face mask doesn't stop corona from spreading.....all counties that relaxed their lockdown, even when social distancing and wearing of face masks were observed ,yet corona cases increased
Name 3 of those countries so that we can discuss the reasons why their cases increased and whether or not it was worth it to relax their lockdowns.

KingKingKing:
You are damn funny, Did you just say use facemasks? Don't you go out on the streets to see how non compliant Lagosians are? A lot of people do not value their lives thereby putting the lives of those who value their lives at risk!
Enforcing face-masks is easy. When people leave the house, there are places they want to go. Markets, stores, offices, motor-parks, public transport, banks, atm kiosks, etc. Govt can simply instruct the people running those places to deny access to people not wearing face-masks.

The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected!
That's lazy governance. If some people are not compliant with the rules, advice them, assist them, and arrest them if they still don't cooperate. Under no circumstance should a government punish the innocent along with the guilty. People following precautions must be allowed to work.
PoliticsRe: COVID-19: Lagos Lockdown Online Vote by Seun(mod): 11:13pm On May 13, 2020
Alexk2:
I disagree with you on this Seun. It was so premature in the first place to ease the lockdown when we did considering these three important factors;
1. We were so far behind in the area of testing so much so that community transmission broke forth before we could manage the foreign import cases. up till now, we are still lagging before compared to where we should be by now. Just imagine how many covid 19 virus carriers are walking in the streets of Lagos and sharing it since last week Monday!

2. Due to our failure above, the number of cases will keep increasing for now; we're still far from reaching the "peak" and the only logical option for now is a total lockdown while the govt must as a matter of urgency work on testing rates, isolation and management of Victims; this isn't about just Lagos state but the whole country.

3. Locking down FCT, Lagos and Ogun state only is a disaster in it's own from the start.....even if we succeed in these three places after an effective lockdown, people will carry the virus back to Lagos and Abuja thereafter. BTW, the borders are as porus as ever even during lock down.....yes I know someone will remind me of Kogi and cross-river state but it's only a typical Ostrich story who dip her head inside the ground claiming she's fine so far she's unaware of what's going on around her...It is better we face the reality now or we all face the consequences later; the choice is ours.
It is a choice between life/health and wealth/economy. Only the living talks about money bro.
Here's the problem. Everything that needs to be done to fight the virus costs money. Test-kits, laboratories, PCR machines, and reagents cost money. Isolation centers cost money to build and to run. Qualified health experts to run the facilities and the PPE to protect them cost a lot of money. Drugs and equipment to treat the sick cost money. ICU beds, ventilators, oxygen, etc. As we have more active cases, the cost will grow. Surveillance of every community in Nigeria so that outbreaks can be detected early and squashed through aggressive testing and contact tracing costs money. Giving poor, jobless people food so that they won't revolt costs money. And the source of all this money is the economy.

If we let the economy crash, we won't be able to afford those things, and the deaths we're trying to avoid will still happen due to lack of funds.
PoliticsRe: COVID-19: Lagos Lockdown Online Vote by Seun(mod):
Salary earners who have not lost their jobs yet, single people who work online, essential workers, etc, will vote yes. Most others would vote no.

A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways.

We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus?

Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy.

The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy.

It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. We must get people back to work, and we must keep them safe.

HealthRe: Outrage As Frontline Health Staff Sent On Duty Without PPE by Seun(mod):
This is why I am against the state by state approach to tackling this crisis. The PTF and NCDC and president should make the rules about how things should be done at the national level, and every state must follow the rules. If some states handle the situation seriously, and other states are not serious, the serious states will have to remain under restrictions indefinitely to avoid being affected by people from the unserious states.

HealthRe: Covid-19: NCDC's Questionable Mission in Kogi by Seun(mod): 6:23pm On May 12, 2020
It is highly unlikely that Kogi state is free of COVID-19. The NCDC is absolutely right that the virus is everywhere. After what we have seen in Kano, Jigawa and, frankly, the entire world, the position of the Kogi State government cannot be taken seriously.

However, I empathize with this part of what the OP said:
He left the impression of certainty that the virus would reach every nook and cranny of the country. I paused and asked myself: who is NCDC working for? Are they working to curtail the virus or spread it? If indeed they're working to arrest the spread of covid-19 in the country, why was the NCDC DG so sure that it would get to every state?
I am not a fan of the NCDC’s defeatist attitude either. Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought they were trying to wipe out the virus from the country by isolating all active cases, hence the drastic measures. Lately it seems that the NCDC’s goal is just to observe and inform us about the progress of the virus.

HealthRe: Opinion: Mandatory Vaccination For COVID-19 Is Flawed by Seun(mod): 9:15am On May 10, 2020
I don’t think he was talking about making vaccinations mandatory. He was talking about making the vaccine available to everybody. The truth is that, even when the vaccines become available, it will be difficult for people in poor countries to get vaccinated. Just as there is a shortage of PPE and test kits right now making it hard for poor countries (and rich countries with bad leaders) to protect their people, there will be a shortage of Coronavirus vaccines for a long time, and rich countries will get them first. The WHO might intervene to get health workers in poor countries vaccinated early but the rest of us will remain unprotected for a long while. People who afraid of mandatory vaccination will have nothing to worry about for a very long time, sadly.

The key to vaccine effectiveness is to get a large majority of people vaccinated. 60% and above, depending on the disease. If enough people volunteer to be vaccinated then there will be no need to make it mandatory. If not, then it must be mandatory. But we won’t have enough vaccines for everyone for a very long time.

We don't have the tools to enforce it. Our force men are poorly trained, and will end up killing people. A report shows the border security are aiding interstate movement after collecting bribe. We ate in trouble.
The enforcement of face-masks is simple. Entry into banks, markets, motorparks, government offices and other places will be denied to those not wearing face-masks. As for the ban on inter-state travel I am opposed to it. The goal is to wipe out the virus, not to limit it to a particular location. The number of people infected by someone carrying the virus is the same regardless of which state he is in. We need a national approach to it.

The question is are Nigerians ready to comply with the social distancing rule? you and i know that most Nigerians have this i don't care attitude
Are they ready to comply with another lockdown? If the government can enforce another lockdown, then they can surely enforce social distancing rules. After Funke Akindele was charged to court we've not heard about any other celebrity throwing a party during this crisis. Government 101.
PoliticsRe: Coronavirus: Sanwo-Olu Mulls Another Lockdown by Seun(mod):
If Lagosians are not following the rules, it's because you are not enforcing them. There's nowhere in the world where enforcement isn't needed. If you truly believed that everyone would comply with the directive to wear unbreathable ankara masks in this hot weather without any enforcement ... that's not a good sign.

do your maths well. If they share $311m to 200m Nigerians every Nigeria will get roughly N560 only. Wetin 560 fit do u?
560 in every pocket will actually make a difference to many people. The main issue is that the cost of distributing the money might be too high.
HealthRe: 195 New COVID-19 Cases, 5 Deaths, & 53 Discharged On May 6 by Seun(mod):
I wish we could see the number of tests conducted on each day broken down by state so we can actually interpret these figures.

If a state is testing more people, a large number of new cases is not so alarming. If a state tests almost nobody, a low number is not reassuring.

I can't believe it made sense to anyone. I was laughing when I wrote it. The ankara mask mainly prevents people wearing it from spreading it to others by coughing, sneezing, shouting, singing, talking or breathing. You can protect your eyes by wearing glasses, goggles or shades.
