland. Please stop lying for Jesus. |

This is a heartwarming story. However, I think Mr Osaghae should highlight the role that the baby's mother and the German hospital he was fortunate to have access to, played in his daughter's survival. Otherwise, some unfortunate lady reading this will think she can deliver a 3.5 month premature baby in a typical Nigerian hospital, pray on the baby, and expect everything to be alright. Every time we give glory to God instead of highlighting the actual reasons why good things happened to us, we miss an opportunity to teach others the actual things they need to do to make the same good things happen to them. This is one of the things holding back our potentially great nation in my view. |

Dariye: money ritual isn't real? What about those people that are being caught with human body parts, what do you think is the use of those parts... Eat dinner with it? The criminals caught with the body parts are suppliers. They supply those parts to people who stupidly believe that they can be used in rituals to make money. The belief in the power of money rituals creates the demand for body parts, despite the fact that the belief is completely false. |

IDnoble1: when there is no spiritual power as you claimed, then what makes money comes overnight to the people who do money rituals? Money doesn't come overnight to anybody as a result of rituals. Except in Yoruba, Igbo, and Religious movies, which we unwisely believe to be real. People who consult ritualists are duped by the ritualists, basically, but they can't report the ritualists without incriminating themselves. |

joseph1832: Not always true. Some atheist husbands don't prevent their wives from going to church, they rather encourage it. I have atheist friends whose wives go to church with their kids. That's why I said he will try to prevent the wife from forcing the children to go to church. Sometimes you try and you don't succeed. Sveen: And erm, atheist are not really much in our society, how do you intend to find one? The answer is quite obvious, isn't it? |

2dugged: I would like to point out that this is my personal opinion, I know the bible admonishes us to not be equally yoked with unbelievers, but looking at the pros and cons, it will be more advantageous as a woman to marry an atheist than to marry from another faith considering that doctrines of religions are anti-women and tend to portray the woman as inferior An atheist husband would try to prevent you from forcing your children to go to church, and wouldn't go with you. How do you feel about that? |

joseph1832: It's usually not real, until it happens to you. Why do spiritual powers only manifest in the midst of uneducated and superstitious people? Because illiterates are easily fooled. Someone who doesn't like this woman wanted to make her suffer, and all he had to do was accuse her of having imaginary spiritual powers. In a sane society, the stupid boys who beat her would be ashamed to show their faces in any photo. And if they did, they would be arrested and charged to court for assault. I'd like to urge feminist NGOs to step in and help this woman. And if possible, to help get those boys arrested. |

Mimidiva: I have seen an old woman confessed of destroying her mate's son with cobwebs surrounding his life, which was true cos the guy was really useless because he's the first son, demonic people uses anything to destroy, even to wall gecko, may they never find us. This happened in Edo. If you are attacked by a mob of crazy people who believe you are a witch, and after beating you up, they threaten to burn you alive if you don't confess that you are a witch, won't you confess? That's why, in civilized countries, confessions obtained via torture aren't accepted in court. |

joseph1832: Thus, man is selfish my nature's design as no man will ever love his neighbour like he loves himself. It's almost impossible. Loving your neighbour as yourself is impossible with or without religion. It's also undesirable. Put yourself first, but be considerate of others too. AlphaDex: The motive behind charity is key. I think the effect of charity is key. If you were starving and I gave you food with no strings attached, you wouldn't care about my motive. Men can never be reconciled to a uniform code of behaviour without a higher moral authority. Having a uniform code of behaviour is not ideal. It's better for different societies to try different things in order to find out what works better. |

AlphaDex: Without religious codes, man's motive becomes selfish What? That's not true. Many of the world's richest individuals, who don't follow any religious codes, have pledged their entire wealth to charity. and his theories are only as good or worse than another man's. Theories can be tested. The ones that stand up to scrutiny should be adopted. That's how science works. That's how modern courts work. Only religious ethics puts man in a place of objective and selfless action,eg; "love your neighbour as yourself" Loving your neighbour as yourself is a bad idea. You should love yourself most, followed by your family & friends, then all other human beings. |

He expects me to advice him on what to do since I am living in Lagos. please what should this guy do? one more appeal, we need informed answers. He is tired of hearing 'superstition' Thank you in advance for your contributions. Do You Suddenly Start Praying Whenever You Come In Contact With Cobwebs?nenergy: Some years ago I heard a man preach that cobwebs are used by dark forces to delay or stagnate a man’s progress. Ever since then, I find myself saying words of prayers whenever I come on contact with cobwebs, especially if I have just passed there only seconds earlier. Yesterday, a woman came in contact with cobwebs while boarding a commercial bus and prayed out loud. i.e “Blood of Jesus; I cover myself with the blood”. I am a Christian and also believe in logical explanation of phenomenon. But sometimes these occurrences can be very creepy-only in Africa. |

Oluwalosheleyi: ... how do you explain the following: -Long thick cobwebs in the middle of roads where there is no visible anchor to hold the cobwebs. Did this actually happen to you or is it just a story you were told? If this really happened, the cobwebs were blown onto the road by the wind. Passing by a spot without cobwebs only to return to that spot a minute later to be engulfed in cobwebs. If this actually happened to you, you must have narrowly missed the cobwebs when you were passing by the first time. Also, you didn't see them because cobwebs are barely visible against bright backgrounds, e.g. light-coloured walls and the sky. There's nothing demonic about this. Religion creates lots of imaginary problems and then 'generously' offers to solve them for us at a dear price. Please be smart and don't fall for it! |
