Concerning the controversy about the origin of COVID-19; whether it was made in a lab or evolved naturally I believe that the virus could've been man-made. One of the ways of making a vaccine is to grow a human virus in a non-human host such as a chicken egg for several generations. So you grow the virus in one egg, extract it, transfer some of it to another egg, and so on. Over many generations, the virus can mutate into a form that is better at growing in a chicken egg but grows poorly in a human host. This form can be injected into people as a vaccine. Because it grows so poorly in humans, it doesn't cause sickness, but causes the immune system to make antibodies. So what if you take a nasty coronavirus from a bat and grow it in a succession of human embryos or other human tissue? You might end up with a novel coronavirus that is extremely good at infecting and growing inside humans. There is insufficient evidence to say that this definitely happened, but there is insufficient evidence to say that this definitely didn't happen. The media is rushing to the conclusion that "science shows that it could not have happened" because they dislike Donald Trump, but I'm yet to hear a scientific argument that points to this conclusion. Sometimes the correct answer is we don't know. Scientists are not oracles and their personal opinions are not the same as scientific facts. |
The "facts" of the matter (according to Pastor Chris) are as follows: 1) The lockdown was not science. So he was right all the time. 2) Everything we knew became like we never went to school. (clearly) 3) The lockdown didn't save lives; it put lives at risk. But it is good for politicians. 4) The face-masks are embarrassing to science. Real science. 5) The scientific masks are not useful in public. They are used in clean environments. 6) The WHO and CDC said the mask will not work. 7) If we go by science you should not wear the mask. 8} Wearing of the mask is not science. It's politics. 9) Scientifically, the face-mask is dangerous to your health. 10) This is the truth. ![]() |

Wow, that’s a lot of cases. Hope they were tested properly. |

Looking into this.... |
KnightsTemplar:We should not have to wait for every governor to figure out the right thing to do. Let the governors put their heads together with the PTF and come up with good generalized rules that can be applied in every state. If a rule cannot be applied in every state, it is not a very good rule. We are not that different from each other and the virus we are fighting is the same, so why should the rules be different? It is not right. |
I don’t like these state by state rules. The Coronavirus is the same in every state of every country. Once best practices have been identified, they should be implemented everywhere so that the virus will have nowhere to hide. When they focused on Lagos and Abuja it went to Kano. Now they are focused on Kano it will get worse somewhere else. We ought to figure out the best practices at the national level by looking at countries like South Korea and then implement them uniformly in every state. The rationale for different rules in every state is to be more strict and aggressive in states that have more problems and more relaxed in states that don’t have problems. But we have seen how a state that seems to have everything under control can become a horror show in just a few days. So let’s just assume that the Coronavirus is everywhere, which it is, and act accordingly. Having zero confirmed cases is not an excuse to relax, and having hundreds of confirmed cases is no reason to go crazy with unsustainable rules. |

