Jobs/VacanciesRe: Is There Acute Job Scarcity Or Are We Not Employable? by Seun(mod): 6:55pm On Nov 06, 2006
I have lived in nigeria and am living in europe now and i will tell u that part of the reason why their economy is growing all the time is because most of the people are getting and doing jobs they desire by so they give their best and contribute more to it.
Hmmm. First of all, desire is relative. I will happily pack feaces for 600,000 naira a month, but don't expect me to do it for more than 4 months! For 600,000 naira a month, I will fall in love with a toilet sanitation job!

Secondly, you will be surprised at how many Europeans hate their jobs if you bother to ask. You are looking at it through the rose-tinted glasses of someone coming from Africa. Apart from toilet sanitation and window cleaning, customer support is another job that no-one would take if not for the money. There are so many critical jobs like that.

When I started Nairaland, I would rather have been creating computer processors and operating systems. But there was a demand for web traffic and here I am. Even though I hate it sometimes, the income makes it worthwhile.

A job-seeker is just like a business and an employer is just like a customer. It is not the duty of a customer to patronize any business. Rather, it's the duty of a business to provide whatever the customer wants. Period.

Well, perhaps before they got those jobs, they were doing jobs that they DIDN'T desire quite so much. But they used those 'undesirable' jobs as stepping stones to get to where they wanted to be.
Exactly! Somebody has to do those less dignified jobs, so I think we should stop looking down on them.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Is There Acute Job Scarcity Or Are We Not Employable? by Seun(mod): 10:16am On Nov 06, 2006
Do you know how many graduates are out there doing menial jobs below their standard just o make ends meet
Any job that pays well and serves the society is a good job. If the expertise you went to the university to acquire is not marketable, then you should look for something else to do. That's not just compromise, it's the way of the world. If Nigerian forums are no longer making money, I won't continue doing it onthe pretext that "I am a forum administrator by profession". I will go and do something else that pays, even if people consider it undignified.

If we all get the jobs we desire, there will be no progress, no economic growth. Some jobs are not very glamorous, but they help to move the society forward - which is why they are not scarce. Embrace those jobs. ;-)

Christianity EtcRe: Are Some Churches Gradually Becoming Financial Institutions? by Seun(mod): 6:55am On Nov 06, 2006
Tax on church revenue won't bring any benefit. Politicians and religious leaders are equally corrupt.
Christianity EtcRe: Do White People Take Christianity As Seriously As We Do? by Seun(mod): 6:54am On Nov 06, 2006
- hard core capitalists have found its the easiest route into people's pockets thus becoming stupendously rich
Hard core capitalists have a lot of integrity. We do not believe in the use of fraud to earn money. Business needs an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust to thrive. Hard core capitalists are very different from criminals.

HealthRe: I Have PILE And Needs Treatment by Seun(mod): 6:35am On Nov 06, 2006
You need something to soften your stool until it gets better and maybe an operation if your case is serious.
Any doctor should be able to help you. I know of a case with bleeding that disappeared on its own.

So it is your "right" to be fed by your wife, but it is a privilege for her to get your assistance? How silly!

Don't worry, a professional woman probably won't marry you after reading what you wrote. You're safe.

CareerRe: Best Paying Professional Career In Nigeria? by Seun(mod): 4:48am On Nov 06, 2006
I bear no ill-will towards the oil companies:
- If they were not mining our oil, imported items like computers, VSATs, and rice would be more expensive.
- We would also have to import petrol and kerosine, which would make them much more expensive.
- And we would have to pay more tax, since the government won't have oil revenues to rely on.

The problem the Niger Delta people are failing is a lack of a fair judicial system to enable Niger Delta farmers and fishermen to obtain fair compensation for the negative effects of this beneficial mining activity. That's all.

Without the existence of a fair judicial system, the oil companies cannot pay huge sums of compensation money to local farmers and fishermen. If oil company A keeps paying out huge sums of money to Niger Deltans and oil company B does not, then oil company A would eventually be driven out of business. A fair arbitrator is needed.

So if you work for an oil company, you have every right to be happy with yourself. You're an asset to Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Has All It Takes To Be A World Power by Seun(mod): 4:24am On Nov 06, 2006
Nigeria becoming a world power is not so important. What's important is for you and I to make personal progress in life. China and North Korea are world powers, but their downtrodden masses would rather have food!

If I notice that a lot of threads on the Nigerian stock exchange are popping up, I'll create a dedicated forum to cover just that topic. Till then, I'm sure we can manage a thread titled "Stock Market Tips For Nigerians"?
Foreign AffairsRe: Saddam Hussein Sentenced To Death By Hanging by Seun(mod): 4:01am On Nov 06, 2006
You cannot rule a country by force without being a murderer. Remember Abacha and co? That alone is enough to make me turn a blind eye to whatever form of death meets someone like Saddam. He deserves it.
