Boxers are not terribly bright, so saying the pig is smarter than them isn't saying much. Some rats are smarter than boxers. Just kidding! |

If your current dog is stolen, you should buy an aggressive adult dog and let's see how they will steal it while fighting for their lives. |

Where can I buy very small piglets (less than 4kg) regularly to use for feeding a dog? About how much would they cost (per kg)? Tnx! |
jeff1607: My first GSD was stolen by dose omonile when I newly moved. When they come asking for levies and other stuff my pup wud just bark n play with them and some of them who were hunters would say in yoruba "this dog would be good in d bush" didn't really knew what it meant until I travelled and when I came back only to find out she was stolen.even till now it still hurts,I just wish my current pup can grow quickly so she won't be easily stolen. There are so many things wrong with your story. For example, who did you leave your dog with when it was stolen? What kind of insecure compound do you have that allows people to just stroll in and steal your dog? Tell us more about where you live, for better advice. |
No pictures of the parents? |
oluomoadebayo: I don't recommend chaining dogs at all and it could affect the temperament of the dog. What's bad about chaining a dog? I actually believe that every dog should have a collar and a chain and they should be used regularly. The chain makes it easy to keep your dog from going where you don't want it to go. When I'm taking my dog out in my car, I always chain him to the back seat so he can't disturb me while I'm driving or jump out to bite someone who's agitating him. He doesn't seem to mind being chained in the car at all because he likes to go out. When I wanted to train my dog to lie down, I had to chain him down to get him to stop moving around. The collar makes it easy for you to control your dog with or without a chain. For example, when I need to take some food from my dog, I can grab his collar to prevent him from snapping at my delicate fingers. When I need to move him against his will, I can just grab his collar and pull! Many situations that have caused problems between dogs and their human parents would have been avoided if the dogs were kept under control. |
He looks handsome. Pls post pictures of the mother and father. |
I feed my dog raw too. Yesterday he ate a large chicken lap (N200) in the morning and in the evening he ate a Mackerel Fish (250). My main reason for feeding raw is that the dog came to me with yellow teeth and bad breath. Raw feeding makes his teeth white and his breath quite fresh. Apart from that, raw food keeps the dog occupied because it takes a lot of time and effort to crush the bones and tear the meat. People say raw feeding results in better stools that don't smell. I've found that the quality of my dog's stool depends on what kind of raw food I feed him. If I feed him chicken lap, the stool is light yellow and turns white and crumbles almost immediately. But if I feed him fish, then the stool is black or dark brown, but firm. Our dogs at home eat rice with boiled herring or boiled chicken and their stool is also yellow and turns white. So I don't think good stools depend on whether the food is raw or not; it depends on digestibility & calcium content. Shawa fish (herring) is my dog's favourite fish, and also the cheapest source of protein in Nigeria. However, I have learnt that it contains an enzyme called Thiaminase that destroys Vitamin B1. If raw Shawa fish is the primary food source, the dog will develop symptoms of vitamin B1 deficiency in a few months. To prevent that, one can either cook the fish - which destroys other vitamins - or give the dog a vitamin B1 supplement. Many alternatives to Shawa fish also contain Thiaminase. Original Titus (Atlantic Mackerel) does not. But it's expensive. |
Barking when chained is quite normal for a young GSD. GSDs don't like sitting around doing nothing. Give the dog something to occupy herself with. I like to give my dog raw chicken laps to challenge him. Also, try to play with your dog to get her tired before chaining her. Also, get her something to play with e.g. a lawn tennis ball. Many dogs are crazy for tennis balls, including my 2 / 3 year old dog. Attacking on command is a pretty useless behaviour to teach a dog unless you work for the police and want to use the dog to catch criminals. Your dog is too young for that kind of training, anyway. You can try playing tug with your dog to build her prey drive for such training. What you really need from a dog is to be alerted when anyone tries to break into your compound and to deter unarmed criminals e.g.burglers. |