We need a national strategy for managing the disease. Interstate Movement restrictions are not the answer. We have to monitor every major city or town in Nigeria and respond rapidly to test, isolate and treat people before they spread it further. This is not a Lagos problem, Abuja problem, or Kano problem. It’s a global problem which calls for a global strategy, but for political reasons the best we can do is to treat it as a national problem with a national solution. The idea that you can protect your state by blocking your border when people are dying in the next state is preposterous. It we are not monitoring all areas of the country simultaneously, the places we are not monitoring will become the next epicenters of the disease. The states claiming no confirmed cases today could be the next Kano in the next two weeks. Coronavirus does not respect our arbitrary geographical boundaries. We have to tackle it with a coherent and uniform national strategy. |
mzhazel:In reality, there are very few people who stop following other safety measures after they start wearing face-masks. If you see someone with a face-mask ignoring other safety measures, I can assure you that the person was not following the other safety measures before he/she started to wear the mask. So it is not the face-mask that makes people careless. It is very important to put face-masks on careless people so that the rest of us will be protected from them. |
TonyeBarcanista:They can’t control such a crowd with that defeatist attitude! I can assure you that, once it is made clear to the customers that they cannot get into the bank if they don’t listen to the security personnel, they will cooperate. Human behavior is much the same all over the world. Rules will be obeyed when they are enforced. |
Wearing a bible to cover your face is still way more effective than wearing nothing. This eccentric woman is still way less likely to get infected than someone following the advice given by WHO and NCDC earlier. |
12inchess:I know, but I thought they needed ventilators just as much. Now I know better. |
olusma23:The situation with health workers is interesting. I believe that most of them are exposed when treating patients who haven’t been confirmed to have the virus. COVID-19 symptoms can be very similar to malaria. By the time they realize what they are dealing with, they are already infected. No person in any hospital should be without a medical mask. Concerning the Ankara masks. If they only reduce the rate of transmission by say 50%, that is still a big win. I would recommend the use of medical masks by those who can afford them. They are certainly better. What baffle me is can't these people resolve most of the complain they are coming to bank for online. at least not everyone their are illiterate. Most of them are there to apply for new ATM cards or to collect the cards they previously applied for. ATM cards can be stolen and do expire. |
Adrian98:It’s because the government has no choice. The lockdown has damaged the economy so much that they are no longer making much money. At the same time, they are expected to continue paying their workers (armed forces, civil servants) including those who are not working. At the same time they are expected to feed all the poor people. Even the oil revenue that they love so much has dried up because of the global recession. They could not continue the lockdown even if they wanted to. We should have followed South Korea’s example from the beginning, but it is not too late to make the change. At least we have learned that imposing a lockdown doesn’t magically make the virus go away. |
TheCOOLEST:I’m not talking about policemen and soldiers. I’m talking about the security men employed by the bank. If that pharmacy in Ibadan could enforce social distancing and mask usage months ago without assaultI g or abusIng their customers, I don’t see why banks can’t do it at a time when it’s been made compulsory. They just have to take a few moments to think about the best course of action before they start acting. Reasonable enforcement will be successful because people do not wish to die of the virus. |
isthatso:This is not true. The Ankara face masks are less protective than medical masks, but they will trap and redirect most virus-infected droplets flying out of your mouth when you speak quite effectively. So if they are worn by everybody, the risk of transmission is significantly reduced. They also provide a modest benefit to the person wearing them which depends on the design and the materials they are made from. This modest benefit will be the difference between life and death for many people. |
izzou:Crowd management is a major part of the job of the security men. It’s not as if they are busy doing something else. Any security man who sees people crowded together without face-masks and does nothing deserves to be fired. Let them push and pull themselves. You can't compel an adult to save his own lifeIt is short-sighted to wish Coronavirus on anyone because the more people are infected, the greater your risk of being infected by one of them. You may think you are safe because you are staying home, but someone in your home could go out for an essential errand and bring it back home to you. Most of the people in those pictures would like to line up with the proper spacing, but because of the unruly minority, it has to be enforced the security guards. It is part of their job. |
mzhazel:Every safety tool can be said to give people a false sense of protection. Seat belts. Condoms. Motorcycle helmets. People who oppose safety tools always use that as an excuse. The reality is that the danger of false confidence in a safety tool pales in comparison to the danger of having no protection at all. This is why people should wear seat belts, condoms, helmets, and face-masks. Asians wear face masks and the imaginary false confidence hasn’t stopped it from helping them. Doctors wear it too. People are smart enough to understand that face-masks, just like seatbelts, helmets, and condoms, do not offer complete protection. |
kabe1:To get new ATM cards. Some of their cards may have expired or been stolen. By the way, there are crowds at ATM machines too. It is necessary for security officers to manage the queues and ensure that people wear masks. Even if 90% of the customers want to take precautions, the unruly 10% will mess everything up. |
We need smart leaders. That is all I will say about this. |
At least these ones are wearing face-masks, so the risk of transmission is not as high as it would be without the face-masks Queues have to be managed by security people in order for social distancing to be maintained. There's no excuse for allowing this to happen. |
People aren't complying with social distancing because it's not being enforced. It's the same with wearing of masks. Enforcement is necessary. 90% of the people in that crowd would love to be socially distanced, but if they try it, someone will jump in front of them. They have no choice. |
The solution to people not wearing face-masks is to not allow anyone without a face-mask to enter the bank. The solution to crowding is to charge an entry fee. Those who don't need to be there will leave immediately. If charging an entry fee is not acceptable, people can be made to line up along the road where there's more space. |
Is Lagos slowing down? At this rate isolation centers will start running out of space soon. |
This is very lovely news. Dangote knows the things that are most important and is doing his best to provide them. |
I wish we could find out why this patient absconded. |
You should simply wash and/or iron any non-medical face covering that you buy in the market or from a road-side hawker before you use it. |
