FamilyRe: Prenuptial Agreements by Seun(mod): 5:04pm On May 24, 2006
Yes, maybe. But then I have to ask, why marry someone you aren't sure about?
- For the sake of children.
- In order to show the world that you've arrived.
- Because your family is putting pressure on your to get married.
- Because the biological clock is ticking and half a wife is better than none.

There's something you need to understand: people change. I may trust you today, but tommorrow something might happen and you might become less trustworthy. You might love me today but tommorrow something might happen to me to make me less lovable. We may grow apart. We may learn things about each other that we didn't know before. A loving spouse may get exposed to a new religion and become a monster. Shit happens.

The prenuptial agreement is just like an insurance contract. When you take a life insurance policy for your family, does it mean you are planning to die soon? When you take fire insurance, does it mean you are planning to burn your house? When you marry an imperfect person, this is a risk, and it's ok to have insurance against risks!

The truth of the matter is that the PRE-NUP AGREEMENT IS A WOMAN'S LICENCE TO GOLD DIGGING!
This is irrational. Prenuptial agreements are the opposite of that. They take away the gold-digger's incentive.

If you aren't sure, WAIT! Patience is a virtue.
That one na theory. Wait until you are 35 years old and single and you'll understand why people take risks.

if at the alter your bride shrugs & says "I guess so" instead of "I do" wouldn't you re-consider?
If I have a good prenuptial agreement, then I won't have to reconsider! If she leaves me, I won't be ruined. I can always use the money that's rightfully mine to pick up another sweet sixteen.

If my fiancee is unwilling to sign the prenup, it means she is planning to divorce me and take half of my possessions. A gold-digger will never sign a prenuptial agreement, but someone that loves me won't mind!
HealthRe: Menstruation Is Fast Becoming Optional [ladies] by Seun(mod): 1:05am On May 24, 2006
What's there not to like about it?

But there are benefits from taking oral contraceptives too, such as a lower risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer, osteoporosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. And forgoing periods means no premenstrual syndrome and a lower risk of anemia and migraines, says Dr. Sheldon Segal, co-author of "Is Menstruation Obsolete?" Segal has been involved in research for several contraceptives.
It is up to the woman to decide for herself whether the benefits outweigh the risks.

She says it has been great for her marriage, preventing monthly crankiness and improving her sex life.
As a husband, that would be enough to convince me. A wife who never gets cranky!

The annoying thing is that a female doctor is one of the proponents. If it's later proved to be harmful
That is very irrational. Isn't it more reasonable that for a woman who uses the medicines herself to be the one promoting it? Afterall, if it turns out to be bad, she'll be one of those to suffer, right?

ComputersRe: Africans Are Charged 90 Times More For Internet Access by Seun(mod): 11:49pm On May 23, 2006
I pay $100 per month for dial-up access.

My American counterpart pays $50 per month for access, but enjoys 45 times my download speed (broadband).

In this case, I am paying 2 times what the American paying for access, but 90 times more for bandwidth.

Do you know there was a time people were having debates like this about:
- Washing of hands before performing surgeries "it is ridiculous" - doctors
- The use of painkillers in childbirth "it is unnatural because God said women must deliver 'in pain'" - men

We human beings are so predictable and stupid. We can be relied upon to fight all forms of progress.

ComputersRe: Africans Are Charged 90 Times More For Internet Access by Seun(mod): 6:45pm On May 23, 2006
We don't pay 90 times more for Internet access. the 90x figure is for bandwidth cost and the typical internet user in Africa uses much less bandwidth than her American counterparts.

They here of fantastic figures in foreign reserve yet have to contend with hunger, disease and poverty.
if they spend it some people will be unhappy. if they retain it, others will be unhappy. You cannot satisfy all the people all the time. This is why I am wishing for small government that puts all the resources in private hands.

When you have a small government, a little bit of what would have been the foreign reserve will be in my pocket, and a little bit in your pocket. If I believe in saving, I will save my own portion. If you believe in spending, you will spend your own portion. Instead of whining about NEPA, I would build my own power stations. Instead of whining about the quality of education, I will build my own superior schools. Government will handle just laws and their enforcement.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: 3d Modeling And Animation by Seun(mod): 7:33pm On May 22, 2006
I think it's wrong to encourage people to study a course like architecture if they are interested in 3d modeling and animation. This is like asking someone who is interested in medical technology to study medicine. Courses like architecture and medicine should only be studied if you are interested in in architecture or medicine.

Graphics design is a more appropriate course for someone who is interested in 3d modeling and animation.
Christianity EtcRe: Joseph Or David: Whats Your View? by Seun(mod): 7:22pm On May 22, 2006
I hate David. If you study his life without rose-colored glasses, you will be disgusted. He was no better than a modern day militia leader, a murderous man with no respect for human life, yet he is considered as a hero.
Christianity EtcRe: Tithes And Offerings: So Important In Nigerian Churches by Seun(mod): 7:06pm On May 22, 2006
I forgot to include my source for the above quotes. Many apologies. It's this study of RCCG:
http://opus.ub.uni-bayreuth.de/volltexte/2004/73/pdf/Ukah.pdf

What I found most interesting is that pastors are rated based partly on how much tithes they generate.

"The amount of moneys that accrues to parishes, as tithes, donations and offerings remain one visible way of assessing and measuring the productivity and progressiveness of a pastor. As one senior pastor puts it, a pastor's “productivity must be measurable and progressive”.158 The measurable factors are tithes, attendance and the number of church-workers." (from the same source above).

So promotion of RCCG pastors is not just about "souls won for Christ" but also about money they bring in. I see!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Foreign Reserves: Why Suffer In The Midst Of Plenty? by Seun(mod): 7:25am On May 22, 2006
China has problems that are arguably worse than the problems we have in Nigeria. They have less freedom. in china, a forum like this one where we criticize the goverment cannot exist. The operators will be arrested and jailed. They also have areas of the country that are very deep in poverty, and a larger population to support.

Infact where do we get the money to fix Nigeria, If you decide to save the money. Or build a reserve that will sooner or later get missing.
Don't you ever save money for rainy days? What if the investments required in the country aren't immediate?

Christianity EtcRe: Tithes And Offerings: So Important In Nigerian Churches by Seun(mod): 7:12am On May 22, 2006
24. Tithe and Offering
Regular payment of tithe and offering is obligatory because it is God's command. It is God's way of providing for the Ministers in the Church. The ministers and other church employees are paid their food, allowance through tithe. The offering is used to cater for the needy in the Church. Tithe and Offering must be paid on every income e.g. salary, profit from business transaction, gifts, etc. Mal. 3:8-12; Gen. 14:19-20; Num. 18:20-21; Deut. 26:12-13; Lev. 27:30; Heb. 7:2-5; I Cor. 16:2; Matt. 23:23. Tithe is exclusively for the minister's welfare.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Foreign Reserves: Why Suffer In The Midst Of Plenty? by Seun(mod): 7:10am On May 22, 2006
It's ironic that you're using of the example of China to justify the squandering of Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves. China's foreign exchange reserves stand at almost 900 billion dollars! www.chinability.com/Reserves.htm

Since we have made this mistake of spendng excess reserves in the past and got into debt as a result. It would only be stupid to repeat the mistake again. In this regard, I must applaud the current administration.
