I appreciate these suggestion. Thank you so much! |
martineverest:Name 3 of those countries so that we can discuss the reasons why their cases increased and whether or not it was worth it to relax their lockdowns. |
KingKingKing:Enforcing face-masks is easy. When people leave the house, there are places they want to go. Markets, stores, offices, motor-parks, public transport, banks, atm kiosks, etc. Govt can simply instruct the people running those places to deny access to people not wearing face-masks. The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected! That's lazy governance. If some people are not compliant with the rules, advice them, assist them, and arrest them if they still don't cooperate. Under no circumstance should a government punish the innocent along with the guilty. People following precautions must be allowed to work. |
Alexk2:Here's the problem. Everything that needs to be done to fight the virus costs money. Test-kits, laboratories, PCR machines, and reagents cost money. Isolation centers cost money to build and to run. Qualified health experts to run the facilities and the PPE to protect them cost a lot of money. Drugs and equipment to treat the sick cost money. ICU beds, ventilators, oxygen, etc. As we have more active cases, the cost will grow. Surveillance of every community in Nigeria so that outbreaks can be detected early and squashed through aggressive testing and contact tracing costs money. Giving poor, jobless people food so that they won't revolt costs money. And the source of all this money is the economy. If we let the economy crash, we won't be able to afford those things, and the deaths we're trying to avoid will still happen due to lack of funds. |
Salary earners who have not lost their jobs yet, single people who work online, essential workers, etc, will vote yes. Most others would vote no. A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways. We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus? Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy. The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy. It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. We must get people back to work, and we must keep them safe. |
Is it a loan or a gift? |
This is why I am against the state by state approach to tackling this crisis. The PTF and NCDC and president should make the rules about how things should be done at the national level, and every state must follow the rules. If some states handle the situation seriously, and other states are not serious, the serious states will have to remain under restrictions indefinitely to avoid being affected by people from the unserious states. |
His isolation center is very nice. I wish all infected Nigerians would be isolated in centers that look like this. Good luck to the man and his wife. |
Lorazepam:Thanks. Where did you see this, so I can check it next time? |
We need to know the number of tests conducted during the day to make sense of this. |
This is the way. |
sanny1:You can still see if it’s a users birthday on her profile. |
It is highly unlikely that Kogi state is free of COVID-19. The NCDC is absolutely right that the virus is everywhere. After what we have seen in Kano, Jigawa and, frankly, the entire world, the position of the Kogi State government cannot be taken seriously. However, I empathize with this part of what the OP said: He left the impression of certainty that the virus would reach every nook and cranny of the country. I paused and asked myself: who is NCDC working for? Are they working to curtail the virus or spread it? If indeed they're working to arrest the spread of covid-19 in the country, why was the NCDC DG so sure that it would get to every state?I am not a fan of the NCDC’s defeatist attitude either. Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought they were trying to wipe out the virus from the country by isolating all active cases, hence the drastic measures. Lately it seems that the NCDC’s goal is just to observe and inform us about the progress of the virus. |
When is the next election? ![]() |
Seems nice. |
I don’t think he was talking about making vaccinations mandatory. He was talking about making the vaccine available to everybody. The truth is that, even when the vaccines become available, it will be difficult for people in poor countries to get vaccinated. Just as there is a shortage of PPE and test kits right now making it hard for poor countries (and rich countries with bad leaders) to protect their people, there will be a shortage of Coronavirus vaccines for a long time, and rich countries will get them first. The WHO might intervene to get health workers in poor countries vaccinated early but the rest of us will remain unprotected for a long while. People who afraid of mandatory vaccination will have nothing to worry about for a very long time, sadly. The key to vaccine effectiveness is to get a large majority of people vaccinated. 60% and above, depending on the disease. If enough people volunteer to be vaccinated then there will be no need to make it mandatory. If not, then it must be mandatory. But we won’t have enough vaccines for everyone for a very long time. |
Omoluabi16:The enforcement of face-masks is simple. Entry into banks, markets, motorparks, government offices and other places will be denied to those not wearing face-masks. As for the ban on inter-state travel I am opposed to it. The goal is to wipe out the virus, not to limit it to a particular location. The number of people infected by someone carrying the virus is the same regardless of which state he is in. We need a national approach to it. |
Jakemedg:Are they ready to comply with another lockdown? If the government can enforce another lockdown, then they can surely enforce social distancing rules. After Funke Akindele was charged to court we've not heard about any other celebrity throwing a party during this crisis. Government 101. |
If Lagosians are not following the rules, it's because you are not enforcing them. There's nowhere in the world where enforcement isn't needed. If you truly believed that everyone would comply with the directive to wear unbreathable ankara masks in this hot weather without any enforcement ... that's not a good sign. |
Medical researchers have reported that the novel Coronavirus causes blood clots in many patients. Blood clots in the brain lead to strokes. ![]() |
Can you imagine how many people must have the disease for there to be 100 known deaths? |
itsRhamzy:any error message? |
I really think I should have a say here ![]() |
Why has no journalist asked them for the reason why these people keep running away? It’s very important. |
tetralogyfallot:560 in every pocket will actually make a difference to many people. The main issue is that the cost of distributing the money might be too high. |
I wish we could see the number of tests conducted on each day broken down by state so we can actually interpret these figures. If a state is testing more people, a large number of new cases is not so alarming. If a state tests almost nobody, a low number is not reassuring. |
enochogaga:Please tell us. Knowledge is power and it can save lives. To make a better country, we all have to get involved. |
willy2000:I guess we can enable larger uploads. |
Danielhouston:what's the size of the image you are trying to upload? |
Ajibade123:you just did. |
woke4eva:I can't believe it made sense to anyone. I was laughing when I wrote it. The ankara mask mainly prevents people wearing it from spreading it to others by coughing, sneezing, shouting, singing, talking or breathing. You can protect your eyes by wearing glasses, goggles or shades. |
