What product do you use for the hair? |
I don’t understand why we are under more restrictions than Lagos State. |
Kobojunkie:If they follow the guidelines for face-masks and spacing Trump’s gamble will pay off. But in the US the people who hate the lockdown also hate following safety rules, so odds are that this will be a disaster. |
Davash222:if it happens again... |
The mod said it was a mistake. |
Thanks for this thread, dingbang. Can we have a video showing the entire process? |
We must absolutely have testing labs not only in every state but in every major city or town, so that tests can be conducted very quickly and the infected identified and isolated before they start spreading the disease to other people (several days before they start showing symptoms). Speed is a force multiplier for testing. If two countries are test the same number of people per day, the one with faster testing will have better results. Countries need to keep increasing their testing capacity as fast as they can, using all the money that they have, until it gets to the level where the number of new cases start to drop. Whatever it costs, it is worth it. |
How do they select which people will receive the food? |
Shocked, but let'e watch out for Q2. |
taylor88:The strain of malaria you have may be resistant to the drug you are using. So they should prescribe a different drug for you, I guess. Cheers. |
A 21% reduction in Lagos state's budget seems very optimistic to me. Where will the money come from? Many of the jobs that have been lost are gone for good. Many of the businesses that have closed are gone for good. Many of those that reopen will end the year with losses. Entire industries have been destroyed by harsh measures. The social distancing rules that we are now enforcing, though infinitely better than the lockdown, are not cost-free either. Transport costs will at least double, etc. All these things will reduce the Lagos State government's revenue. |
aminulive:Can you point us to where the World Health Organization officially recommended the use of face-masks? It would be very helpful, thanks. |
Lockdowns and the stress of dealing with COVID-19 are driving people mad. |
Cogent:have you answered my questions yet? I can’t see my answers. |
I really appreciate your ideas and suggestions. They are very helpful. |
alezzy13:The WHO leadership lied to people and they died. They advised against banning travel from China. They convinced people not to wear face-masks. Till date, they have not completely reversed their position. The volunteers and staff of WHO are good, hard-working people, but just like America and UK, something is wrong with their leadership; this has led to catastrophic economic outcomes for the world. Hence, the hostility. |
Love4God:**** Germany handled the crisis way better than most other countries. You need to look at their stats. |
Cogent:Which friend, which offense, and which moderator? |
Gregorian2020:I think the gov already made his decision. The onine poll was a farce and obviously many people who are not in Ogun State voted in the poll. |
Orestino:What does he think he is achieving by doing this? He's just creating a re-election problem for himself as far as I can tell. Just aggravating voters. |
I’m tired of this. |
I want to open up every sector of the economy, but I feel that religious gatherings, etc. should be the last part of the economy to be opened up because the risk/benefit ratio is so high. I hope the Ebonyi churches and mosques follow the guidelines and that they are effective enough. |
andrewtosin:Two things can help: 1, having hand sanitizer in your pocket so you can use it immediately after touching anything that may be contaminated. 2, wearing shades, goggles or glasses, along with your face-mask, to block you when you try to touch your eyes. |
CodeTemplar:I have changed the wording. The original wording wasn’t intended to be malicious. So, just like India, we are lucky to have highly skilled Nigerians working in labs all over the world. We should ask for their help and pay them very well if they choose to return to Nigeria in this difficult time and help us to make a vaccine. |
Gepheral:Simple. To generalize this, if you touch any object that could have been touched or sneezed on by other people, avoid rubbing your eyes, picking your nose, etc before you wash your hands. |
andrewtosin:He didnt say anything about face-masks, as far as I can tell. |
I am very happy for you. Wish you provided more evidence, though. osesology:This is interesting. Did you wear face-masks when you were in the buses? |
rationalhuman:The first successful human vaccine was made by simply taking pus from the sores on a lady with cowpox and rubbing it into the wounds of healthy people to protect them from smallpox. The second one was made by infecting a rabbit with rabies and injecting the weakened virus harvested from its spinal cord into a boy who had been bitten by a rabid animal. Many vaccines since them have been made by growing human viruses in chicken eggs for several generations to reduce their virulence in humans. I don't see why can't we do such things in Nigeria. It would be nice to have BSL-3 labs, but I doubt that researchers need extreme safety measures that can't be attained in Nigeria to work on a disease that is currently spreading in the country. You would need extreme safety measures to work with Ebola because of the risk that it would escape from the lab, but you wouldn't need them to work on malaria or the common cold viruses which are already everywhere in the country. And you are talking about Vaccine development for such thing? We dont have Genome Copying Systems and know how, First you need to map the Genome of any pathogens then you do Bio-molecular research.Vaccines were developed and successfully administered for many decades before the first "Genomic Copying System" was developed. Cure will come from India, US, Britain, Canada or Australia. We can just wish and pray for their success. We people from this continent are indeed most unproductive and irrational humans on this planet, no wonder whole worlds laugh at us. Tell me you were in jolly mood while posting this. Comparison with India?India is very similar to us. They have a corrupt and inefficient government, and a large population which includes millions of extremely poor people living in dirty slums. But unlike us, they are willing to try to do things by themselves, instead of giving up and waiting for the West to do everything for them. Europe, Asia and America will not provide sufficient vaccines to us until they have vaccinated the majority of their own citizens. This may take years. Fortunately, there are many Nigerians abroad who know how to make vaccines; why can't we ask them to please help us? |
I'm very flattered to see Nairaland being compared to the likes of Reddit and Quora. I hope Nairaland can live up to your expectations someday. |
lalasticlala: Codedrock:If every country could do what South Korea, Germany, and many Asian countries have done to suppress the virus - the use of quality face-masks everywhere and many smart infection reduction strategies, combined with fast and proactive testing, we could wipe out the virus. However, only a few countries seem to have the vision and imagination to do what needs to be done. And as long as there is one country in the world that isn’t handling the virus correctly, the countries handling it correctly will not be totally safe. Countries relying on lockdown to control the virus will never be able to lift their lockdown because once they life it, the virus will come back. Such countries are in serious trouble economically and also in terms of health. Countries like South Korea which rely more on rapid testing and contact tracing to knock down the virus whenever it reappears rather than lockdown will be able to avoid economic collapse because that strategy is more sustainable and can be continued until a vaccine is produced in sufficient quantities. The economic lockdown approach to fighting the virus remains a short-sighted, unsustainable strategy that no country can rely on, because it robs countries of the very resources that they need to fight the virus. It is particularly unwise for poor countries which already have a shortage of resources to follow a “strategy“ that robs them of the limited resources that they have. |
ceejayluv:I’m optimistic that we will have several effective vaccines eventually, since this is a virus that most people’s immune systems can naturally handle given enough time, and vaccines work by stimulating the immune system. It’s not the kind of virus that attacks the immune system or hides from it. Honestly I think Nigeria should be working on creating a vaccine since it’s not rocket science. If we are waiting for other countries to make a vaccine and immunize their own citizens before selling it to us, we will be waiting for a long time. If India can make vaccines, why can’t we? Even a primitive vaccine should work. |
